You’d have to generously round up to call the sea level rise from 1890 “one foot” at about 20 centimeters (0.66 ft), but there’s no way to reconcile one foot from 1990 that’s @ more like 5 centimeters or 0.16 feet.
The article goes on to say ”the group is calling on the federal government to create an “Extreme Weather Relief and Protection Fund,” paid for in part by companies that “pollute carbon.”
OMG! So, let’s say YOU didn’t use electricity; then the electric company wouldn’t have to make electricity for YOU. It is for YOU (and the rest of us that want a modern standard of living) that the electric company makes electricity, not for sh!t$ and giggles.

Given the usual “press pounding” low-climate-sensitivity proponents receive, we could all point to inconsistencies between the high-climate-sensitivity proponents’ actions and their message. However, such an approach is flawed since it lends partial credence for their message (eg the Imam got drunk dilemma). By calling people for their hypocrisy you convey to them some sort of apparent authority.

@Anthony Watts – For WUWT fundraising purposes, the 2014 WUWT Calendar could be devoted to “public figure” Michael Mann, where each 2014 Calendar month would have a photo of him in a different exotic location with a caption describing details like: date, event, distance from Penn State to that location, swag of CO2 emitted due to travel, guest-imated speaking fee received from either BigGreen or BigOilWashedGreen (e.g. BP Oil). IANAL so I don’t know if such good natured making fun a “public figure” would constitute stalking, harassment, ridicule, etc. Better still if all those photos are from “public events” before the alleged “libel” incidents of Mann occurred. Perhaps send complimentary copies to the various legal teams involved with the court cases involving the alleged “libel” of Mann.

Can someone explain to me what that scientific contraption is that’s hanging down from, around Rahmstorf’s neck? It looks like a camera to me but, no, it can’t be. Maybe it’s a mini, portable, ancient pine tree bore hole driller to get tree ring samples from the nonexistent ancient pine trees of Iceland. I mean, these world class, intrepid, world saving saviors would never possibly think of recreating (got that NPS?) while they’re on a taxpayer funded climate junk…er, I meant junket. So that couldn’t be a camera to take pretty pictures of dramatic picturesque Iceland could it? I’m certain they realize there’s a government shutdown and that there’s no recreating allowed.

When I fly, my carbon footprint is zilch – 2 weeks ago, I was on a plane to Italy. Now, that plane would fly to Italy back and forth 3 times a day anyway. So really, not flying wouldn’t make a difference 😉
Seriously though: While I am not sure about the truth of this claim, it has been said that, say, flying from Germany to Spain on a regular flight is more economical than driving by car.

Yes, flying anywhere will result in some more CO2. But so does EVERYTHING. Even Mann – or Watts – scratching his a** can be shown to result in a little more CO2. Now what. Are they supposed to kill themselves? We live in a world where there are planes, and asking anybody to not use one but walk across the country instead is retarded. And I mean that literally. Think about it. Are there no more substantial things to say about Mann, CO2 and climate change as a whole? How can you be so obsessed with this bunkum?

Mann flying for work, talks, (and even hols) etc is perfectly fine and every sane person should understand that. On the other hand, there are true excesses that never get picked on, e.g. Al Gore having a 30.000 dollar energy bill, “150 cars” and a heated pool, etc. While the world keeps spinning just fine it you and I keep boarding the occasional flight, it is clear that not everybody can afford the life-style of Gore, and I don’t even mean that financially. And I am not a commie, who wants to take Mr Gore’s toys away – rock your socks off, dude. It’s only, unlike Mann, Mr Gore is truely not in a position to preach in so many ways. I can see the difference, too bad you can’t.
Has anybody contacted Mann to ask whether he off-sets his footprint, e.g. by clicking the appropriate box when booking a flight, or planting a tree, or not farting for a day? No? Because you should before writing an article like this.

on my post at 1.10am I could have pointed to the irony of Mann being hosted by a nation that only exists because of the medieval warm period and just survived the little ice age, unlike their kin in Greenland. The weakened people were nearly exterminated, 3 times by disease and once by volcano. They boast of the largest geo-thermal establishment on earth, the cost of which may be dire if Loki should awake. This might account for the Icelandic characteristics of great fortitude and pessimism. It seems that greens are in evidence there though why any would want to stop global warming escapes me. Just a note: the name is Thingvellir, but in Icelandic the old letters “thorn,” which looks like a small B (b) also with a downward stem, or a P (or p) also with an upward stem, and “edh,” which looks like a curly small D (d) with a crossbar across the stem (like the IPA symbol for voiced “th” in English, which is derived from it), are still in use (they were once used in English but began to be superseded about the time of Chaucer, by “th”). So what you are seeing is really “th,” not “b.”

If people stopped flying the airlines would have to cancel the flights. That would in theory result in less anthropogenic CO2 emmissions if you’re into that sort of thing.
Your ire is directed at exactly the wrong people. None of the commentors here are advocating that people not fly. I for one am a big advocate of commercial aviation. However, Mann, Noorgard, et al DO advocate limiting flying among other things at least for the little people.

This is so ironic: Carl Sagan was the first to see his climate predictions massively fail when in his debate with Fred Singer on Nightline on the eve of the first Gulf War he predicted that if Saddam set the oil wells on fire, there would be something akin to a nuclear winter, because the soot would be “self-lofting” and make it into the stratosphere.
I’ll never forget Sagan’s response to when Singer asserted that the soot would not rise more than a few thousand feet and precipitate out of the atmosphere: “But we have models that show that a nuclear autumn would be the result.” (Singer responded something like: “Our models show otherwise.”)
BTW, Saddam did set Kuwait’s wells on fire, and the smoke did precipitate out just like Fred Singer said. And the TTAPS global winter models faded into obscurity. You’d think that Mann would let his hockey stick take the same route…
I’d like to see him go into a “Mannic” depression after his chicanery is outed beyond all doubt.
