Dr. Michael Mann compares visitors to his Facebook Page to "Beetle Larvae"

Some days, you get gifts from on high.

Dr. Michael Mann apparently still doesn’t understand how his own actions invoked the Streisand effect. So, he compares people asking questions to the larval form of insects.

Steve McIntyre tips us off to this and writes with the driest wit possible:

From time to time, we hear from climate scientists that they are limited in their responses by the dignity of their profession. The dignity to which climate scientists aspire is nicely exemplified by the following remarks of a prominent real_climate_scientist:

hey trolls who have been given marching orders to flood the comment threads here like an infestation of beetle larvae: Don’t bother! We’ve seen the mindless talking points before, and coming here to parrot them simply (a) pollutes the otherwise thoughtful discussion in the comment threads here, and (b) exposes the intellectual bankruptcy of your climate change denial zealotry.

Here’s the screencap:

I wonder, has Dr. Mann just libeled everyone whose comments he has been serially deleting? The best part is Steve McIntyre’s response, be sure to read it here.

In other news, it has now been 10 days since Mark Steyn wrote the article that ticked off Dr. Mann, and now the backlash has sent him scurrying for entomological comparisons for lack of any better arguments.

Since the Steyn article is still there, I suspect that NRO has told Dr. Mann and his attorney to “go fish”. Well, at least he’s having bait delivered.

I’m reminded of this quote from Dr. Roger Pielke Jr.:

“If Michael Mann did not exist, the skeptics would have to invent him.”

Stay classy Mike!

It’s time to shun Dr. Mann–he’s an insufferable boor that tries to be the rock star of climate science and has done a tremendous disservice to humanity instead.
Let him boor himself to death; let him tweet and email himself–nobody should try to understand him because he’s not understandable; it’s simply not worth the effort.

But wait. The real story of this post by Michael Mann comes in comments just below his outburst. Read what comes from a worker at NOAA. Having sampled Mann’s invective, David Nicosia, is all about signing him up to teach NOAA employees and stakeholders. Apparently rude ad hominen obfuscation is the perfect skill set for NOAA workshops.
Here’s the exchange:
David Nicosia – I work for NOAA and sometimes we have climate change education and outreach workshops for NOAA employees and our stakeholders. Can I keep you in mind as a possible keynote. The “otherwise thoughtful discussion” of the Manniac’s Facebook page consists largely of his adoring fans mindlessly kissing his digital posterior.
Mann’s vitriolic emails from Climategate showed that he is a vicious politicized hack. He is more at home in rabid far-left webzines than in “thoughtful discussion” of anything.

Well, should it come to pass, one would hope that Mann can get control of his outbursts, since NOAA issued a Code of Conduct last December, which includes:

Professional, courteous, and fair in working with others and respectful of the ideas of others and:
Neither unfairly hinder the scientific activities of others nor engage in dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation, coercive manipulation, or other scientific or research misconduct.
Provide constructive, objective, and frank evaluation to others on their scientific activities as appropriate for standards of respectful peer review, and accept constructive critique from others.
Contribute to open and respectful scientific discourse that adheres to scientific standards for reporting results and conclusions and respects the intellectual property rights of others, including acknowledging and crediting prior work.
The Code seems to apply to “contractors” as well.

Steve closed his thread on the subject. A shame, I would have like the chance to rebut the claim made by a commenter about pine beetles and AGW. The implication was that outbreaks of the beetles are increasing (due to AGW, naturally) and this is bad, because they make fires worse. Er, little problem with that last part:
http://www.cfc.umt.edu/cesu/NEWCESU/Assets/Individual%20Project%20Reports/NPS%20Projects/CSU/2006/06Romme_YELL_beetles_article.pdf
“This study has shown that a linked disturbance interaction likely exists between MPB outbreaks and wildfire in lodgepole pine forests of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. The direction of the interaction is opposite to what is widely presumed by the public, in that our study predicts a reduction in most measures of fire intensity for up to 35 years after a beetle outbreak, including a reduced probability of active crown fire.”
“Our overall conclusion was that the linkage of prior MPB disturbance to future fire disturbance generally results in a dampening, rather than an amplification, of fire behavior and intensity.”

