Some good news out of Britain, global warming alarmist and Senior Conservative MP Tim Yeo has lost his fight against being deselected by party activists.
The former environment minister demanded the secret ballot by Tory members in South Suffolk after the association’s committee voted not to re-adopt him as a candidate.
Mr Yeo promised his “unqualified support” to his successor.

In that position he pushed strongly for every alarmist position he could find, which nicely supported several of his ‘green’ directorships and consultancies – in particular a major manufacturer of water meters for the country…

I’m not sure what the right answer is for the Lords, it’s been having its authority – sometimes perhaps necessarily – nickeled and dimed away for a very long time.. Blair did vast harm to the place, turning it into basically a lifetime sinecure for political cronies of the Bryony stripe. One of Guido Fawkes’ cobloggers advocates turning it into something akin to the US Senate, to which us Colonials have to say ‘be careful what you wish for’.

No, two down – Anne McIntosh was also deselected last week thanks to some unspecified “clash of personalities”.. Not quite as high profile as Tim Yeo, but another committed Warmista c/w committee memberships to prove it.
Not that we’ll ever know, but wouldn’t it be delightful if that “clash of personalities” was along the lines of:
“The world is warming and we must take hard decisions”
“No it isn’t and the Rolls is costing a bit much to run lately”
“Yes it is and you’re a headless denier-chicken if you say otherwise”
Yeo was one of the few serious ecoloons in the UK’s Conservative Party, apart from David Cameron himself.
A thoroughly loathsome and arrogant individual who blatantly lined his pocket with green money and then pushed their agenda as much as possible in his privileged position.
He will be absolutely no loss, but I suspect we have not heard the last of this venal creature.

As a committed Socialist (who therefore has NO-ONE to vote for in the Uk any more 🙁 ) could I suggest reinstating the hereditary lot? They were, by and large, harmless old fools who we could make fun of. That alone made them worth their wages.
But they also provided a very useful inertial brake on the current fad of change for the sake of change. Stability has a lot to recommend itself when the world starts getting exciting.

This has more to do with his “Absentee Grandee” lack of commitment to his constituents than his self-serving, money-making eco loon activities. Still it’s one more “trougher” spouting nonsense out of the way. Especially so because of his influence as a chairman of a parliamentary committee concerned with climate matters.

After reading about the interchange between Yeo and Lindzen a few days ago, I thought Yeo was an American politician (guess I didn’t think that a Brit could be that pedantically stupid; but then, never underestimate a politician). Glad to see that he is gone no matter where he is from. He reminds me of US Rep. Henry Waxman, who is also leaving.

Yep, I heard the news on BBC radio, where, desperate to salvage some PR, they rushed him in for an interview. One of the things mentioned by Yeo was that he has been very committed to the Global Warming agenda as well as supporting gay marriage, and confessed that not everyone agreed with him. Of course, the Beeb wouldn’t pass an opportunity to smear the party grassroots, and suggested “in other words you’re not right wing enough!”
Great. Anyone sceptical of the left wing shibboleths is Right Wing – and there are connotations with that label.

For the benefit of our American cousins, this doesn’t mean that Tim Yeo is removed at this time. Unfortunately he will still retain his role as Chairman of the Energy and Climate Change Committee for a couple more years. He has been elected by the people of his constituency (South Suffolk) and who the people elect, no one can remove – until the next general election that is in 2015.
It means that the South Suffolk Conservative Party will not adopt him as their candidate. In practice however, if you do not have the support of one the major parties (and South Suffolk is Conservative) you have a cat-in-hell’s chance of being re-elected.
So good riddance, but we have to wait a bit longer for a voice of reason.

Indeed, if they were introduced it is we on the left who could reasonably do it because Yeo is right wing. But such left vs right arguments would distract from the important fact that this ‘green’ lobbyist is to be removed from Parliamentary influence.

EU “Law” is absolute power. Neither the UK, nor any other EU member state, can refuse to enact legislation stemming from the UNELECTED European Commission after it’s passed by the European Parliament (our largely ‘don’t de-rail the gravy train’ lapdogs). Yeo cashed in on this, in spades.
The EU has embraced a suicidal energy policy, dictated by the EC, based upon models that were funded by governments and the resultant UN IPCC reports edited by the paymasters, ensuring that ever-increasing “green” levies keep rolling in. Oh, and more funding for pro-CAGW “research” as well. Yeo cashed in on this, in spades. As have notorious “warmist” doomsday “experts” such as M Mann, P Jones, The Grauniad (Green adverts), BBC (Agenda 21) et al.
CAGW is the biggest political tax-raising socialist experiment scam in living memory – worse than Communism.
If I was religious I would pray that the 15/17yr flat-line global temperature trend now moves into the next Little Ice Age that appears to be on the cards, so that some energy policy sanity is restored. I’m not religious, so my faith is that ultimately the true scientific method will prevail. The past 15/17 yrs seem to be on my side.

