WG1 co-chair Thomas Stocker abandons IPCC principles

Thomas Stocker, the co-chair of IPCC WG1, has been discussed previously on this blog.

On 26th November he gave a talk at Imperial College on the messages from the AR5 WG1 report. The headline of the write-up is

“Act now to limit climate change says climate expert at Grantham Annual Lecture”

and it ends with:

“Professor Stocker finished his talk with the message that the international community has to act now and that any further delay in reducing emissions could close the door on limiting global mean warming, and consequent impacts, permanently”

Perhaps he needs to be reminded of the principles of the IPCC:

“Because of its scientific and intergovernmental nature, the IPCC embodies a unique opportunity to provide rigorous and balanced scientific information to decision makers. By endorsing the IPCC reports, governments acknowledge the authority of their scientific content. The work of the organization is therefore policy-relevant and yet policy-neutral, never policy-prescriptive.”

Yet more proof that neither ethics nor personal integrity are among the traits selected for by the #IPCC climate propaganda organization.

And there my friend you show great insight. It is this apparent reversal in the climate that is causing the great green panic. Howls of “WE MUST ACT NOW!” grow louder while global surface temps fail to warm, Arctic extent up on last summer (bit chilly too), Antarctica shying around record extent, the return of freezing winters and so on. This is not exactly what they told us a while back.

Professor Stocker did not abandon the real, or hidden, IPCC agenda, or principles.

December 3, 2013 10:37 am

Stocker will be involved in the following two panel discussions next week in San Francisco at the AGU Annual Fall Meeting.
One panel session on ‘Updated estimates of climate to emissions and their policy implications’
Another panel session is ‘IPCC Climate Change 2013: Assessment of the Future – Future of the Assessment’
He will also be involved in several other panel discussions.
[note: to see who is talking about what at the AGU Fall Meeting next week => the science program can be viewed by the public at the AGU website]

More accurate if the headline was changed to: “Thomas Stocker is an hysterical, attention seeking goober”.
They’re like little wind up toys that can only play a single, mechanical song – and they play it whenever their key gets cranked.

Why would that be a surprise? he already abandoned scientific principals.

Stocker is not a favorite with the skeptic crowd and with good reason, he is is a kind of warmist runningback. The quoted statements are true to his character, he could have said this 5 years ago and he will say the same 5 years from now, no matter what the facts will be.
He is where he wants to be and does what he wants to do, don’t expect a skeptic interpretation of the IPCCs principles to hold him back.
Since he comes on so strong he is a little like Mann, hurting the case to all with a any doubt or a sence of what is fair.

I kinda like this little quote from notrickszone

WELTWOCHE: IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri recently admitted that there has not been any global warming for 17 years.
STOCKER: I can’t tell other colleagues what to say.
WELTWOCHE: He’s your boss.

One should implore Dr. Stocker to come up with a definition for ‘climate’, and then specifically define how ’emissions’ affect it. Sounds to me like both terms have become meaningless, so how the hell can one make any claims regarding them?

the principles of the IPCC: are to keep the IPCC at what ever cost
in that Stocker is following the principles , the mistakes is to think they in anyway relate to morality, integrity or honesty.

Wait a minute…!!! The IPCC states that governments acknowledge the “AUTHORITY” of their scientific content when they endorse them? Not validity, not veracity, not accuracy, not truthfulness, or any of the like, but “AUTHORITY???”
Since when did the skepticism inherent in the scientific method transmorgify to “AUTHORITY? This shift implies an absoluteness to the data, opinions and report that excludes and prohibits any criticism, any contrary opinion or data. It is as far from true science as I can imagine.
No wonder the warmists won’t let go of their position! George Orwell would be horrified.

Perhaps Stocker is setting himself up as the fall guy to be sued by all and sundry and garner more time while millions are spent in the delay and frustration of the civil action. Some others would like that, but falling temperatures might just mean he is it, the falling figurehead – after all Rajendra Pachauri can always hide behind “I’m just a simple railway guy its the scientists that told me so”! as they jump ship…

=============================
Exactly. For witch doctors like Stocker, words mean whatever they want them to mean — just like Humpty Dumpty’s words. That way, their feet can never be held to the fire of the Scientific Method.
This is why we keep demanding measurable evidence of humans’ effect on global temperature. Witch doctors like Stocker have a problem providing any such measurements, because there are none.
If it were not for their vague assertions, people like Stocker wouldn’t have much to say.

Enjoyed your comment.
There are others traveling across the big pond to next week’s AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco.
One or two others who are coming across to big pond to next week’s SF AGU meeting were very prominent figures in Climategate and its aftermath. Again, the science program listing is accessible to the public at the AGU Fall Meeting website.

