'…we need a conspiracy to save humanity'

I posted this on the Daily Lew Issue 5 as an update, but I decided it was so telling of the state of mind for the SkS crowd that it needed its own separate post. This also happens to be post 7000 on WUWT.

I had pretty much ignored the SkS forum dump when it was happening, thinking that perhaps they were being treated unfairly, but since John Cook has gone a bridge too far now with this Lewandowsky “moon landing survey” mess and his association with it, I no longer feel the need to hold back on what is going on behind the scenes over there.

Here is Glenn Tamblyn (Skeptical Science author/moderator) secretly conversing with his SkS pals on their off limits forum and saying “we need a conspiracy to save humanity”. The Viet Cong comparison is a nice touch too. There’s talk of convening a “war council” too.

And this isn’t about science or personal careers and reputations any more. This is a fight for survival. Our civilisations survival. .. We need our own anonymous (or not so anonymous) donors, our own think tanks…. Our Monckton’s … Our assassins.

Anyone got Bill Gates’ private number, Warren Buffett, Richard Branson? Our ‘side’ has got to get professional, ASAP. We don’t need to blog. We need to network. Every single blog, organisation, movement is like a platoon in an army. ..This has a lot of similarities to the Vietnam War….And the skeptics are the Viet Cong… Not fighting like ‘Gentlemen’ at all. And the mainstream guys like Gleick don’t know how to deal with this. Queensberry Rules rather than biting and gouging.

..So, either Mother Nature deigns to give the world a terrifying wake up call. Or people like us have to build the greatest guerilla force in human history. Now. Because time is up…Someone needs to convene a council of war of the major environmental movements, blogs, institutes etc. In a smoke filled room (OK, an incense filled room) we need a conspiracy to save humanity.

[As quoted by Geoff Chambers in this Bishop Hill thread. http://www.bishop-hill.net/blog/2012/3/26/opengate-josh-158.html?currentPage=2#comments ]

Yet climate skeptics are being painted as conspiracy theory nutters by the very same people who say “a conspiracy to save humanity” is needed.

Gleick was fighting with “Queensberry Rules” when he assumed a fake identity and stole documents from Heartland?

Riiiight.

===========================================================

For the excitable people that get upset about such things as this post, it is worth pointing out that the SkS “secret” forum was left wide open, and Cook blames himself No hack or ‘Gleick Queensberryness’ was needed, also from BH by poster David who captured this SkS announcement on 23 February 2012 by Cook himself:

Got an email from Brian P this morning saying that the whole forum was publicly available to him, even when he wasn’t logged in. I checked and this was true.A little panicky, I investigated and worked out that all the permission levels of each forum had been set down to zero. Normally, they’re set so only authors can access most of them, except the translator forum is also accessible to translators. Strangely though, there is an admin forum that only admins can access and that wasn’t set to zero – it was still set so only admins can access it.

I have no idea how this happened. Several possibilities come to mind. First, I did it by accident when I was screwing around with the database sometime. Someone with admin access (there are about half a dozen SkSers with this access) made the change. Or we were hacked in some way and the hacker changed the levels. None of the options seem likely to me but the most likely is human error on my part although the fact that the admin forum was still set at admin level belies some kind of blanket wiping of all levels.

So I’m a little freaked out – it’s not knowing how this happened that has me most worried. Has anyone been looking at the forum and how long has this been available? But I’ve been procrastinating some of those security measures that have been suggested to me and as soon as I get to work this morning, am going to implement some of those measures.

UPDATE: It gets worse.

Steve McIntyre points out the wholesale deletion of over 50 of Tom Fuller’s comments at Lewandowsky’s blog today (after they had been in place for days) and made this comment:

Steve McIntyre:  Posted Sep 15, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Re: Iain McQueen (Sep 15 13:28),

In the secret SkS forum, a member of the SkS squadron stated that “McIntyre must go down”. In another post, another SkS squadron member fantasized about ripping out Watts’ throat as follows:

Sometimes you just want to let loose and scream about how you want to take those motherfucking arseholes, those closed-minded bigotted genocidal pieces of regurgitated dog shit and do unspeakable violence to their bodies and souls for what they are doing to the safety of what and who we all hold dear. (Ain’t a lack of a moderation policy a cleansing and liberating thing?)…

Work out what you are best suited too and do that. But be able to distance yourself enough from your personal reactions to also see the bigger picture of the entire war and contribute to framing that broad campaign – “We need to focus on this and this and this. But my personal contribution will be to ripe Anthony Watts’ throat out – metaphorically of course.”

Such nice people, those SkS authors, contributors, and moderators.

Interesting rhetoric they’re using. Not surprising though. I find the comparison with the Vietnam War utterly amusing, since it shows how little these people actually know. Yes, the Vietcong received a massive thrashing during the Tet offensive, but then North Vietnam joined the fight and ultimately, even though the US practically didn’t even lost a single battle, the US had to pull out with an uneasy truce. A few years after that North Vietnam and what was left of the VC won the war by conquering South Vietnam.
Not to mention that Al Gore makes an amazing Richard Nixon.
It also shows the difference. We want facts and evidence, they want a guerilla force. It fits perfectly into some of the commercials these folks have been running in the past. I vividly remember the one where skeptics were exploded, including children.
This was never about science from their side. This was always about ideology. Now they’re realizing that their media war isn’t working anymore and that more and more people doubt them, so that means a slow move from argumentation and discussion (which wasn’t their strength to begin with, and I have an issue with calling their incoherent, highly emotional, often bordering the hysterical screaming “argumentation” or “discussion”) towards violence. Just wait, it’ll happen. Why do I know that? Because it always goes that way. History proves it 100%.

They sound just like religious fundamentalists. They are saving us from Evil!
“And the skeptics are the Viet Cong”
“people like us have to build the greatest guerilla force in human history”
I see their knowledge of the Vietnam war is on par with their knowledge of science

This is a joke, right?
They’re scientists with no axe to grind simply going where the data leads them. It’s not personal, it’s logic. So this is a denier ticking all the conspiracy boxes on the survey to make warmists look bad. It must be, because they wouldn’t stoop to the depths they accuse deniers of.
This isn’t some rabid off-the-scale warmist whom they can claim is not representing their viewpoint correctly. This is the core, the heartland (sic) of warmists, the moderator of the place where they go to talk. In short, a valid representative of how warmists talk when they think they’re not being watched. It’s scary to think that this line of thought underpins The Consensus Project.
Or will they simply claim that none of this “matters”?

