Current weather in Washington, DC:
Rally organizers peg the number arrested at around 400. Buses were brought in to cart away those who’d been arrested.
Here’s a look at some hilarious photos from the protest. I like the one about Voldemort the best.

Stupid is as stupid does.
Bring back the draft. We might have good use for these folks in Crimea. Just a thought.
The buses all ran bio-diesel, right?
>>morons<<
I’m sure this is just the thing for your résumé when planning for a job on the Huffington Post or with Greenpeace etc. Never did Jim Hansen’s career any harm.
Disingenuous protest, does anyone really believe these paid protests anymore? Obamas cronies such as Warren Buffet profited from the pipeline hair shirt protests. Must be another Obama crony needs to block the tar sands.
Note to self: Don’t go to a climate protest in Washington on March 2nd:
1) It didn’t work well in 2009 for James Hansen, see http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/03/01/hansens-coal-and-global-warming-protest-may-get-snowed-out/
2) It’s my daughter’s birthday.
Hansen and I were in Atlanta the day before at a Mensa climate change conference of all things. Hansen left a day early – I got stuck in Atlanta after an inch of snow. (The airport has one, count ’em, one deicing station.)
Then I got snowed on in northern Georgia early last March too.
All those young faces , so eager, give them another ten years and they will have forgotten what it was all about.
Are those … unmarked FEMA-camp buses?

I sometimes wonder if it would be better to just leave them tied to a fence, or whatever, and ignore them. Hunger . cold and being ignored would be hard to bear I guess…and they could show if they really cared about their cause…
Should have left them all night long!
Why do their thought processes remind me of Skype log-out?
https://soundcloud.com/beyondthebeep/skype-logout
I would have found it impossible to expedite the arrest process. A few hours hanging on a fence in cold and rainy conditions would certainly drive their point home, to themselves.
Just sayin 😎
Why arrest them leave them where they are till morning. Block off the streets to traffic and see how long they last ; after all its Sunday
Who judged it necessary to arrest them? Why didn’t the Community Organizer just organize them? We were led to believe that such was his particular bailiwick ….
Check the demographics of this crowd. Wanna bet an inordinate number of trust fund kids?
FYI Dipchip, the street is already blocked off — “for the duration.” Since 9/11 all the streets immediately adjacent to the White House are closed to regular traffic.
Is this J. Crew’s new ad campaign? I wish I could afford their stuff.
Advice to the police:leave them tied to fence.
useful idiots
I’m unimpressed by a simulated die-in. I demand true convictions ( and that means real corpses,
by the way).
A skilled journalist could elicit some very funny idiocies from these folks, whom I shall call The Young and Clueless Generation.
Tom Clancy’s hero had the proper solution. Actions bear consequences. Exile them to the Amazon jungle, stark naked, so they can commune with Gaia, and experience the “benefits” of pre-civilization that they so heartedly endorse. They can even contribute to their desire for the “Great Die Off”. They want this for others, but NOT FOR THEMSELVES. Why not?
It’s only too bad that the demogogues in charge, will not be present. They will be observing from the safety of their windows of their Jackass Party White House/Congressional Offices.
They caught pneumonia from Global Warming?
I don’t quite understand all this. Maybe the laws are different to where I live. What part of these protests is illegal?
They can count themselves lucky that the use of front loaders for crowd control & dispersion is not yet a reality.
But then, “Soylent Green” was just fiction …
Ah, to be above freezing. We’ve had a few days at 20 below (-30C) and heavy wind, which makes windchill equivalents into the -50 and even -60 range. People don’t protest in that.
I have found that between plus 3 degrees C and minus 2 degrees C with a humidity of around 90%, it feels like minus 40 C. They should have left them there until could really appreciate what fossil fuels can really do.
How great would it be to hear from a bullhorn “The scoops are coming”

Leave them there with their polyester clothes on. And when they have had enough, tell them to walk home.

