Newsbytes: Hansen's 4 year doom cycle gets rebooted

WUWT readers may recall this from 2009:

hansen_obama_4years

Some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires, and crippling drought, and more powerful storms… That is how we will preserve our planet, commanded to our care by God. That’s what will lend meaning to the creed our fathers once declared. –President Barack Obama, Second Inaugural Address, 21 January 2013

Hmmm, nevermind, let’s try again this term. I’m so thankful to be here since Hansen’s reliance on his Jor-el complex was wrong the first time. Here’s some reactions to Obama’s speech yesterday as collected by Dr. Benny Peiser of The GWPF.

By bringing in God, Obama is attempting to reframe the issue as one that transcends not only partisanship but the divide between those who believe in science and those who doubt science but believe in God. Left or right, atheist or creationist—either way, Obama is saying, we’ve got to do something. –Will Oremus, Slate, 21 January 2013

Obama’s decision to include the climate issue in his speech signals that he’s at least hoping to pursue yet another very difficult legislative goal. And climate change is about as difficult as any of the other items. Legislating the issue is even more difficult than finding a public consensus. With Democrats now in the minority in the House and with a smaller Senate majority, it’s hard to see how [climate] legislation would pass now, without being significantly scaled back or without some pressing new impetus. Even in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there wasn’t a concerted push on climate change. And given all the more time-sensitive issues on the table right now, it’s unlikely climate change will become a real priority any time soon. –Aaron Blake, The Washington Post, 21 January 2013

When President Obama takes the oath of office for the second time, he will also usher in a new era in American power politics. Whereas the old left-wing definition of “who rules” focused on large corporations, banks, energy companies and agribusinesses, the Obama-era power structure represents a major transformation. Today’s new hegemons hail almost entirely from outside the material economy, and many come from outside the realm of the market system entirely. Daniel Bell, in his landmark 1973 The Coming of Post-Industrial Society, may have been the first to identify this ascension to “pre-eminence of the professional and technical class.” This new “priesthood of power,” as he put it, would eventually overturn the traditional hierarchies based on land, corporate and financial assets. As befits a technological age, the new clerisy also enjoys the sanction of what Bell defined as the “creative elite of scientists.” More disturbing still may be the clerisy’s regal disregard for democratic give and take. Joel Kotkin, Forbes, 19 January 2013

One of his most passionate moments was even devoted to addressing “climate change,” of all things. He rarely mentioned the subject in the election campaign. But doing something about global warming is a commandment in the modern liberal catechism, and now Mr. Obama says it will be a major priority in the next four years. He even used the stock liberal description that those who disagree with him on climate change “deny” scientific fact. It’s another example of deliberately stigmatizing his opposition. –Editorial, The Wall Street Journal, 22 January 2013

Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth. Crucially, that action will have to be taken within Obama’s first administration, he added. –Robin McKie, The Observer, Sunday 18 January 2009

I really question President Obama’s mental capacity to fullfill the duties of president based on his fear of climate change. To even put it in his inagural speech illustrates he is not operating in the real world.

Hansen like Obama has little real world experience both being ivory tower products, just look at the disdain they have for half of the US population. A definite lack of real empathy, just overt political ideology…

That picture of Jim Hansen is especially appropriate. Eyes skyward, illuminated by light from above. He’s the image of a secular saint, with all the subliminal messaging of Renaissance religious piety.

Has POTUS ever had an actual job where he got his hands dirty or where he had to make an organization function without a bunch of party people guiding him about? To an outsider, it appears to me the US replaced a right wing guy who got told what to say through an earpiece with a guy who gets told what to do through a teleprompter. They both look a lot like automatons rather than leaders so who is really pulling the strings?

President Obama will address the dire threat of climate change just as soon as he finishes his next golfing vacation to Hawaii. Or maybe the week after….
Let us hope he will give this issue the same detailed attention he did first time around. That way it’ll only cost us a few billion in payola to his cronies in the solar “industry.”

