Hillary Clinton's claim about young people worrying about climate change as a 'major issue' doesn't hold up under scrutiny

Clinton wants ‘mass movement’ on climate change

By KEN THOMAS Associated Press

TEMPE, Ariz. — Hillary Rodham Clinton says young people understand the significant threat of climate change and that she hopes there will be a mass movement that demands political change.

The potential 2016 presidential candidate says at a Clinton Global Initiative University panel that young people are much more committed to doing something to address climate change. Clinton says it isn’t “just some ancillary issue” but will determine the quality of life for many people.

The former secretary of state cited global warming as a major issue that students could face in the future.

She made the comments Saturday during an interview with late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel at Arizona State University.

===============================================================

Readers may recall WUWT’s recent report of the recent Gallup Poll and how climate fared.

New Gallup poll shows climate change near the bottom of things worth worrying about

worrying_topics

This is very similar to the survey showing Europeans worrying a lot more about almost all other issues than global warming, https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152349665523968

And, environmental worry now is even lower that when Climategate happened in 2009, and is the lowest in over a decade:

Americans' Worry About the Environment Over Time

Source: http://www.gallup.com/poll/167843/climate-change-not-top-worry.aspx

And here’s what Gallup discovered about young people:

Source: http://www.gallup.com/poll/167879/not-global-warming-serious-threat.aspx

The majority of the 18-29 year-olds, 57 percent, don’t see global warming/climate change  as a serious threat to their way of life.  And, that thinking holds the majority of opinion across the board of age groups.

Clinton’s opinion on this is just more empty-headed rhetoric with no basis in fact.

Even if her claim was correct, the young tend to be easily deceived and fooled. It’s just more deception from the “Climite Change” crowd.

The alarmists need to define their terms. I still don’t know if “climate change” and “global warming” are synonymous or if climate change means global warming plus some mythical quality (ineffable, beyond empirical scrutiny).

Looks like she’s going to run and try to be the next Obama.
I saw a clip of her before Congress when, as the First Lady, she was promoting her health care proposal. (I think that’s what it was.) As best as I can remember, in the context of raising taxes on ammo something like 4,000%, she was asked if she would control peoples behavior through taxes. Her answer was, “I would if I could.”
(If anyone has a link to that, please post it. I’ve looked for it but can’t find it. But I did see it.)

But doing so would make them falsifiable. Can’t have that….

There is some truth to Hillary’s comment about, “global warming as a major issue that students could face in the future.
That is, if Hillary’s agenda goes forward, and the ‘defeat global warming!‘ programs divert all sorts of money into subbing solar and wind for fossil fuels and nuclear, young people will inherit a future of much greater poverty, shorter, harder lives, lost hope, and few prospects. And forget about ultimately moving industry off-planet.
So, young people had best be concerned about global warming of the secular religious kind — the kind promoted by Hillary Clinton — because it’s a serious danger for them.

Nothing Hillary Clinton has ever said holds up to even the lowest level of scrutiny. She turned $1,000 investment in cattle futures into $100,000… right. I just don’t recall, I just don’t recall where the Rose law firm billing records are. Then the housekeeper finds them on the coffee table of the Clintons’ living room. What difference does it make, indeed. Her political career launched in a uniquely pernicious symbiosis with the silver tongued liar-in-Chief Bill Clinton. I wouldn’t allow either one of them in my home, I would just as soon sup with the devil. That defines a distinction without a difference.

I’m involved in the local school system as a volunteer. They are teaching our young people that CO2 is pollution and is causing all the warming and humans are entirely responsible.
I gave a talk to 2 different groups of 4th graders the week before last that were studying glaciers in their science class. I discussed natural cycles that caused changes in glaciers in our past, then narrowed it down to the last 2,000 years, then the last 100 years. I showed them graphs of temperature and brought up and related it to CO2. Photosynthesis got some time.
It went well but I felt bad for the 2nd group after leaving. They were dumbfounded to hear this side and I candy coated it in a way to leave politics out, just pure science and it included the fact that CO2 is a greenhouse gas…………..but not pollution.
One boy kept raising his hand and saying “but isn’t planting a tree a good thing!!” as he didn’t know how else to respond with his young, brainwashed mind, even when I would agree with him that planting a tree is a good thing but carbon dioxide is a good thing too.

I recently toured Biosphere 2 which is in Oracle, Arizona and run by the University of Arizona. Over the course of a tour running about 90 minutes for which some 30 people paid $20 apiece, the guide repeatedly harangued us with falsehoods about global warming and carbon poisoning. We were told that by 2050 the global temperature will have risen by 7 degrees and the oceans will be inundating the land (no numbers given), that species will be dying in great numbers, etc etc. There were also anti-capitalist shots (evil developers clearing the mangrove swamps) but those were just icing on the cake of warmist illiteracy being served at what purports to be a serious climate research facility. It would be interesting to know how many tax dollars are going into their budget.

