Friday Funny – why wouldn't he dress up as Yamal YAD06?

What will Supermandia dress up as this year?

Every time I look at this photo of Mike Mann’s most earnest defender, “AGW Prof” and operator of the Climate Science Defense Fund, Dr. Scott Mandia, I get a case of the giggles. Some of my commenters say it gives them other afflictions, and for those, I apologize in advance for foisting this image upon you again.

Dressing up for Halloween can be fun, and that’s the main idea. Dressing up to score political points and to demonstrate hero-worship, not so much.

The level of self parody here is off the scale, particularly when both he and Mann were both quite serious about it last year.

Funny thing though, I sent a tweet out ribbing SuperMandia, wondering what he’d dress up as this year. Big Bird? A biofuel powered plane? A green locomotive? No. Something more down to Earth, and again something that gives me a side splitting case of the giggles.

That’s Supermandia’s idea of a zinger on this most recent paleoclimatology paper. So if that’s the case, and he wants to parody small near arctic tree sampling regions used to represent global temperature, why wouldn’t he dress up as that famous Yamal tree, YAD06, the Most influential Tree in the World? I’d pay to see that.

Read the full story here: Yamal and Hide-the-Decline

SuperMandia dressed up as YAD06 would even beat Peter Gleick’s 1978 self parody of a human windmill and balloon animal.

Happy Halloween! (oh, and bazinga!)

I think Gleick’s “Personal Wind” was coming from a different source, burritos.

Since SimperMandia worships Zeus, er Mann, he could dress up as a Graybill Bristlecone too, with some cores apparently having removed the functioning portions of his brain.

Visions of grandeur, dressed as a tree? A single tree? With a bird’s nest in his hair and worms between his toes?
I can’t think of anything more fitting.

Talking of trees, here’s a great article from the SMH in Australia.
http://www.smh.com.au/environment/climate-change/ancient-tree-offers-clues-for-a-warming-planet-20121020-27xmi.html
“Understanding those plants which are thriving in such hectic environments – like this ragged Christmas tree on a marshy plateau 900 metres (3,000 feet) above sea level – may yield clues: “It seems to be growing quite well,” said researcher Leif Kullman. “That’s a result of warming in the past 100 years.”
It’s been warming a little bit longer than that. Me thinks you need to google info on the Little Ice Age.

I understand the waders, since we have aromatic dairies nearby. But he might need hip or chest waders, or possibly a drysuit and air tanks since their climate crap is so deep.

In that case, Mann should dress up as a bristlecone pine and tell everyone that he can mimic the “Global Temperature Field” from one mountain in Colorado.

Here’s a good story on trees talking:
Trees Communicate With Each Other
Posted on October 18, 2012
“MOTHER TREES” USE FUNGAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS TO PRESERVE FORESTS.

Oh wait – you said talking OF trees not with them ….
I wonder what that poor Yamal tree will have to say when we break their network code 😉
More seriously its actually a kind of interesting story.

how many battalions will it take to administer this? and every time the situaion changes, who notifies whom?
20 Oct: Bloomberg: Power Hogs Targeted by France in Big Brother Legislation
Heating a French home could soon require an income tax consultation or even a visit to the doctor under legislation to force conservation in the nation’s $46 billion household energy market.
A bill adopted by the lower house this month would set prices that homes pay based on wages, age and climate. Utilities Electricite de France SA and GDF Suez SA (GSZ) will use the data to reward consumers who cut power and natural gas usage and penalize those whom regulators decide are wasteful.
“It’s Orwellian,” opposition lawmaker Daniel Fasquelle said by telephone. “The law will create huge inequalities and infringe on people’s individual freedoms. It won’t work.” …
The legislation drew criticism from trade unions and industry groups. It will add layers of bureaucracy to a power system already attacked in court and antitrust probes for being oppressive for customers and competitors of EDF (EDF) and GDF Suez, the former state monopolies that still dominate supply, opponents said…
The proposed law was adopted by the National Assembly on Oct. 4 and is set for Senate debate later this month…
The new French law will add income and the number and age of occupants to the mix. Having a medical condition that requires electricity-powered equipment like respirators or wheelchairs will also enter into the equation…
Renters will be able to deduct from their monthly payments a part of the higher costs of heating a home deemed to have low energy use efficiency, maybe because it’s poorly insulated, while the elderly or households with certain yet-to-be specified heating installations will get higher base volumes of energy…

From your link, a concept illustrated in the “Avatar” movie? My understanding of the storyline is that “Gaia” is good, “Man” is bad even though we are a completely natural part of “Gaia”. I agree there could be some fungal “communication network” here in the plant world, and as an example, I know many insect species pupulation is controlled this way, by what I read to be almost “bespoke” like fungi. But this tree-fungi thing is a bit too much “Hollywood sci-fi” for my liking. Reminds me of the film “The Happening”.

I think he has the blade placement correct, if he keeps his nose close to a source of Mann made wind.

I agree with Hoser and can’t help but notice the congruency of the B.S. waders and the “C” for “Crap” that Mandia proudly wears on his puffed out chest. And the lunacy displayed in Gleick’s 1978photograph is certainly foreboding of the craziness to follow.

Just remember, if you see any worthless wind turbines at your door from either candidate, they are all trick and no treat.
Gleick is going to need a few more additions to his costume. He will need a 4′ graph with a red line going up to reflect national energy prices; some bags of money in subsidies and constraint payments; he will need to be accompanied by black outs, refrigerated food gone bad, and the Grim Reaper for those times when there are no sea breezes. Also he will need a cement factory and an enormous, swimming pool sized base, which cracks immediately under the stress of the 250′ – 400′ wind turbine. He should be emitting infrasound as well.
Yes, Holloween is a good time of year to contemplate the fact that there is a very dark side.

It is not nice to make fun of people who are burdened with self inflicted noble cause pretensions. N’cest ce pas?
There is a straight forward alternate reality explanation of that costume pic of Mandia.
Every team like the CG1&2 ‘team’ cum NASA GISS team cum the Schmidt/Mann fan club needs a mascot.
Mandia’s the low academic on the alarming climate chain of command . . . it appears he got stuck with mascot. It looks like Scottie likes it.