[cross-posted with BH] Mann cannot dare to allow serious legal and public attention to his record. He’s not that crazy. He’s re-writing history with is book and book tour, but he would not dare to have to face legal discovery and cross-examination from a well-prepped attorney. Just remember how ridiculous the Penn State “inquiry” really was, Mann has skated free until now with pal reviews and cushy protections:
Clive Crook in The Atlantic on ludicrous Penn State “inquiry” on Mann (July 14, 2010)

“The Penn State inquiry exonerating Michael Mann — the paleoclimatologist who came up with “the hockey stick” — would be difficult to parody. Three of four allegations are dismissed out of hand at the outset: the inquiry announces that, for “lack of credible evidence”, it will not even investigate them. (At this, MIT’s Richard Lindzen tells the committee, “It’s thoroughly amazing. I mean these issues are explicitly stated in the emails. I’m wondering what’s going on?” The report continues: “The Investigatory Committee did not respond to Dr Lindzen’s statement. Instead, [his] attention was directed to the fourth allegation.”) Moving on, the report then says, in effect, that Mann is a distinguished scholar, a successful raiser of research funding, a man admired by his peers — so any allegation of academic impropriety must be false.”

30 years worth of scam is crumbling. Man has cracked and was a pillar of the foundation. How much albedo from the dust of the collapse of CAGW? There may be serious global cooling for years to come. Therefore, CAGW causes global cooling as a result of the collapse of global warming. See, it’s too complicated for us mere mortals to understand.
When the dust clears we may be in another ice age, and before I have finished contributing to CO2 increase by the results of my breathing.

Mann has not filed suit yet.
Of course, in most jurisdictions, he will have up to a year before the statute of limitations will expire.
But sending a strongly worded demand letter, and then NOT filing suit does a certain amount of damage to the credibility of any future protestations.

July 25, 2012 4:33 pm

Slightly, but not completely, o/t. Mann’s bahaviour reminded me.
I’ve seen a lot of poisonous stuff in the course of reading the climate science blogs, but never have I seen so much venom and false accusations packed into a short email, as one received today by a friend of mine, that implicated me.
What was most telling was the use of the phrase:

This link will bring you up to date.
http://johnosullivan.wordpress.com/
From the link…
(1.) The “Truth Defense” to Libel
Canadian courts offer the defendant in a libel lawsuit the unique opportunity to pursue the “truth defense.“ Ball has sagely opted to pursue that path rather than, for example, the “fair comment” defense. This is because the “truth defense” places a higher – more onerous – evidential burden on the parties. This means any and all evidence demanded by either party in the ongoing discovery process must be revealed. So effective can the “truth defense” be that some cynics refer to it as the “scorched earth” defense.
(2.) “Spoliation”: The Intentional Withholding/Destruction of Evidence
Since 2008 we can give thanks that Canada has beefed up it’s due process laws to punish litigants that intentionally withhold or destroy evidence (e.g. see McDougall v. Black & Decker Canada Inc.,[1.]). This means that Mann’s lawyer, Roger McConchie, cannot persist in indefinitely stalling over compliance with Ball’s motion to hand over those “hockey stick” r-squared correlation coefficient numbers.

He’s right, eh?!!

I pointed out Mann’s reliance on anti-skeptic book author Ross Gelbspan in my Dec 6 2011 WUWT comment http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/12/06/mannx-tedx-and-all-that/#comment-821312 for his accusation that skeptic scientists are corrupted by fossil fuel industry money, an accusation that is not only groundless but potentially libel/slander on Gelbspan’s part. I find it positively stunning that Mann would risk diving into any kind of discussions of defamatory statements, considering how he would become a ‘deer caught in the headlights’ in trying to defend the ‘big coal & oil funding’ accusation. Why on Earth would he even want to draw attention to one of the weaker facets of the AGW issue?
If the public loses all faith in the idea that skeptic scientists are untrustworthy, ‘poof’ goes the whole issue just like a ponzi scheme. “The End is Near for Faith in AGW” http://wattsupwiththat.com/2011/06/25/the-end-is-near-for-faith-in-agw/

Some kind of bizarro lifeworld irony in that just when the climate science world was getting Mann’s 1998 and 1999 NH reconstruction papers, the IPCC process was ramping up for AR3 and the alarmists were going crazy for ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, George Monbiot was publishing this nutty screed:
Monbiot 1999: “Global warming means that flying across the Atlantic is now as unacceptable as child abuse”
Can we say that all the alarmists who continued jet-setting around the world for their meetings and vacations were all the “so and so of climate science”?? [I won’t make light of horrible hideous activity reflected in the Penn State cases or any child abuse cases, but I simply point out that it’s one of the leading alarmist propagandists who felt it was appropriate to liken all skeptics to at least supporters of child abuse]
i.e., it is the propagandists associated with Mann & co. who feel free to smear and libel with anything that pops into their heads.