Google protest permits in Washington DC. They probably didnt have a permit for the White House. The way they looked I wouldn’t permit them near the White House either. LOL
Amazing how quickly the cops cleaned up that litter.
If they were operating at response to crime, time, those protesters would still be hanging off the fence.
Interesting photo, no shortage of money with these kiddies.
Wealthy, gullible and expendable. Whats not to like?
My target market for “Hug a Polar Bear TV”.
Pay up large, hug a wild bear as we film it for posterity, become one with nature.
As of 2014 the only known substitute for intelligence remains stupidity.
I hate to say it to these people (actually the foregoing statement is just a formality), but at some point in time after the freedom of going off to college (expense paid, of course), that it’s going to be tiresome after a few years of living in the parents basement following college graduation and no job prospects. Fun to be passionate and unknowing when one can afford to be but the basement living’s gonna get old.
Odd, they all look a bit dolled up for their fence embracing. You’d think that serious 350.oof zealots would wear clothes their own hands made.
Looking carefully, there sure aren’t many ‘students’ who are planning to make their careers in engineering or science. Safe bet they’re liberal arts majors?
In a couple of days, when the temps are bottomed again, maybe we can get them to lick the metal fences… Through the bullhorn; “all those who favor renewable energy over fossil fuels, lick the fence…”
Those pictures were just hilarious! Fools always are so funny!
“Hold on while I tweet this from my iPhone.”
If it were me… I’d either train a fire hose to gently rain down on their heads and soak them slowly to chill them to the bone or simply get the police to confiscate all their cuff keys!!!
Tree huggers protesting against us wanting to clean up one of the biggest oil slicks in the world.
Reminds me of the same young, earnest, convinced-they-were-right, we-have-to-DO-something! crowd of useful idiots who protested No Nukes! in the late ’70s. Anyone remember the very stupid movie, “The China Syndrome”? All the bad jokes about Three Mile Island? Heck, where Homer Simpson works was inspired by all that, wasn’t it?
And now? They’re all grown up, and crying for “green” energy after being one of the primary reasons no one has built a new reactor in the US in three decades, and their children are now trying to do the same thing with yet another energy resource, without a clue as to the destructive, killing impacts it will have on the poor if they’re successful.
The Acorns certainly didn’t fall far from the tree…
Looking at these few photos, I see very few people of color gullible enough to fall for this nonsense.
Unfortunately, these young folks, instead of being liberal arts students, may be college students heading for a career in research.
If you want to see the best photographic collection of leftard lunacy on the net, I recommend.

How about 10 hrs after the the MJ wears out?
Daughter: Hello, Dad?
Dad: That’s me.
Daughter: Can I talk to mom?
Dad: What’s up?
Daughter: Just lemme talk to mom.
Mom: Here I am, honey. How are you?
Daughter: Not so good. Can you send some money?
Mom: Why?
Daughter: I can’t explain now.
Mom: Where are you?
Daughter: I’m in Washington.
Mom: Where in Washington?
Daughter: I can’t tell you. Could I please have some money. I’m stuck here till I pay them.
Mom: Stuck where?
Daughter: In this place. I can’t tell you now. Please mom, I need some money.
Mom: How much do you need? You know we’ve been tight since your Dad’s been waiting for that contract he can’t get ’cause they won’t build the Keystone pipeline. Honey, I hope you need the money for a good reason.
Daughter: Mother, I hate it when you play the quilt trip on me.
Mom: Huh?
Bill ’em to unlock ’em or cut the chains ($120/hr, 4 hour minimum per person).
Bill ’em for the ride to the pokey (ambulance rates: $600 to pick you up, & $40/mi).
Bill ’em for the cost of housing them ($400/night + meals & heat & water & lights).
Bill ’em to see a judge (lawyer rates: $600/hr + various expenses, 4 hour minimum per person).
Don’t let ’em out until they’ve paid up in full.
They should be released on OR in the morning.
Does the photo show that they tied themselves to the fence with plastic? That doesn’t seem very renewable or recyclable if they have to be released with a pair of blunt scissors.
Why doesn’t the White House fit the railings with permanent metal courtesy-handcuffs, with a master key held by the local police?
It would make it much easier for all concerned.
I would have counseled:
Let them continue their protest undisturbed, but be gracious enough to keep them warm by electrifying the fence.
Maybe they think Voldemort is real. After all, they believe in CAGW.
Dividing these peculiar creatures’ mental by their actuarial ages, the quotient will be somewhere close to Gaia’s Tropic of Cancer (23 degrees north latitude above Earth’s Equator).
“Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.” The best punishment is natural consequences of their actions. The collective wisdom of leaving them zipped to the fence is golden! At least lets have a good dose of bureaucratic bungling and inefficiency that could prolong the attachment to an uncomfortable 4-6 hours at least! I hope if one of my kids is stupid enough to participate in something like this they will have the good sense not to wear tights and a skirt! They probably didn’t come equipped with nippers or trash bags either.
So where were the hoods and burning brands?
Methinks these rich kids should be made to pay the extra $1 a gallon by which the price of gasoline will rise immediately if the KXL is disapproved, for all the poor people already struggling to get by in large part because of energy costs inflated by renewables and other CAGW-driven atrocities. Oh, and in the meantime, take away their driver’s licenses till they pay up. And confiscate everything in their possession made from petroleum.
No Daryl Hannah, no James Hansen?

