The movie is The Green Inferno. NYC student activists travel to Amazon to save the rainforest, meet natives. Hilarity ensues.
It was suddenly pulled from the release schedule, and was supposed to be out September 5th. It’s said the financing company doesn’t have the money for the release:
Bloody Disgusting writes:
Deadline is reporting that Green Inferno, the Roth-directed film about student activists who travel from Gotham to save the Amazon rainforest only to be pursued by a cannibal tribe, has been taken off Open Road’s release calendar. The film was scheduled for wide release on September 5. We’ve been supporting the film heavily here on the site after we posted this positive review last September.
They write that this happened because financier Worldview Entertainment is balking at ex-CEO Christopher Woodrow’s commitment to provide the P&A.
This is a very important movie to showcase the joys of being a student activist who has traveled to underdeveloped countries to help indigenous people combat the effects of climate change and greedy multinational corporations.
I suggest we should petition the distributor to hold a Kickstarter to fund the release. As the incentive gift for donors, I propose an e-booklet (to save the trees) filled with info for combating the real myths about climate change.
Oh Brother.
OH my! Can we re-film with Mickibben, Mann, etc. Much more fun. “Tastes Like Chicken”.
Writes Max Hugoson at 12:05 PM on 10 August:
McKibben and Mann (et alia) would have a flavor rather more suited for immediate consignment to the village midden.
I rather imagine a stern cannibal mom admonishing her child: “Spit it out this instant! Do you know where that thing’s been?“
There, fixed it for ya 😉
And for their troubles get put in the stewpot. I like the plot.
If I’m reading this right, this is a highly creative way of social disruption of global warming alarmism: by sending true global warming mythbusting (i.e. lack of warming, etc.) booklets to all the uber green but sadly ignorant young wacktivati that will naturally give to fund such movies.
I like it.
Clever.
Sounds like something the EPA might fund.
Sounds like something funded by tax payers , where did these like buttons come from ?
So if she was pursued by cannibals did she get eaten? Or at least gnawed on? Which begs the question, was she advocating that the tribes turn to a vegetarian diet to save the rainforests? And was her inclusion on the menu a sort of tit for tat? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well we could, but they’re very difficult to clean. 😉
Two guys are sitting in a cannibal stew pot, The fire’s been lit. Suddenly one of the guys starts to laugh hysterically. The other guy says ” What’s so funny?”.
“I just peed in their soup” says the first.
Leaving aside, the use of WUWT to review movies.
What exactly is a “Kickstarter” ??
Pamela, such a wicked sense of humor you have. But whoever heard of a cannibal named tat.
Is it as scientifically accurate as Sharknado?

Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding program, started in 2009:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kickstarter
A missionary’s seven year old son was playing with the seven year old son of the chief of the cannibals. The cannibal’s son was promptly admonished not to play with his food and to mind his manners.
Don’t cannibals understand the concept of ‘food miles’?
An eco-horror flick. How quaint!
The eco-nasties version of Bonfire of the Vanities?.
They may be drifting into accidental reality.
If animal protein is bad, shall be discontinued to save the planet, I guess vegans will offer a pale substitute.
Two cannibals were eating a clown, one says to the other “Hey does this guy taste funny to you?”
It could have been another episode in the “Carry-on” Series, with enough Green funding….:Carry on up the Amazon”
Perhaps they were pursued by cannibals because they suggested that the cannibals should become vegetarians to save the rainforests from Globull Warming?
… the Roth-directed film about student activists who travel from Gotham to save the Amazon rainforest only to be pursued by a cannibal tribe,…
So, they were going to feed the indigenous rainforest people.
What’s wrong with that?
I wonder what they will come up with as a “an effect of climate change.” ? And exactly what do those greedy international companies (why are they always “multinational companies”? What, no greedy national companies?) want there in the Amazon?
Cannibals overheard discussing eating Gore and Mann – `They taste alright but they`re tough to clean.
Obviously you’ve all heard of the cannibal who was too late for dinner and only got a cold shoulder.
I would pay box office prices just to see a flick about young idiots – feeling all smarmy-like and self-righteous – being chased by hungry cannibals. The Monty Python theme song comes to mind as background music… 😀
Hmmm. . .That wasn’t exactly what they had in mind, was it?
Hilarious song by Ray Stevens, quote apropos for this discussion. . . and for that movie if it ever comes out:
can’t resist this thread…..
Worldview Entertainment doesn’t have the money for the release, exclaiming “Are you crazy, it’ll cost us an arm and a leg!”
The basic idea of the movie seems to be stolen from “State of Fear” by Michael Crichton, where a self-righteous and “world-saving” green actor is eaten by “unspoiled and naturally friendly behaving” cannibals of a Solomon island… 😉
By the way: The story line of this thrilling novel by Crichton is rather crazy and unrealistic but his description and analysis of the methods of climate scaremongering by green interest groups is still very accurate and up to date, unfortunately… 🙁
The guys who rate films (MPAA) coughs up an “R” for …. “aberrant violence and torture, grisly disturbing images, brief graphic nudity, sexual content, language and some drug use.” That alone might drag some greenies in to watch their CAGW heroes in action.
– to red for me, i´ll better wait for this one…

