Not really. The data is inconclusive, has been severely manipulated and is being used to achieve political ends. I am of course referring to man made carbon dioxide and its role but also the record is very corrupt and doesn’t lend itself to testable predictions in anything like real time.
So, as I said , not really. It isn’t science it is statistics and as Feynman said “if all you have is statistics you need a better experiment”. That works for me. Thanks for the entertainment though.

Global warming is our “Greatest Scientific Achievement”?
Cannot be. It is not scientific.
In fact, the whole endeavor of global warming “climate science” has proceded on the same path as this video … First, assume there is anthropogenic global warming.
“Global warming” may well turn out to be the most egregious example of religious/political scaremongering to effect control of the massses ever perpetrated. I suppose that is an achievement of sorts. Similar to the witch hunts, the Inquisition, etc. Not something to celebrate with giddy videos.

“Catastrophic man-made global warming” (which is what I think he means) is not a scientific discovery. It’s not even scientific.
“Global warming” itself is not a discovery. It’s an observation, made already in the late 19th century, during the first stage of recovery from the Little Ice Age. Global cooling was also observed regionally & locally in the 17th century & even earlier, without the phenomenon being recognized as necessarily worldwide in extent. That Earth had been much colder twelve & more millennia previously was also observed in the early 19th century.
The conclusion that climate changes is an observation that could also be considered a discovery, I guess. But there is no actual physical evidence to suggest that humans have had more than a negligible & local effect upon climate. Science can’t even be sure of the sign of any such trivial effect, ie whether the net result of our activities is to warm or cool the planet.

He makes a very powerful point that the measurement methods and instruments are inconsistent and have changed many times over the past 100 years. He then cheerfully dismisses this point by saying that “the scientists” tell him it doesn’t matter. What really matters, according to the video, are the computer models. Because all you need to do is put big data into a computer and it will fix it. (I’m thinking he’s a liberal arts major). He makes the basic claim of climate science very succinctly — “garbage in, consensus out”. Apparently, those of who believe that garbage in = garbage out (or, being generous, garbage in = uncertainty out) are simply flat earthers who need to be culled from the population. But he is very cheerful.
‘Global Warming’ wasn’t a discovery, rather the reverse.
A scientific discovery occurs when something previously unanticipated is found to be true. Plate tectonics is the example that comes to mind.
Global warming (prediction of) derives from century old knowledge about greenhouse gases. That this knowledge has singularly failed to produce any worthwhile future climate predictions, means the scientific discovery is that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere do NOT have the predicted effect derived from laboratory experiments more than 100 years ago.

CACCA is a repeatedly falsified hypothesis, unscientific from the git-go, not even in the same class with the steady state theory of the universe, immobile continents, spontaneous generation, inheritance of acquired traits or special creation of species, which at least made testable predictions. Since it’s never been proven to be even a minor problem we’ll assume global warming is real but it’s not catastrophic.
Let’s assume global warming is real and it’s a good thing.
Let’s assume man’s activity not only helped warm our chilly planet (LIA) but also gave us a longer growing season with more vegetation along with improved health, longevity, comfort and security.

I thought some good satire would be a nice way to end the day but from the comments (the video was slow to load), maybe I’ll look for something else. No, the greatest scientific achievement is the general theory of relativity. The theory of global warming is the greatest under-achievement of our time. Just compare, one man, eight man-years produces a theory that gives us unimaginable things like black holes, expanding universe, gravitational lensing and GPS. A century of tests through observation and laboratory tests. Every prediction holds. Compare this to climate science. Millions of man-years of research. What do we have. A theory that fails every non-trivial prediction. Shame on us.

