get_handoutsBillionaire Tom Steyer creates fund for Climate Victims

Eric Worrall writes:

Californian Billionaire Tom Steyer has just created a fund for victims of climate related extreme weather. The new initiative is intended to be 50% funded by Tom Steyer, and 50% funded by fellow travelers.

Steyer has apparently raised the money by selling his stake in Kinder Morgan, a large Texan Oil Company. http://www.kindermorgan.com

Steyer has also been devoting significant funds to helping Democrats campaign against Republican candidates in the upcoming senate elections.

Appart from wondering whether my “climate related” tick scare might qualify for a grantĀ  http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/01/17/one-benefit-of-the-australian-heat-wave/ , Steyer’s new fund raises an interesting question in my mind, about American Politics;

Is it OK for large amounts of oil money to be expended influencing American politics, as long as the oil money is spent on helping Democrat candidates?

Look. I live in the American desert southwest, one of the fastest warming places on earth (particularly in the summer – it gets warm pretty quick here around this time of year!). Shouldn’t I just be permanently subsidized? It’s only fair. Right? Right?!?
Oh, incidentally, I just returned from a vacation to Oregon and drove. We ended up driving through Chico, Ca, Anthony, your home town! Beautiful town, in a beautiful state. My lovely wife went to Chico State and she told me Chico gets quite hot in the summer. Anthony, I think you also deserve a subsidy as a hot weather “climate victim”.
If all goes well with this victomhood thingy, perhaps next time I’m through we can have get together and have a nice glass of chardonnay (funded of course by our new-found source of income) and swap victim stories.
Chow.

The Ways I have been “victimized”, by Global Warming”!
I have been forced to endure:
Perspiration stains on my favourite blouse. Frizzy hair from humidity. Using a lot of air conditioning. Having to keep on hand, a large supply of “Mr. Freezie’s”, sunscreen, sunhats, and beach umbrellas. Going through a lot of ice, and assorted cold drinks. “Forced” to cook outdoors, over an open flame, to escape the indoor heat. Occasionally forced to jump into large bodies of cool water, to escape the global warming. I have had to purchase special tinted glasses, to reflect the suns rays. etc. etc. I think you can see, I have been suffering terribly. Oh ya, some of my plants have died from “drought”. That’s got to be worth a few more bucks! Please send my cheque as soon as possible, as they are predicting another hot summer…..er, I mean Global warming episode! šŸ™‚ Might as well grab some….it’s OUR money!!! LOL!

Why?
Because:
IF there is a fund for climate victims,
THEN there must really be climate victims.
SO, TAXPAYERS, FUND MY WINDMILLS!
Investment: $1 billion in propaganda
Return: $1 billion, one in subsidies
= Net gain.

What about the law suits and death threats, we are victims of no free speech. One fellow student of mine told me I didn’t like windmills and solar panels because my electricity would cost more. Bloody oath I do when clean energy has no effect on their climate change. They took a loan out for 36,000 dollars to fit solar to their small hobby farm, and then put it up for sale, and it was so over priced they couldn’t sell it. Think of the interest they would have to pay.

FATHERā€™S DAY TRIBUTE
Hereā€™s to all the genuine dads (whether or not biological).
Dads are there when you need them.
They will lay down their lives, if necessary. Gladly.

They stand up for truth ā€“ even when it hurts. Gladly.

they sang together as they always had.
The voices had changed, but the love remained.

The solution to climate change
replacement for fossil fuel powered electrical generation

Urgent action required, appears to be the consensus of the most learned climate change advocates!
The collective wisdom acquired through trial and error test applications of alleged solutions, has been enlightening, and sobering as agenda driven rhetoric failed time after time to deliver a replacement technology for the fossil fuel powered electrical generating facilities, which are the primary sources.of GHG the alleged culprits inducing global climatic destabilization!
Most recently 2 documents have corroborated a much maligned document I wrote!
In My Opinion! lnkd.in/ifM2au@Inc
* Leaked Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) the report says that agricultural output may drop by as much as two percent every decade for the rest of this century, compared to what it would have been without the effects of climate change. Demand for food is reportedly expected to rise 14 percent each decade during that time, exacerbating the food supply issue.

Unfortunately building conventional nuclear facilities is not realistic due to the costs associated with safety issues.
This leaves you with one option other than Geo-engineering “A New Nuclear Technology”!
Geo-engineering is the newest subsidy for the fossil fuel industry and is wrought with unknown risks and dangers and therefore not an option.
The New Nuclear Technology I propose is as follows:

another good, clean billionaire:
5 June: Bloomberg: Buffettā€™s $26 Billion Power Bet in West Seen Paying Off
By Lynn Doan and Naureen S. Malik
The energy unit of Buffettā€™s Berkshire Hathaway Inc., with the help of Californiaā€™s grid operator, is moving to unite the holdings under a single market capable of dispatching power across seven states every five minutes. The system, designed to handle sudden swings in supply and demand, would revolutionize the markets from Oregon to Nevada, where 38 transmission operators manually balance their territories on an hourly basis.
The move would be a game-changer for the renewables that Berkshire Hathaway Energy Co. has accumulated over the past decade, including two of the worldā€™s largest solar farms, and for other clean-power producers, according to those who trade in the regionā€™s markets…
***Transmission operators across the U.S. are struggling to manage record volumes of variable resources such as wind and solar coming online to meet state renewables mandates. Power prices, already weighed down by a 66 percent drop in natural gas since July 2008, can slide to zero or negative at times when output unexpectedly surges, pressuring profits for gas, nuclear and coal generators…
To bring this growing collection of renewables onto the grid, ā€œyou really need to have better tools — situational awareness, speed and wide areas of diversity,ā€ PacifiCorpā€™s Bird said. ā€œThe West lacks that, and this, from our point of view, is critical.ā€

u have to laugh!
3 June: Bloomberg: Sandrine Rastello: Coal-Fired Plant in Kosovo Tests World Bank Clean-Air Pledge
The half-century-old plant near the capital, Pristina, produces a third of the nationā€™s electricity by burning lignite…
Chronic power outages hobble the countryā€™s $7 billion economy, the poorest in Europe after Moldova.
Kosovoā€™s government is asking the World Bank to help finance a new plant that would provide a reliable power supply while still tapping the nationā€™s lignite reserves, the worldā€™s fifth largest. The proposal is forcing the lender and its biggest shareholder, the U.S., to make an exception in their clean-energy commitments and concede that burning coal can be the fastest route out of poverty…
ā€œWeā€™re going to avoid coal except in the most exceptional circumstances, and in this case, it is one of the exceptional circumstances,ā€ World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said in a May 30 interview…
Containing less energy and more carbon, lignite is cheaper than hard coal and has seen a recent revival in Europe as policy makers allowed mines to be expanded to drive down power prices…
The Kosovo project — a two-unit, 600-megawatt plant that would be fed coal from nearby state-owned mines — is estimated by the government to cost less than 1 billion euros ($1.4 billion)…
U.S. and European companies are lining up to bid on the project. New York-based ContourGlobal LP and Sithe Global Power LLC, which is owned by funds managed by Blackstone (BX) Group LP, were pre-approved as bidders, along with Turkish company Park Holding AS, according to Economic Development Minister Fadil Ismajli…
To lure investors and their financiers spooked by political or credit risks, the World Bank would offer about $60 million in loan guarantees that would kick in if the government failed to meet obligations such as supplying coal or purchasing electricity…
Kosovoā€™s future with coal is ā€œa test of the ambiguity theyā€™ve left on the table,ā€ said Scott Morris, a former deputy assistant secretary for development finance and debt at the U.S. Treasury Department…
This time, the bankā€™s largest member-nation appears more supportive, with officials from the U.S. Agency for International Development recommending the project in a September report.
Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said during a May 8 congressional hearing that ā€œfor the poorest countries, we continue to have an exception for coal facilities.ā€

Bloomberg’s Morales interviews Yvo De Boer. good luck (or not) with China, guys!
5 June: Bloomberg: Alex Morales: Climate Treaties Like Kyoto Aren’t Coming Back: Ex-UN Climate Chief
The U.S. announcement could tilt the goal of UN climate change negotiations, away from an “international, legally binding” treaty, to a patchwork of national commitments. Pacts like the Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. Senate blocked by a 95-0 vote in 1997, are probably a thing of the past, said former UN climate chief Yvo De Boer. He is now director-general of the Global Green Growth Institute in Seoul…
Q: What’s the deal with American Republicans and climate change?
A: I remember George W. Bush at the beginning of his first term being extremely critical of climate change as an issue. I remember Condoleezza Rice joyfully calling the EU ambassadors into her office and saying Kyoto was dead. And by the end of the second term, Bush was saying that climate change was a global issue that requires a global response. So we all have our learning curves and conservatives are not immune to learning.
Q: Do you think people are getting UN climate talks fatigue? The wrangling seems endless.
A: I think they are. I often have the feeling that the climate talks are a lot like those terrible American soap operas where every episode is incredibly exciting but if you donā€™t watch for 2 years, you donā€™t miss anything. That’s why I think political leaders engaging in the UN Secretary-General’s [September] summit, and political leadership in Paris, is so critical.
Q: How important are the U.S. and China to an agreement?
A: Everything revolves around China and the United States. Much of what is agreed in Paris will flow from a U.S.-Sino willingness to engage.

“Is it OK for large amounts of oil money to be expended influencing American politics, as long as the oil money is spent on helping Democrat candidates?”
Of course its OK, because (in the eyes of the Left) it is peoples money being returned to the people. Similarly, the Oil industry is OK when there is a Lefty govt, because the taxes are being used for worthy causes, but when a Righty govt gets elected it suddenly becomes exploitation of the people for the benefit of the rich.