I would like to pass comment – but it would be extremely rude and straight to the point………so, I’ll keep it relatively ‘clean’…..
These people are more foul and irritating than the dogmuck one gets on ones shoes from the street. However, I maybe doing dogmuck a severe disservice, at least it can be washed and cleaned away. The likes of the pervasive excrement and foul malodorous discontent from these idiots seems ever present. Once one has been touched by their contamination, one can never be cleaned. Further, it seems to seep through every and any orifice that the alarmist based climate science ‘outputs’ can muster, providing an ever present backdrop of distressing sensory overload.
to paraphrase a well known character – ‘The stench of corruption is strong………may the disinfectant be with you…’

What they really need to beat us is some data that supports their argument. Nothing more, nothing less. Glenn Tamblyn ran away when confronted. Now they have to engage in “guerilla tactics”? Cowardice and cognitive dissonance; It’s what’s for dinner.

September 15, 2012 1:02 pm

Well Anthony I feel honored to have angered some of the same people who seem obsessed with you and this site. I’d never heard of them and if you are going to accuse others of pushing conspiracy theories you really should spell “conspiracy” with the ‘n’ in it. I had left a post at jo’s explaining what it means to be a social/developmental psychologist. That you are pushing the old Marxist socio-cultural interactions theories instead of basing it on actual individual thinking and what reenforces or distorts it.
So the purpose of a theory in Lew world is to get it implemented in real classrooms or campuses to see the effects on belief system. Research-based in Orwellian ed world means the classroom is the alpha testing. Put up a link to this post http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/we-need-a-radical-change-in-our-mode-of-consciousness-even-a-new-sense-of-being-human/ that contains a quote from one of the primary deep ecologists, Thomas Berry, whose work is unfortunately becoming very influential in what is coming to K-12 classrooms to alter belief systems while students are too young to know better and their brains are physically still quite malleable.
So a watching the deniers commenter decided I must be the ultimate conspiracy theorist on the thread.
Hint: It’s not a theory if you quote open declarations of intent. Plus they are conspiring to get government money and special favors and affect the other side’s ability to get accurate info. That’s just classic Rent Seeking. Fools.

September 15, 2012 1:03 pm

Those of you out there who are not skeptics: if the evidence was so strong in favor of CAGW, why would the “believers” need to stoop to such nonsence?
Ask yourself, “When did this all start and who started it? Who started it and what did they have to gain?”
The “evidence” that what is going on with the weather (or climate) is Man’s fault is so weak. The “evidence” that Man can do anything to control the weather is even weaker.
But they need you to continue to believe them and vote to support their nonsense.
Again, ask yourself, “When did this all start and who started it? Who started it and what did they have to gain?”

September 15, 2012 1:06 pm

They sound just like religious fundamentalists.

DING, DING, DING! We have a winner! I noticed that a few years back. And their behavior when they experience a differing opinion is exactly like fundamentalists of any sort, too.

September 15, 2012 1:09 pm

To save humanity? How much of humanity will need to be purged, reeducated, and relocated in order to “save” humanity? How much Truth will be dubbed “counter-revolutionary,” and be deleted, and how much false propaganda will be embraced as “necessary evil,” and become dogma?
These fellows use the word “humanity” without much understanding of the word “humane.”

This kind of military stuff is all very childish. He clearly never quite got over playing with toy soldiers when he was a kid. It shows desperation because they are losing the rational scientific debate.
They have forgotten what science is if they ever really knew. Perhaps a good explanation of science is that made by one of the most brilliant and more importantly, creative scientists of the 20th century:
“…….a way of avoiding the disease ( of all types of prejudices, and strange and odd beliefs) was discovered. This is to doubt that what is being passed from the past is in fact true, and to try to find out ab initio again from experience what the situation is, rather than trusting the experience of the past in the form in which it is passed down.
“And that is what science is: the result of the discovery that it is worthwhile rechecking by new direct experience, and not necessarily trusting the experience from the past. I see it that way. That is my best definition………
“It should not be “science has shown” but “this experiment, this effect, has shown.” And you have as much right as anyone else, upon hearing about the experiments–but be patient and listen to all the evidence–to judge whether a sensible conclusion has been arrived at.”
Feynman of course.
When Glenn Tamblin and his kiddy pals want to play soldiers and write silly things like “..this isn’t about science…” they should be reminded that it is only about science and the evolution of human knowledge and understanding.
They are “…dogmatists, categorists, absolutists, “know-alls”; they must be fanatics, intolerant; when they meet others of their kind, a fight must follow, etc. They do not want to think, they are not interested to investigate, for why should they? They “know it all,” they are self-satisfied in their ignorance, they “know” that they “know all,” which is all there is to know about it.
“They will persecute others who think. For them thinking and science are crimes, or, at best, unnecessary waste of time; and, if forced to think, it is a serious pain to them. They take everything for granted, critical thought and the spirit of inquiry is entirely foreign to their makeup.”
Alfred Korzybski writing about Time-Binding.

There is a conspiracy to save humanity. It is found on skeptic blogs and other sites, where we fight daily to save fellow humans from the gullibility that arises from ignorance, to save them from those who believe they must be the leaders of the inherently stupid human species.
And we do it all while appearing to be just discussing the weather. Especially when all we are doing is discussing the weather.
It’s no wonder they think we are all insidious and deceitful. Why should we be any different than they?

A failed third-rate artist made quite a run to ruling the world, why not a cartoonist leading the charge? Hmm.. I wonder what they would put Lew in charge of. The Cognitive Dissonnace Ministry? There was strong admonition by kind and fair-minded real skeptics for those who took the “k” out of SkS. What can you do when they do this to themselves?
Its an evolution. Probably Cook was a decent misguided fellow at the outset but his stuff attracted a following of rabid dogs and transformed his original, reasonably benign, efforts on behalf of the planet savers. This is apparently what is happening in Syria and Egypt. Trouble spots attract the doctrinaire nihilist who ultimately get the original freedom-seekers to morph into rabid dogs, too. You see this in student and other protests where a fairly nice crowd of naive idealists get morphed by paid political and activist rabble rousers into something that even shocks them. There isn’t much new to learn in the field of hijacked agendas and crowd incitement. I guess the post normal word for it is The Consensus. I can see such a tribe of tyrants written into some star wars type extravaganza.

Excerpt from Glenn Tamblyn’s touching letter to Phil Jones:
“Many disciplines in science advance human knowledge; few disciplines of science are trying to make such a profound contribution to actual human wellbeing at this moment in history as climate science.
The threat of climate change is arousing some very primal and often very dark emotional forces. Never doubt that what you and your colleagues are engaged in is valued, deeply and profoundly, today and into the future. The words of the cowards who have threatened you will vanish into history’s dustbin where they belong.
We at Skeptical Science are trying, as best we are able, to bring reasoned analysis to this discussion. We cannot be there when the next hateful letter appears. But as far as is possible, you have our support – if there is anything we can do, just ask.