What came first was the political agenda and THEN came “global warming” and the complete ignoring of the fact that the 20 years of warming was part of a natural cycle. We now have cooling and they hang onto global warming because this is a political agenda not a scientific discovery. We have wasted many billions of dollars and 100s of scientific careers studying something that might a scientific interest but not something we can control or do anything about.
The assumption that our great computing power has created useful climate models is totally false. These super-expensive models have failed miserably because there are many scores of major factors that we do not know how to model. One cannot feed all of that data into a supercomputer and expect it to generate a model—it has to be programmed—we do not know how to model even clouds, while also ignoring the Sun, the moon, and their cycles.
I watched 1 minute of it. That guy is just a pain!

Not to detract from the vital importance of fossil fuels, but IMO their discovery wasn’t scientific, which implies use of the scientific method. This definition of course lets CACCA out, too, with the critical disadvantage of aiming to return humanity to slavery rather than liberating it, as fossil fuels have done, so aptly noted by you.
Coal was found on or near the surface & used in antiquity, if not pre-history. Likewise surface deposits of petroleum & even outgassings of hydrocarbons.
Were it not arguably off-topic, I’d welcome a discussion here of what really is or are the greatest scientific discoveries, based upon utility to humanity or some other basis. Two have been proposed, unless I missed some.

My vote is for Maxwell’s Equations as being our greatest scientific discovery.
The big lie, misunderstanding, misinformation, whatever, starts around 3:35. He says:

How wrong he is!!! The models and simulations are not realistic and they create misleading impressions of the future climate due to the portrayed over-certainties.

So far, unless I’ve missed some, we have as greatest scientific discovery candidates: CACCA, germ theory, automatic dishwasher, general relativity, fossil fuels, Maxwell’s equations & impending ice age in the 1970s. Worthy candidates that spring to mind are the heliocentric theory, universal gravitation, atomic theory of matter, electromagnetic effect (Faraday, not already cited Maxwell), geologic time, extinction, evolution, thermodynamics, radioactivity, quantum theory, molecular basis of heredity, plate tectonics & the Big Bang, some of which are inter-related or follow-ons to more fundamental discoveries, listed or not. I’m sure readers can come up with more, all infinitely greater than the anti-scientific religion of CACCA.

“Global Warming” doesn’t even come close to the “greatest scientific discovery of all time”.
What it does reflect is a fertile imagination–something you’d expect featured on the Holodeck, a similated reality facility located on starships and starbased in the fictional Star Trek universe.
Which would be fine if it didn’t have a significant negative monetary and cultural impact on the inhabitants of the Earth.

Not usre if an invention qualifies as a discovery but I vote for the fractional horsepower electric motor. With out it no electric starters for cars —> very few women able to drive, no refrigeration—>regular visits from the iceman, no wash machines, no dryers, no electric fans for “cooling,” no air conditioning, can you imagine any of the early computers without AC and plenum floors, my laptop’s fan cranks up from time to time. I could go on but I think that you get the idea.

But if this is the “best” that advisors to the moaning and groaning “how can we communicate climate change” crowd can come up with, then, IMHO, the alarmists are in BIGGER credibility trouble than they were before!
At first I thought he was doing a (rather poor) imitation of Topher Field’s style … but this guy lacks Topher’s skillful timing and pacing (not to mention sincerity, imagination and articulation)!
The blurb on YouTube gives their game away with its concluding:

Your point about basic technology is well taken, although the first two great achievements of the Scientific Revolution (Copernicus’ heliocentric astronomical departure from Ptolemy & Vesalius’ anatomical departures from Galen), while within the Early Modern technological milieu, were based upon simple naked eye observation & a willingness to question received authority, plus in Copernicus’ case, mathematics. The same is true for Kepler (reliant on Tycho’s naked eye observations of Mars), but in Galileo’s case the advanced technology of lenses was essential.

Actually, I found this strangely informative…
If you watch with a detached curiosity, you notice he speaks too fast to engage the audience in a thoughtful way (i.e. word vomit), expresses his “scientific” ideas with a lot of hand waving (watch the monkey, nothing going on here…), and references things like “social cause”.
This behavior seems more or less universal to AGW proponents. They don’t like details, or engaging people in thought, and feel the science isn’t worthwhile unless it is used to change social behavior. I.e. they are political activists, not scientists. They create videos designed to entertain rather then inform.