Anthony:
In reality, If the global warming scare were not false then there would be nothing the US President and/or the US could do to avoid the problem: that solution would be in the hands of others; e.g. the Chinese. However, for sake of argument, I will assume the global warming scare is real.
sarc on/ Anthony, you should not have published this article.
Four years to save the Earth. Only four years and the entire Earth!
The US President alone has to achieve this daunting task. And since his efforts are needed to save the Earth including the US then he will surely attempt it.
Either he will succeed in which case there is no reason to worry.
Or
he will fail so we are doomed and our worrying about it will make no difference.
In either case, publishing this information provides people with the distress of a worry they would be better off not having.
So, your publishing this has given people unneeded distress for no purpose. /sarc off

In the same Guardian article I read:

Hansen said current carbon levels in the atmosphere were already too high to prevent runaway greenhouse warming. Yet the levels are still rising despite all the efforts of politicians and scientists.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/jan/18/jim-hansen-obama

If that is what Hansen actually said or meant then he is at loggerheads with the IPCC.

It would be nice if we really knew what was going on with the climate without a bunch of changes to the GISS data sets. Just to give two specific examples, this is what WFT has now for GISS for 2012:
First 11 months on GISS on January 22.

I was stumped for a while because I knew the December number dropped to 0.44, yet the average rose to 0.56! Now I know why! Here are the revised numbers for all twelve months:
2012 36 39 49 60 70 59 51 57 66 70 68 44 ave. 56
I can understand reasons for updating the most recent months, but GISS set a new record for the highest monthly anomaly. WFT still has January 2007 at 0.89, but this has now been raised to 0.93 on

If anyone has a good explanation why a number is raised 6 years later, I would like to know it.

That’s because he doesn’t have to worry about re-election. He is now free to pursue things that are important to the political inner-circle instead of the public. It’s like when he told Medvedev to hang on until after the 2012 election for him to neuter our missile defence system.

I would just like to point out that in 2009 Obama created the Belmont Forum and in 2010 the Belmont Forum released what it called the Belmont Challenge to restructure the economy, society, and even human behavior itself. http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/the-belmont-challenge-and-the-death-of-the-individual-via-education/ lays out what is being promised under the illusion it is required to save the world.
The Belmont Forum then joined in with UNESCO and UNEP and the International Council for Science and the International Social Science Council to get this global vision under way using IGBP in Sweden. Set up originally in 1987 after the release of the Brundtland Report. They call this effort the Future Earth Alliance and no one involved thinks it’s a joke or wears superhero costumes.
After a year of planning, FEA went operational on January 1, 2013. I’d say President Obama has the perfect vehicle for Transformative Change. Whether it is wanted or needed or not.
And with its monopoly influence over education, higher ed and K-12 mostly unappreciated, the accreditation agencies all over the world push UNESCO’s just basic skills and changes to values and belief systems. And it is all largely unreported or reported incorrectly as in OECD’s PISA and how it drives a poorly understood global Competency initiative that tracks back to the old notorious Outcomes Based Education.

I would love to someone ask the President (or any climate activist for that matter) a question at a press conference such as: “If we had reduced manmade global CO2 contribution by, let’s say 20 percent from the levels of 1990, what affect would it have had on tropical storm Sandy, and how would it compare to the more powerful hurricanes to hit the northeast many years ago?”
Do these people really think hurricanes will suddenly go away, or perhaps turn away from the coast because we’ve reduced CO2 output? Geez….

Maybe someone could create a petition at We The People on the White House website to show how many of us feel that CAGW or whatever it is called now is scientifically incorrect and economically disastrous. If 100,000 people sign the petition within 30 days, the White House must make a response.
It might be interesting to see the response to such a petition if it got major support from the American citizens.

How can anyone doubt that Obama will be every bit as successful as he’s been
in everything else he’s attempted?