Two cannibals were having supper. “Your wife makes great soups” said one to the other. “Yes” agreed the first, “but I am going to miss her terribly.”
“Mannnnn ! That is such a bummer.” — a la The Dude
They should just replay Avatar. Same story, same message. Their funding seems to be a bit like ‘unobtainium’ (aaargh! The person who thought that was a good idea for the film should be shot).
They might be lucky and find cannibals who are on a vegan free diet.
Watched the trailer. Looks like the plane did a job on part of the rain forest when it crashed.
heh everytime I think of rainforest I think of south park rainforest-shmainforest

wish there was way to skip the ad there
The premise doesn’t add up. Cannibals, being one with nature, would obviously not eat anything that was raised with hormones, steroids, anti-biotics, and other artificial additives. Well, maybe the students had “organic” tattoos on them that fooled the cannibals. Guess they don’t know to actually check the ingredients for themselves.
Crichton’s other novels have been made into movies–why not this one too!?

“Missing heat” Trenberth, Chicken of the Sea.
Two cannibals are eating a missionary. One started at the head, the other at the feet. The first cannibal asks “How are you doing”? The other replies, “Man, I’m having a ball”. To which the first replies……….You are eating too fast.
And then there is the one about the cannibal who is boiling a missionary. The other cannibal says, “Man, you can’t do this! This man is a friar.”
(Ie, to be fried and not boiled. Get it?)
Am I the only one whose first thought was that it would make a good Benny Hill episode. Now which side would Hill’s Angels be on? They already have the chase music.
Even cannibals know they should eat their greens!
No no no. Y’all misunderstood. The cannibals were not chasing after the activist students; they were chasing away the activists before their extreme leftist ideas ruined the tribe.
In our next episode of Scooby Doo…
??? It sure couldn’t be for cannibalistic purposes. Considering the various protests we’ve witnessed, I’m hard pressed to imagine less appetizing fare.
Primitive, (allegedly), peoples chasing student activists, because;
A) the activists told the tribe that the activists are there to protect the rainforest from man.
B) the activists put out all of the tribe’s CO2 generating sources (cook fires, light, warmth).
C) the activists were not jungle potty trained and …
D) the activists insisted that the tribe only eat vegan.
E) the activists were not able to keep their campsite tidy.
F) the activists talked condescendingly to the tribal members.
G) the activists insisted they represented a consensus and the tribal members were mistaken.
H) everyone knows about activist halitosis and can forgive tribal members wanting more personal space
I) All of the above and more…
Which begs the question; why in any world would any urbanite activist believe that only their presence could save the rainforest?
What did they plan to do? Wave signs? Chain themselves to trees? Call lumber cutters bad names?
Are they sure it was cannibals chasing them? It could’ve been most of Brazil; and not to invite them to a feast.
At least they are trying to portray the message of global warming in a tasteful way….
Sounds like a South Park episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x75Dd9N65N0
Gives another meaning to the phrase, “He gave her the finger.”
Is it cannabis, or cannibals ??
Thanks, Kevin D Knoebel. This is a good post, thought-provoking, as proven by the comments it has gotten. I like science-fiction.
And thanks, Gentle Tramp. Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear” was his most important book, I think. It has a lot of Web references that challenged the consensus before it was even born.
The reasons why it was not made into a movie are obvious to me.
rogerknights, anything opposing the consensus, even science-fiction, should be given a voice.
should NOT be given a voice. I should have written.