We’ve had a terribly cold and wet winter and spring, our apple trees have barely produced blossoms. That means no homemade apple crumble and custard (AC&C) later this year. Strictly speaking, we could have the custard, but without the AC bit, it’d be rubbish.
I think it’s high time for an AC&C reparations fund, financed by Greenies, rather than us financing all their insane ideas. A bit of role reversal.

What about these victims of extreme weather from 1935 and 1936?
Where are the worsening trends in extreme weather and/or climate?
Ya wanna see bad weather and climate?
Below are some of the effects of the Little Ice Age on humanity from the literature. In short we had crop failures, hunger, mass migration, epidemics, great storms in the North Atlantic, Europe wide witch hunts, endemic Malaria in England & part of the Arctic Circle, higher wildfire frequency in circumboreal forests, strong droughts in central Africa (1400ā€“1750), social unrest in China, dead Central American coral reef, century-scale droughts in East Africa, large increases in flood magnitude (upper Mississippi tributaries), environmental and economic deterioration in Norway, decline in average height of Northern European men, climate became drier on the Yucatan Peninsula, sudden and catastrophic end of the Norse Western Settlement in Greenland, River Thames freeze-overs, agro-ecological, socioeconomic, and demographic catastrophes, leading to the General Crisis of the Seventeenth Century.

June 8, 2014 6:37 am

I don’t exactly know how to approach this. Allow me to start with an old Seinfeld episode wherein George, after an encounter with particularly cold water, is confronted with the humiliation of…”shrinkage.” In front of his girlfriend. (I added that last sentence in case one needs further explanation.) Now, we all know that the bitterly cold winter was caused by a polar vortex from CAGW. We know this from John Holdren. Anyway, shrinkage is, indeed, the ultimate male humiliation (trust me, I don’t know this from experience). And, since the cold temperature causative of this malady (pretty spiffy wordsmithing, eh?) comes from global warming (or, at least that’s the excuse Holdren uses) then I would say many men can claim to be victims of climate change. Perhaps the compensation can be based on each millimeter of degradation. And this way, all the little d..ks can be compensated by one big one.

Maybe that’s what he likes about it.
There was a study/poll done that asked: Would you want to make $300,000 a year, when everyone else is making $300,000 a year? Or to make $150,000 a year, when everyone else is making $50,000?
Most people said they would choose the latter.
It was the same when Caesar was marching through the Alps, and they came upon a tiny, dirt poor village. One of Caesar’s lieutenants jokingly asked Caesar if he would want to be the headman there.

Leftist irony never ceases to amaze and confound…
Tom Steyer giving the DEMS $100 million to appease his conscience for making $billions off the oil industry is just another example of the Immutable Law of Leftist Irony (aka ILLI).
Steyer’s $100 million will help elect more leftists, who will proceed to implement more wealth redistribution schemes (which CAGW is merely one example) that’ll cost the US economy $trillions in lost industrial output to China/India, cost millions of jobs and increase the costs of everything…
All this socio-economic damage for 0.04F of reduced global warming by 2050, if we cut CO2 emissions 30% (according to EPA’s own climate model estimates)…

There should be a lot astronomical data to create a picture of climate change from the past, through the present and for the future. I say this because of the fact that all cycles and sub-cycles have changed its rules, which can be expressed mathematically and diagrammatically. This is a very serious offer and I think that this will ever come true, no matter who, but probably will be someone who understands what real science. If this is Mr. Tom does not read, I ask the editor of the newspaper to him that my transfer. Make a deal on all procedures to resolve this issue. If necessary, I can give you some general information as evidence that my assumption agreement with previous measurements and findings. Sunspot cycle and the real indicator, but not a causal change the appearance of the sun.

Will he fund any of the 3 percenter(?) scientist who apparently don’t buy the whole carbon dioxide is going to end life as we know it BS. People who believe science is about true facts and not about ancient witch doctor opportunism. The kind of opportunism where you pay the scammer so the bad things he is making up that wouldn’t happen anyways don’t happen. Steyer should pay people who have there careers ruined by politically motivated warmist who will not stand for any dissent in the ranks. If they allowed dissent their whole fairy tale would fall out from beneath them. Anyways it is interesting how much oil money goes into the warming debate.

The City of Chicago needs all of that money because of the coldest winter on record from December 2013 through March 2014 and all of that snow removal and climate related hardship because: polar vortex and global warming. Other than that, clever but expensive propaganda to get people to contemplate the powerful combination of victimhood, enmity and compensation.

No rain yet in June for dryland wheat farmers on the Columbia Plateau. Without late rain, the kernel don’t plump out. This is unprecedented! And extreme!
Please send money.

It got too cold here in my house this morning, and I had to turn my furnace back on. I should get some help with my heating bill. Summer is less than two weeks away!

Is it OK for large amounts of oil money to be expended influencing American politics, as long as the oil money is spent on helping Democrat candidates?
When used as an adjective, it’s “Democratic.” Highly partisan Republicans tend to use “Democrat” as an adjective as a way of delegitimizing the Democratic Party, and signaling their far-right wing bona fides. The majority of commenters here may well be far-right wing Republicans, but not all of us are.