Hillary’s message is part of a very active current campaign driven directly from Washington DC political and media powers to sell the notion that only the government can do something about climate change … of course, from Washington, among other places (London, Berlin, Paris anyone?).
The campaign started in February in earnest, following the so-called State of the Union message. Some aspect of it pops up in our local newspaper 2 – 3 times a week, usually written by some faceless, nameless, automaton whether carbon-based or otherwise.
Ms. Clinton is on board for obvious reasons. She needs the support of the current political and media powers-that-be for her 2016 plans.
As the Soviet Union taught the world … Party-Think is dangerous, very dangerous. George Orwell knew, and warned.

And it is doubly ironic – if not iconic! – that the very same “Biosphere experiment” they are exploiting for money IS the best example of an utter failure of the biologists/GAIA /enviro’s “models” failure to even create an artificial environment for even 30 – 90 days.
CO2? They nearly DIED from lack of oxygen as their most basic food plants failed, died, and consumed oxygen decaying! Their food gave out, they couldn’t maintain water, air, and survival without bringing in material from the “real world” (that “artificial” outside materialistic capitalistic world they swore to retreat from) .

That does not mean they are right.
On the other hand, older people remember that all these nasty things happened before, and can put it all into perspective.

More drivel from a politician whose thinking only confirms their disconnect from what is real. Much more to the point for our children’s future is the complete mess politicians and their apparatchiks in the bureaucracies are making of life, not least the lack of a coherent strategy for the economy that will help encourage business and jobs to stay in America. What is needed Ms Clinton is work for the future citizens of the US so they can build a life, it being their output and the wealth it creates that will prevent the collapse of the nation into a cesspit of hopelessness, the destination already for far too many. The US has been fortunate that despite the resistance of much of what passes for government the costs of energy has declined thanks to the inventiveness of those in the private sector. Instead of Mr Obama trying to take credit for this lets us have some honesty and see those who achieved this gain get the kudos. Beyond this it is about time Congress showed some grip on the issues that face America. Start by getting rid of the EPA!!

I’ve read it somewhere else, so it’s not mine, but it’s pretty accurate:
The strategy of the progressives: let’s double down on the policies that brought a city or country to the abyss. Their grand designs didn’t work because they didn’t have enough power or control. They always want more. Then their policies still don’t work, and they blame conservatives.

Democrats are trying whatever they can to try and influence the mid-term elections. At this stage, they’re looking at a tidal wave of defeat. If they do indeed get defeated, around the time of the presidential elections, they’ll be an inquiry into Benghazi (instigated by the Reps of course) and that’ll sling enough mud to take Hillary out of the field.

Here is a Rasmussen poll in contrast, about global warming more specifically than “quality of the environment”:
The percentage believing global warming is primarily caused by human activity averaged in the mid-30s during 2010, but propaganda has actually managed to get it to go up to 44% in the last poll in February 2014. It has gone up and down (often higher in the summer than the winter), but the downturn of 2009-2010 has overall been fading.
In other words, nominally the warmists are winning in popular opinion.
Specific data: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/current_events/environment_energy/environment_update
The poll question isn’t quite my favorite, as someone could think global warming was mostly manmade (though it isn’t) and yet minor/beneficial or otherwise not support the standard “solution” package, but still it gives a probable idea of trends.
While I am a skeptic, I’ve observed, for each and every major affiliation, a tendency of people to be biased in favor of thinking their side is more popular or winning more than is actually the case. Skeptics overestimate how well they are doing.
A lot of the superficial gains of skeptics recently, in terms of advancement of CAGW movement policies being stalled, are largely a side effect of the economic recession, an effect potentially temporarily. The CAGW movement has realized to increasingly target those most easily influenced, children, working indoctrination further into school curriculums, and it is fighting the long war in that regard.
Will the CAGW movement win? I don’t think so, but, if cooling later this decade and beyond was somehow much less than I expect, if future cooling was not enough to exceed their capability to rewrite temperature records, they still could succeed. What people become when indoctrinated enough with such and related anti-growth / anti-capitalist / anti-industry / anti-human ideologies is not pretty to behold, and all climate related is only one head of a hydra, not its heart.
To win, they don’t have to get everyone to really believe in CAGW (and their experienced elites tend to know better but secretly view it as a lie convenient to general ideological-political goals), just expand somewhat the coalition of the honest-but-ignorant and the knowledgeable-but-dishonest.
As for the worry about “quality of the environment” poll data, a lot of what it shows is how much there are extra temporary distractors at the time: The Iraq War, the recession, and “Cold War 2” with Russia each cause dips. For instance, expect worry about the environment to go up months from now if there isn’t another major non-environmental crisis.

