Thanks Marc Rodrigues @mprodrig

Who’s Marc Rodrigues you ask? I’m not sure, but he sure does get ugly when I replied to “God” in a Tweet, pointing out what has been happening on the planet lately.

TweetoGodBizarre

Wow. What an angry, bizarre, uncalled for response.

My tweet link was to my essay yesterday: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/08/10/what-the-year-of-living-dangerously-at-nearly-400-ppm-of-co2-in-earths-atmosphere-looks-like/

Some people don’t handle reality outside of their belief system well I suppose.

It is true his first tweet might have been witty: deserving a possibly equally witty reply. Apparently it was not so intended. The only way to deal with this kind of thing is not to bother with it.

“Playing games with my children’s future”.
The ironic thing is, the reason I care so much about this issue is the warmist and their opportunity thieving ways are the true threat to my family’s future. If they had just stuck with sucking from the gov’t teat and not trying to force their economically and environmentally destructive ideals on everybody else, I’d more than likely be happily ignoring them. Given they aren’t, I am actively engaged in fighting for my children’s futures.

Here’s a clue….never EVER try and deal with someone who pulls the “my children” card with facts or logic. Emotionally based knee-jerk reactions are their forte, the only response you’ll get. Trying to argue or converse with them from a science/logic/fact base will only end up giving you a headache and increased blood pressure.

What you are seeing is the result of a very efficient misinformation campaign. The organizational left and global warming alarmists have created a series of talking points so that their low information minions can throw poo on social networking. Anyone that doesn’t support CAGW is automatically on the dole by some big corporation. Their template is the same one used to take down the tobacco industry. They hate the Koch brothers so much, they assume you are an employee of Phillip Morris or one of the other non-profits that debated it back in the 90’s.

Today I was blogging on another site and the CWAG faithful were gloating how the damage from “super storm sandy” made it one of the worst storms in history. They became indignant when I explained that the 80 year old’s knew it was coming and even warned them. The young who never had the experience of these normal and cyclical storms built in low lying areas. When the storm surge hit it created massive damage from a tropical depression as it was not at hurricane level when it came on shore. (and this made them mad too)
Somehow the stupidity (or is it ignorance/arrogance) of the masses is now proof of Global Warming.. I am still in awe of this revelation. I had no idea that Global Warming was caused by humans being dumb..
I dont get it.. (shakes head in disgust)

August 11, 2013 1:34 pm

So, Mr. Rodrigues, you’re willing to keep poor people in other parts of the world in jeopardy today in an attempt to potentially save our future generations some inconvenience?

Yes, he is. You see. the Left has moved beyond the notion that they are the best champions of the poor, downtrodden, “oppressed” folk, who have a nasty habit of speaking up from time to time to tell them how destructive their “help” actually is. Then they have to be discredited as “inauthentic”, “Uncle Tom”, or some other variant of “No True Scotsman”. Now they claim to speak for “the environment”, “wildlife”, “nature”, “the planet”, etc., which can’t disagree with them. There are no “Cousin Gaias” to silence.
Those poor people actually have the advantage of untold generations living a hand-to-mouth existence, which is where the rest of us are headed if we keep letting these morons run things (into the ground).

August 11, 2013 2:07 pm

‘Who’s Marc Rodrigues you ask?’
May I humbly opine that; after having last revealed himself to a racially singled out bunch of illiterate, pre-Middle Ages, nomadic inhabitants of a pretty small desert spot on the planet; god (or, ‘God’ if one assumes this all knowing entity exhibits personal vanity, and he might – Obama certainly does) has once again chosen fit to go through the trouble to reveal himself (yes, this cosmic entity is always referred to as a ‘he’ and therefore must possess a sex organ, though for the life of me I can’t figure out why) in the form of Marc Rodrigues. Yes, Marc Rodrigues must be the god (or, ‘God’ – sorry Marc) we have all sought. Or maybe not sought, but too bad, you’re stuck with it anyway. Anyway, I mean, Marc Rodrigues is responding to a tweet response to a tweet from none other than god himself: not the word of god; not the commandments of god; not the wrath of god. No, the tweet of god. That’s the giveaway. God (see, I capitalized it – although it begins the sentence); revealed as the gray haired, bearded old man he is; clearly must’ve felt a personal slight in having one of his warning tweets questioned by a lowly mortal and that’s the only plausible explanation for the wrath exhibited in Rodrigues’s tweet. Rodrigues is clearly the son of god. Now, despite the beard, god is an entity, unable to reproduce such as we can unless there’s a goddess up there and I haven’t heard of such a thing. Therefore Rodrigues, as a son, must be god himself as part of a divinity kind of thing (we’ll understand it later) sent down from the heavens so as to correct us in our ways and return us to a pre-industrial Garden of Eden where there is no war, no hunger, no famines, no plagues, no flying poisonous insects, no disease, no mosquitoes, no air conditioning, no home heat, no cell phones. Um, let’s skip the last three, those are only human creations and not worthy of god. Oh, and also to return us to a pre-industrial Garden of Eden for his children. Who are also gods.