I can’t speak for others, but seeing posts like this reminds me why WUWT is my #1 blog for all things climate related (love climateaudit.org, but the posting frequency there is a lot lower — have to wait a long time for new stuff [ but oh so worth waiting for]).
Anthony & company run a forum which is open to all but moderated to maintain a standard of decorum and civility which is sadly lacking in today’s world. Just because you can use foul language does not mean that you should, or that the effectiveness of your argument is in any way augmented. Only the incompetent need profanity to make a point.
As near as I can make out, some people on the SkS private forum are advocating a “Cultural Revolution” for climate justice. That worked out so well the last time.

September 15, 2012 3:26 pm

Anthony: I need a GUIDE to these people.
Who are they? Who doe they work for? Who funds them? Are they like us, dilettantes, (yes, a lot of WUWT readers are “climate/weather dilettantes, but I suspect, many are like me…BS ChemE, BS Materials Science, MS Mechanical, 2 – PE Certs, Tech School M.I.S. diploma…no blessed Phd, too much time spend “earning a living” and “feeding my family) or are the “professionals”?
I’d like to share this with some people who are “open to being educated”. It really would not have the proper IMPACT on them (in terms of the significance of the childishness and emotional instability of these folks) unless I give them a Curiculum Vita for the people cited.
I think the MYTH that needs to be shattered is TWO FOLD:
1. Getting a Phd in the “Sciences” means you are a “rational” person. (Complete nonsense…it means you jumped through the right hoops, and played the system right…plus a modicum of intelligence, not necessarily an inordinately HIGH amount of same, nor, alas..is there any assurance of the ability to think beyond the narrow paradigm you have been trained in.)
2. Having a “position” with an “instituation” assures you are a rational person.
Just look at the bio-med researchers who have been exposed as TOTAL FRAUDS in the last 20 years. This was not unconnected with the Internet making it easier to “cross check” all matters of information. Informaiton which …in an “information sparse” society, i.e. prior to about 1998…was difficult to cross check. Anthony as YOU well know, you are part of that information vitality these days which makes it harder and harder for “figures to lie” and “liars to figure”.
Thanks!

George Marshall founded RisingTide – and gave us the very first Deniers – Hall of Shame – With Bjorn Lomborg in it, and his old favourite evil corporations, had been fighting them in rainforests for 20 years)
And George is currently founder of COIN and working with psychologists in the UK, Cardiff, Nottingham, UWE in the field of eco-psycology, ….. google his video ‘How to Talk to a Climate Denier’
DR Adam Corner (Guardian contributor, Cardiff Uni, isGeorge’s policy advisor) Adam wrote a little artcile about sceptics being like conspiracy theorists, after someone called Lewandowsky sent him a copy of his new paper (a month before the pre-release) a very small green social network that is toatlly insular, anytime they meet an angry sceptic, all their pre-conceptions are fullfilled.
So what you might say..
Well his blog http://www.climatedenial.org, was listed on Realclimate in the very early days of the website. and when Mike Mann wanted to contact Monbiot, George Marshall gave Mann, George Monbiots email address. George also seem to have started the whole field of eco-psychology, and the themes of that article, resonate to this day.. (google George Marshall and the Guardian)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/search?q=%22george+Marshall%22&section=environment
Alarmed scientists working with alarmed environmentalists closely for decades, classic groupthink potential… scared and angry about losing to sceptics, when in fact the real world is just catching up (economy & politics, sceptics largely irrelevant)
Sceptics need to understand these guys, they really believe (like Hansen)

Think J.P. has got wind of WUWT’s Confidential-Contrarian room funded by BIG Oil?
Just in case, time to change the pwd for 67.215.65.132:514 from “Thorla-McKee”.

Ha ha. Ha. It should be clear to anyone that Googles it that the address is worthless, due to the disinformation about that address strewn long ago and actively maintained, no one will believe that’s it.
Besides, the site specifically “exploits” a never-fixed security vulnerability unique to Win 98 SE to make the connection, that’s in the original OS and can’t be emulated, so it can initiate the silent auto-wipe of the connected machine the microsecond it detects an eavesdropper. No one runs that anymore, nor bothers to keep it on a separate partition. You have to be given the configuration file to run it in a virtual machine over Linux, and then only Gentoo. Plus the coding is so old that no browser from this century will render it readable let alone usable. Optimized for Netscape 3.4?
Don’t worry, it’s as safe and secure as it ever was. Security through obscurity. No one can see it if they don’t know how to see it, and they neither have nor can obtain the tools needed even if they knew how.
Plus the risk of a silent auto-wipe keeps them from trying. I did mention the silent auto-wipe possibility from running such an open unprotected system, yes?

So let’s get this right then. The broad and loose sweep of Vietnam is that we went to war after the gin up on the Gulf of Tonkin and then attempted to fight a vast, grassroots, set of irregulars by attempting to win their hearts and minds.
Same same of late with Climate in the screech of the PNS offensive of unwashed blogsters and the need to win by better messaging. And despite that the historical irregulars prevailed, and that we’re up to our eyeballs in gin ups already, the answer is? Needs more Tonkin.
I can just see Christopher Walken tossing that one out while sporting paddy sandals.

Why do they need their own anonymous donors? Try finding out who’s paying the bills on their blogs. Or, better yet, see what they go through to hide sources on some CAGW blogs – such as Tamino’s Open Mind asking to place your donations to “Peaceblossom’s Closet”.
And why do need their own Monckton? We’re willing to let them use ours whenever they want.
They might learn something if they listen, and keep an open mind.
BTW, Anthony, when will the link to Lew’s world be added to the blogroll, right there under the unreliable banner along with Skeptical Science – since it’s been proven that John Cook runs the show?
Just the past few days show they deserve the unreliable banner “…Due to (1) deletion, extension and amending of user comments, and (2) undated post-publication revisions of article contents after significant user commenting…”

On the really believe part there is an element here of pantheistic nature worship that lies just below the surface. It is very dominant in the systems thinking, deep ecology, and Environmental Justice parts of the movement. I have written before about something called BEST-Bronfenbrenner Ecological Systems Thinking. People are merely another species and our human ingenuity needs to be eliminated or controlled to stop the domination of nature. Hint: Gut via Constructivism in education. Species are another part of Nature. Economies are situated within Society. And societies are situated within the physical environment. So the physical environment is paramount.http://virtual.yosemite.cc.ca.us/childdevelopment/Cheryl/Sp10/EcologicalHandout.pdf is a link to what BEST sees the world as. Lew lives in a BEST world.
But it’s not reality. It’s an updated view of Marxist political theory. It exists to try to change reality. By coming up with his poor article and survey Lew tried to once again make criticism of Marxist political theory ethically unacceptable. Kick in the herd instinct. Lew is just a 21st century Lysenko pushing whatever “science” the powers that be will fund and desire.
Reminds me of the Sokal Hoax all over again. Must take out the hard sciences.

