Crackdown: India Curbs Greenpeace Funding

The Hindu, 19 June 2014

Indian Home Ministry places curbs on each foreign donation
Following an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report that alleged foreign-funded NGOs were creating obstacles to India’s economic growth, the Home Ministry has clamped down on Greenpeace, an international campaign group present in 40 countries.

In a letter dated 13th June, the Ministry has directed the Reserve Bank of India that all foreign contributions originating from Greenpeace International and Climate Works Foundation — two principal international contributors to Greenpeace India Society — must be kept on hold until individual clearances are obtained from the Ministry for each transaction.
The RBI has been asked to direct banks to this effect. The central bank has also been asked to report to the government if any government department or institution is receiving such funds.
Greenpeace was specifically targeted because the IB report had charged it with orchestrating “massive efforts to take down India’s coal-fired power projects and mining activity.”
According to the report, public protests in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli region — which produces 15,000 MW energy — were being engineered by Greenpeace, “actively aided and led by foreign activists.”
In its directive to the chief general manager, Department of Banking Operations and Development, RBI, the Ministry has invoked Section 46 of the Foreign Contributions (Regulations) Act, 2010, that says the “Central government may give such directions as it may deem necessary” for execution of the provisions of the Act.
The new directive will effectively bar the NGO from accepting foreign money, as it will require seeking case-by-case clearance for each contribution.

2) Intelligence Agency Calls On Indian Government To Curb Greenpeace Funding
Indian Express, 19 June 2014

The Intelligence Bureau has advised the government to cancel the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of Greenpeace, re-assess its tax compliance and place all its international affiliates on a home ministry watch list.

IB funded NGOs

The Intelligence Bureau (IB) report is a follow up to its earlier report where it had identified Greenpeace as a “threat to national economic security”. The new dossier, submitted to the government on June 9, alleges that Greenpeace India has solicited local funding in the country only to limit criticism. It is appealing for such contributions for its “crowd sourcing model to mask its sources of funding”.
“In the light of the above, Greenpeace India’s FCRA registration may require to be canceled, its tax compliance re-assessed and all of (its) international affiliates be placed on the prior category list of foreign donors,” the report notes.
Greenpeace has denied the accusations. Bharti Sinha, communications director of the organisation, told The Indian Express that they “follow complete transparency in financial dealings … (Greenpeace) publishes annual reports even though it is not legally required to”.
She also said, “We have expressed our willingness to engage with the government or any of its agencies if they have any questions. So far, we have received no communication from any government department or agency.”
Among other things, the IB report to the Prime Minister alleges that Greenpeace is also allied with a US-based anti-coal lobby group, Sierra Club, in its attempts to eliminate fossil fuel in India’s energy mix to be replaced with solar energy.
“Both have urged the US Trade Representative to drop its WTO complaint against India on domestic sourcing of solar panel and cells.”
It has also alleged that Greenpeace had formed a team called the “Moily Response Team” named after former Union environment minister Veerappa Moily to take swift actions against decisions taken by his ministry for clearances of 70 projects worth over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
Contending that Greenpeace is at the forefront of agitations against the proposed Jaitapur nuclear power plant (JNPP) in Maharashtra since March 2011, the IB said the NGO had “written letters to eight European banks not to provide financial help to support JNPP”.

The Indians see Greenpeace for what it is and for what one of its founders knows it to be. Greenpeace “activists” and their fellow travellers are the socio political and philosophical equivalent of the rats that brought bubonic plague.

I really abhor the present Indian cabinet for its primitive racism. This move, however, to freeze foreign funds meant to stir political unrest should be followed around the globe. Well done!

Chickens coming home after a long day. Any country that is concerned about its economic development is in the same position as India, except for the dictatorships like China, which country I suspect of profiting from the Greenpeace crowd in an unnatural alliance. China will benefit from the de-industrialization of the West.

An article about Russians spreading misinformation about shale gas, etc.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/fracking/10911942/Russia-in-secret-plot-against-fracking-Nato-chief-says.html
Has Greenpeace and others been infultrated by the Russian Secret service to undermine the West’s development of shale gas and other suorces of power.?
It is about time that Greenpeace, FOE and WWF were investigated.

Congrats to the Indian govt. for actually doing something to protect their economy from the usual suspects, unlike the US where our Dear Leader is a major part of our problems. Hopefully, after the 2014 election there will be changes. With a (hopefully) united congress we may be able to at least slow down the trainwreck that Obama is orchestrating for the US economy.

They should also give some thought to opening up some of their science funding to contrary studies.