January 22, 2013 12:00 pm

These are interesting times: I have the feeling “the consensus” is at last crumbling. It may become a faith thing versus a science thing. If it comes to that faith will lose, no-one really believes in creationist theories or Noah’s ark anymore. The foundations of CAGW are so eaten away, and rotten, that people will simply turn their backs on the pseudoscience. That the president of the US chooses now to nail himself to this rotten corpse makes me wonder what is going on in his head.
Until this moment I thought he was a well intentioned, slightly misguided but intelligent man.

Hansen & Sato (2012) predicted a 5 m increase in sea level “cannot be ruled out” by 2100
= 16.4 feet!

“Fig. 7. Five-meter sea level change in 21st century under assumption of linear change and exponential change (Hansen, 2007), the latter with a 10-year doubling time.”

Reality check: NOAA’s is now able to close the sea level budget against data.
It evaluates sea level rise at <b?1.1 +/- 0.8 mm/year for 2005-2012.
A simple extrapolation gives a century prediction of ~110 mm (4.3″)!
The Budget of Recent Global Sea Level Rise 2005–2012

“In this analysis, the global sea level rise budget for 2005–2012 is closed when the Paulson GIA correction is applied (Table 1). The sum of steric sea level rise and the ocean mass component has a trend of 1.1 ± 0.8 mm/a over the period when the Paulson GIA mass correction is applied, well overlapping total sea level rise observed by Jason-1 and Jason-2 (1.3 ± 0.9 mm/a) within a 95% confidence interval.”

Hansen: “A 10-year doubling time, or even shorter, is consistent with the gravity field data, but because of the brevity of the record even a linear mass loss cannot be ruled out.”
Hansen, J.E., and Mki. Sato, 2012: Paleoclimate implications for human-made climate change. In Climate Change: Inferences from Paleoclimate and Regional Aspects. A. Berger, F. Mesinger, and D. Šijački, Eds. Springer, pp. 21-48, doi:10.1007/978-3-7091-0973-1_2. http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/abs/ha05510d.html
Hansen predicts a possible 45 fold increase in sealevel above a simple linear extrapolation.
Now that is definitely a Chicken Little class alarm!
The last I heard, the radiative forcing of carbon dioxide is logarithmic in concentration, not exponential.

Dennis wingo- those comments don’t originate with Attenborough, they come from Prince Philip of Wales, whose family from Germany, was in with the Nazi SS. His cousin Prince Bernhardt, was in the SS and together they founded the WWF, they have taken Windsor’s disgusting comments and made a religion out of it that has spread to all the Greenpeace type groups out there. The origin of the environmental groups comes from the right of the political spectrum and is now disguised and sitting on the left, just like National Socialism itself, which will probably return in some fashion we don’t immediately recognize.

Barnstorming the country 24 /7 burning 3500 gallons of Jet fuel per hour, is certainly an odd way to convince people that they should pay more to heat their homes in the winter, and forgo the anual visit to relatives.
Back when a man was judged by his actions, instead of his oratory ability, that would certainly qualify as a “hypocrite”.

Like most scientifically illiterate folks, Obama confuses science with technology, and really believes that science knows all. But, you would think Obama would at least wonder why

I sent this to my congressman and senators:
In the president’s inaugural address he mentioned “those that deny the science” when speaking of climate change. As you may know, those of us that have looked at the evidence and do not agree that CO2 will destroy the world are often called climate change deniers or science deniers which is a rip-off of holocaust denier and very derogatory. I don’t know where you stand on this controversial issue but you have two brilliant scientists working at UAH, Drs. Spencer and Christy. If you haven’t may I ask that you contact these esteemed gentlemen and ask for their views on climate change and take this with you to Washington and do whatever you can to stop action to thwart climate change that may be detrimental to our economy?
Thank You,

Clear it is that the possible new votes for Democrat Party boss types is the 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants most of them from Mexico and South America.
Notwithstanding the shell game going on it seems to some that new thinking of better messaging needs to come from people like those herein.
We have the facts, the msm hides or distracts all we know.
A mass message must go out from some source, and the idea of how to do it very possible could come from this blog or the others like here.
The leaked e-mails in a mass dump from Drudge Report, or just a simple mass mailing via the U.S. Postal Service. TV and print will not use one word of truth no matter the price.