Hmmmm…..I hadn’t realized that drinking Coke was like smoking cigarettes….thanks for the info, Marc!!
I wonder if he thinks all Coke will kill you like cigarettes, or just Diet Coke. Or maybe he means sugared Coke. I agree that if you drink several of THOSE a day you get fat, but you don’t have to, you can chose not to drink several hundred calories a day of sugar. Cigarettes were meant to be addictive, but I don’t see that with any kind of coke.
We await further explanation. In the meantime, wow, Mr. Rodriquez sure is angry about SOMETHING. I wonder how he drives? NOT getting in the car with him!

I quit posting at a Canadian political forum because the warmists there are so nasty and stupid (I have to teach them the difference between CO2 and C) even when the projected warming trend for the first decade didn’t come at all. They continue to insist it is warming rapidly but never use actual temperature data to back it up.
This is why I hope the cooling trend grows more evident to make them look bad and discredit their insane babblings.

I met an old SS guy once, he had serious mental problems – even years afterwards, he couldn’t reconcile what he saw as the Golden age of Germany with the ugly underbelly of the camps. He still wanted so much to believe, but he had irrefutable evidence, which even he couldn’t deny, that it was all a lie.
Its not just the lives of the direct victims which will be blighted by climate alarmism. Its easy to say, people like that deserve it for the evil they did, but catastrophism is a moral slippery slope – any crime, no matter how heinous, can be justified, if the crime is committed in an effort to save the lives of billions.
I suspect his mental problems were at least in part caused by him having to face what he did while serving a lie.
Or he could have simply been a delusional old guy – but I believe from what I saw that he was probably telling the truth.

As an atheist, I think you’re all mad ;-). But I have noticed that many of the most fanatical believers in climate doom had a Christian upbringing, but can no longer bring themselves to believe in God. Climate catastrophism – with its messages of sin, repentance, and a day of judgement if we do not make ourselves worthy – fits the God shaped hole in their lives.

It’s also superior since it cannot be so easily shown false. There’s always some untestable excuse for failed predictions, such as the missing heat hiding in the deep oceans, thermally immeasurable to the precision needed to show the lame excuse a shameless lie.

Note PS to Skeptics: I do not recommend to my fellow skeptics that we follow the behavior of Socrates who was incarcerated and sentenced to death by a jury in Athens for blasphemy (disbelief) toward the state recognized gods and thusly corruption of the young. Socrates drank the poison offered to him by the state executioners.
Nor do I recommend the behavior of Aristotle who fled Athens based on what happened to Socrates lest “they sin twice against philosophy”.
To all Skeptics I recommend instead the behavior of US Army General McAuliffe who received a German Army demand for surrender in late 1944 in Bastogne. General McAuliffe replied to the Germans with one word, “Nuts.” General McAuliffe eventually prevailed with the help of other parts of the US Army coming to his assistance.

Marc Rodrigues is in possession of The Truth, as can all his fellow dinner party attendees attest. You are simply beyond the pail, Mr. Watts.
Seriously, the ideological split in the Western world is so great, there will be a reckoning, as one side is grounded in reality, the other in ideology.