Warsaw/COP19 might be over, but Australia is rampant with CAGW propaganda:
***Premier? then how come the Australian MSM – which churns out more CAGW scare stories daily than the rest of the world’s media combined – has barely mentioned it? Australian public are obviously not “Stakeholders”. Christiana Figueres (video apparance), Yvo de Boer (now KPMG), Bloomberg media in attendance:
Carbon Expo – Melbourne Australia 2-4 Dec 2013
Australasia’s ***premier carbon trade fair & conference

endless list, includes Shell, Conoco Phillips, GE, Big Banks, plust their “environmentalist” fellow-travellers:

http://www.carbonexpo.com.au/eConnect/carbon-expo-speakers.php
CAGW MSM gatekeepers, having long demonised Lomborg, must call him “controversial”, but use him anyway to score another point against the new Australian Govt:
3 Dec: ABC: Controversial commentator criticises Coalition’s climate course
A controversial climate change commentator says it’s a waste of money to focus on short term emission reductions.
Bjorn Lomborg says the money would be better spent researching ways to make big cuts to carbon pollution…
(CLIMATE SCIENTISTS?)ASHLEY HALL, ABC: Many of those gathered (at Carbon Expo) were climate scientists, economists and traders – traditionally supporters of the cap and trade emissions trading scheme model that the Coalition wants to ditch…
Before Mr Hunt took to the stage, Melbourne University’s climate scientist David Karoly outlined the nature of the carbon emission reduction challenge.
DAVID KAROLY: We are now at concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of greater than 390 parts per million, averaged over a year, and those are higher than at any time over the last 800,000 years…
The controversial Danish academic and author of ‘The Skeptical Environmentalist’, Bjorn Lomborg, argues 21 years of international action on climate change has delivered little more than broken promises.
He spoke today at the National Press Club in Canberra…
ASHLEY HALL: Professor Lomborg says spending money on research and development would be a much better way to tackle carbon emissions
BJORN LOMBORG: What we need to stop doing is to buy another solar panel. It makes us feel good, but it doesn’t do very much good. What we should be doing is to buy a solar panel researcher – and that’s obviously putting it way to simply – but it’s about getting the next generation and the next generation so that eventually it’ll be cheap enough that we will want to put them in without subsidies…

UK Guardian now has a presence in Australia, & has this from Christiana Figueres, plus plenty of ill-informed, often obscene, comments from their mindless readers:
3 Dec: Guardian: Oliver Milman: Greg Hunt defends scrapping carbon pricing, saying Direct Action will work
Environment minister says getting rid of Labor’s ‘brutal’ system is consistent with other nations’ climate policies
Hunt’s speech was preceeded by a video address from Christiana Figueres, the United Nations’ climate chief, who, rather jarringly, spoke of the growing enthusiasm among other nations for carbon pricing.
“Pricing carbon, one of the best ways to achieve mitigation results, is being pursued by many countries in many different ways,” she said. “This year, markets have come online in California and China, with Beijing and Shanghai’s first carbon trading system starting just last week.”
Figueres said the International Energy Agency predicted that 33% of global emissions would be subject to carbon pricing by 2035.
“Markets are widely recognised by the IMF, World Bank and OECD as the most cost effective way to reduce emissions,” she said. “However, broad participation is key to cost effectiveness.”…

It does seem strange that someone that is trying to cut emissions does so by increasing their own emissions. Sort of like Gore telling women to have less children while he has 4.
Why is it those that preach against sin are often the biggest sinners?

He is absolutely correct. Further delay will close the door permanently on panicked actions to “reduce global warming” for two reasons: 1) They won’t be able to fool the public much longer and 2) Existing actions have all-but-bankrupted the United States and Europe. There simply won’t be the funding for this stuff.

The real object or agenda is for UN(EP) to have global governance in their hands. Combined with Agenda 21 and the getting rid of capitalism market and classic liberalism freedom and choice. They think this will change the world to the better. For whom?

The “immediate action” is a climate treaty that will give UN(EP) global governance and with Agenda 21 we all have a feeling what this will lead to?
To prevent hypothetical anthropogenic climate change we all have to accept certain anthropogenic created Marxism? What are the alternatives? What are the costs? Where is the proof?

Hooray. If all the IPCC pseudo-scientists reject IPCC values, we will enjoy an honest scientific climate in with the scientific method will prevail.

The assets of private citizens outweigh the public debt in US and EU by a factor of 2; so by expropriating their citizens, the US and EU can still shove a lot of dough the way of Stocker. See “bail-in”.

It’s been a while since we heard from another IPCC Working Group Co-Chair:
