Josh on great moments in use of the 'D word'

Lucia notes:

As some of you know, Dana flung the “D” word at Richard Tol. He and a sympathizer who uses the handle “@IdiotTracker” have provided interesting definitions of either “Denier” or “acting like a denier”.

For those who don’t know, Dr. Richard Tol is hardly a “denier”, having been an IPCC reviewer, and author of several papers that are supporting of the global warming issue. But, Dr. Tol knows “crap” when he sees it.

I quite enjoyed Steve Mosher’s comment at Lucia’s:

Steven Mosher (Comment #113766)

I’ve explained to dana that AGU encouraged Anthony by publishing his work. They are deniers.

Josh writes:

John Cook and Dana Nuccitelli whose tweets and recent survey have been much discussed on the blogs, especially by Brandon and Lucia at The Blackboard, here, here, here, here, here and here. H/t and thanks to both of them for helping get the cartoon right 😉

And he sums up the hilarity:

If the cap fits

It will not be long now when there are only two people left in the world that believe in CAGW even then they will probably not accept it. There is a term for that, denial.

But, of course, Cook’s efforts have been clearly successful as illustrated by The Washington Post of 24 May that cites his work:
“For the record, and for the umpteenth time, there is no “great amount of uncertainty” about whether the planet is warming or why. A new study looked at nearly 12,000 recently published papers by climate scientists and found that, of those taking a position on the question, 97 percent agreed that humans are causing atmospheric warming by burning fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/eugene-robinson-obamas-mission-on-climate-change/2013/05/23/fee2f5a2-c3e7-11e2-914f-a7aba60512a7_story.html
A former political leader in New Zealand lived by the much quoted the dictum, “There is no such thing as bad publicity, there is only publicity.” Cook is clearly thriving in the amount he is being provided with by assorted climate blogs.

On my mother’s side both my grandparents were dead before I was born. So, I can only present this story about them through hearsay evidence. But that’s plenty good enough.
My grandmother, I was told, took a certain kind of humorous delight in calling my grandfather, “Bozo”. It stands to reason that he didn’t really like being called that. Of course that’s precisely why she did it. Relentlessly.
Apparently it was Bozo this and Bozo that until one day he discovered a way to put a stop to this. He conjured up a female version of Bozo so when she, for what would be the last time, called him, “Bozo,” he answered her; “Ok, Bozette.”
It was genius on his part. She never called him Bozo again.
Now everybody tells one not to retort to name calling by indulging in the same thing. My grandfather, I think, demonstrated quite adequately that that’s not always true. So, when one hears the dreaded “D” word give a wink and a nod to my grandfather’s ghost and … well, you get the idea.

We’ve reached an interesting stage.
The Warmers are now starting to call each other “The D Word”.
The Public is losing interest.
Ever more vitriolic and extreme exhortation to panic is being made by the Warmers.
The Public is starting to snicker.
It’s getting colder every year, not warmer at all.
More effort goes into claiming warmth that isn’t there.
More effort goes into trying to claim “it is cold because it is warmer”.
The Public gets a little bit pissed.
The Political Class are trying to cash in, and getting caught at it.
So they ramp up the P.R. / B.S. / Propaganda even more…
And now some of the more “out there” are managing to perturb the less corrupt, and the name calling is hitting folks as nominally “friendly fire”….
Soon they will be cannibalizing…
The soft hint of desperation is starting to show around the edges…
Don’t expect a surrender, or even an orderly retreat. It will be a battle of attrition. Some, like Hansen, will be looking to book that pension and exit the field so as to avoid the end game. Others will gamely hang on, hoping for another column to arrive in time.
Others will start complaining about the folks on ‘their own side’ not doing enough (and / or leaving the field – especially in the least defensible parts). That’s what we’re seeing now, I think…
Ought to be interesting watching this unfold over the next, ever colder, decades… It’s a 60 year cycle, and we’ve passed the “flat top reversal” area. It accelerates from here for a decade or so.
I’d expect to see folks starting to sort out into “types”. The Hard Core will gamely push the same broken story, and complain about the others. The Truly Mislead will notice the models and predictions are wrong, go back to work, and discover why (swapping away from C AGW in the process). The “Concerned but unsure” will abandon the most nutty assertions and areas, and try to find a smaller turf to defend. And some “genuinely puzzled will just find a corner to hide in while they try to figure out what went wrong and not get splattered by the mess as things implode. Then there will be all those political cronies and hangers on, promised largess at the public expense beyond the dreams of avarice. They will keep pushing no matter how silly / wrong they look; as long as they get some $$$ out of it.
So looking at this story, we are just seeing some of that dynamic form up. Some early sorting going on.
Ah well. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch…

Well done, Josh. Love the facial expressions. I’m guessing that the guy on the left (I think even his pink SANDALS (with socks –yuck — of course) are mismatched, too!) is Cook. Nuccitelli just jabbed Cook in the thigh with the key to his moped, muttering, “That’s ANOTHER fine mess you’ve gotten us into.”
What a Laurel and Hardy production they are!

