Dumbest climate activist statement, evar!

The chooming is strong with this one.

Once in awhile, something so over-the-top dumb comes along, that all you can do is point and laugh. This is one of those times. From my Twitter feed:

I think he meant “addiction” since as far as I know, we aren’t dumping coal into the oceans. Brad Johnson is the same activist fool that once said tornadoes were payback for voting the wrong way:

No wonder he got booted off climate Progress. He’s too “out there” even for Jolting Joe Romm! Now he runs “Forecast the Facts”.

Amazing, but not surprising. It’s not science, it’s a crusade – and I mean that in the blindest, most delusionary sense.

Bizzaro! Putting aside the moronic comment, that doesn’t even look like a SST map in any way shape or form. Where is the current NE Pacific warm anomaly? None of the anomalies match anything on the current SST map!
see actual sea surface temperture anomalies here:

OK But assuming doesn’t actually mean boiling point, where did that map come from? It can’t be Argo data. I clicked on it and it simply went to the image and not the twitter feed. No time to do that now. Anyone know the data source?

I doubt this is the dumbest ever, that takes some doing. But I am a bit more forgiving, I don’t think anyone really thinks the oceans are boiling. I think that anyone who says that is talking figuratively, the same way that a lot of people might say “I am going to kill you” but never actually kill anyone.

The underclasses have to bitch, and make a mark on their lives. It’s human nature to feel jealous of others who appear better off, but basically they are ‘pissing in the wind’. But unfortunately there are reasonable people who believe what these scare mongers say. Like Flim Flam Flannery. Why would he give out wrong information about sea rising when he owns a home on the Hawkesbury River you can only gain easy access by boat? Fair dinkum. We were thinking of buying the house years ago, but the access was a challenge or you had to travel miles on a bush track to get to it. OK if you didn’t have to go to work each day or had school kids. (Well before the internet by the way or emails). Or a holiday home etc. As soon as Al Gore started yelling I knew by my studies at Uni, that this was wrong, and we were more likely to head towards another cool period or mini ice age. I nearly died when he got the nobel prize and then academy award. And we are overdue for another full glacial period, that will kill people off unless they move to the Southern Hemisphere. Will not happen in our life time, unless the Arctic circle stretches further south and the Gulf Stream is diverted. I really think more education of the masses, is not what some governments want! Restricting information is a world wide government ploy. At least the Australian government is taking a stand, and gud luck to them.

What is “polluting the climate”, anyway? Definition, please. How would you know that the climate was polluted? Would it smell bad? Would it get moldy??? Someone care to shed some light on this alarming term? No? Then how can they be “deliberately ignoring warnings from the ‘scientists'”? (cue footage of a phalanx of scientists, with pocket protectors and horn-rimmed glasses, urging the big GovGuys to ‘act’).

bushbunny
January 13, 2014 7:11 pm

The expression is out of context, pollution is real though. Note the deadly smogs of London in the 50s that heralded the smoke free zones (Coal fires and industrial ) part due to the closeness to the Thames and humidity. They stopped it and within 10 years the SMOGS were gone. The Thames was cleaner etc., unfortunately cities are the culprits and create their own UHI and air pollution. But outside this is not evident, but fertilizers leaching into water ways can increase the blue green algae, especially when the water flow is low due to drought. But you are right, you can not pollute ‘the climate’ just the air and ground near human habitation, including water resources.

Stephen Hawking, shame on you. As an Astrophyicist, Venus is far closer to the sun than Earth.

January 13, 2014 7:20 pm

Oh no! Boiling oceans!
Well our oceans could almost boil if they were not being cooled by a radiatively cooled atmosphere.
How hot? Maybe 80C
But climate pseudo scientists claim that they would freeze without an atmosphere with radiative gases! Can we check that via empirical experiment? Yes –
http://i42.tinypic.com/315nbdl.jpg
What about empirical observation?
The “Snow Line” in the solar system is 3 AU.
The oceans won’t freeze without DWLWIR.
And that is the radiative GHE disproved right there.
The atmosphere cools our oceans and radiative gases cool our atmosphere.
The only thing boiling here is Brad Johnson’s brain.

Not noted for articulation, I see.
The thing that drew my eye is the blue around the tip of South America that is nearest the Antarctic ‘arm’. That is the only cooling place in the world? Maybe?
Interesting, seeing as Steig said that arm was the hottest place in the region.
The problem with having so many people generate their own fluffy lies is it becomes impossible to keep the story line straight.
Personally I don’t see the point of calling much attention to these things unless, like the above, it is as good as SNL on a bad night. It would be funnier if they stop taking so much money from people, though.