I have a better idea. Don’t bother arresting the next batch. Just leave them there to rot, after all they did it to themselves. Do that a couple of times and people won’t be so willing to zip tie or chain themselves to the WH fence in the future.
“What, you didn’t bring a key or a knife to cut yourself loose? Sucks to be you.”
young and dumb comes to mind . . . .
Surely the White House lawns have a sprinkler system.
What strikes me at the first glance is how unattractive their women are.
“Stop the pipeline or the people will.”
This is a serious looming threat.
I have no doubt that someone or some small group in this cult will attempt to bust this pipeline wide open.
How will this play in the media?
Precariously vulnerable pipeline easily laid fallible by a group of liberal arts majors with no mechanical skills
or
Much-maligned dangerous pipeline finally wreaks eco-havoc, as predicted – time to go solar.
Application of a [firehose] for a short period of time would have had
Interesting consequences after some time.

Give ’em an Invoice for the costs incured .. would make them think twice in wasting public money in future
Try as I might, I can’t wrap my head around the “logic” of “Even Voldemort hates tar sands”. Setting aside the fact that he’s a fictional character, he’s the personification of evil. To these brainless twits, the “tar sands” are evil (and thus, by extension, so is the KXL pipeline). So we have evil hating evil. That would, I guess, lessen Voldemort’s evilness. That makes anyone who supports the pipeline, and the use of the “tar sands”, i.e., anyone with at least half a brain, more evil than Voldemort.
The mind boggles at the stupidity.

Well, ya know… According to the DoJ, returning Iraq and Afghanistan vets = domestic terrorists. People who just communicated a threat to a planned project will probably get simpering support from the likes of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and Michelle Obama on Twitter. So…ladies and gentlemen who risked their lives or worse, lifetime maiming to protect our nation (including oil pipelines and idiots who protest them) are smeared as dangerous, untrustworthy, while Occupy This and That (while cr@pping on cop cars or cable-tying yourself to fences and threatening mayhem) makes you a hero.
Hmm.
I’m a big believer in civil protest. But this? Nuisance. I agree with a comment upstream—I’d leave ’em there and let ’em test their bladder control. In fact, make it a condition of taking them down…don’t bother until they HAVE wet themselves, and get it on camera. A little shaming goes a looooooong way, I think. Or perhaps not. This IS the Facebook generation, who put all kinds of things on line… Still, waiting until they’ve soiled themselves to let them go gives a bigger reason to hose ’em down with the firehose…
And while I agree that leaving them where they put themselves to rot is a tempting thought, we’re supposed to be civilized in the U.S. Can’t leave corpses and skeletons tied to the fences of the White House like some dark ages barbarian prince’s keep. The current occupant of that building ALREADY has pretentions of being royalty—we don’t need to add to his delusions.

