Heartland Institute announces climate conference in Germany

From the PRweb service, proof that Peter Gleick might have made a dent with his theft of documents under false pretenses, but he sure didn’t stop the effort. – Anthony

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) November 15, 2012

What: Eighth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-8)

Where: Hotel Bayerischer Hof, Munich, Germany

When: Friday, November 30 – Saturday, December 1, 2012

Media: Open to all media. Register here.

Contact: Jim Lakely, director of communications, The Heartland Institute: jlakely(at)heartland(dot)org

The Heartland Institute is partnering with the Germany-based European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE) to host the Eighth International Conference on Climate Change. The event is also the Fifth International Conference on Climate and Energy. This is the second time The Heartland Institute has hosted a climate conference outside the United States. The fifth International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-5) was held in Sydney, Australia in 2010.

Dr. S. Fred Singer, Heartland senior fellow and director of the Science and Environmental Policy Project, and Heartland Senior Fellow James M. Taylor join many internationally renowned scientists for the first two-day ICCC-sponsored event in Europe.

Among the scientists presenting at ICCC-8:

  • Dr. Thomas Teluk, Globalization Institute, Poland
  • Dr. Gernot Patzelt, University of Innsbruck
  • Dr. Josef Reichholf, Committee for Ecology, Bavarian Academy of Science
  • Dr. Marcus Ernst, president, Peutinger Collegium
  • Dr. Paul Reiter, Unité “Insectes et Maladies Infectieuses” Institut Pasteur, Paris
  • Dr. Josef Reichholf, Committee for Ecology of the Bavarian Academy of Science
  • Dr. Niels Axel Mörner, Department of Paleogeophysics & Geodynamics, University of Stockholm
  • Dr. Nir Shaviv, Racah Institute of Physics, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
  • Jacob Nordangård, Department of Thematic Studies, Technology and Social Change, Linköping University

The Heartland Institute has hosted seven previous International Conferences on Climate Change, the most recent in Chicago in May 2012. More information on those previous conferences — including videos of the presentations by some of the world’s most respected climate scientists — can be found at the ICCC Web site.

The following comments may be used for attribution. For more information, contact Heartland Institute Communications Director Jim Lakely at jlakely(at)heartland(dot)org or 312/377-4000. On deadline, send an email or call/text 312/731-9364.

“This conference is more proof, if any were needed, that important issues surrounding the causes, extent, and consequences of climate change remain unresolved in the scientific community,” said Heartland Institute President Joseph Bast. “We are honored to partner with the European Institute for Climate and Energy to showcase sound science and economics on the most important environmental debate of our age.”

“I am looking forward to bringing The Heartland Institute’s International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC) to European soil this month,” said James M. Taylor, senior fellow for environment policy at The Heartland Institute. “It will mark the eighth ICCC, with events held on three continents. The scientific evidence grows stronger each day that we are not facing a global warming crisis, and I look forward to presenting another conference where the scientists themselves will explain the evidence.”

The Heartland Institute is a 28-year-old national nonprofit organization headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. Its mission is to discover, develop, and promote free-market solutions to social and economic problems. For more information, visit our Web site or call 312/377-4000.

Did anything ever come of this? Were charges pressed against Gleick, and if not, why not?

Why does the registration website say it’s “5th international conference on climate and energy”? That doesn’t match “8th international conference on climate change” very well to me…

Good news.
Unfortunately, Fritz Vahrenholt and Sebastian Lüning, authors of “Die kalte Sonne” (the cold sun) are not participating. They are currently the most prominent proponents of skeptic views on Global Warming in Germany.
By the way: Dr. Josef Reichholf appears two times on the list of participants – the error is already in the original press release…

Ravenoo,
I like that you published your methodology, thank you. After checking it, I found no reference to confining your search to just those articles addressing climatology specifically. That is, your method would scoop up non-climatological articles that accepted global warming on faith as part of addressing some other concern such as the potential effect of global warming on salamanders or particular crops. Since belief in global warming currently is currently widespread, such a broad net would inflate your count. I suggest narrowing your search to only those articles that discuss the mechanics of climate change, rather than those that include it only tangentially to other topics.

I guess you have left the building (mostly your type do, immediately after they drop their doo)
From your page of choice-
“Of one thing we can be certain: had any of these articles presented the magic bullet that falsifiesproved human-caused global warming, that article would be on its way to becoming one of the most-cited in the history of science.”
FTFY free of charge.
The rest of the page is tripe. Utterly. I await your next references from realclimate, SS and climateprogress – bastions all of paid advocacy, so we must just beeeleeeieveee…

He asks a good question. Without charges, tempest in a teacup, the lady-doth-complain-too-much, and all that Shakespearean drama.

I wonder how many whistle blowers lost their jobs before the Whistle Blower Act was passed? And I wonder how many are still losing their jobs? Or being made to work under such onerous demands they are forced to quit? That a global catastrophic doomsdaysayer continues to bloviate on their soapboxes without consequences is testimony to freedom of speech, not that they are right.

And yet, Einstein’s theories are used everyday in all kinds of essential ways… People would be fools not to incorporate them in their designs. Why do you suppose that is?