September 15, 2012 4:39 pm

Blame originally falls on Gaia if truth be told.
Gaia , the goddess of earth, feeling sultry hooks up with Uranus, the god of sky to beget Cronus, the god of time. Cronus takes an appropriate technology scythe to Uranus; who drips some blood into the sea which becomes the 3 perpetually vengeful Furies, half-sisters of Cronus.
Rhea hooks up with Cronus to beget 7 offspring, who form a gang with 5 other gods to become the original 12 Olympians. But a guest blog prophecy convinces Cronus to eat his own spawn to avoid payback .
Lacking government provided contraception Rhea’s extra-marital affair brings Zeus into the world. By some dumb fluke Rhea manages to get Cronus so drunk he eats a rock wrapped in a blanket instead of Zeus, who Rhea hid in Hawaii.
Zeus gets a liberal education & finally overwhelms Cronus. Forced by Zeus to comply with the Freedom of Information Act Cronus spews back all those eaten offspring & apparently also CO2.
Jupiter is one of the son’s of Cronus that got released back out to play god. However actions have consequences and Leif Svalgaard let the secret out at 9:12 am Sept. 15, 2012 about WhatsUpWithThat, disclosing: “Glaciations are due to changing orbital elements [and axial tilt] of the Earth [cause by gravitational perturbations mainly by Jupiter]….”
So if that slut Gaia had an abortion, instead of Cronus, we wouldn’t have climate change to begin with. Don’t fall for the Furies line it’s all about the CO2 baffed up along with Jupiter, because the conspiratory Furies know without Cronus they’d be nowhere.

J. Philip Peterson says:September 15, 2012 at 1:15 pm ”Are we not all for openness and transparency?”
Wishful thinking Petersen. Warmist blogs are for: GLOBAL warming in 100y, at any cost. Laundromat for brainwashing. 2] ”Skeptic’s” blogs are for: keep presenting past ”LOCALIZED” warmings / localized glaciations, as GLOBAL – to prove with their past phony GLOBAL warmings; that is not going to be global warming in 100years = same laundromat for brainwashing.
Both camps confuse big / small climatic changes as increasing / decreasing in GLOBAL temp. Same crap presented in different wrappings. Global temp ”overall” doesn’t go up and down as a yo-yo, But for the fanatics from both camps is irrelevant. The circus must go on. Innocent taxpayer is getting ripped-off for billions of$$, because of ”closed parashoot brains, by both sides of the sandpit. When the truth is known by the public, psychiatrist will get rich.
When you go from Florida to the west-coast, or from Brisbane west to Geraldton – in a week you will encounter 20-30 different climates. Did in that week happened 15 GLOBAL warmings and another 15 GLOBAL coolings?! If the ”active commenters” cannot see why are different climates instead of pining them on galactic dust, sunspots, UV, CO2 – instead of regular availability of H2O on lands – he / she has being indoctrinated in blind fanaticism. Big climatic changes are caused by ‘localized warmings / coolings” normal natural phenomena – GLOBAL warmings are a ”phenomenal” lies. Same galactic dust, same sunspots affect Brazil and Sahara – but have completely different climates = trees have bigger IQ / intelligence, than people indoctrinated that sunspots /UV and galactic dust control climate – trees know which climate is better. Around Kyoto city is 500% more CO2, than in Sahara, but Kyoto has beautiful climate – what Sahara doesn’t have; is a taboo to both fanatic camps, tragic… Warmist believe 90% possibility of global warming in 100years – ”Skeptics” believe 101% in the imaginary / phony GLOBAL warmings. Half of the ”pretend Skeptics” are Warmist, under false pretense. Warmist are riding on the ”pretend Skeptics” backs. Warmist cannot have one legitimate proof; because is no such a thing as ”GLOBAL warming” but the Fake Skeptics are Warmist’s geldings. The truth is not palatable to both camps, but truth always wins on the end – time is against fanatics.

Friends:
Please do not lose sight of the important fact; i.e.
the AGW-scaremongers know they have lost.
In private they discuss their desperation and consider what else they could do to fulfil their nefarious objectives.
We stuck to empirical science and proclaimed it whenever, wherever and however we could.
They ran from debate and resorted to every kind of dirty trick both legal and illegal.
But the AGW-scare was never really about the science. Decades of research and tens of billions of US$ have failed to find any evidence of any kind to support the scare. If it were about the science then it would have been dismissed and forgotten long ago.
From the start the scare was mostly about the politics. And at Copenhagen in 2009 the politicians decided they could not get the economic policies they wanted from it. So it will slowly fade away: a politician cannot do a U-turn but backs-away from an issue that has been abandoned.
The scaremongers were far, far too sure of themselves. (un)RelaClimate was their main web site until its moderation policy was so blatant that it discredited itself. Himalayagate caused any except ‘true believers’ in the scare to question the nature of the IPCC.
Our priority now need to be to guard against regulations and laws which would solidify problems of the scare after the scare is forgotten. That requires us to keep stating the science and exposing the malpractices of the scaremongers.
So, we need to keep doing what we have been doing. Importantly, we need to sustain our attempts to ‘clean the stables’ of science from the muck which this affair has created.

Just as part of my bio, I was at the first earth day at Fairmount Park in Philadelphia 1970. U.S. Senator Edmund Muskie was the keynote speaker on Earth Day in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. Other notable attendees included consumer protection activist and presidential candidate Ralph Nader; Landscape Architect Ian McHarg; Nobel prize-winning Harvard Biochemist, George Wald; U.S. Senate Minority Leader, Hugh Scott; and poet, Allen Ginsberg*. I listened to all these speakers. I consider myself an environmentalist. I believe in clean air, clean water, clean everything etc. The EPA is now out of control. I resent being lumped in with the conspiracy theory people in the original survey. I don’t believe in any of them. I saw Lee Harvey Oswald being shot on live TV and still believe that he was the lone nut who did it. I was accused recently of being a 911 truther from a longtime friend of mine (with a PHD in computer science) who sent me the SKS website to refute my skeptical beliefs. This latest post really was an eye opener for me.

All this talk about “secret” forums got to me think about the Pentaverate. The Pentaverate, run by the 5 wealthiest people in the world, control everything in the world. They are the ones keeping climate change legislation down. If humanity broke from the yoke of the Pentaverate and implemented measures to prevent climate change, they would lose all their money and influence.
Of course, I’m not serious but I am referring to the movie So I Married An Axe Murderer.

Even though I’m joking, I wouldn’t be surprised if the “team” actually believed some conspiracy theory that is similar to the one joked about in that movie. Every time I think of Lewandowsky, I’m going to think of the Pentaverate, followed quickly by “HEAD PANTS NOW!” (If you watched the movie, you’ll immediately get the reference.) I’m going to watch So I Married An Axe Murderer now.