To all of you out there citing the irrationality of what Obama says or how wrong Hansen is shown to be over and over….. None of it matters because their goals have nothing to do with being right or rational. Obama’s goal is to transform the U.S. into a socialist country where the government is in charge of everything and controls as many aspects of your life as possible.
Who knows whether Obama believes in Climate Change or not. That’s irrelevant. What is relevant is that getting legislation passed about Climate Change is another way to control your life and another step on the path to government controlling everything.
Obama lies every time he opens his mouth but since we have a media completely in bed with his agenda, he never gets called out for it. And when the right tries to call attention to it they immediately get branded and crazy Constitution thumping right wing zealots.
We’re losing the war and will lose it completely if we don’t change out tactics. We have to go after the socialist left the same way they are going after us. That may be abhorrent to rational science minded people but logical debates over what is true and what is not true don’t work when one side is winning with tactics where science and logic are ignored.
Obama will fight the battles in the next 4 years that he thinks he has the best chance at winning as any win advances the socialist cause. Climate Change may or may not be a battle that can be won. His speech was just an dream list of battles he’d like to win. Some will be postponed for another future liberal administration to pick up.

2009: Venturebeat: Camille Ricketts: U.K. called climate change slacker, taps Accenture to turn Smart Grid program around
And one of its regulators estimated that it will need to spend 200 billion pounds (a staggering $316 billion dollars) over the next decade in order to make the necessary cuts in greenhouse gases. At the same time, the government announced that it has contracted Accenture to help ease its rollout of Smart Grid technology, which should push it closer to its goals…
Accenture is no stranger to the Smart Grid. In the U.S., it is partnering with Colorado-based utility Xcel Energy to run a pilot program incorporating these technologies. It also offers its Intelligent City Network — a portal for Smart Grid best practices that utilities can consult as they deploy smart meters and communicate changes to their customers…

Accenture plc is a multinational management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company headquartered in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. It is one of the world’s largest consulting firm measured by revenues[3] and is a constituent of the Fortune Global 500 list.[4] As of September 2012, the company had more than 257,000 employees across 120 countries…
Accenture originated as the business and technology consulting division of accounting firm Arthur Andersen…
Through the 1990s, there was increasing tension between Andersen Consulting and Arthur Andersen. Andersen Consulting was upset that it was paying Arthur Andersen up to 15% of its profits each year (a condition of the 1989 split was that the more profitable unit – AA or AC – paid the other this sum), while at the same time Arthur Andersen was competing with Andersen Consulting through its own newly established business consulting service line called Arthur Andersen Business Consulting. This dispute came to a head in 1998 when Andersen Consulting claimed breach of contract against Andersen Worldwide Société Coopérative (AWSC) and Arthur Andersen. Andersen Consulting put the 15% transfer payment for that year and future years into escrow and issued a claim for breach of contract. In August 2001, as a result of the conclusion of arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce, Andersen Consulting broke all contractual ties with AWSC and Arthur Andersen. As part of the arbitration settlement, Andersen Consulting paid the sum held in escrow (then $1.2 billion) to Arthur Andersen, and was required to change its name, resulting in the entity being renamed Accenture…

Anthony-
The National Academy of Sciences released a report today called “Climate and Social Stress: Implications for Security Analysis” that uses IPCC and the USGCRP reports as its authority that climate change is happening and it is time to move on to the national and international secutity risks posed.
The report does something I have never seen before and I read these reports a lot. It keeps making references to a whole-of-government approach and strategy. As in
“The US government should begin immediately to develop a systematic and enduring whole-of-government strategy for monitoring threats connected to climate change.”
That’s not climate change as science. It’s climate change as political and economic organizing principle using all governmental powers.
I cannot link but the nap # is 14682.
I know you mentioned you are about to do something with IPCC and USGCRP. Now would be a good time with the hyphenated whole-of-government pushing this.
Unprecedented. At least in countries pretending to have any restraints.

It was brutally cold and snowy cycling home from work last night. Hardly a set of conditions conducive to pondering AGW and how to save the planet, but there I was, thinking and pedaling along. So many newspaper editorials these days are expressions of ache for carbon taxes to right price carbon, yet governments slumber away – apparently in deep climate denial. Nonsense, I thought to myself, we can take action at a grassroots level today if we want. So I put a facility on my cycling blog to allow concerned citizens to voluntarily raise the price of their carbon, while I offset their carbon emissions with every rotation of the crankarms on my bicycle. Thus far, no newspaper columnists that have clambered for carbon taxes have made use of this facility. Nevertheless, this very low income individual will continue leading the low carbon lifestyle, secure in his trust that AGW worried folks will step forward and take immediate and effective voluntary action today.

Well I’m not old enough to have seen it happen; but I am old enough to remember that it happened.
in the early 1930s, The Chancellor of Germany was elected to power by (more or less) democratic processes; by will of the people (well there was that little Reichstag fire thing; but never let any crisis go to waste). We all know what happened; and those people, who made that choice paid a terrible price, along with much of the rest of the world.
Well this isn’t the 1930s; and we have someone new to blame for our problems and travails; millionaires and billionaires.
And we have new masses who want free stuff; even though they know it has to
be stolen from someone else, much like in the 1930s.
Elections have consequences. The USA had an election; so did the Golden State of California; by will of the people.
We are about to reap the consequences, of what happened as a result of (more or less) Democratic processes (well there was that little Sandy thing; but never let any crisis go to waste.)

” We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations”
For Obama to achieve this he must immediately declare war on China and India. Bomb their industry and coal fired power plants into rubble using nuclear bombs. Conventional warheads would give off too much CO2. He must then use the threat of further action to intimidate the Phillipines, Vietnam, Pakistan and all of Africa into not developing their economies thus preventing their CO2 footprint from rising. Then he has to bomb Germany, Poland, and the Uk as their emissions are rising.
Nothing he can do within America will make the slightest difference to climate change so there is no alternative.
Go for it!

Ok, I’m not exactly certain which particular god (forgive the small ‘g’) Obama’s talking about here, there’s been lots of them down through the ages. Perhaps Mr. Obama can enlighten us. Is it the green god Mr. Gore has recently (ok, not so recently) discovered? Is it Reverend Wright’s god? Which god is it Mr. Obama? Is it you? Did you command yourself? Or, is it the people’s god? Don’t forget, they pay your salary. So what particular god of the people did you talk to? I don’t recall you bringing that conversation up during the campaign. Why not? Is that because there were to many different gods talk to? What particular characteristic of your upbringing in Indonesia, or Hawaii, or your tutelage by Franklin Davis, or good ‘ol Saul, or your community organizing days, has given you unique access to the commands of a god, whichever of several there may or may not be? Oh, and by the way, is that god carefully hidden in the Constitution, only available to be teased out by someone on the same plane, someone such as yourself?

All of this stuff is flat out scary. Practically half the population here is flat out insane. These obama people are showing that they are the most despicable people in the world. Proof of this is in their actions bringing out a pre-existing political agenda (the old gun control debate) following the recent tragedy of some lunatic murdering a bunch of innocent kids, trying to push their agenda playing on the emotions of the populace. There are even admissions by these clowns that their proposed changes would have had no effect on the tragedy. What’s worse, their solutions sap limited resources and action away from changes that could have prevented the tragedy and future similar ones.
This probably will apply to their “save the planet” barf. They will destroy wealth and prosperity and the well being of most people in order for them and their select little cadre of supporters to consolidate power and control. All this being done while accomplishing nothing to solve the actual problem or in this case, assumed problem. Hence, it doesn’t matter what the data shows. We could be headed for a full bore ice age in 10 years and they will still be trying to ban carbon based fuels.