Ravenoo;
Nice pie chart. Here’s the money quote from the article itself:
“Articles that merely claimed to have found some discrepancy, some minor flaw, some reason for doubt, I did not classify as rejecting global warming.”
So…. all the papers that found problems with the science but did not specifically SAY something about rejecting the cagw meme were excluded.
LOL.

Ravenoo: Thanks for the effort, but come on, man. Do it properly and let us know when you have included correct sets of articles. You have made yourself too easy a target. That is not right. We are all interested in the truth.

some heartening news for all sceptics:
EUAs plummet after EU struggles to sell permits
LONDON, Nov 15 (Reuters Point Carbon) – European carbon prices fell nearly 10 percent to a three-month low on Thursday after the EU sold 4 million spot allowances at a steep discount in a poorly attended auction.
Front-year EU Allowances fell on the news, plummeting from 7.57 euros when the auction ended to as low as 7.06 euros by 1437 GMT.
Prices then climbed back to 7.25 euros by 1556 GMT, down 67 cents or 8.5 percent on Wednesday’s settlement…
“Nobody is buying anymore … The people that bid up the price ahead of the EU’s backloading proposal are now not capable of supporting it, and this is a very bad sign,” another trader said…
Meanwhile, Dec-12 CER prices fell 15 percent to 61 cents – a cent above the all-time low hit on Wednesday – before climbing back to 71 cents at the time of writing.

16 Nov: Bloomberg: Jim Snyder/Dawn Kopecki FERC Suspends JPMorgan Unit’s Power-Trading Authority
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission yesterday suspended a JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) unit’s electricity-trading authority, saying it had filed false information to regulators.
The action, part of a more aggressive effort by the commission to monitor U.S. power markets, prohibits J.P. Morgan Ventures Energy Corp. from selling electricity at market-based rates for six months starting April 1, 2013.
The FERC said the company made “factual misrepresentations” and omitted material information in communications with the California Independent System Operator, or Caiso, and in filings to the commission. Caiso operates the state’s power grid.
“This is very significant in the history of that agency,” Charles Peabody, a bank analyst with Portales Partners in New York, said in an interview…
JPMorgan would still be able to trade derivatives under the order…
“The provision of false, misleading or inaccurate information undermines the integrity of the FERC decision-making process, the smooth operation of markets and FERC’s ability to ensure just and reasonable rates for customers,” FERC said in an e-mailed statement…
The commission is also investigating alleged manipulation by traders for Deutsche Bank AG (DBK) and Barclays Plc…
Since January 2011, the agency has announced 11 market-manipulation probes, and in March it reached a $245 million settlement with Constellation Energy Group Inc. over one of those cases. Last month, the agency proposed a record $469.9 million in penalties for Barclays, which says it will contest the finding…
While the unit accounted for a small portion of JPMorgan’s $97.2 billion in 2011 revenue, yesterday’s decision adds to regulatory trouble for the New York-based company. At least 10 federal agencies and a U.S. Senate panel are investigating a multibillion-dollar trading loss at its chief investment office in London…
The company schedules and controls the dispatch of electricity from 10 power plant units in Southern California, according to Caiso.

@Ravenoo: The title to your link is childish. “Why Climate Deniers Have No Scientific Credibility – In One Pie Chart” What does climate denier mean anyway? Is that the same as cloud denier or sky denier? There is climate, there are clouds and there is a sky. The burden is on the proponents of CAGW to provide evidence that rising CO2 caused 90% of 30 years of warming through 1998, but something else unexpected happened for the past 15 to 17 years to cause the warming to stop, while it’s now worse than than expected. McFly… hello

joanne nova’s presentation on WUWT.tv may have been short and sweet, but it was also, perhaps, the most prescient:
15 Nov: Prime Minister’s Office: Speech to Business Council of Australia Dinner
It’s been observed by some that there are controversial Labor policies reflected in the White Paper – like the NBN, like school improvement, like pricing carbon…
In total around sixty per cent of the world’s GDP is either subject to a carbon price today, or has one legislated or planned for implementation in the two or three years ahead.
International carbon markets will cover billions of consumers this decade.
***Ask the bankers at your table whether they want Australia to clip that ticket. We’re going to help them get their share…

Great illustration of the CO2AGW gravy train!
Hansen alone earns NASA a cool 1.2 billion USD a year – which they of course spend on warmist studies.

All paid for by borrowing money from the Chinese or letting Bernanke just print it. According to Krugman that’s how you grow an economy.
Good luck, Americans. Maybe your economy will start to grow if you produce twice as many warmist papers as now.

@ DirkH: you wrote “All paid for by borrowing money from the Chinese or letting Bernanke just print it. According to Krugman that’s how you grow an economy.” If you are talking about Paul Krugman. He’s perhaps one of the most left leaning Keynesian snots.

Let’s not feed the trolls! and let’s not bother to give their crass puerile dung infested sites any traffic!
drive by trolls are the worst type. I know Anthony prefers his site to be open – but this kind of trolling, posting a link to aggravate and flame us all – is rather pathetic.
FWIW – I think the link should be removed, it’s not science and is not relevant to the climate science debate!

Have you seen the data Krugman has presented showing that US citizens own almost as much foreign debt as our government owes to foreign entities?
If so, what do you make of it?