Cannot be. It is not scientific.
In fact, the whole endeavor of global warming “climate science” has proceded on the same path as this video … First, assume there is anthropogenic global warming.
“Global warming” may well turn out to be the most egregious example of religious/political scaremongering to effect control of the massses ever perpetrated. I suppose that is an achievement of sorts. Similar to the witch hunts, the Inquisition, etc. Not something to celebrate with giddy videos.
“Catastrophic man-made global warming” (which is what I think he means) is not a scientific discovery. It’s not even scientific.
“Global warming” itself is not a discovery. It’s an observation, made already in the late 19th century, during the first stage of recovery from the Little Ice Age. Global cooling was also observed regionally & locally in the 17th century & even earlier, without the phenomenon being recognized as necessarily worldwide in extent. That Earth had been much colder twelve & more millennia previously was also observed in the early 19th century.
The conclusion that climate changes is an observation that could also be considered a discovery, I guess. But there is no actual physical evidence to suggest that humans have had more than a negligible & local effect upon climate. Science can’t even be sure of the sign of any such trivial effect, ie whether the net result of our activities is to warm or cool the planet.

He makes a very powerful point that the measurement methods and instruments are inconsistent and have changed many times over the past 100 years. He then cheerfully dismisses this point by saying that “the scientists” tell him it doesn’t matter. What really matters, according to the video, are the computer models. Because all you need to do is put big data into a computer and it will fix it. (I’m thinking he’s a liberal arts major). He makes the basic claim of climate science very succinctly — “garbage in, consensus out”. Apparently, those of who believe that garbage in = garbage out (or, being generous, garbage in = uncertainty out) are simply flat earthers who need to be culled from the population. But he is very cheerful.
‘Global Warming’ wasn’t a discovery, rather the reverse.
A scientific discovery occurs when something previously unanticipated is found to be true. Plate tectonics is the example that comes to mind.
Global warming (prediction of) derives from century old knowledge about greenhouse gases. That this knowledge has singularly failed to produce any worthwhile future climate predictions, means the scientific discovery is that greenhouse gases in the atmosphere do NOT have the predicted effect derived from laboratory experiments more than 100 years ago.

CACCA is a repeatedly falsified hypothesis, unscientific from the git-go, not even in the same class with the steady state theory of the universe, immobile continents, spontaneous generation, inheritance of acquired traits or special creation of species, which at least made testable predictions. It’s more akin to astrology, the humor theory of disease, phlogiston or phrenology.
Since it’s never been proven to be even a minor problem we’ll assume global warming is real but it’s not catastrophic.
Let’s assume global warming is real and it’s a good thing.
Let’s assume man’s activity not only helped warm our chilly planet (LIA) but also gave us a longer growing season with more vegetation along with improved health, longevity, comfort and security.

No, the greatest scientific achievement is the general theory of relativity. The theory of global warming is the greatest under-achievement of our time. Just compare, one man, eight man-years produces a theory that gives us unimaginable things like black holes, expanding universe, gravitational lensing and GPS. A century of tests through observation and laboratory tests. Every prediction holds. Compare this to climate science. Millions of man-years of research. What do we have. The greatest scientific discovery of all times has been fossil fuel. It has reduced toil and all but eliminated human slavery. It has permitted women to pursue careers outside of the home. It has led to the rise of the middle class. It has permitted people to live longer, be healthier and enjoy modern prosperity.
What came first was the political agenda and THEN came “global warming” and the complete ignoring of the fact that the 20 years of warming was part of a natural cycle. We now have cooling and they hang onto global warming because this is a political agenda not a scientific discovery. We have wasted many billions of dollars and 100s of scientific careers studying something that might a scientific interest but not something we can control or do anything about.
The assumption that our great computing power has created useful climate models is totally false. These super-expensive models have failed miserably because there are many scores of major factors that we do not know how to model. One cannot feed all of that data into a supercomputer and expect it to generate a model—it has to be programmed—we do not know how to model even clouds, while also ignoring the Sun, the moon, and their cycles.