The heredities could not be bought, threatened or controlled and they were there having been raised from birth into the role of revising legislation. Yeo was attacked from the left and the right for being corrupt and venal. He was acquitted but no-one understands how.
Most here only met TIm Yeo when he tried to confuse LIndzen with the Subtle difference between warm and warming.
He failed and was seen to be a fool.
But his constituents already knew he was a fool and the votes were already in.
Still a lot to go… watch that committee again. Lillee (right-wing) and Stringer (left-wing) looked like assets to Britain.

Despite popular stereotypes, a belief in social justice doesn’t inherently mean a desire for revolution. I may wish for a socialist utopia, but I’m realistic enough to know that it’s not something you can (or, indeed, should) impose on people by force. That’s why I get genuinely upset when I see discussions on AGW getting characterised as Left v Right. The real war will be won (or lost) in that middle ground of rational people willing to think for themselves and consider evidence regardless of what their ideology tells them to believe.
For my part, I may dislike vast corporations with economic power over millions, but even if “Big Oil is evil” (from that perspective) it doesn’t mean that the oil itself is. Demonising something that improves life for billions in order to satisfy some idealistic objection to the supplier is illogical to the point of madness.

He did not live in the constituency and was considered to be more concerned with his role as Chair of a House of Commons committee. Another senior Conservative the Chair of the “Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee” was recently deselected for similar reasons.

I am happy to see Waxman gone. I remember watching CSPAN where the debate was related to fiscal matters. Waxman was arguing that Obama saved GM from bankruptcy. And then someone let him know that GM went bankrupt under Obama. He never heard that happened, he said. Then someone asked him about the national debt and if he knew what it was (at the time 16Trillion). He did not know and could not even guess. He was a “good politician” and dumbass ignoramus. Good riddance.
I thought a parliamentary select committee was supposed to seek answers to complex issues, to try and draw out a level of understanding.
Yet watching that shameful episode it was more like Yeo vs Lindzen. This was a court room adversarial approach – just answer the question, [I don’t want any of your elaborations, it might destroy my case]. How they allowed this, or why nobody picked up on it is remarkable.
OMG, this is good news. I never thought I’d live to see this day. I thought Yeo would be one of those cranky old MPs who somehow manages to hang around for decades on end. This is fantastic.

This is the official reason but is short of the whole truth (and probably a little naive). The local members (85% of them anyway) booted him out because he didn’t represent them. Their reasons will have been many but they will have included those you mention above as well as;
• He (allegedly) used his position to promote his own best interests rather than theirs.
• They disagreed with his position on climate, EU etc. – take your pick
• He treated the local members and their association with distain.
In short, if you are going to wear the party badge, make sure you represent the local party members; or you won’t be wearing it next time.

We have another individual who it is reported to be a fine upstanding member of the British Royal family, who it is alleged to have said at a recent meeting ( as reported briefly by the BBC early evening news) that all thos who support the view that AGW is not happening, are nothing but a load of ‘headles chickens’ for daring to dispute the gospel of Saint Warmer!

I see a lot of Left v. Right/Labour v. Tory stuff here. Let us not forget that while Tim Yeo was towards the right, the disastrous green taxes were introduced by a labour government with the current labour leader in place in the DECC.
Both sides will use whatever excuse they can to promote a cause that allows them to raise revenue. The accounts don’t balance so they will raise taxes at any excuse and while they are being fed disaster stories by scientists they will lap them up. It is not in their interest to not listen. It is one issue where both sides are in agreement: it is definitely worse than we thought.
The current floods in Somerset have been attributed to global warming…no one in the government or media has pointed out that this conflicts with all the evidence and the beliefs of the met office. The media is reporting that THE WINTER OF 2013/14 IS THE WETTEST ON RECORD. The bit of that statistic that says “in parts of the country” has been lost somewhere. While the floods on ’53 and ’57 did not go on as long they were caused greater disruption and more importantly they were not on a flood plain.
Regarding Tim Yeo, it really is a case with “out with the old, in with the new”. With Tim Yeo, one can be forgiven for thinking his years in politics turned him into a pompous git.
What is the Chair (Yeo) doing participating in the questioning anyway ? Yeo is clearly using his position as Chair to have the final word, however ridiculous, by then immediately directing business to move on. Prof Lindzen isn’t letting him away with though. Is it only because Lindzen is so good humoured or perhaps because he’s not cowed by the awe of Parliament , by being a nonUK citizen , that he does persist in calling out Yeo’s nonsense ?
Shouldn’t the chair be neutral though ?

Yeo’s questioning of Dick & Donna is just one abstraction to the absurd after another.
What you don’t read (surprize!) in the BBC report is that a major consideration in the vote appears to have been the various interests of Yeo in green technology companies. One would think that for a chair of the “climate change” committee this might be considered a conflict of interest, but he clearly got away with it. Until his constituents pulled the plug.