Every day I read of someone saying something stupid on Twitter. Athletics, Hollywood, politicians, and just regular folks seem to think that they can say anything they want on twitter which is often promptly followed by an apology. The bad part is that I have to hear about it, the good part is they can not deny saying it.

John says: “They are all morons, starting with Mr. Gore – moron supreme.”
(1) Ad hominem.
(2) An assertion without supporting evidence
(3) No peer review.
There are several contrary possibilities, none of which are particularly more gracious than ‘moron.’ Note that these are not mutually exclusive.
(1) insanity
(2) malevolence
(3) venality
(4) noble cause corruption / bias
(5) Messiah complex
(6) emotional disturbance without psychosis
(7) ignorance of scientific principles
(8) ignorance of logic
(9) wilful ignorance of fact

Sense or reality is not important to the cause, as long as it promotes fear, dread, that suits them. Sometimes the experts cannot see the wood for the trees, argue the fine points, the scientiffic facts and ignore the big picture.
The people though, sometimes see through the scams and the purpose behind them.
Listen to “people” discussing the scam/doom.

Let’s see….. 2013 tornado incidence actually turned out to be below the 25th percentile and long-term F3+ tornado incidence has been falling….
Yep, that ol’ CO2 “pollution” is wreaking havoc on extreme weather….
Wait a minute….. Didn’t the IPCC say in AR5 there is a “low confidence” correlation between CO2 “pollution” and extreme weather???
Never mind. I’m sure IPCC’s statement must have been a typo…. I’m sure the IPCC meant “high confidence”… Surely if there is a “low confidence” correlation, the leftist MSM and the President of the US couldn’t honestly say, “all extreme weather events are effected by CAGW”….
The IPCC obviously made a mistake with this silly “low confidence” statement, because if there isn’t a correlation, then the CAGW hypothesis is wrong and we can stop wasting money on an hypothesis that’s been disconfirmed by empirical evidence….
Sarc/off
Actually, it’s interesting to note that the fastest wind speeds in the solar system are on Neptune, one of the coldest planets, with wind speeds approaching 1,400 mph; almost Mach 2…. Oh, my…
Dr. Lindzen’s research leads him to believe global COOLING would lead to larger latitudinal temperature differentials, which increase wind sheer, thereby increasing severe weather incidence…
Accordingly, since moderate global warming tends to lead to less severe weather, if one were a leftists, one would logically support the government forcing everyone to buy a Hummer….
Oh my, I believe this is called a conundrum…

It is easy to laugh at these people, but remember that they are only the tip of the iceberg. For every loony on the forums, there are many who share the same ideas. If just a few of these are willing to go further than words, we are in for a dangerous future. We have seen a wave of political terrorism, followed by the current wave of religious terrorism. The next wave of terrorism will be green terror. Political and religious terror is usually directed towards specific persons or small groups, but the enemy of the green terrorism is humanity itself. I fear what the future brings, if the threat from these people is not taken seriously.

@ Konrad
“Well our oceans could almost boil if they were not being cooled by a radiatively cooled atmosphere. How hot? Maybe 80C”
My first thought when I read that “80C” was, “yeah, sure — that seems kind of high…” My second thought was wait a minute, didn’t Tesla do some experiments along that line? Here is my unsubstantiated memory of something I read long ago, so anyone who knows better feel free to correct me.
When Tesla was living in Colorado Springs in the late 1890s he did some experiments with solar energy, in particular he developed a sort of solar collector that used open shallow vats of water. The bottom of the vats were black to absorb the sunlight, but water temperatures were very much limited by convection of the water and surface cooling. His solution (no pun intended) was to sprinkle rock salt into the vat to make a very dense brine at the bottom with a relatively fresh water layer above it. The brine was so dense that even when heated it would not convect to the surface and created a temperature inversion holding the heat at the bottom of the pool. He is reported to have claimed a bottom temperature of near boiling. Since boiling temperature in Colorado Springs is about 93C, that sounds about right. If I were trying a similar experiment I think I would add a spoon of mineral oil to coat the water surface.
Of course an ocean subject to day/night cycles differs in some rather major ways from a shallow pool during daytime. Still, you may be right about that 80C.

I would just love to dump this twit into the middle of the English Channel so that he can observe first hand just “boiling”the water is at this time of year! Sure I’ll toss him a life jacket but I’d give 30 minutes tops! His functions would start to shut down within 20 minutes, then he’d probably dead after 30 minutes!

One small point: sheer vs. shear. I sometimes wear “sheer” tops. I think, though, when it comes to air movement, a velocity gradient is more commonly known as “shear”.