I used to live in Canberra, so you can’t lay that one on the US: the Aboriginals have been occupying a spot across from the Old Parliament house for years and years…and I’m having a hard time picturing a bunch of nitwits pulling an OWS at the Gabba and getting away with it beyond the first Test of the season…
Go Brumbies!!
The annoying thing to me is the collusion between police and protester. The protesters doubtless arranged the “arrests” in advance, and will be released uncharged or with a slap on the wrist. A better test of the protesters’ conviction would have been to leave them attached to the fence overnight.
Some 2,000 of the anti-KXL morons are marching towards the white house now, to “engage in some good old-fashioned civil disobedience”. Livestream here (if you can stand to watch).
They are now at Lafayette Park where a rally is planned, after which they will cross the street towards “the house of whiteness” to be arrested.
It looks like the protesters lying down in the street are lying on sheets of plastic (which are made from petroleum).
Oh the humanity.
Meanwhile in the real world

I would like to give them all a hug for making me feel smart again.
What struck me was how much FUN they appear to be having. Look at that “Voldemort” picture. Are those the faces of people who actually believe what they are protesting? If the world is in fact doomed, and nobody is doing anything, would you really be having that much fun?
I see a fun group outing with overtones of a delusional sense of accomplishment.
Should have really taught them a lesson and left them there all night. NWS says it rained and the temperature went down.
Call me cynical, but I bet most of those guys are more interested in getting laid…
Would it be too much to ask, if you send your children to college or university, to at least do the rest of us the courtesy of explaining to them the fact that everything they own was affordable because it was mass produced. I am not jesting. Please point to each object they own, and discuss how electrical energy, capital, and raw materials from the earth were used in a process called “mass manufacturing.” These citizens who make necessities and conveniences also make a “profit.” If there was no mass manufacturing, these items would be beyond the purchasing power of most people on the planet. And shipping it anywhere inexpensively gets it to people who need and want it without a huge mark up. Oil comes in at every single step.
http://science.howstuffworks.com/plastic5.htm
Also, please explain to them that beef and dairy come from cows on farms, which is nice because otherwise every person who would like to eat dairy products would have to own a cow and they can generate 120 lbs of manure a day. That’d be good. And tell them to say hello to all of the radical marxist professors for you, because you are paying their tenured positions in academia and handing over your children’s immature, underdeveloped brains to them to damage, in between drinking parties.
Well said, Zeke.
I would also like to point out that, if cars had not been invented, the “solid pollution” that horses leave behind would make large cities intolerable…
Thanks Kpar. That reminds me of one more “thing.”
Since these wish to protest pipelines, may I recommend Russia?

Obviously, protesting pipelines in Russia does not pay as much. And there are no nice white school buses to give you a ride out of the cold after a few hours and all the protesters are needing to use the Lou.
A Frenchman, a Japanese and a Russian were trapped by a Klingon. He locked them in a cell and asked each to surprise him using three steel balls – the winner would be released, the others would be executed. In a week the Frenchman demonstrated a juggle with the balls. The Japanese had created a rock garden. However the Russian was declared winner: he broke one ball and lost another one.
Appropos of something, the little wee socialists… (:
“I have no doubt that someone or some small group in this cult will attempt to bust this pipeline wide open.”
Nothing will happen. The pipeline will be a good 5 ft. underground. And do you really think these loons are going to travel out to the Dakota/Nebraska back 40? Even if they do they’ll find a bunch of pipeliners, out in the middle of no where, who don’t have a lot of patience to be messed with. They would learn some lessons real quick if that ever happened.
Stupid is very much like being dead, it effects every one around you but you don’t know it.
Leave them there until Monday morning. It was in the teens over night in Washington DC. (Heck it was in the teens here in Mid NC)
