The Rolling Stone is exactly what you state it to be, a biased, erroneous rag that cannot tell the difference between steam and CO2. What else could anyone expect from a hyped up rag that foisted that last front page. onto the public They even bragged about it’s attention grabbing ability, like it would actually grant them some credibility. Anthony, I am not sure that cooling towers are not contributing to global warming if the makeup water to the towers is from no or slow to recharge aquifers. This is especially true for recirculating mechanical draft evaporative cooling towers where the effluent is water vapor and aerosols. The heat removed from the process streams is transferred to the atmosphere in the form of latent heat in the effluent from the cooling tower.
Since the water from no or slow to recharge aquifers is not in equilibrium with the atmosphere the heat is added for one cycle. Since the industries using cooling towers operate 24/7, the heat is therefore added to the atmosphere continuously. The amount of produced ground water from no or slow to recharge aquifers amounts to about 1000 cubic km3 per year including cooling towers and irrigation for food and fodder.
It most certainly is not carbon dioxide emitting from mechanical draft cooling towers but I do believe that it does add heat to the atmosphere.

The irony here though is that it is going to be stillborn !!

Goodell changed his text on the image. The image shows water vapour. I’m sure Goodell knows that water vapour is the main greenhouse gas. Oh the irony.

I think I might have been one of the first to point out in comments on that article that it was water vapor, not CO2, coming from those cooling towers. Quite a few others made the same observation and commented on it. Most of the comments seemed to come from skeptics, or so it seemed. However there was one die-hard who kept saying cooling towers emit CO2 along with water vapor because it’s a coal based power plant. I’m still waiting for an explanation on that.

I always wondered what’s wrong with non-objective people. You see the type even in childhood, jealously guarding their “truths”. Even their things. They are typically non-sharing types. What drives these people? Fear? Greed? Habit?
I tend to think it is pure personal advantage. Some people will always manouvre themselves into a position to maximize personal gain. Truth, honour, science, be damned. Often you see the same type of people sucking up to whoever has power at any time.
I think it is a genetic trait, as it doesn’t seem to change as the individual grows up and matures.

Tsarnaev was never found guilty of being a terrorist. The FBI considered him a suspect and the media went crazy over it. The media story then goes he was shot dead in the face.

Jeff Goodell just wrote a book on geoengineering the climate. I haven’t read the book but the first couple of paragraphs seem to start in the direction of an interesting and not wholly unreasonable perspective.
Mr. Goodell of all people should appreciate that geoengineering can’t work until the models work. But it’s become obvious to any honest reporter that the models are unsatisfactory. He should be one of the first to insist that the models will need to be seriously worked on before we can seriously start discussing geoengineering a climate. Imagine the repercussions of getting the engineering wrong and precipitating a crop failure. Maybe Anthony should invite Goodell to write something provocative for the WUWT blog on geoengineering. Presumably, centuries hence, another ice age could materialize. If so, it may be humankind’s destiny to engineer the climate.

Ummm I know I am being nitpicky but I don’t see any chimneys, just water cooling towers. Are you sure this is actually a coal fired power station? The conveyors suggest yes, but there are usually tall chimneys interspersed with the water cooling towers – any idea where this is?

I think the lesson, Anthony, is that journalists for these kinds of publications (NYT, Rolling Stone, anything on the hard left) are only going to look for ways to quote you out of context. You can still talk to them, but you’ll have to use kid gloves. It’s clear this reporter never had any intent of treating you fairly.
Rolling Stone is a wretched excused for a publication. I canceled my subscription awhile back in large part due to their flagrant climate alarmism.

This publication has called to Yoko Ono a musician on several occasions, good bye credibility!

Don’t regret doing the right thing, Anthony. You made an effort to tell the truth. You can’t control what the media outlets do with it. That most media isn’t interested in the facts, only their narrative, is just the way thing currently are. A sad state of affairs, to be sure, but that should never discourage you from speaking to them. Eventually the truth wins out.