Obama fortunately waited too long to take climate change action. It appears the planet is about to cool. What action should he take to stop the cooling?
It will be interesting to see how the MET, James Hansen and the other extreme warming paradigm pushers explain planetary cooling.
The no warming forecast up to 2017 issued Christmas Eve by the MET is the start of the back peddling.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-21066534
“It happened after bloggers seized on a Met Office paper revising downward its decadal global temperature projection for 2017.
The damage to Met Office credibility, though, was exacerbated by a couple of blunders in its own communication. … …The first was to put the decadal report on its website on Christmas Eve – the traditional date for burying stories that the authorities don’t want publicised. I was initially suspicious. But the Met Office since explained that the scientist responsible was due to finish the work by end of year and was about to go on holiday. … …Scientists have been puzzling for some time over exactly what combination of factors is preventing the earth getting even warmer – maybe changes in solar activity, ocean currents or emissions of aerosol pollution.”
William:
There appears to be a significant solar magnetic cycle change underway. The sun is rapidly heading to a special type of Maunder minimum, the type that causes Heinrich events, if I understand the mechanisms. There is in the paleoclimatic record cycles of sinusoidal warming and cooling that follow a 400 year and 1500 year cycle and a 6000 to 8000 year abrupt cooling events that both correlate with solar magnetic cycle changes (there are cosmogenic isotope changes that correlate with the sinusoidal and the abrupt climate change events). Volcanic activity also correlates with the solar magnetic cycle changes decreasing during times of high solar magnetic activity and increasing during when the solar magnetic cycle moves to deep minimum. If I understand the mechanisms and if the sun is moving to the special Maunder minimum this will be the scientific story of the century, a game changer.
http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/SolarCycle/Ap.gif
William: Logically as the planet has stopped warming, scientific journals are now publishing papers to help explain why the planet has stopped warming.

Models have it wrong again: New paper finds clouds act as a negative feedback
A paper published today in the Journal of Climate finds that the global average feedback from clouds is negative, not positive as claimed by climate alarmists. Most climate models are programmed to assume clouds act as a positive feedback that accelerates global warming, but this paper and many others based on observations show this assumption is incorrect.

Jim–the UNESCO takeover and reform of higher ed started in 1998. What time any of those men spent passing through a campus briefly was before that.
The accreditation agencies push to remake education away from academics goes back to the 30s and what is known as the 8 Year Study. It still impacts education and is still seeking full implementation as what we know today as Outcomes Based Education.
UNESCO has always been about changing the nature of the West noetically. Through cultural evolution which is Lamarckian. Julius Huxley basically created the template for UNESCO around cultural evolution. People unskilled in Marxian thought put the focus on economics and control of the means of production. The main target though that can drive the remaining goals has always been consciousness.
And in the mid-90s UNESCO and the accreditors began to coordinate in a process misleadingly called Quality Assurance.
And right now much of what is going on in education is designed to make sure there is no more Creative Destruction displacing current companies. Think of what the buggy whip makers would have done about 1900 if they had had the political connections to try to rig their markets.
Dirigiste is the word for such a politically connected state directed economy of the public sector and Cronies. Very similar to Mercantilism. Prosperity for the connected.

It seems that Kipling was somewhat of a prophet:
****************************************************
“AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”
In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”
Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return! “