Larvae respond electro-physiologically via structures in their “head” neurologically orientate them toward exudated CO2. When moisture fosters carbonic acid holding the CO2 there are chemo-receptors moving them toward their feed.
Now, in the case of underground larvae that detect a plant root’s CO2 gradient exuded there are other compounds put out by the roots to consider. In the case of the Cockchafer larvae (yes, it exists) if the plant roots are damaged & CO2 around it manages to feed easily. However, when the plant root is not already damage even if there is the same level of CO2 being exuded the Cockchafer larvae does not orientate so well toward it’s feed.
? Are the larvae heading to Mann just because of his CO2 plume or because there’s so much underlying root damage he can’t mask how much gas is being exuded ?

July 25, 2012 7:47 pm

I know this has been said before, on numerous occasions, but does anyone who posts on here know anyone who denies climate change ?? I sure as hell don’t.
Isn’t it Mann’s ilk and their zombie followers who think that the climate should be static and how it was when they decided it was optimal ??

well the Mann does have his loyal defenders in the media… here is how the “national environmental reporter” for the Washington Post mis-describes what the fuss is about, basically parroting Mann’s revisionist history:
[this is from May 25, 2012 but I haven’t seen it cited on the blogs before — just an example of how journalists parrot whatever someone like Mann tells them to say]
Washington Post review of Mann’s book embraces uncritically his account
[my emphasis]

“When it comes to key warriors in America’s battle over the causes of climate change, few rival Pennsylvania State University professor Michael E. Mann. Mann, who directs the Penn State Earth System Science Center, led a 1998 reconstruction of temperature records going back thousands of years and showing that global averages had shot up in recent decades….”
…..
“Two Canadians, mining consultant Stephen McIntyre and economist Ross McKitrick, challenged the hockey stick on a variety of fronts. First they went after the proxy data; later they employed the same statistical tool that Mann and his colleagues did, but in what Mann considers an inconsistent way. The result was a smoothing out of the pattern embodied in the hockey stick. “If there is a lesson” in these sorts of fights, Mann writes, “it is that scientific findings that rest on such technical complexities are prone to abuse by those with a potential ax to grind.””

Michael Mann by his elimination of the Medieval Warm Period
demonstrated a woeful ignorance of the cyclical nature of things,
Judging by his proclamations and his actions
Dr Mann has not realized that the way he is perceived has

In the Hockey Stick chart he created a lasting monument to his own failure.

What peer climate scientists really think of Mann’s work but don’t tell the public

Depending on the kind of beetle, some eat dung, carrion, trees (as pictured), fruit and vegetables. But since we’re all swarming in to a dung pit of his own making, I’m good with dung beetles.
The thing I wonder about, is he has to know that he’s deleting reasonable questions. And if he’s made comments about all the bug larvae that he’s cleaning off the site, won’t that make people wonder what got cleaned off? Mann and Real Climate deny that cliamte change happened in the past. They claim that it was local to Europe. But if temps changed in Europe, this would affect global averages unless they also changed somewhere else.
So, this means that climate must have changed, and Mann and RC are cliamte change deniers.

Not so nice that the myth of death threats “Morddrohungen” in Australia is being propagated. Australian (Federal) Police have no record of such a crime being reported. It is a criminal offence NOT to report such a crime so I’m sure that the law-abiding scientists in Australia would have reported such matters to the Police.
What is your purpose in propagating that myth? Was there a mis-translation?
Why did you imply that big-oil was behind the sceptics who want you only to explain exactly how you practice science, so that they can replicate and indeed, find errors? Never mind the meagre funding … which for most sceptics is out of their own pockets and not from the taxpayer: Isn’t science about the elimination of errors? Have you, Dr Mann never made a mistake? Are you not prepared to have your errors corrected?
Why did you not correct the assertion that it’s never been warmer in the past 1000 years when there is ample physical evidence in published literature that it has indeed been warmer?

I’d have asked more but was blocked very quickly and the first posting removed. Next would have been relating to his “quoted” response:

Ich bin kein Ideologe, der eine fixe Idee hat, was Politik tun muss.
My translation: “I am not an idealogue who has fixed ideas about what politics should do.”