Henry Clark
August 11, 2013 7:19 pm

The reference to separate topics in the tweet is a classic example of ideological tribalism. As the excellent Sustainability of Human Progress website notes:
.
“Let’s try to get above the battles for a while and look at human ideologies from a Martian point of view.
.
American social thought is mainly polarized along one axis – the liberal – conservative axis.
.
Most people who pay attention to the issues belong to one or the other ideological tribe. Each tribe has its views on a whole spectrum of issues, although logically these issues are not strongly correlated.
.
Here are some of the issues.
.
abortion
gun control
nuclear power
national defense
affirmative action
communism – in Cuba and formerly Soviet communism
multi-culturalism
what to do about poverty
what to do about the environment
gay rights
global warming
relative importance of equality of opportunity and equality of outcome
punishment of harassing or offending others vs. free speech
.
People’s attitudes on these 10 issues tend to be strongly correlated, although logically there should be little connection between a person’s attitude to abortion and his attitude to multi-culturalism.
.
Here’s a nice example of a reaction to my Web page on nuclear energy that illustrates membership in one tribe with many causes. …”

.
http://www-formal.stanford.edu/jmc/progress/ideology.html
.
Although this tweet is more clearly an example of ideological tribalism than anything else, at other times I am reminded of the Star Wars quote:
fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate.” While I don’t know what it would be like to want others to believe a position I couldn’t defend in sustained argument or which depended on select true facts not being spread (such as no global warming in the past 15 years), I imagine it must lead to insecurity and hence fear, trying not to show weakness and finding comfort when surrounded by fellow tribe members but secretly having fear of the edifice of falsehoods eventually being found out by more people.

I’ve long suspected the internet is somehow connected to parallel alternate universes, as I find people and concepts there that vary from completely different from what I’ve experienced before and will ever expect to find out here in my reality, to those that are very similar but somehow distorted or twisted in strange frightening ways.
I’m just going to stay in mine for now, and hope Mr. Rodrigues stays in his. If my realism and intellect should come in contact with what Mr. Rodrigues has, the energy release from the cataclysmic annihilation event

August 11, 2013 8:25 pm

Not far above my post, Kadaka points out that Mark Rodriguez even goes full Sharpton… He outright screeches that he thinks everyone is “virulent” because Obama is black. Obviously, this is a form of projection, and says a lot about Mark and his thoughts on race. But just as importantly, it says a lot about the CAGW mindset regarding their belief system… And it’s actually rather incredible to believe that people can make their way in the world if they think this way… Consider:
If Mark Rodriguez has to go full Sharpton (similar to going Godwin), it is tantamount to an admission that his position / argument is not a logical one – it is simply an emotional one. (He knows he cannot win on logic, that’s why he uses the Sharpton defense).
And yet Mark Rodriguez, a person who is apparently capable of securing food, water, electricity, a mobile device, and all the other comforts in life, is apparently able to make his way through life driven by emotion, not by logic. (100 thousand years ago, the cro-magnons were defeated. Apparently they are making a comeback.)

It’s unfortunate that social discourse today has become so routinely coarse that people don’t bat an eye at rants like this worm’s. Even the level of obscene invective he resorts to (presumably because having no better response to facts that upset his applecart) doesn’t draw the attention to the defects in his “thinking” and his mind the way it should, for most people. I must conceded, however, that it provides a very accurate picture of the depth (or lack thereof) of the intellectuality behind AGW. Maybe he thinks the F word itself is “evidence” that AGW is true.
People like Rodrigues (whose name, from the spelling, is probably Portuguese, Catalan or possibly even French, rather than Spanish – too bad we can’t call him a llorona or a cabron!) cannot be reached by any process of reasoning or demonstrating facts. The only way to reach vermin like him is to get the word out to the uninformed masses, and then sic them on him. Sic the people he drives into deeper poverty with his policies on him, and let them get their pound of flesh out of him.

Chad Wozniak
August 11, 2013 9:52 pm

In re attacks on der Fuehrer because he’s black –
I’d be willing to bet that Rodrigues would have some pretty nasty things to say about people like Herman Cain or Dr. Ben Carson, who have committed the unforgivable sin (in the warnists’ and generally in the left’s eye)s of being black men who think for themselves.
Scratch a lefty deep enough and the bigotry always comes out in ’em. You’d be hard put to find a real, traditional right-winger that can spew more vitriol against African Americans than the left routinely does.

I’ve been retired for over ten years and have time to think about things. I notice that today people accept rules and regulations without demur which fifty years ago would have been considered “Flaming imposition!”. Even the desire to think is being eroded. “Information centres” of many varieties will advice how to resolve your problems. No sweat. This is why the ‘alarmists’ are so successful. My wife is forever asking “Why do we need to put extra insulation in our houses if it is getting warmer?” And I explain that winters will still be pretty cool and cloudy and there will be no energy to heat the house. Better to make them warm now while we still have the energy. If too many people start to die there may be repercussions.