I’ve spent a lot of thought trying to unravel the mystery of how so-called “liberals”, such as Hansen et al, actually think. The first result of my thought process tends to confirm my Theory of Inverse Reality in that “liberal” is, more or less, the opposite of what it is intended to be. Consider the colors red and blue for instance. Does anyone remember when we called communist China “Blue China?” People who identify themselves as liberals or Democrats nowadays call themselves “Blue”, but in reality such lines of thinking run more towards the socialist end of the political spectrum, or closer towards “Red China”. California, where I live is called by almost everyone to be a “Blue” state, but in reality we are closer philosophically to a socialist state than say Texas, for instance. So how did red and blue become transposed so neatly on this side of the Pacific Ocean and no one seems to have noticed? Take light bulbs as another example. Is being of the liberal persuasion concomitant with providing a narrow or wide choice in “allowable for purchase” light bulbs in a supposedly free society? One might think that legislatively narrowing ones choices in the lighting arena portends a more conservative approach, not a wide-open liberal one, where you can purchase whatever kind of light bulb you want. Perhaps the most egregious example might be biofuels. If I am to believe that liberals are looking out for us little people, how does mandating use of food for fuel accomplish that purpose in any way? Does it not accomplish the exact opposite?
Catch my drift?
These days, when I see things like Hansen rebooting or recycling the same warning and tipping point, two election cycles in a row, I automatically pass this through the inverse reality lens and come to the exact opposite conclusion. Because, as counter-intuitive as it may seem, it is rarely ever wrong.
That is why I ardently believe everything Obama/Hansen/Mann et al do not say. Applied in this pretzel-logic way Hansen might actually be correct. It is entirely possible that we will arrive at a climate tipping point in the next 4 years, another 4 years or even 4 centuries or 4 millenia. But it will probably be of the opposite sign of the one expected. It might very well be the slide into the next ice age, which is now due…………..
In the final analysis we have labeled ourselves Homo sapiens, the wise one. This too may have run afoul of the Theory of Inverse Reality.

The three which have been most easily and most frequently rebutted.

Katherine,
To answer your question, if Obama’s current spending trajectory holds for the next four years, we will be looking at U.S. debt in the neighborhood of $20 – $25 Trillion. Those dollars will have to be repaid. Unchecked inflation is the easy way for government to pay those debts. In the mean time, Obama cronies get to spend those dollars at today’s buying power.
This is the inevitable result of hyperinflation.
If there are any doubts that this Kenyan is deliberately destroying the U.S. economy, his wild spending spree should put those doubts to rest. We are being sold out by someone who plans to be the future UN Secretary-General — and in charge of the world. That will be his pay-off for selling out U.S. sovereignty, and that is where all this is heading.

Out of the blue, citizen Nixon puts a cap on the 60’s to thus turned 20 million tripped-out kids into jaded radicals instead of artsy tree huggers as Tim Leary in PRISON sent out word to DESTROY, and Nixon too did a world historical flip flop, to turn the only book in human history that exceeds a million righteous cases of infanticide into…get this (!)…an excuse to first deny teens ready access to birth control and then condem the resulting teenage visits to quick fix clinics.
When Fox News ran with Climategate, a collective shudder expressed itself, here, that week. I can still defend scientific rigor against claims that Antarctica is warming in headline news, but I cannot anymore link to him (Goddard) or you (Watts). He posts Nazi killing fields and bloody abortion images, as *if* women who demand huge African blood diamonds and $1800 pairs of shoes actually care about Pope-bastardized versions of old dusty books. And you won’t even post the Church @ White chart of the average of tide gauge data from Canada to the Cape of Africa. So you instead post thousand word blog-only essays full of crazy charts. Monckton is figuring it out: your big weapon is basic data, not points awarded for being Mr. Wizard. Pointman gets it too, as he delves into psychology.

The whole Hockey Team may find the ice a little less stable, than they would like it.

“Another four years of flat or declining temps”–that’s what I think is in the pipeline. I think the Pranksters on Olympus have set up the extreme events of recent years in order to lure extreme warmists out onto a limb hat is about to be sawed off, so the Pranksters will have a good laugh at what fools these mortals be.

REPLY: and where you live, in Australia with its ridiculous Carbon tax, is it any better? – Anthony
No it’s bloody not Anthony and 51% of us are very unhappy about it. The difference is that we are a small nation just inside the edge of the world. No one genuinely cares a $hit what we think but the US , like it or not, is looked upon as the champion of democracy. If you drop the ball there’s no other nation big enough to pick it up!
Four more years of ineffective Obamerism. Obama didn’t win the Republicans lost because the Republicans seem incapable of picking a candidate with whom the man-in-the-street can genuinely empathise.