At the tail of of the article, there’s a mini-bio which roughly translates to:

Michael E. Mann, 46 has been director of the Center for Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University in the United States since 2005. His book “The Hockey Stick and The Climate Wars.” appeared this year. Mann’s emails were hacked in the course of the “Climate Gate” scandal and distorted quotes to make climate change look like a swindle. Several independent studies completely absolved the researchers. Searches for the instigators of the hack have yet to be found.

Still wondering why I called the Berlin-based TAZ “Pravda on the Spree”?

With fellow speaker and panelist Michael Mann sitting close by nodding with approval, Penn State’s Peter Buckland says some astonishing things that should arouse some interest in the state legislature:
h/t Tom Nelson

April 2012: Remarkable statement by Penn State’s Peter Buckland on the alleged political power of academic warmists: “[Penn State is] arguably the most powerful institution in the state of Pennsylvania, maybe more powerful than the state government, because it can just tell the state government to go away all the time…”

A free presentation given on April 30, 2012 at 101 Thomas Bldg. on Penn State’s University Park Campus to a live audience.
At the 1:57 mark, “PSU expert” Peter Buckland says “[Penn State is] arguably the most powerful institution in the state of Pennsylvania, maybe more powerful than the state government, because it can just tell the state government to go away all the time. When you have a university that powerful, the statement that you know like …climate change is real, we have people that tell us that it is real, and we have to take meaningful action, that pushes other institutions to do things. And it will push the political conversation some. If you have coalitions of every major research university in the country, saying that and broadcasting it very clearly and then embedding it in everything they do, it will change the civil-, it will change the society.”

Dr. Michael Mann shouldn’t have to debate “Beetle Larvae”, that’s why it’s so important for him to show the world that his theories can stand up to a real scientific debate by debating someone with full scientific credentials who disagrees with Dr. Mann’s conclusions.

“…should have to debate?” Are you kidding me?
You mean he REFUSES to debate ANYBODY! (So what you said isn’t the truth, is it?)
That’s because our little Mike E. Mann is a chicken. He clucks a big noise; he hides behind big words; and he relies on big institutions who make big money from his subterfuge to keep spewing lies, lies, lies!
But he REFUSES to debate–he runs away just like a scared chicken when confronted.

New SLAAPstick Courtroom Capers as Michael Mann Falls Foul Again
EXCERPT:
Media war of words erupts in anticipation of another global warming courtroom battle. We take time to see how latest events connected to Climategate’s controversial scientist Michael Mann stack up alongside Mann’s legal shoot out versus Dr. Tim Ball.
Last week Pennsylvania State University (PSU) popped back up on the notoriety radar thanks to lingering fallout over their jailed child sex felon, football coach Jerry Sandusky. PSU’s other alleged bad boy, climatologist Michael Mann, came out with all legal guns blazing after popular right-wing writer, Mark Steyn and the National Review wrote of the parallels in the “whitewashes” PSU investigations performed separately on Sandusky and Mann. The recent and hard-hitting Freeh Report is damning of PSU’s hierarchy.
With talk of more lawsuits flying, observers are now wondering how an earlier Michael Mann face off with Tim Ball is shaping up one year on. Readers may recall that Ball’s whimsy that Mann belongs in “the State Pen., not Penn. State” triggered the first of what now may become a series of desperate SLAAP lawsuits.

Hey, some improvement, finally! We’re now upgraded to beetle larvae, from the previous label of holocaust denier. Thank you, Michael Mann!
I think it’s wrong to call Michael Mann the “Jerry Sandusky of Climate Change”. What Mann did with his pseudoscience is much worse, and is affecting people and economies all around the world in a horrible way. Because of Mannian science, many senior citizens can’t afford to pay their gas bills during winter and are FREEZING TO DEATH. Mannian science = crimes against humanity.
What I want to know is: How does Michael Mann sleep at night? The only way, I think, is if Mann is delusional and believes his own crap (just like Al Gore) or has no conscience whatsoever.

By the way, could this be the opportunity the Climategate hacker has been waiting for? We know the hacker has an encrypted batch of unread Climategate emails, what if the hacker is playing the long game? Maybe the hacker is waiting for Mann to commit to a high profile legal suit, before releasing the final batch of emails. Mann would be well and truly f@@@@@ then.
I’m calling it now: Mann won’t have the balls to sue Steyn, too many dead carcasses (infested with beetle larvae) hidden in his Mannian Science closet.