Our ‘side’ has got to get professional, ASAP. We don’t need to blog.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dear SkS and Co.
1. Yes, your “side” absolutely DOES need to get professional. You’ve tried every tactic imaginable EXCEPT being professional. You have discredited yourselves. All blogs like CA and WUWT have done is expose your deceipt, misrepresentation of the facts, suppresion of evidence embarrasing to your cause and fabrication of evidence to support your cause. I urge you, for the sake of humanity, to conduct yourselves professionaly.
2. Yes you do need to blog. You need to do so in a professional manner. Your own blogs have failed for the exact reason that you have not been professional. Being professional by the way, means accepting that when you lack the facts, evidence, and logical conclusions to support your position, you accept, both publicly and privately, that you may be wrong.
So you have it half right. But more importantly, you must also come to the realization that you may in fact be wrong about the science. Is your frustration related to your inability to promote your agenda? Or your inability to justify your agenda because is simply is not founded upon science?
Do you want to metaphorically “ripe” our throats out? Or address the facts that are presented to you? If your “side” had proper science to present, one would think that there would be no need to resort to the lack of professionalism and underhanded tactics that your “side” seems so fond of. You don’t need your own Monckton or your own WUWT as much as you need to engage on the science in an honest dialogue, and when your “side” fails to present compelling scientific evidence in support of your position, to accept that you’ve been advocating for a position that the science itself does not support.
Lastly, you need to face the grim reality that the actions proposed to reduce CO2 emissions are as dangerous, perhaps more so, but far more certain, than the dangers you purport to protect humanity from. Sending us back to a zero emissions society, despite your fantasies about wind and water power, is a dream, but the type of dream most accurately referred to as “your worst nightmare”. You propose a cure without consideration, or even an understanding of the consequences, for an ill you cannot provide evidence even exists.
Professionalism indeed. I couldn’t encourage you more in that regard.

September 15, 2012 5:45 pm

richard-until scientists and taxpayers and parents understand what Constructivism is, how modelling is simply a new term for it Jere Confrey came up to mask it from the previous “wars”, and that it is the essence of both K-12 and higher ed going forward under the enforcement powers of the accreditation agencies, it will not be over.
We will be declaring it over while it is going viral through the next generation of voters. I wrote this post today http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/develop-learners-who-think-and-behave-and-view-themselves-as-systems-citizens/. Twelve to 16 years to create a mindset that has no clue what the truth or reality are. Mostly being put in place by people being paid by the taxpayer. And it’s worse in other countries as Gore’s loss in 2000 pulled the US off the UNESCO inspired track. We are fast catching up though. There is no hard scientific knowledge left in this vision for educational institutions.
This will be an epic tragedy we funded unless we wake up quickly as to what is being done in our educational institutions, K-12 and higher ed all over the world, in the name of Sustainability.
Or Gaia herself as quite of a few of the educators acknowledge.

Back when John Cook’s squadrons*** of non-skepticians started to become extremely paranoid across the blogosphere about anyone using the traditional straight forward acronym SS for their blogsite, I suggested instead using $$ as an acronym given their uncritical support of all funding of IPCC and gov’t CAGW biased science. : )
Now when we have recently seen the secret forum dialogs; we see the cult-like musings of John Cook’s squadron*** of non-skepticians; so now we can understand emotionally their sensitivity to the acronym SS . . . . their dialogs are emotionally similar to the spooky creepy feeling you get from some of those low budget grade B WWII movies.
Now that we see the core of what they are focused on, I suggest a new name for the Skeptical Science site => Conspiracy Paranoiaville. : )

I just find this whole thing sad. All I have ever wanted is a true debate by people with the uncorrupted data that I could watch and participate in as I am able so that the ground truth could be discerned. That includes, at the end of the day, the possibility that we very well may not have the right data, or we have been asking the wrong questions, and really don’t know anything at all. Good science goes where the experimental results guided by theoretical work lead. Conclusions developed a priori to experimental testing are just guesses that can be as ill-informed as the opinions of the guy on the next bar stool on a Saturday night at the corner pub. I wish these folks would quit being “true believers” and become scientists, but alas, magic isn’t real either.

I guess “not fighting like gentleman at all” is a euphemism that were’re not using PNS to justify our efforts. Wow!
Well, I got a little hint for these would-be criminals: A real down-and-dirty fight is something they couldn’t do if their lives depended on it; they have a hard time getting beyond walking distance of a Starbucks.
I’m betting not a single one of ’em has had any military training; I’m betting not a single one of ’em knows how to wear camo, I’m betting none could drop a bull elk at 500 yards; and I’m pretty sure none of ’em even owns a gun.
So what to do with all their bluster? We can laugh–I haven’t laughed this hard in months and I’ve had some good laughs at their expense in this “Lew’d Series”. We can ignore them, but like children they just get noisier and more obnoxious when ignored. Or we can continue to destroy their “arguments” the way we’ve been doing (mostly it’s been Anthony and his own little army of shrewd, wise old owls for whom I’m very grateful).
But here’s a warming, er… warning!–you guys lay a finger on our MVP’s and there will be hell to pay. Comprendi?

The reality is that the vast majority of “lay” people who think CAGW is real do not read WUWT and have no idea at all that these sorts of things go on–and I’m talking about most of my colleagues. They never hear a discouraging word so they assume no discouraging words are being said, and the science is therefore clearly settled. You can’t talk to them…at least I can’t, anyway. They refuse to believe it, period. Will they come here to educate themselves? Of course not, because they know they’re right and I’m just a right-wing nutjob whose ideology causes me to ignore facts when they’re staring me in the face partisan hack…fill in the blanks with your favorite insult. They will never never read about this.

“Sometimes you just want to let loose and scream about how you want to take those motherfucking arseholes, those closed-minded bigotted genocidal pieces of regurgitated dog shit and do unspeakable violence to their bodies and souls”
This is not mere venting! It’s hate speech and probably constitutes assault. Assault = threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm. Imagine the justifiable outrage if such language were directed at any ethnic group, or even a political party.
When I read these sorts of statements I want to hunt down the bastard who wrote them and … And, this is exactly why we have laws against statements like that. The normal response to threats of violence, is threats of violence, and threats often leads to real violence. SkS and others need to be reminded that these sorts of statements are illegal, for good reason. They need to learn to restrain themselves from making such statements, or society needs to do it for them.
I strongly recommend turning this evidence over to the FBI. Assault is also a tort so it’s open to civil action. That Forum, and potentially the entire website, should be closed down. The more these sorts of people are allowed to mutter and scream to each other the more likely they are to start acting out.
I think civic duty requires anyone with knowledge of such events to report them.

