'Vortex of Stupidity' – the sequel

Many thought the media’s focus on the ‘Polar Vortex’ this winter was pretty stupid, well another kind of similarly stupid vortex is about to reappear again. All we can hope is that it dies and never comes back after this episode.

The first one was dumb enough. But a second one is industrial strength weapons grade stupid.

“A freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites – and only Fin and April can save the Big Apple.”

Do. Not. Watch.

Hopefully the SyFy channel will get the message this time and this thing will be dead forever.

Sharknado was the best movie ever produced in the history of the film industry. They had to debut it on television because the demand was too great for theaters to handle it.
Sharknado 3 is already in production and will debut on SyFy network in 2015: The best moves evar!

To be kinda-sorta serious about something that should never be taken seriously, I think the closer they tie sharknadoes to AGW, the better. And it absolutely boggles my mind that Anthony wouldn’t love sharnknadoes. Have the sunspots, or lack thereof, finally gotten to him?!

According to today’s news, there is something out in the water that is eating 9-foot-long sharks! Sounds like a little payback, to me…

Whadayamean, “Do. Not. Watch.”?
I hardly ever watch made of TV movies, Sharknado was the best one I watched all year! Come to think of it, it was the only one I watched all year.
At least the Sharknado series (oh my – series) doesn’t take itself seriously whereas “The Day after Tomorrow” was hoping to inspire a national dialog about CAGW.
Bring it on! I can think of several places and people in NYC where a real shark would be an upgrade. Well, until fish rot sets in.

No! Don’t discourage this! It is exactly what we need to underscore the stupidity of AGW catastrophic and equally bizarre press releases! PERFECT!

I love “Day After Tomorrow.” One of the great disaster flicks. Whenever it comes on I say, “Hey, they’re showing the Al Gore movie again!” Of course, nothing will ever top the 2012 movie where the world was ending, with the possible exception of Avatar, where an American (natch) saves a whole ecosystem the old-fashioned way: By winning a fistfight with the bad guy.
Really, Anthony, what’s not to love?

Old Grey Badger
June 9, 2014 12:48 pm

I agree with Pamela. The first Sharknado was a hoot. Tell everyone you know to watch this, so they see the silliness of CAGW alarmism taken to its (il)logical conclusion.

Anthony! These things are designed not to be taken seriously. Badly written, acted, realised – it’s a bit like the Producers – they want the worst movie possible so viewers’ morbid curiousity gets the better of them.

As difficult as it is to do a good parody of the climate kook movement, what with so may self-parodies provided unintentionally, Sharknado is a pretty good stab at it.

I think there is a just a little going beyond the facts in that story.
All that they really know is that the monitoring device became detached from the shark, and showed a period of warmth.
Jumping to the conclusion that it was still attached to the shark when it became warm, and that the warmth was due to it being inside some creature is pure speculation.
Much more likely that it became detached by some other means, and was picked up by some creature (which may have been quite small), or even that it became detached close to shore, and ended up in the warm shallow water near a beach.
Of course, that doesn’t sound anything like as dramatic, even if it is much more likely.

We thoroughly enjoyed the first Sharknado… certainly one of the very best SyFy “Originals” ever. If you ever get the chance to view it, SyFy’s “Big Ass Spiders” is also a great flick, poking humor at itself, within itself, as did Sharknado. We will definitely be tuned in to Sharknado: the sequel! As others above have mentioned, I enjoy seeing sharknados tied into AGW/ACC… I dare say, they most certainly deserve each other given similar levels of dubious science! 😉

Sharknado stopped by greenhouse gas!
Spoiler alert!
I happened to watch the end of Sharknado. Not a great film but if anybody else is planning to watch here’s how it ends.
The tornado full of sharks is stopped when a Hummer full of explosives is driven into the tornado. Just before the driver jumps out of the Hummer,
he pushes the nitrous oxide button to accelerate the vehicle into the swirling shark filled tornado. The Hummer explodes, stopping the tornado.
Thank you nitrous oxide! Without this greenhouse gas, the Hummer could not have accelerated enough to get into the tornado,
and the sharknado would have continued dropping sharks on the city, and people would have continued to be devoured.

Maybe it was after “Support Your Local Sheriff”, but I read somewhere that when spoofs of a serious genre become more popular then the serious, the serious genre is dead. (How may westerns are on prime-time TV now?)
I hope Hollywood makes more spoofs of GAGW.

Glad you liked Steve Irwin, Jake. Many Australians didn’t. We do say “crikey”, just not anywhere near that often. All the same, his death was a sad loss, although he was a “big risk-taker” and being speared through the heart by a stingray was a wimpy way to go, albeit extraordinary.

The very few times I saw Irwin’s shows, I was less than impressed. Most of the situations seemed contrived (some were so obviously setup), and felt they bordered on animal abuse. I certainly don’t wish death on anyone (well I guess that’s not strictly true), but I felt he did more harm than good. Getting in an animal’s face doesn’t show you how the animal acts in nature, it only shows you how the animal acts when an obnoxious prat gets in their face. The same goes for any of the other copycats, such as Jeff Corwin.

Sharknado is a must-watch for the entire family. To echo another commenter, It’s so bad that it’s good! This points out the ridiculousness of outrageous claims and implausible failures in science. It fun to watch, then say it’s based on the same science as global warming.