I deny I was ever taken in by either the magic gais or the magic laight.
Infrared resonant gases block huge amounts of incoming sunlight. 25% of incoming sunlight as a matter of fact.
Then there’s the oceanic basins rejecting large amounts of blue (high energy) light when in liquid form, to the point the globe’s called “the blue planet.”
The reason no land masses appear blue is because they ABSORB all that heat. The blue oceanic basins alone kick back so much high energy light they appear blue; remember how something is the color of the light it’s rejecting? Oh yeah, that part.
Then there’s whatever part of the main greenhouse gas water that’s white, because it’s snow, or cloud tops. More massive rejection of light: not just mega-low energy but ALL spectra.
That’s even more light that never sees the substrate and gets kicked back into space. You can see it. From space.
Then there’s the stirring of the oxygen and nitrogen helping THEM cool the earth, that comes from being sucked in with the storm system and churned.
By the fake science suckers’ ‘greenhouse’ gas, water.
Not to mention the PHASE CHANGE REFRIGERATION function of water.
falling to the ground, evaporating and convecting up churning the nitrogen and oxygen so they emit at higher height it turns to ice after dumping massive heat up to space.
That’s all called COOLING.
I DENY anybody ever convinced me there was a ‘WARMING’ effect by it,
I DENY anybody ever MEASURED that effect,
I DENY anybody ever had me believing it was steering the whole climate, that’s for
DENYING DAm*ED sure.
So yeah I’m a DENIER. I haven’t had to be caught going round for ten years telling people it’s imperative “we all learn just how much thim magic gaises is uh…HEAT’n!”
There are warmers and there are deniers.
Warmers have been caught believing in magic gas, magic light, and a whole host of things that find them pointing infrared thermometers at the sky shouting they’re measuring water and CO2
*even after the manufacturers tell them they notched out the filters to not measure CO2/water.*
They’ve been caught believing in graphs where more energy leaves a system than comes in, “THAT’S thuh WARMIN right THAIR!” a-la Trenberth et al
Deniers alone who never acknowledged you’d ever prove the ATMOSPHERIC REFRIGERANT class of gases HEAT the globe stand above this mess with our hands clean of the entire fraud.
Any time John and Dana want to come here or come anywhere and defend their bullshoot story I’ll personally, without cracking a book, have people laughing at them with about the same ease it took to run down the LONG list of crackpot non science they said translates to the 2% of the atmosphere doing the REFRIGERATION
heating the other 98%.

Be very wary. They are now attempting to make global warming a health issue.
“The impact of warming temperatures on population health is of increasing concern to health practitioners and policy makers,’ said Prof Patrick Kinney, of Columbia University, New York.
If they manage that, imagine the rules and regulations (and research money) they could bring in !!!
We may look like we might be winning, thanks to people like Cook and Nutti (anyone can see they are complete morons), but the CAGW cult still have more tricks up their sleeves.

May 25, 2013 3:29 pm

I am pretty sure someone told Dana to stop engaging Dr. Tol as it is obviously bad for PR. As I said before the denier outburst is a clear sign Dana has been dealing with echo chambers and is clueless what scientist’s actual positions are on issues. The mores scientists I find with falsely classified papers in their study the worse this gets,

This example of blue-on-blue warfare perhaps suggests the end of the lie farce. It appears that the younger propagandized zealot is attacking a father of the movement for not being correct enough in his statements.
It recalls the 5th to 7th century AD with the Christian arguments over doctrine. No insult intended to Christians, who really did have a deep discussion about it all.

I think so too. You’ve got to love it when your enemies suffer power struggles. It’s certainly a positive sign.
I suspect that the ‘D’ word (or the ‘scarlet D’, as I like to put it) has been an effective tactic for some time now. It’s a delicate weapon though, one that can easily be broken by indiscriminate use. It only works as long as people believe other people will take it seriously and care about it, and if people like Dana start flailing around casually with it, that isn’t going to last all that long.

An example of the depth of conviction that some warmists have:
At the Starship Century Symposium this last week, in a panel discussion of “Envisioning The Starship Era,” David Brin casually commented that Earth is near the inner edge of Sol’s habitable zone. My eyes rolled so hard at that my wife heard them clang. During the Q&A, I sarcastically commented that “Of course the Earth must be at the inner edge of the HZ, how else can you explain that we’ve been in ice ages for most of the last three million years?”
Brin smoothly replied, “Your thinking is too European and northern hemisphere centric, much of the Earth was quite habitable during those times.”
Wow. It must feel good to drink that *deeply* of the Kool aid. Alas, I didn’t think at the time to ask him just how close to the equator he’d like the ice sheets to reach….

Its hardly the first time for this type of approach , for like any true religions fanatics for the AGW faithful its not enough to ‘believe’ not to be attacked you must believe totally and in ‘the right way ‘ or like any ‘good religion’ be attacked has a heretic a crime often seen has worse than not believing at all .
Add to to that the comic nature of the cartoonist’s and his lapdog and much humour will be seen.

Also Mr Mosher, I notice you avoided an answer to my questions with regard to your trillion dollar per degree C statement….
David says:

Steve Mosher says, “Let me put the importance of this metric into perspective: every degree of C in uncertainty is worth about 1 trillion dollars a year if you are planning to mitigate.”
Are you saying that the “C” in CAGW will be a trillion dollars in damage per 1 degree rise, or are you claiming it will cost one trillion dollars to change the T one C. Either way I call B.S. to your numbers, so please show me your power. (I actually think a drop of one C would be far more costly, and reduced CO2 means less food, and more land and water required to produce said food.)
