Refineries actually operate on heat to distill the crude. Heat should be good…

My guess is that part will create some complaints to YouTube about copyright infringement and it will be taken down. Just in case, I already have another version prepared with the transcripts from the two PBS shows and Al’s press release. It won’t be as good with me reading it, but it’ll get the message across.

Bob, I bought your book a few weeks back and even though I’m not a scientist or in any field relating to climate change I found the content relatively easy to understand and, on the face of it, pretty logical and convincing.
I understand your comments at the time regarding getting the book on to ereaders like Kindle etc and I tried converting and uploading it to my Kindle – it isn’t perfect but it’s fine – if I need to refer back to a graph etc I just fire up the PDF.
The video is quite damning of the alarmists – rightly.

Having had a look at a number of Bob’s excellent videos I see a very high correlation between the level of solar activity and the trend of sea surface temperatures as reflected in the ENSO process.
It is clear that the high solar cycles number 17, 18 and 19 resulted in increasing SSTs, cycle 20 resulted in lower SSTs and cycles 21, 22 and 23 gave higher SSTs once more.
I found the speed of the oceanic response to solar variations quite surprising.
What we seem to have here is a high climate sensitivity to solar variations operating via SSTs and in particular the net relationship between El Ninos and La Ninas.
That high climate sensitivity to solar variations is then countered by a negative system response whereby the global air circulation changes to counter the increased energy being released from oceans to air.
Simply put, if more energy enters the oceans then it is soon released to the air by an increase in El Nino relative to La Nina. The global air circulation then changes to expel that extra energy to space faster and the visible manifestation of that response is a latitudinal shift in the permanent climate zones which we perceive as climate change.
As for the cause of the change in energy received by the oceans we need to look to global cloudiness and albedo which seems to follow the expansion and contraction of the polar vortices in response to changes in the mix of particles and wavelengths from the sun.
Now we have a very weak solar cycle 24 which should soon provide the evidence we need to resolve the issue.
I teach children at times. It takes effort to condense a concept into a package they can comprehend. To go into the details behind the concept would “lose them”.
Many of us out here are “children” in our understanding of the details of the CAGW PR campaign. We aren’t stupid. But we are ignorant of many of the details of their “sychobable”.

I stopped watching ‘Expendables 2’ ( not a great hardship I can assure you ;)) to watch this.
I think, no, I know I was already aware of the conclusions discussed here but often the science is delivered in an unfriendly manner for those not as familiar with the work and data as Bob is. As noted above, Bob’s posts, whilst informative and thorough can get a little weighty for the layman ( I know you are aware of this Bob, I’ve seen you discuss it before ) and it’s nice that this was explained in such simple terms that I’ll be happy to offer this video, without comment to a few of the more zealous warmista I know to see what the excuse is this time.
I also found it pleasantly odd to discover that Bob has a “good ole boy” accent. As a Brit I’m used to my science being delivered by “Oxbridge” type stuffed shirts 😉
Also glad you got the book plug in Bob, would not do to forget that. I suppose I’d better cough up some pennies and buy it as I did with the previous “if the IPCC…” book. It would be nice to get a version straight to Kindle and I know it’s not a difficult procedure to sell in that market.
Calibre, as pointed out above is the weapon of choice for conversion, it is free and has all manner of goodies meaning I can have my e-book collection on Kindle, Windows, Windows Phone and Android devices as and when I need them and it also runs a handy server so that I can transfer them all wirelessly from my PC which is usually the purchase point. I could not live without it.
If you have any difficulty getting to grips with the conversion bob, just ask here, I’m sure many will be happy to help. Sometimes a little reformatting is required to get a perfect conversion but I’ve done literally thousands of books, it’s simple once you get into it.

I tend to use different standards for judging science, and have always tended to fly-off-the-handle when faced with certain “adjustments” on the part of Hansen and Mann. I may not have understood all their math, but I knew darn well when history was being “revised.” When the blazing heat of the Dust Bowl, or the MWP which allowed Vikings to harvest barley in Greenland, was erased by revisionist history, I’d blow a fuse. At certain times, (when we occasionally inhabited the same territories of the blogosphere,) you were always the voice of reason, facing me with facts, telling me to calm down.
Therefore it means something that you have become as critical of Climate Scientists as you have become. Whereas, in my case, criticism was in some ways intuitive, in your case it involves careful observations, painstaking observations, and dealing with all sorts of math and data I can’t stand.
It means more, coming from you.