Both. Smoked long pig, special recipe, has medicinal properties.
See, there will be no food shortages among the indigenous peoples even with climate change.
Now if only there would be a sequel:
To Serve Mann.
Science Officer 7:20 pm
Now that was really funny!!!!!
I think the “green” in the title might be making people draw mistaken conclusions about this film’s subject matter. Eli Roth is all about gore, but not necessarily THAT Gore. I doubt there’s much in terms of politics or statements about environmentalism in the movie. Just a bunch of kids getting hacked up and eaten, would be my guess.
Silly cannibals! Haven’t they heard of ‘food miles’?
I saw the trailer, and it seemed pretty funny. I really enjoyed the Blair Witch Project, not for the story so much, but for the audience reaction. The theater was filled with 20 year-olds and they really were scared. Still just kids after all, just a little older. So same deal here. Kids think they’re all grown up and in charge. Going to save the world. And get eaten instead. If only they knew that’s pretty much what will happen to them living under socialism. The process will just be slower and the pain will go on and on – at least until the life is finally sucked out of them.
I knew a guy from Burma who claimed he was a Scot by absorption.
Claimed his grandfather had eaten a Scottish missionary.
Look, I’ll kick in a few bucks to save the epic – just as long as we can send the natives a few bottles of Chianti and some Fava beans.

I’m so confused… IMDB says that this ‘film’ was released last year. There are reviews and everything.
At 6:54 AM on 11 August, LeeHarvey writes:
The impression I’ve gotten is that it had been made available for viewing on the small-audience artsy-fartsy circuit, internationally and in the “Blue” (predominantly leftard “Liberal” fascist) metropolitan areas of these United States, but that the corporate officers with the authority to put it into the suburban multiplexes are balking at according The Green Inferno the sort of advertising and promotion (A&P) budget that would make theater owners willing to give it a screen that might otherwise be gathering popcorn-consumers by way of a more commercially viable offering.
The people who effectively own this film seem to have read the broad market potential – reviewers’ ratings notwithstanding – and think that it’s simply not going to earn back the A&P costs needed to get it into wide release, and they’re probably right.
Perhaps they went to save the rainforest from being destroyed by multinational corporations who were clearing huge swathes to plant palm oil crops to meet the EU’s biofuel targets. Now that’s a theme I could get behind.
Two guys are sitting in a cannibal stew pot, and the fire’s been lit. Suddenly one yells, “Oh my god, it’s already boiling – see the bubbles? The other one says, “No, that was me”.
Rename film to “Infernal Greens.”
The ratings on IMDB aren’t that bad — I’ve seen major theatrical releases with worse. It appears to be a shock/gore film and the environmental activism of the protagonists/victims is just a means to get a bunch of college students in conflict with cannibals.
So this has all the prerequisites to be officially a CULT Classic.
On his way to the river, a cannibal passed a green activist in the woods…

Pamela, your comment is filled with naughty bits. It is like looking at a 30 pound stuffed turkey – I just don’t know where to start.
Didn’t Little Red Riding Hood (a suggestive name if ever there was one) get chased through the Amazon by a Big Bad Wolf intending to satiate his hunger(s)? Its a classic. Having despatched the chaperone he waited for her in drag, ultimately giving her no more than a couple of lame pick-up lines. Wolfie met with no success and capital consequences.
Speaking of (missing) capital, I don’t think ‘Green Inferno’ can top that plot. I am going to give it a miss. They should at least have changed the locale.
It’s rare that cannibals get to eat imported food. They were so looking forward to tasting some Chuck roast, and some surfer and turfier – baby back ribs, and muscles. Then for dessert, a few Ladyfingers. Scrapple seemed like a wonderful dish but it was discovered the global warming activists had no brains. Alas, back at the village, the poor disappointed cannibals had to settle for eating their dates.
An informed cannibal would recommend you start with the Pope’s nose.

I will file that under the tab, “Things I didn’t really need to know but might pull out my back pocket at a party.”
Pamela, I forgot to directly compliment your wit. Thanks.
The late, great, big game hunter Peter T Forbes promised to one day write a book called, “A History of Swaziland: Who’s Eaten Whom.” There are still those who take a nibble now and then, apparently.

You will be pleased to know that this year it is raining unseasonably during burning season (now) and this may delay the expansion of the biodiesel plantations by a year. It is also helping to keep Singapore air much cleaner than last year. It rained mightily in Jakarta last evening. Every drop helps limit the damage caused by European biofuels policies that subsidise the madness.
For a more light-hearted replacement, I can recommend watching a very young Don Johnson with Jason Robards in ‘A Boy and His Dog’.
I would much, much, rather have J. Stanton’s “Gnoll Credo” being made into a movie. Now there is a story that would be good for laughs and insights, while making the self-appointed popes of Gaïa cower in fear.

The basic idea of the movie seems to be stolen from “State of Fear” …
This is the book (2004) that pushed me over “the tipping point” on the subject of AGW idiocy.
I have often thanked Crichton (may he RIP) for his many contributions to … well … me! .. in terms of entertainment and edification.
