(Both are measurements for the CONUS)
It is only one year, and maybe the trend line would give a different story, but this would tend to back up Anthony’s work.

As usual, the science isn’t enough on its own. Since climategate, there hasn’t been any further research of note on the cast-in-stone hypothesis, its rather all a matter of “communications” now. For example, if you go to their workshop schedule (which has the Orwellian name “scioClimate Command Central”) there’s a session called “How Can The Arts and Entertainment Contribute”, which discusses things like what to do in “venues and modes that generally reject … didacticism”.

The whole thing seems to be organized around the laughable claim that the problem is not crappy science, and it’s not that Michael Mann and others have repeatedly lied to us, and then lied again to cover it up when they were caught. They say the problem is also not the dozens of failed alarmist predictions of doom, or the inability of the climate models to predict, well, anything. And they claim that the problem is not that scientists can’t explain either the Medieval Warm Period or the Little Ice Age and yet they want us to believe they can predict the climate a hundred years from now.
The problem, they earnestly are assuring us, is nothing but poor communication. And I guess it’s true, communication is undoubtedly very poor since the public quit buying their BS … so they are focusing on things like the use of games to spread their misinformation:

Remember recently when the UK met office, after a dozen years of spectacularly failed weather forecasts (because of their wrong scientific beliefs) convened a group of commiserators, not to examine where they had gone wrong. No, it was to attempt to understand the “disappointing UK weather”!! Read, of course, disappointing forecasts.

Instead of “relatively more”, maybe better would be “in large part”, “Large part” could be less than 50%. The “more” becomes an unnecessary point of contention.
There is still not enough attention to
– the size of the adjustments,
– the pattern and suspected bias of adjustments,
– and the ethics of adjusting recorded data.
Even if you accept and agree on a size of an adjustments, it add error to the final signal, because the adjustment itself add uncertainty. The error bars of the final result and must increase from the addition of adjustment.
I have learned something from all of this. That would be fine, except for thinking I may have just been didacticated, maybe against my will.

The nickname for the award would be “the Hotty.” Jim Hansen should be an ideal candidate for this year of 2013 – retiring from NASA to dedicate his life to fighting AGW.

Regarding the “Climate denier award”, I would note that only the credentialed climate scientists are allowed to embrace full-blown unicorn and rainbow theology. The average CAGW supporter is self-restricted to the “My Little Pony” stage.

Anthony Watts is an outlier? Some folks believe GISS and NOAA are the real outliers. How else can anyone lower the temperature readings in the early years and raise the temperature readings in the latter years?
I didn’t get past college statistics 101 but I can’t think of a random situation that would give such results. Perhaps some skilled statisticians can give us a better feel for data like temperature readings.
Also can the scientific adjustments which are peer reviewed be made public so we can all understand how the adjustment are made? What feedbacks, etc,, if any are entered in the adjustments?
Unicorns was the worst thing they could come up with to give to supposed “enemies of the planet”? Really? Because I would have thought something more along the lines of, oh I don’t know, maybe a lump of coal drenched with oil. The 600 stations is bad news IMO. Each time the equipment is changed, a time series splice is created. Each time a splice is created, judgement weighs into how old and new should line up. After several flat years, I wonder if there is about to be a new step up?
Without those stations, the new series would presumably drop down. To preserve continuity, an upward offset to the new can be worked in. Then as the same stations are “fixed” and brought back in….