NATO head Rasmussen gave a policy speech today in London in which he said NATO intelligence has substantial evidence that Russia and its agents are actively supporting EU NGO anti fracking protests in order to keep Europe strategically dependent on Russian gas, giving Russia the strategic upper hand. Ukraine deja view. Greenpeace is one of the leading NGO’s protesting fracking in the UK. Now if only MI5 would get on the case there…

Not a fan of Greenpeace in its modern incarnation by any means. But I’m just as leery of cheering on India. They really are engaging in practices that are genuinely bad for the environment and their own people and they should be called out on those.
There have been articles on this site in regard to Palm Oil Plantations and the destruction they cause to bio-diversity and the lifestyle of the people dislocated when they are forcibly ejected from their homes so a Plantation can be created. Looks like India might be one of the reasons for them.

I am astonished that you think MI5, GCHQ and Special Branch are not monitoring Greenpeace. What induces you to think that?

Greenpeace and the EPA are one in the same. Time to look into Greenpeace funding and see how many foreign $$ have actually been spent on influencing the EPA

I clearly prefer the Indian approach. And they are right in that if the civilized world unilaterally disarms itself in every possible way, the uncivilized world wins. When NGOs focus locally and ignore what the rest of the world does, Russia and the oil shieks win.

Now this is what I’m talkin’ about. Good stuff chaps!

According to the report, public protests in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli region — which produces 15,000 MW energy — were being engineered by Greenpeace, “actively aided and led by foreign activists.”

Yet none of the funders from the West burns cattle dung to cook food. How many people in India don’t have access to electricity. These people are evil, selfish and hypocritical.
In 2012 Greenpeace raised $344 million worth of donations.
In India a quarter of the population don’t have access to electricity. Imagine if one quarter of the people in the USA or UK didn’t have access to electricity? There would be outrage and calls for “We must act now!” India is acting yet Greenpeace wants them to have less, so they can have more>/b>.
Here are images of Indian women making cow dung cakes used for cooking. There is lots of dung around her. Maybe Greenpeace thinks it’s sustainable and environmentally friendly – as long as THEY inhale the toxins from dung and get arsenic poisoning.

The plants are taking over. This was firmly established in “The Little Shop of Horrors” and in “The Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, and in Sierra Club and Greenpeace goals, and in higher CO2 levels. The IPCC is warning us, to stop plant expansion. I mean, I personally like the greenery around me and deer and turkeys coming into my back yard, but I’m selfish. W need to cut back plant growth and the species that eat plants.

If Global Warming, er Climate Change really happens, Floridians, Arizonans and South Texan immigrants will reverse-migrate to New York, Minnesota and Illinois, and depopulate the Sunbelt. If UN Agenda 21 happens and ends AC it could happen sooner. We could see mass partial-northward migration to NorthCarolina, and on the West Coast, NorCal, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. Buy land now in these places. I did. Also, for our “ustainable economy’ future, invest in goose farming, for down clothing, sheep raising for wool production, which you’re going to need when it gets cold and bad fossil-fuel heating is outlawed.
I liived in electricity-outage Oregon at -22C, for 3 days. Down sleeping bags were COMFY. Getting out of them was hard, but you could do it. If sustainability meant doing it all winter, could we do it? Yes, but not everybody would be willing to subject himself/herself to it.
Al Gore made “AnInconvenient Truth” then moved to Santa Barbara. If he really believed in Catastrophic Global Warming, why didn’t he move to Alaska or the Northwest Territories?
How many global-warmisst fear-mongers are moving to north of the 54th parallel? Just count em up. I had a friend who tried it, She had a blast. But she eventually moved back down to the 37th, and is active in the global warmest movement, but she’s not planning to move back up to Alaska in her golden years.

Nice to know that others think Greenpeace are a terrorist organisation

June 19, 2014 12:48 pm

A bit harsh, but eventually they will learn how lucky they are to deal with “friendly” nations like the US. A couple more countries join Russia and India, and they will be labeled a terrorist organization.

Thank you India… thank you terror. Thank you disillusionment. Thank you frailty, thank you consequence. Thank you, thank you silence. (it’s a quote)
More countries should be doing this. Stop these hugely financed groups that are doing their best to completely destroy our civilization and discourage third world countries from becoming civilized. Tides, for a start. Packard Foundation. Shut them up, muzzle them, put the ringleaders in jail.
Smarter people built an intricate and functioning system to make political change happen. Billionaires skirting these systems to ram their ignorant socialist ideals should be punished, harshly.

Nah, check out the Biodiesel requirements of the EU if you want to see the real picture of what’s going on in Indonesia. Rainforests cleared, huge peat deposits burnt off. Pigmy Elephants and Tigers displaced. Orangutans slaughtered.
Very green eh ?
Yeah right, the Greenies couldn’t find their own rear ends using both hands.