I would like to agree with you, but the West’s politicians remain very much in the pockets of the CAGW extremists and continue to be shielded from a broader view of reality.
We are still very much on a course to economic disaster in the UK and other Western economies as they continue to build pointless windmills and unfairly subsidise domestic solar power (the poor subsidising the rich).
Only 3 of the 650 (ish) UK members of parliament voted against the economically disastrous co2 reduction bill and until we get a sea change in attitudes amongst politicians then the CAGW fanatics cannot be said to have lost.
And so, much as I hate the cold, I find myself almost looking forward to the arrival of the long predicted (1983 Landscheidt) cold spell, which may provide the catalyst to opening the eyes and minds of some of our all too easily brainwashed politicians.
Currently the CAGW brigade tell us that climate models show that there can be pauses in a warming trend, something which does not appear to be true as they weren’t saying this 15 years ago and their graphs also showed no such thing. I note that they say that temperatures will return to climbing ever more steeply sometime soon, but again they don’t say when and again they don’t show us any output (graphs) from their treasured climate models predicting this.
Should temperatures fall sharply as expected over the coming 20+ years I wonder how the exponents of co2 induced CAGW will explain that. No doubt they will once again say that Global Warming Climate Models predicted this but yet again they will provide no evidence for such a statement.
The question is, how much longer will our gullible politicians continue to be fooled by the preaching of the high priests of co2 alarmism, when will they start to question the lack of evidence for this and the clear failure of the few predictions the co2 alarmists have made.
Much as I hate to say it: “Bring on the cold”.

We cannot assume that the government thugs who have been imposing economically devastating laws and regulations upon the citizenry of nations all over the industrialized world are doing this because they’re “gullible,” or even that they genuinely credit the “crippled conjecture” of CO2-driven man-made global warming.
Contrary to Hanlon’s Razor (“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”), in the wake of the 2009 Climategate revelations especially, every allegedly AGW-driven action undertaken by current incumbent politicians and bureaucrats anywhere in the world today – every policy, procedure, pronunciamento, regulatory imposition, subsidy, statute, or other parliamentary enactment in suppression of “carbon pollution” or in aid of the “renewable energy” boondoggles, and especially every tax they levy – must be considered a manifestation of willful and vicious malfeasance in public office.
These sonzabitches are far too practiced in the arts of “back-stabbing, cork-screwing, and dirty dealing” for any sort of witless manifestation of mere blithering idiocy to be credited.
Never lose focus on H.L. Mencken’s bitter but scathingly accurate observation almost a century ago:

…the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.

Mr Cook has his snout in the CAGW trough funded by the long suffering Taxpayers of the state of Queensland, Australia.
http://www.gci.uq.edu.au/AboutUs/OurStories/MrJohnCook.aspx
The newly elected Queensland Government has announced 14,000 job cuts for Public Service in a desperate attempt to bring spending in line with revenue, after over a decade of decadent spending by the Warmist loving, Labour Party. The former Government leader’s husband was on $600,000+ annual salary as the head of the climate change department.
Mr Cook is so rusted onto the hoax, he is liable to keep his position, while nurses, fireman and police lose their jobs over the excesses of the climate scam spending in Queensland.

the AGW-scaremongers know they have lost.
==========================================
It’s true that the discussion from the alarmist side has long ceased to be about science and has become mostly PR based.
But I also think the majority of those foot soldiers who comment at SkS do not really know that. They have never looked into the matter closely, in many cases because they don’t understand it. They have been thoroughly brainwashed by the massive flood of alarmism in the news for the last decade or so. The reason they act the way they do is that they are completely convinced they are on a mission to save the world from the ravages of CO2. Their behaviour makes sense only from that assumption. Feelings of heroism are extremely exhilarating, and if they perceive their mission as sufficiently noble, its accomplishment will override all ethical considerations. You need to keep in mind they view themselves as saviors. What mission can be more noble than saving the world?
The professional purveyors of this these ideas are probably not so innocent, but even they can easily find ways to justify their behavior. When your livelihood is on the line, ethical considerations become very elastic. Even if the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly on the side of skepticism, once these things get institutionalized, they are extremely hard to erradicate. This may well continue for decades. As climate change professor and professional alarmist Mike Hulme has so candidly said, climate change from their perspective is not primarily about science at all; he views it as an inexhaustible source of useful “narratives” to promote whatever you want. Paraphrasing Kennedy, Hulme writes quite casually: “The idea of climate change should be seen as an intellectual resource around which our collective and personal identities and projects can form and take shape. We need to ask not what we can do for climate change, but to ask what climate change can do for us.”

I wouldn’t pretend that their violent rhetoric is merely “metaphorical”. Look at the violence in those words. I’ve NEVER ever seen a skeptical (i.e. real & rational) scientist speak like that. That sort of violence is so far outside the bounds of normal discourse, you can only imagine that these folk put themselves to bed at night fantasizing about such things.
They label US genocidalists, and then go on to discuss how much violence they’d like to inflict on a very large fraction of humanity who are real scientists and see through their BS? Ummm…hello? Who are the real sadistic murderers here?
“…pieces of regurgitated dog sh*t…”
That’s well into the process of the dehumanizing rhetoric that leads to hatred and then self-justified genocide. It is hate speech, and it is bigotry. These people are a danger to society.

They are joined by an old-timer “Howard ” played by Walter Huston, the director’s father who accurately predicts trouble but willing goes along anyway …
The movie is notable as being one of the first Hollywood films to be filmed almost entirely on location outside the United States in the Mexican state of Durango with street scenes in Tampico, Mexico (although the night scenes were filmed back in the studio.)

So they didn’t like the “SS” acronym for their propagandist little blog site?
Well, let me tell you about the only thing that comes to my mind when I see the acronym “SkS”:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKS
“The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic rifle chambered for the 7.62x39mm round, designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. Its complete designation, SKS-45, is an acronym for Samozaryadnyj Karabin sistemy Simonova, 1945 (Russian: Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова, 1945; Self-loading Carbine of (the) Simonov system, 1945), or SKS 45. In the early 1950’s, the Soviets took the SKS carbine out of front-line service and replaced it with the AK-47; however, the SKS remained in second-line service for decades. It is still used as a ceremonial arm today. The SKS was widely exported, and was also produced by some former Eastern Bloc nations as well as China, where it was designated the “Type 56”, East Germany as the Karabiner S and in North Korea as the “Type 63″. The SKS is currently popular on the civilian surplus market in many countries, including the United States. It was one of the first weapons chambered for the 7.62x39mm M43 round, which was also used later in the AK-47.”
There are so many of these things in Canada, the US, and elsewhere, used by red-blooded civilians for target practice and good ol’ right-wing/libertarian/rational leftist/2nd Amendment fun…it would be too funny to see the shock & horror on their faces when they google “SKS” and get page after page of gun info.
The acronym for their pseudoscience site reminds most people of guns.