Please keep the accent as neutral as possible – many Australians react strongly (in a negative way) to an extreme USA accent, particularly those in the laté sipping left of the political spectrum. What you have done so far is good IMHO – no, better than good – great.
I am curiously waiting for The Lazy Teenager or R Gates et al to point us to some definitive sources of data that refute what you have said – I’m sure Anthony and mods will allow them to speak. Unlike SKS, Tamino, RC and all the rest that I no longer visit because I was abused or black-holed for asking simple questions. Where are you guys? We are all waiting!

I’ve presented exactly what the HADISST data and the CMIP3 multi-model mean show for those two regions.

Zoot, as I stated above I have converted Bob’s book from PDF to MOBI for my Kindle and it is readable – but it could be better. Whilst I’ve tried to see if Calibre will allow some editing it seems to only allow editing of metadata not the body of the book or article.
Do you have any advice on how this can be achieved – if it’s not too onerous I may be able to spend some time on Bob’s book to see if I can make it acceptable for the Kindle which should widen the audience as it were.

Masterpiece. Wouldn’t know where to begin to look for a way to improve it. The clarification Lucy suggested explaining “ENSO” came to mind, but that’s not serious. (General rule, tho’: watch out for taking acronyms for granted; they are taken as arrogant opacity by those not in your particular “loop” if not expanded the first time or two they’re used. In every presentation or article.)

I’m not able to go into specifics as i have not purchased a copy of Bob’s latest opus as I was kinda hoping for a kindle / mobi version ( and here we are at the point ;)) but when I have tackled pdf conversion before it’s been a bit trial and error ( I’m usually changing from mobi to epub to LIT or variations thereof ) and edit the original in either word or adobe acrobat professional depending upon the format & the permissions.
Like you I’d be happy to help with a commercial conversion ( gratis of course ) to mobi & epub formats but it would depend upon having an unprotected PDF to work from otherwise it’s just a whole heap of copy & paste work.
But really that’s my thing, copy, paste & format. Calibre just creates the final book from that, there is little you can do with it regarding editing. Much of what needs to be done is by understanding the structure detection of Calibre & creating ( reformatting) the work so that the results are readable.
It can be a lot of work and when it’s for a piece that you are only going to read yourself then you will put up with ‘readable’. For commercial redistribution there is a bit of work involved if the heuristic conversion is not up to scratch and i don’t know of a way to edit it after the fact so getting it right in the edit before conversion is the only way I know how, but it can be done in an evening over a couple of beers. I don’t have to proof-read, right? 😉
Zoot, thanks for responding. I bought Bob’s book and therefore have the PDF. I have converted this to the MOBI format and sent to my Kindle, the result is readable but far from perfect. Gaps every two lines etc. I can’t see a method in Calibre of editing the MOBI file direct, the ereader within Calibre doesn’t seem to allow editing. Currently I’m playing around with converting to HTMLZ which is a zipped file containing an Index.html file, CSS file and Images folder.
I’ve opened the index.html file in a word processor (Libre Office) and can edit from that. The problem as I see it is whilst I can change this file I have no idea what it would look like when converted to MOBI onto my Kindle again! From your description there is quite a bit of trial and error which I’m happy with but it seems inefficient if others have already passed down this road and can point me in the right direction as it were.

I’m a process control engineer and have spent many years developing controls solutions to many processes and naturally, I am skeptical of any science claims made by anyone. And this is because I love science. By the way, your site has become my favorite site for reading entertaining and cogent arguments which lead to the truth as best we can know it. Thanks David, as you may have seen in my additional posts I’m trying to determine how to optimise a MOBI output from Bob’s book. The problem I have is that editing any format other than MOBI leaves me finding it is still faulty when converting into MOBI.
