I doubt this is the dumbest ever, that takes some doing. But I am a bit more forgiving, I don’t think anyone really thinks the oceans are boiling. I think that anyone who says that is talking figuratively, the same way that a lot of people might say “I am going to kill you” but never actually kill anyone.
The underclasses have to bitch, and make a mark on their lives. It’s human nature to feel jealous of others who appear better off, but basically they are ‘pissing in the wind’. But unfortunately there are reasonable people who believe what these scare mongers say. Like Flim Flam Flannery. Why would he give out wrong information about sea rising when he owns a home on the Hawkesbury River you can only gain easy access by boat? Fair dinkum. We were thinking of buying the house years ago, but the access was a challenge or you had to travel miles on a bush track to get to it. OK if you didn’t have to go to work each day or had school kids. (Well before the internet by the way or emails). Or a holiday home etc. As soon as Al Gore started yelling I knew by my studies at Uni, that this was wrong, and we were more likely to head towards another cool period or mini ice age. I nearly died when he got the nobel prize and then academy award. And we are overdue for another full glacial period, that will kill people off unless they move to the Southern Hemisphere. Will not happen in our life time, unless the Arctic circle stretches further south and the Gulf Stream is diverted. I really think more education of the masses, is not what some governments want! Restricting information is a world wide government ploy. At least the Australian government is taking a stand, and gud luck to them.

Note the deadly smogs of London in the 50s that heralded the smoke free zones (Coal fires and industrial ) part due to the closeness to the Thames and humidity. They stopped it and within 10 years the SMOGS were gone. The Thames was cleaner etc., unfortunately cities are the culprits and create their own UHI and air pollution. But outside this is not evident, but fertilizers leaching into water ways can increase the blue green algae, especially when the water flow is low due to drought. But you are right, you can not pollute ‘the climate’ just the air and ground near human habitation, including water resources.

The thing that drew my eye is the blue around the tip of South America that is nearest the Antarctic ‘arm’. That is the only cooling place in the world? Maybe?
Interesting, seeing as Steig said that arm was the hottest place in the region.
The problem with having so many people generate their own fluffy lies is it becomes impossible to keep the story line straight.

This isn’t the first time that some bizarre crazy idea comes from Forecast the Facts and alarm bells start going off. I hope some of our “protectors” are paying attention to these people, but the current justice dept. doesn’t have a good track record.

My first thought when I read that “80C” was, “yeah, sure — that seems kind of high…” My second thought was wait a minute, didn’t Tesla do some experiments along that line? Here is my unsubstantiated memory of something I read long ago, so anyone who knows better feel free to correct me.
When Tesla was living in Colorado Springs in the late 1890s he did some experiments with solar energy, in particular he developed a sort of solar collector that used open shallow vats of water. The bottom of the vats were black to absorb the sunlight, but water temperatures were very much limited by convection of the water and surface cooling. His solution (no pun intended) was to sprinkle rock salt into the vat to make a very dense brine at the bottom with a relatively fresh water layer above it. The brine was so dense that even when heated it would not convect to the surface and created a temperature inversion holding the heat at the bottom of the pool. He is reported to have claimed a bottom temperature of near boiling. Since boiling temperature in Colorado Springs is about 93C, that sounds about right. If I were trying a similar experiment I think I would add a spoon of mineral oil to coat the water surface.
Of course an ocean subject to day/night cycles differs in some rather major ways from a shallow pool during daytime. Still, you may be right about that 80C.
I would just love to dump this twit into the middle of the English Channel so that he can observe first hand just “boiling”the water is at this time of year! Sure I’ll toss him a life jacket but I’d give 30 minutes tops! His functions would start to shut down within 20 minutes, then he’d probably dead after 30 minutes!

One small point: sheer vs. shear. I sometimes wear “sheer” tops. I think, though, when it comes to air movement, a velocity gradient is more commonly known as “shear”.