We see parallels in use of secret forums at JC’s conspiracy focussed Skeptical Science blog which is arguably the dominant supporter of the previous IPCC AR findings as well as supporter of the currently in progress AR5 preps.
It looks to me like the IPCC and the Skeptical  Science blog, as well all the FOIA blockers like Mann, have an intentional code of secrecy in publically funded science; that code has been what the public does recognize as the essentially fatal characteristic of CAGW biased research.
My thinking is that the IPCC decision to go with secret forums for the AR5 preparation processes was influenced by the scientists and blogs who where already widely known to have been successfully emulating the use of secrecy in public funded science; I think they where influenced by the likes of Mann and JC’s Skeptical Science.

Liberal politics and liberal media. Socialist democrat politics and socialist democrat media, working hand in hand to provide only the news and facts that fit their agenda. Environmental politics and environmental media, the same one sided fraud sharing the same resources.
This is the ugly, ‘do anything to win’ collaboration we stand against. The personal and professional assaults are directed at us in veiled and treacherous fashion as our opposition sees themselves as ‘saviours of the planet’, justified in using every feint and fraud necessary to achieve their god or gaian blessed mission.
Their bigoted hate speech reflects their own dark and self-abandoned souls.
How do we refute their viciousness? Look them unwaveringly in the eye. Speak directly to fact and truth, always with a boy scouts face. And keep a clenched fist under the hat in your hand, for that moment when their attacks transition from verbal to physical assault. ‘Be prepared.’

Maybe we’re looking at this all wrong. Maybe those who like the Lewpaper have let this out on purpose. Lew says we are all “conspiracy theorist”. We aren’t. So “they’ve” invented a conspiracy for us to believe in after he’s claimed we believe in conspiracy theories so that they can claim that his theory about us believing in conspiracy theories was true after all?…even though their conspiracy was after he claimed we believed in conspiracies.
(Sorry. All these conspiracies we believe in make me dizzy.)

At 10:31 AM on 16 September, Joe Postma had written:

So they didn’t like the “SS” acronym for their propagandist little blog site?
Well, let me tell you about the only thing that comes to my mind when I see the acronym “SkS”:

“The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic rifle chambered for the 7.62x39mm round, designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. Its complete designation, SKS-45, is an acronym for Samozaryadnyj Karabin sistemy Simonova, 1945 (Russian: Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова, 1945; Self-loading Carbine of (the) Simonov system, 1945), or SKS 45. In the early 1950′s, the Soviets took the SKS carbine out of front-line service and replaced it with the AK-47; however, the SKS remained in second-line service for decades. It is still used as a ceremonial arm today. The SKS was widely exported, and was also produced by some former Eastern Bloc nations as well as China, where it was designated the “Type 56″, East Germany as the Karabiner S and in North Korea as the “Type 63″.

Ah, so I’m not the only RTKBA advocate to have observed this happy happenstance.
Have any other frequenters of these fora given much consideration to the fact that those of us who approach social, economic, and political matters from the methodologically individualist (i.e., unalienable individual human rights) perspective tend not only to be skeptics anent the preposterous “man-made catastrophic climate change” boojum but also merry and enthusiastic hoplophiles?

I’m pretty sure the decision to use SkS for Skeptical Science was to lower the emotional tone (getting rid of the D-word etc) chosen voluntarily by sceptics. It wasn’t because any warmers complained.
The same way Steve at CA was recently persuaded to change the word “pogrom”. It just made sense not to allow comments to drift onto the use of words. It allows the Trolls to ruin the actual discussion.
I note that some of the commenters above don’t seem to realise that fighting their abuse with more abuse is a losing strategy. We need to stay classier than them.

Reading the ‘secret’ comments on the skeptical Science ‘secret forum’ was a bit like looking at work produced not by scientists but in a kindergarten. I do hope they have child safety gates on all their office doors (they seem to have left the electronic gates open). Perhaps we should throw a few dummies (soothers) their way as they appear upset.
Now they seem to have difficulty communicating with each other over email courtesy of Climategate so they evolved to ‘secret forums’ now they have ‘Kindergate’ perhaps they will advance to ‘sleepovers’ next.

Many have already noted Glenn Tamblyn’s poor understanding of the Vietnam War. I would like to add that I consider the entire concept of comparing the debate about climate change to a war is interesting, and not in a healthy way.
First I would like to direct readers attention to a letter to the editor by a young Naval officer in last month’s USNI Proceedings:
http://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2012-08/now-hear-three-letter-word
He notes the common habit for people to readily equate any cause to a war and how that willingness shows a lack of understanding of what war is really like and devalues the service and sacrifice of the men and women who fight them.
I’ve commented before on how Michael Mann appears to have embraced this “war” concept, perhaps to reinforce his belief in himself as the “hero”. Not sure what Glenn Tamblyn’s motivation is. Perhaps he sees himself as some master strategist, a Napolean to sweep all skeptics before him. What I’m curious about is whether or not Glenn, or any of those who use the “war” concept, have any real experience or prior service. I’m betting they do not. Otherwise they would not engage in such silly talk.

Mr. Watts says there is no secret forum on WUWT. That’s nonsense, there has to be. Proof? The fact that he has already denied the existance of such a forum. Why would Mr. Watts need to deny it, if it did not already exist? Can you tell me that? /sarc off (but oh, what a lovely mad mindframe one plugs into by making fun of these people).

I am sure that even if there is no admin forum, emails go between contributors of WUWT. And indeed, between contributors of WUWT and other people. And I am quite sure that on occasion these will involve comments which would not be posted in public and which those concerned would prefer to remain private, as was intended.
Anthony – are you happy for every single one of all your personal and private correspondences with other people to be made public?
Or are you a hypocrit?

“And this isn’t about science or personal careers and reputations any more.
In a smoke filled room (OK, an incense filled room) we need a conspiracy to save humanity.”
I took the liberty of translating this extremely interesting post into my French-language blog. It’s devastating (I hope).
Good luck!

Strange. In English the word “hypocrite” has come to mean a person who says one thing and does another. At SkS they, via The King of the Lew, have claimed skeptics are conspiracy theorist and so can’t be trusted as they at SkS call for a conspiracy to be formed. And you defend them? Strange.

timg56 makes the interesting point that equating our disagreement over climate change to a war “shows a lack of understanding of what war is really like and devalues the service and sacrifice of the men and women who fight them”.
But war is the continuation of diplomacy by other means, and strategy, tactics, forward planning, etc, are common to war and any other kind of political, social or emotional conflict.
We’re annoyed at the debasement of science and the waste of our taxes. They’re annoyed because the world’s going to end. It’s hardly surprising that their annoyance is expressed in a more extreme fashion.
There’s one big difference between war and debate, on the one hand, and political, social or emotional conflict on the other. In the former case there are clear winners and losers. In the latter case the process is never-ending.