March 23, 2014 3:38 pm

I guess Ms Clinton did not get the memo:
Recent satellite evidence from the Japanese climate satellite IBUKU shows that the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is coming from temperature-induced high vegetation equatorial regions of the earth and not from human use of fossil fuels in Europe, UK or US.
http://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/climate-change-nothing-to-do-with-humans-1-5947459

March 23, 2014 3:38 pm

Addition to recent prior comment:
To clarify a little further, while the rise to now 44% believing global warming is mostly manmade might not seem like a lot, keep in mind:
a) The percentages believing it was “planetary trends” (bad choice of words in the poll but what available) or “other reason” were only 35% and 7% respectively.
b) The percentage believing it to be mostly manmade has mostly been going up since 2011, which is what I mean by the warmists winning in popular opinion, in trend.
c) This was a poll of U.S. likely voters, a group with far more skeptics than most of the world.
d) Most harmful measures in politics don’t depend on a majority actually, just a combo of serious proponents with many near-neutrals not actively opposing enough.

Secretary of State Kerry was out in the developing countries in the last few months lecturing the people on seriousness of climate change. He thought that people got their message as they gave him a rousing ovation. Former Secretary Clinton did it before him. The citizens of developing countries might be poor but they are not stupid and with the current state of information flow, they know that US has not ratified the Kyoto Protocol even when the democrats were in power. Secretaries Clinton and Kerry were strong leaders in the senate and they never even made the motion even if it will be surely defeated to ask the President to put the Kyoto Protocol for ratification. Vice President Al Gore did the same. The people in developing countries were just polite in welcoming their guests but in local conversations those American leaders were really a shame to their country— people were talking about HYPOCRISY.

Joe Bastardi
March 23, 2014 4:17 pm

I think most skeptics are not realistic. We have to understand IT DOESNT MATTER IF WE ARE RIGHT TO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE DEMONIZING US. By that I mean this idea that somehow we are winning when the powers that be continue to shut down the very sources that would make our nation strong and self dependent, means they could care less about what is right and wrong as far as what is really driving the climate. If you actually cared, why would make the statements we see here, or coming out of the current SOS, given data going in the opposite direction. You wouldn’t. Because they don’t care about all this except its a smokescreen to continue to accomplish their real mission, which most of the people that actually care about what is right and wrong about drives the climate are not involved in.
You have another group that cares that they have become important because of this. Before this issue came to life, can you name one climatologist that had “rock star” status. Yah plenty of weathermen, from local to national but its like this was their chance to get on the big stage. Heroes and Enemies of the people, dispatches from the front lines of “Climate Wars” tales of storms of grandchildren, its like some study in delusions of grandeur.
You have to understand this. By standing for what you believe in, you are a threat to the social order they cherish.. the lets all get together mentality ( providing they are in charge). The very idea that a single person with a simple answer based in truth can challenge them, yet alone be correct, is a huge threat to the social order they seek to be in charge of ( and in many ways are now). So the fight here is not about whether the earth is warming or cooling and why, its about something I think is far more sinister, the destruction of the will of the individual to stand for what he believes in. If we understand that, then you see the so called fight is about something they will use to achieve their ends, no matter what the means.
Given all the evidence out there, what other conclusion can one come too? The fact is that men of good will are at a disadvantage if the fight is not what they believe it is. So all the polls in the world mean nothing to people who really dont care about the answer, but only care that they get their way.

Consensus about climastrology and now youth poll numbers about the global warming standstill. After over a decade of high propaganda they have failed. Yeah, kids will say they are concerned until they grow up and have other more important things to think about. They will also realise that the weather is changeable and prone to a few light showers with a south westerly breeze. We have NEVER had it so good as per standards of living and the weather or climate.
• Holocene climate extremes before 1850
• Great storms of the Little Ice Age
• The greening biosphere in recent decades

Cut us some slack here Joe Bastardi,we see this religion too.
All scams, cult and popular delusions run on those rails.
The tale of the Emperors new clothes has all these ingredients.
We see these liars, self aggrandizing fools and we work to show our non-involved relatives, just how evil these con artists are.
The worm has turned in Australia, here in Canada it is at least stalled.
What I am hearing from your USA Political animals is pure FUD.Desperate FUD.
The progressives have grossly overreached, they know it as Obama care craters in, big government is no citizens friend and the voters appear finally ready to turn on these elected parasites.
The cynical attempts to whip up hysteria over climate change are doomed, too many lies, too many years of drivel, it is a lame attempt at diversion, from the naked contempt your kleptocrats hold your constitution and the citizenry in.
It always takes time to take down the maniacs who lust for power over all, but due to their inherent stupidity they are always willing to help shoot their own feet off.
I know what these statist parasites are, democracy depends on convincing enough other voters that what we see is true.
Hence the advantage sceptics have, truth.
It is slow but lethal to liars.