While the Manniac is keeping all but his most devoted fans away from his Facebook page, and condemning the rest of us as “beetle larvae, I just had a nutty real-life experience with a couple of McKibben fans who are sooo concerned about “climate change” that they want a rapid population decrease among humans asap:
[cross-post with BH] I unwillingly overheard a few minutes of two guys so concerned about climate change, talking at the next table in a coffee shop just now…. they are big eco-freaks and McKibben fans, plus deep ecology, the whole bit. One of them started talking about how

“we really need 25% of the world’s population to die off, maybe a disease or something, I hope more of the smart* ones will be left”

*clearly implying smart eco-freaks like [us]…..
For once in my life I decided I was not going to let such b.s. pass unchallenged, even if I had to be “rude” — I chewed them both out loudly in front of the whole coffee shop, said “what you are saying you want is for 1.5 billion or more people to die soon to suit your ideological needs!” They were embarrassed of course, but the other guy said “we weren’t saying we were going to DO it” as though that made all the difference in the world. They want it but as long as they don’t ‘do’ it that’s ok, then.
I didn’t linger for discussion, since they did not seem like people one could have a reasonable discussion with, and I’m sure they thought me intolerably “rude” for objecting loudly to wishing for the imminent deaths of 1.5+ billion people.
Perhaps at least they will think a bit more about where their views have taken them, but more likely they will just write me off as a rude rube who is not one of their “smart ones” worthy of survival.

RE:

hey trolls who have been given marching orders to flood the comment threads here like an infestation of beetle larvae: Don’t bother! We’ve seen the mindless talking points before, and coming here to parrot them simply (a) pollutes the otherwise thoughtful discussion in the comment threads here, and (b) exposes the intellectual bankruptcy of your climate change denial zealotry.

I don’t mind being called all these names, but the ruthless mixing of metaphors really hurts. In the interest of better tweeting, I offer the following version, which melds all the allusions into a single coherent conceit:

hey trolls who have been given bridge-lurking orders to prey upon our honest wayfarers here like an infestation of evil Nordic giants: Don’t bother! We’ve seen the mindless talking points before, and coming here to spread your falsehoods simply (a) interrupts the flow of our bard’s otherwise thoughtful rendering of Ragnarok, and (b) exposes the intellectual naievety of your climate change denial zealotry.

O.k., so it’s a bit strained. And it doesn’t really capture the vitriol. I’ll work on it.

Your ongoing ad hominems attacks on individual scientists is the main reason why I don’t believe climate skeptics.
If you’ve got an argument, present it. Dr Mann has made valuable contributions to paleoclimatology, and is rightly respected and recognised. But there are hundreds of thousands of papers on climate science. The science does not become false if you don’t like dendroclimatology, and it certainly doesn’t become false if you don’t like Dr. Mann.

Welcome to WUWT.
You must be new here. After all, you’ve clearly missed all the discussions on papers and studies we’ve had here over the years, or all the rebuttals to Mann’s shoddy work.
I also noticed you purposely chose to avoid Mann’s vulgar outburst at people asking him questions. Nice cherry picking. Mr. Mann must be proud.

re: ” the main reason why I don’t believe climate skeptics”
Well that’s a really bad way to evaluate evidence, is it not?
Michael Mann does loads of nasty ad homs, so I guess that no one should pay any attention to his “evidence” then….
As for WUWT, it’s a lively place but typically one does not see ad homs toward scientists who have not first engaged in same. Mann has been a nasty politicized guy from early on (review some Climategate emails of how he behaved many years ago regarding serious scientific and statistical questions). Serious scientists get treated with a lot of respect unless and until they have shown a nasty ad hom streak themselves. Sauce, goose, gander…. pot, kettle.

For anyone like Seth who is concerned about the excess of ad hominems in climate science issues, a case study should be made of the “hatchet job” done last summer/fall against Spencer and Braswell. What should have been scientific debates about data, methods, and competing analyses turned into this (the fault lies entirely with the “alarmists” like Trenberth and Gleick, who could not stand to see an unwelcome scientific analysis allowed any oxygen at all, so to speak):
Pielke Sr. on the bizarre ad hominem attacks by Trenberth-Gleick-Abraham on Spencer and Braswell
Trenberth teams up with Peter Gleick on “hatchet job” on Spencer and Braswell
Spencer discusses the unhinged and unscientific assaults upon his name and reputation
The now notorious fraud artist Peter Gleick weighed in with his own assault upon Spencer and Braswell
WUWT thread on the libels agains Spencer and Braswell

correction, that was the paper in the journal Remote Sensing by Spencer and Braswell (2011)
Christy has also come in for abuse along with Spencer and UAH, but was not a co-author on that Remote Sensing paper.

