Patrick Moore, John Coleman Deliver Morning Keynote Addresses to Kick Off Day of Panel Discussions, Award Presentations
LAS VEGAS — Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore and The Weather Channel founder John Coleman open Day Two of the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC9) with keynote addresses at 8 a.m. PDT Tuesday, July 8 from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Details on live stream follow.

Moore, a founding member of Greenpeace, is also receiving the “Speaks Truth to Power” award from the EarthFree Institute. The title of his speech is “Confessions of a Greenpeace Drop-out.” Coleman developed the concept and business plan for the cable network known as The Weather Channel, for which he served as CEO and president. He will deliver a keynote address Tuesday morning titled “How the Global Warming Frenzy Began.”

Global Warming Debate
The debate over the causes and consequences of global warming (or “climate change”) is one of the great controversies of the modern era. While environmental activists and some politicians claim “the debate is over” and call for immediate action to reduce man-made greenhouse gas emissions, others say the science points to only a very small human impact – too small to warrant concern – and the costs of trying to prevent global warming far exceed the benefits.
Ninth International Conference on Climate Change
The Ninth International Conference on Climate Change is expected to attract nearly 1,000 speakers, scientists, and guests willing to question whether man-made global warming is a problem worth addressing. The event has 32 cosponsors and features 60 prominent scientists and economists as keynoters or panelists.
There is no debate. They refuse to, so they lose. Game over for Warmists.
I have contacted my local media and sent them a link to WUWT. I have asked them to cover the events and the findings of this conference.
I just watched Patrick Moore’s speech and thought it was excellent. The only quibble I have is in his comparison of the geological records of CO2 and temperature where he neglected to mention that the sun is thought to have been increasing in brightness through geologic time. When this is factored in, a convincing case can be made for a long term correlation between CO2 and temperature. Other than that, Moore’s case looks unassailable.

I don’t know, if they are trying to substantiate their positions with scientific data, they obviously have no position. You can’t use data to prove you’re right, you have to use only models fashioned from your best guess as to what counts. Data gets in the way. If you use data you obviously are collecting big money from big oil.

Columnist John L. Smith begins by mocking the conference for having a rapper and calls the event “the national climate science denial convention.” Next follows a recitation of the Heartland Institute’s implied evil motivations — they are funded by “ExxonMobil, Big Tobacco and large pharmaceutical corporations” with links to tobacco giant Phillip Morris.
Smith then claims the conference is weak on science but is strongly motivated by politics. He uses a strawman argument to claim the conference sponsors and attendees are out of the mainstream by stating a strong majority of the American public agrees with the question “Is there solid evidence that the average temperature on Earth has been getting warmer?” and also claims a majority would “vote for majority admit they are more likely to vote for a congressional or presidential candidate who ‘supports action to reduce global warming.’”
Even the hotel where the conference is being held is a lie: having been in Mandalay, I can tell you it lies on the east bank of Irrawaddy river in Burma, not on a “bay”.
(we have properties named “Mackerel Hill” and “Cranberry Hill” near my town, so I tend to notice such fakery.)

Ummm… This is Las Vegas. The Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower just down the Strip? Not real, either. Oh, they’re real in the sense that you can touch them, but not real as in the “real deal.”
Beware that the notion of someone being a founder of Greenpeace has been abused, including by Greenpeace which labeled all the persons on the first protest voyage as founders. Patrick Moore has a web page explaining the history, with links to old Greenpeace pages calling him a founder. (Since then Greenpeace has changed pages and cropped him out of photos.).
The first protest voyage was on a ship the organization responsible for it nicknamed “Greenpeace” but the organization did not change its name to Greenpeace until later. Moore was not a founder of that organization, but was a key figure in leading the Greenpeace Foundation and sorting out the situation with people who were trying to usurp the name. (The Greenpeace Foundation had to sue people.) Moore was on the first voyage.
I admire Moore for realizing the nature of Greenpeace and speaking out.
The value of the opinion of a ‘columnist’ is evident in the first citation. The essence of being opinionated is to close your ear holes while simultaneously opening your cake hole.
The alarmist bigotry continues to amaze.