Clinton cannot discuss the main issues because she fails in all of them. The same Gallup organization polled why people think Hillary should be president. By a large plurality (2 to 1) the top response was because she is a woman. The same poll had a majority not giving any answer. Some would say they did not see any reason she should be president.

Most everyone reading this blog/thread has found it through a search toward “realism”.
So, realize that most long rants only have the first and last paragraphs read.
Unless they are very well written.

It was recently pointed out to each and everyone of us, and the politicians who should be taking notice, that there are 18 year old ex students that are trying to make it in the reality of the workforce and also realising the reality of a world that has not warmed for the entire time of their schooling and now trending down in global temperatures, in stark contrast to the doomy gloomers promoting dodgy science based on faulty climate models, the old Al Gore flim flamming and misrepresentation of climate didn’t happen in their lifetime, so all that is passé, gone dealt with.
They want a strong economy, jobs, earning capacity, along with the ability to buy their own home settle down and live in peace and prosperity. They know now, that will not happen if the same people who predicted that false doom and gloom get control and wreck the economic future of your country.
They are not manipulated and controlled kids anymore, but adults with the ability to think, reason and observe. Hilary and Al, you fooled them once and they are just realising that, so politically dangerous to continue to regard them as fools and try again.

I thought her and Monica’s boyfriend were supposed to be working hard on straightening out some funding irregularities with their “charity”. I wonder if they got that resolved yet. IIRC, it sounded like they needed to put in quite a bit of their personal oversight to get to the bottom of it. Maybe Chelsea’s doing the numbers?

Depends on what your definition of young people is. Does anyone really think that Hillary has a clue as to what young people are concerned about?
Her idea of young people is someone in their 40’s who’s got a lot of time invested in Leftist rhetoric and Climate change propaganda. Along with being a full fledged supporter of the Democrat parties platform and socialist goals.
Remember that Climate Change is just the current label being slapped on an old old ideology that still gathers some power hungry people who know they have all the answers but who know they couldn’t get elected to dog catcher because they’re unelectable for one reason or another.

She is very out of touch to imagine that AGW is a big enough political issue to build her campaign strategy on.

Not surprising. NOTHING this woman says holds up under scrutiny. NOTHING.

Perhaps you’re forgetting her work at the Rose Law Firm, her staunch defense of Jim and Linda McDougal led to….. Oh well, never mind.

Bear in mind, that last comment is coming from someone that actually worked in Little Rock on the White Water investigation. Jim Frei had decided that “there was nothing more to see here”. Nothing Republicans did could have done more damage to their reputation than to let Kenneth Starr begin to lead their witch hunt. Well, it did accomplish one thing. Both parties agreed that it was well past time to let the Special Counsel Statute lapse and die a quiet death.

There is some truth to Hillary’s comment about, “global warming as a major issue that students could face in the future.”

All too true. “Climate Change” is an enormous issue for the next generation. They need to call the alarmists to account for the consequences

Hillary
You should worry more about giant asteroid impact than climate change. Do you know that (geologic) historically earth gets hit by giant asteroids every 10 million years? The last one occurred 65 million years ago. Yup that killed the dinosaurs. We are long overdue for the big one. NASA has identified 90% of near earth asteroids but the 10% unknown can end the world before atmospheric CO2 doubles.

… she hopes there will be a mass movement that demands political change.
Don’t we all !
She was probably the second or third brightest person in Obama’s cabinet, after the Housing Secretary and maybe the UN Ambassadress.

An elitist driven “mass movement” usually means raising a rabble to stick on your opponents, a la Cultural Revolution. Wait a minute, aren’t the greens already demanding that?

Why are most of our politicians such total prats? IMHO they have expended so much of their limited mental abilities climbing the greasy pole that they have naught left to think with when they reach the top.

“Clinton says it isn’t “just some ancillary issue” but will determine the quality of life for many people.”
Yes, if one does what Clinton proposes, it will adversely effect the quality of life for many people for a very long time. Well, those people that it doesn’t kill, that is.

Pandering is the reason why many youth disbelieve what elders tell them when done in such a smarmy sickeningly sweet kisses fashion. Worse, when the Earth itself eventually proves the attempt to overwhelmingly deceive, the ability to attract that vote is harmed for generations.

I take this as a serious sign that the climate scare monger are out of arguments but prepared to grab for totalitarian measures to get their way.