Children’s future? What children? Has Mr. Rodrigues not joined the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement yet? Is it already too late for him due to his own irresponsibility? Shame on him.

“I’ve long suspected the internet is somehow connected to parallel alternate universes, as I find people and concepts there that vary from completely different from what I’ve experienced before and will ever expect to find out here in my reality, to those that are very similar but somehow distorted or twisted in strange frightening ways.”
That parallel reality you speak of is the one propagated by the media.
Be assured that they know what they are doing. And they’re very, very afraid that everyone finds out.

Well, gee whiz, Anthony! You and I both know that as “skeptics” we’re paid by Big Oil, which may also be Big Tobacco. I wish the Postal Service would get it’s ass in gear and start delivering those backlogged checks, though: the yet-to-decrease-due-to-the-“Affordable-Care-Act”-health-insurance premium is due,… and I sure could use a little cash for house maintenance, and children’s college tuition, too.

@Gail Combs –
The Evans article is compelling – and disturbing. Thanks for the link.
I’m not at all sure that we have averted the bureaucratic/kleptocratic takeover of our economy and society – there’s a long way to go to dispossess the alarmists and their neofascist allies in the media and the government. But as the article says, the internet and the public’s increasing recognition that AGW is a scam offers some hope.
I’ve long believed that government functionaries and anyone else feeding a the government trough – i.e., the regulatory class Evans refers to – (1) should not be allowed to vote, (2) should be under draconian controls over their behavior, with their every communication monitored and available to citizens, (3) be under penalty of perjury for any untruth or half-truth they utter, orally, electronically or in writing. There should be no such thing as “sovereign immunity,” no shields against prosecution for unconstitutional or otherwise illegal acts by functionaries, and functionaries should be personally fully financially liable for harm which it is demonstrable that they personally have caused. It should be possible to charge functionaries with fraud for taking money under false pretenses, including collecting tax monies and using them for other than the designated purpose. (as was done, for instance, with the funds raised by California’s Prop 30, where monies earmarked for higher education by the voters were used instead by Gov. Medfly-Receivership to add a redundant new layer of bureaucrats in the Medi-Cal system).
And as I’ve said before, the battle will not be entirely won until the regulatory class and its hangers-on are removed entirely from government, the science academies and journals, and the educational system, from preschool to graduate school..
If these things had been done before the AGW scare got so far out of control, it might have been stopped dead in its tracks. Now we’re in it for the loing haul. The alarmies will still be screaming “global warming” even when the next glaciation begins.

Depends upon your definition of plate tectonics. Ours are thought owing to the impact that created the moon, lofting a majority of the then-crust into orbit, so that we have thin oceanic & thicker continental crust, with seafloor spreading from volcanism. But Venus & Mars may have different forms of crustal plate movement.
Here was the consensus at the turn of the 21st century:

But now:

Mars may also have suffered a comparable impact:

Rodrigues is a clear example of a certain mindset that is prepared to believe any sort of evidence-free alarmist nonsense on virtually any topic based purely on the public profile of those shouting the loudest.
These are the people who took pitchforks to the Montgolfiers’ balloon.
These are the Jenny McCarthy Science crowd. Any evidence this guy’s ever been an anti-vaccine type? Don’t have time to research it myself but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Yeah, Cro-Magnon is too advanced for these people. I’d venture a philomycid (i.e., a slug – the Greek derivation of this name means “slime lover”) as a better moniker for them (sorry, philomycid, for thus insulting you).
The dilemma we still face is how to get past the praetorian guards of the media and impress upon der Fuehrer and his fellow kleptocrats that (1) AGW is crap and (2) we aren’t going to let you do it to us.

People’s attitudes on these 10 issues tend to be strongly correlated, although logically there should be little connection between a person’s attitude to abortion and his attitude to multi-culturalism.
————————————————————-
I can’t agree with you on this. There is a logical rationale to how people line up on these issues. It’s somewhat lazy to assign this to simple tribalism although that would factor in to a degree.
The left’s take on these issues is informed by mostly a secular humanist world view, which is relativist. The right believes more in absolute truth. Your examples concerning the relative positions of the left & right on abortion and multi-culturalism are easily explained in that context.