First I would like to direct readers attention to a letter to the editor by a young Naval officer [Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Charlie Hymen, U.S. Navy] in last month’s USNI Proceedings

…wherein this O-2 had focused upon – apparently without realizing it – the concept known as “the moral equivalent of war,” which had first been promulgated by psychologist and pragmatist philosopher Dr. William James in 1906.
Dr. James is widely acknowledged to have been a key influence on the sociopolitical “progressive” movement in these United States. In that 1906 speech of his (later published as an essay) the long-winded cuss said:

If now — and this is my idea — there were, instead of military conscription, a conscription of the whole youthful population to form for a certain number of years a part of the army enlisted against Nature, the injustice would tend to be evened out, and numerous other goods to the commonwealth would remain blind as the luxurious classes now are blind, to man’s relations to the globe he lives on, and to the permanently sour and hard foundations of his higher life. To coal and iron mines, to freight trains, to fishing fleets in December, to dishwashing, clotheswashing, and windowwashing, to road-building and tunnel-making, to foundries and stoke-holes, and to the frames of skyscrapers, would our gilded youths be drafted off, according to their choice, to get the childishness knocked out of them, and to come back into society with healthier sympathies and soberer ideas. They would have paid their blood-tax, done their own part in the immemorial human warfare against nature; they would tread the earth more proudly, the women would value them more highly, they would be better fathers and teachers of the following generation.
Such a conscription, with the state of public opinion that would have required it, and the many moral fruits it would bear, would preserve in the midst of a pacific civilization the manly virtues which the military party is so afraid of seeing disappear in peace. We should get toughness without callousness, authority with as little criminal cruelty as possible, and painful work done cheerily because the duty is temporary, and threatens not, as now, to degrade the whole remainder of one’s life. I spoke of the “moral equivalent” of war. So far, war has been the only force that can discipline a whole community, and until and equivalent discipline is organized, I believe that war must have its way. But I have no serious doubt that the ordinary prides and shames of social man, once developed to a certain intensity, are capable of organizing such a moral equivalent as I have sketched, or some other just as effective for preserving manliness of type. It is but a question of time, of skilful propogandism, and of opinion-making men seizing historic opportunities.

Sounds like current “Liberal” fascist compulsory “community service” crapola, don’t it?
What the political progressives (who perverted the term “Liberal” to deceitfully re-brand themselves in the decades following World War One) had noted in democratic societies since the French Revolution instantiated the concept of “a nation in arms” with the key components of mass armies enlisted and ordered by conscription and a command economy which put the resources of all productive endeavor under the strict control of elected and appointed government thugs was a remarkable lack of resistance against top-down ordination of every aspect of the private citizen’s life, speech, and even his thought.
That Mr. Hymen didn’t speak in his letter to The Proceedings about either Dr. James or that pshrink’s explicit objective in coming up with this ostensibly pacifist but undeniably viciously aggressive violation of individual human rights – using various sorts of “permanent emergency” to override resistance to the government-as-god machinations of those we correctly term “Liberal” fascists today – remarks sadly on the quality of the curriculum at Canoe U., but it don’t surprise me none.
The progressives just loved this permanent state of emergency model. It became their formula for success.
And lest we forget that the progressive movement began in the Republican Party (remember Teddy Roosevelt?), take special note of Richard Milhous Nixon’s enthusiastic stomp job on the Bill of Rights with his glorious “War on (Some) Drugs.”
Inasmuch as the frenetic “catastrophic” AGW alarmists of the past thirty years are without significant exception “Liberal” fascists – whether they’re calling themselves “progressives” this week again or not – that they should frame their attack upon industrialized civilization as the moral equivalent of war against “man-made global climate change” is utterly unsurprising.
This “moral equivalent of war” bullpuckey has been the stock-in-trade of American statist sons of canine parentage ever since Dr. James spewed it more than a century ago. Those of us old enough to have experienced the Carter Malaise and that cement-headed slimeball’s disgusting “Moral Equivalent of War Speech” (18 April 1977) on the then-prevalent “Energy Crisis” (and do please read through that Wiki-bloody-pedia article, willya? Makes me tingle all down one leg to read again that socialist spew of “sacrifice” and “let’s all pull together!” that made even Ronald Reagan [yuck!] look like salvation by comparison when the 1980 elections rolled around).
If you’re too young to have any real appreciation of Jimmy Carter as an earlier iteration of our current Marxist Mombasa Messiah (’cause the teachers’ union types sure as hell want nothing to do with honest talk about the hideous wreck he made of both our domestic economy and our foreign policy), consider that in the summer of 1980, the running joke around the table in the hospital cafeteria where the medical staff used to congregate – the one that was right next to two phones on the wall so we could answer our pages – was that the Open Market Committee of the Federal Reserve oughtta be re-named “The Committee to Re-Elect Jimmy Carter,” because at every sweaty, frenetic meeting they were conjuring counterfeit currency out of thin air at an annualized inflation rate of 20%.
They didn’t call it “quantitative easing” back then, but the intention was a Keynesian “prime the pump” effort to jump-start the economy and prevent the Peanut Farmer from getting his butt bounced out of the White House.
Ah, nostalgia. Those were the years in which everybody learned the word “stagflation,” which those mainstream (i.e., Keynesian) economics professors in school had taught us all was flatly
impossible.
But to get back to Lieutenant (JG) Hymen’s letter in Proceedings.
Any time you hear anybody puking up this “moral equivalent of war” bilge, get your hand on your wallet and your hackles up. They’re trying to work plunder upon you, and your utter enslavement if they can get away with it.
Let us hate and oppose the Watermelon warmists, not simply because their “science” is manifestly and maliciously fraudulent but primarily because they’re “Liberal” fascists intent upon turning our republic from the rule of law into a reign of tyranny.
Mr. Hymen ought to be informed of that, too. After all, it’s his duty as a commissioned officer of the Naval Service to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

I must send this 7000th post of WUWT to my young and impressionable SkS loving colleague at work.
The night-and-day like difference between the way the SkS crew behave and the way AW/WUWT is administered is stunning. In fact they’re two different things: one is a PROPAGANDA outlet and the other is a serious website, or, should I say an examplar online intellectual community where, as mentioned above, the TRUTH can ‘gain commons’ and overcome the LIES.

Quite interesting..but it shows more of the adolescent-like inability of the average american of being able to deal with having been comprehensively defeated in war but a courageous and valiant people. It seems not many people have picked up on this. But then I’m British so a little bit more sensitive to these obvious signals.