Not to detract from the vital importance of fossil fuels, but IMO their discovery wasn’t scientific, which implies use of the scientific method. This definition of course lets CACCA out, too, with the critical disadvantage of aiming to return humanity to slavery rather than liberating it, as fossil fuels have done, so aptly noted by you.
Coal was found on or near the surface & used in antiquity, if not pre-history. Likewise surface deposits of petroleum & even outgassings of hydrocarbons.
Were it not arguably off-topic, I’d welcome a discussion here of what really is or are the greatest scientific discoveries, based upon utility to humanity or some other basis. Two have been proposed, unless I missed some.

Worthy candidates that spring to mind are the heliocentric theory, universal gravitation, atomic theory of matter, electromagnetic effect (Faraday, not already cited Maxwell), geologic time, extinction, evolution, thermodynamics, radioactivity, quantum theory, molecular basis of heredity, plate tectonics & the Big Bang, some of which are inter-related or follow-ons to more fundamental discoveries, listed or not. I’m sure readers can come up with more, all infinitely greater than the anti-scientific religion of CACCA.

Not usre if an invention qualifies as a discovery but I vote for the fractional horsepower electric motor. With out it no electric starters for cars —> very few women able to drive, no refrigeration—>regular visits from the iceman, no wash machines, no dryers, no electric fans for “cooling,” no air conditioning, can you imagine any of the early computers without AC and plenum floors, my laptop’s fan cranks up from time to time. I could go on but I think that you get the idea.

OK, so call me a beggar for punishment … (I can’t believe I watched the whole thing!) But if this is the “best” that advisors to the moaning and groaning “how can we communicate climate change” crowd can come up with, then, IMHO, the alarmists are in BIGGER credibility trouble than they were before!
At first I thought he was doing a (rather poor) imitation of Topher Field’s style … but this guy lacks Topher’s skillful timing and pacing (not to mention sincerity, imagination and articulation)!
The blurb on YouTube gives their game away with its concluding:

Why would it be an achievement? If it were true that there is such a thing as human-induced global warming, the “discovery” would amount to raising one’s hand while delivering powerful flatulence.

The discovery of global warming has about as much chance of being judged our greatest achievement as the predictions of Rachel Carson have of being judged substantially vindicated.

Again we face the issue of technological vs. scientific discovery. But the abundant element silicon has certainly played a key role throughout both technological & scientific history. From flint tools in the Paleolithic, through glass in the Neolithic (or Bronze & Iron Ages) to semiconductors in the industrial & information ages, silicon in its various compounds & alloys has been our friend from the crust of the earth.
PS: What we call chips now are the technological distant descendants of the flakes chipped off the flint & obsidian of our Old Stone Age ancestors’ tools. Likewise the lenses that were high tech in the 17th century for telescopes & microscopes are their nearer ancestors.

Your point about basic technology is well taken, although the first two great achievements of the Scientific Revolution (Copernicus’ heliocentric astronomical departure from Ptolemy & Vesalius’ anatomical departures from Galen), while within the Early Modern technological milieu, were based upon simple naked eye observation & a willingness to question received authority, plus in Copernicus’ case, mathematics. The same is true for Kepler (reliant on Tycho’s naked eye observations of Mars), but in Galileo’s case the advanced technology of lenses was essential.

Actually, I found this strangely informative…
If you watch with a detached curiosity, you notice he speaks too fast to engage the audience in a thoughtful way (i.e. word vomit), expresses his “scientific” ideas with a lot of hand waving (watch the monkey, nothing going on here…), and references things like “social cause”.
This behavior seems more or less universal to AGW proponents. They don’t like details, or engaging people in thought, and feel the science isn’t worthwhile unless it is used to change social behavior. I.e. they are political activists, not scientists. They create videos designed to entertain rather then inform.
What Science???
Why should we watch such junk? Trying to spread the pain?