Sycamore? Sequoia? Spinach? Spam? The different species eat a lot of different things. Ever watch an episode of CSI when they talk about them?

As I predicted, Steyn says that he is preparing for a full-length trial and that although there is no defense fund, you could contribute or subscribe to National Review to support his cause:

The chance that the principals at National Review would cooperate with thuggish legal demands to censor themselves was slim.

You’ve lost me straight away. Well done. You come in at the end of a thread devoted to a scientist calling people who question his claims “beetle larvae” for heaven’s sake, and the first thing you do is criticise those who respond to this nasty bigot for ad-hominen attacks?
You have got to be kidding. Either that, or you are really – and I mean really – dumb.

The science does not become false if you don’t like dendroclimatology, and it certainly doesn’t become false if you don’t like Dr. Mann.

The science of dendroclimatology becomes false if you try to twist it to do something other than it was meant to do, which is examine tree growth in order to take an educated guess at the conditions in the particular microclimate in which it grew, which includes a host of factors other than the ambient temperature. And if you snip off the end of a proxy record and graft an observational record to it, then claim the whole as a proxy record, that’s not science, that’s fraud.

Speaking of beetles, to the ancient Egyptians the scarab beetle was a symbol of death and rebirth. Isn’t it odd that Michael Mann keeps getting into public conflict with Canadians? Steve McIntyre, Dr Tim Ball, and now Mark Steyn. Maybe Mann was mean to Canadians in a past life. Karma’s a bitch, Mann, and she’s coming for you.

“For anyone like Seth who is concerned about the excess of ad hominems in climate science issues, a case study should be made of the “hatchet job” done last summer/fall against Spencer and Braswell.”
Spencer and Braswell somehow got a paper through a peer review process that did not address well known refutations that exist in the science. Any reviewer with a familiarity with the field should have known that it needed to supply a lot more evidence, and the editor of the Journal quite rightly resigned.
All of that is an argument about science. Not a pleasant one, but science often gets heated.
“Mann compares hordes of idiots making attacks on his facebook page to Beetle Larvae”. Is also not pleasant, but it is also not about the science.
And the groupthink mantras repeated in this thread show nothing worthwhile in the thought processes here:
“I don’t see the beetle larvae on Mann’s FB page anymore. Hide the deranged, I guess.”
– Pathetic
“Mickey Mann is God’s gift to man. May he stay clueless until the day they haul him off to prison.”
– Pathetic
“Hide the malign…”

“We all know what insect Larvae like to feed on, it begins with S.”
– Pathetic.
The idea of an ad-hominem is that it is a fallacious argument. Calling people beetles isn’t an ad-hominem unless you are saying that therefore some argument they are making is false.
Attacking the respected and highly awarded Dr. Mann on a blog that’s raison d’etre is to culture a social group of people who deny climate science, however, is. You’re attempting to create an anti-science demagoguery by maligning individual scientists. The fallacy being that because of the hatred you create towards them, therefore climate science is false.
Quite apart from the fact that Dr. Mann is a well regarded scientist with many notable contributions, so the hatred is without basis, even if you have some personal vendetta against scientists with male pattern baldness, or computer geeks, and do genuinely hate him for some reason of your own, climate science and atmospheric physics are still valid.

That’s like saying the managing editor of your local fishwrapper should resign if one of his stringers gets a partial story and turns it in a final. The worst that happens is that the story gets retracted or corrected — which is the editor’s *job*.
“Hide the malign…”

Mann explicitly denigrated the posters’ comments as “mindless talking points” polluting his sacrosanct FB page with the “intellectual bankruptcy of…climate change denial zealotry.” That’s fit enough for even your description.
Attacking the respected and highly awarded Dr. Mann on a blog that’s raison d’etre is to culture a social group of people who deny climate science, however, is.
You just shot holes through your own definition, genius.
You’re attempting to create an anti-science demagoguery by maligning individual scientists. The fallacy being that because of the hatred you create towards them, therefore climate science is false.
Which is precisely what Mikey did. Do you even *read* what you’ve written?
…climate science and atmospheric physics are still valid.
Yup — and CAGW has had to distort both and add a generous mixture of prevarication, obfuscation, intimidation, and outright fraud in order to make it appear genuine.