Until Hanson starts being more credible with his science and forecasts.his voice will be mostly ignored. Here is a summary of various forecasts of global temperature anomaly [hadcrut3] at the end of 2017 [after next 5 years] comparing Hanson’s forecast with those of others.
The data has been calculated or eyeballed from data or graphs available on the internet
CO2 BASED
JAMES HANSON 1.4 C for A, option
1.2 C for B option
0.6 C for C option
IPCC 0 .750 C [ options A2, A1B, B1]
CLIVE BEST 0. 55 to 0 .7 C ADJUSTED BASED ON AIB and B1 SCENARIOS]
MET OFFICE 0.430 C [0.28 C to 0.59 C] WAS 0.76 C previously
NON CO2 BASED
N.SCAFETTA 0.450 C HARMONIC MODEL [RANGE 0.3 to 0.55 C]
P. MICHAELS 0.4 to o.5 C ADJUSTED TREND OF IPCC
TALLBLOKE 0.4 to 0.5 C BASED ON SEA SURFACE TEMP
G.ORSSENGO 0.226 C STATISTICAL MODEL BASED ON GMTA HADCRUT 3 history [0.1C to 0.55C lower and upper limit]
D. EASTERBROOK -0.1C BASED ON 1790-1820 PAST TREND
0.0 C BASED ON 1880-1915 PAST TREND
0.4 C BASED ON 1945-1977 PAST TREND
S-ICHI AKASOFU < 0.5 C [BASED ON PAST TEMPERATURE PATTERN
LAST 12 MONTH TREND OF HADCRUT3 EXTENDED TO THE END OF 2017 0.350 C
OBSERVED HADCRUT 3GL TO THE END OF NOVEMBER 2012 0.417 C
It would appear that the trend of the latest forecasts is a significant lowering of the HANSON alarmists prediction. By the end of 2017 his forecast could be a full degree higher than the observed.

Hansen has adjusted, readjusted, re-readjusted, and re-re-readjusted temperatures. Therefore it is only fitting that he get booted, rebooted,re-rebooted, and re-re-rebooted.

You can tell your Mr Obama that our Gods are serving up a Spring and early-Summer from a Scandinavian type of Hell in only three years time, and that gets followed up by the return of Murphy’s winter, which lasts till June 2017.
We do not need to wait for appreciable global cooling for these seasons to be extreme, 1740 is a prime example: http://climexp.knmi.nl/data/tcet.dat
It is time to build up grain reserves again, and to beware of financial panic arising out the difficulties.

Australia: depends on where you live, most live near the coast and most of the agriculture is conducted inland, not all bananas grow up hills near the coast.(Coff’s Harbor) Urbanites are used to two showers a day, because it gets hot and they hate dust and sweat. Bush bunnies, are used to droughts so have to share a bath sometimes in severe drought weather if they rely on only rainwater to fill their tanks. But its the floods and bush fires that are causing problems right now. And no amount of money to save the earth from climate change will solve that. It’s just that people built on flood plains years ago, without knowing the danger they were in when the rain’s came. Instead of solar panels they should build more riverbank levies and concentrate on better bush fire management. Did you know the majority of our brave bush fighters are volunteers, like some of our coastal life guards. You know I had someone visit me from the government to assist me to help me save using too much electricity, . He reckoned my hot water bill was way over average (I had two visitors using the shower for one month or more, with only a 60 gallon off peak water tank) he tried to spin me on solar heating as off peak charges would finish next month. I said where I live solar is not a feasible option, as it gets too cold here. True too. Yes Anthony the carbon tax is useless, and people would not mind paying it if it did improve the environment, hence it will be scrapped next September when the coalition remove the ALP. We’ll see, if the new government can’t be any worse than this present one.
