Climate Craziness of the Week: '$300 gets you a hockey stick signed by Mike Mann'

Professor Scott Mandia of SUNY in full climate warrior dress - this is not a Photoshop job - he was actually dumb enough to dress up like this and promote this photo on his own blog. Click photo for the story.
You just have to laugh.

Scott Mandia aka “SuperMandia” (seen at left) outdoes himself with a new level of craziness. And here we thought Mike Mann really didn’t like hockey stick icons:

“I always thought it was somewhat misplaced to make it a central icon of the climate change debate,” [Mann] said.

Source: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/06/29/mann-says-hockey-stick-icon-is-misplaced/

Hold that thought, because SuperMandia is ready to leap tall tales with a single bound!

On Mandia’s Blog we have this: Support Climate Scientists & Look Cool Doing So!

Help the Climate Science Legal Defense Fund (CSLDF) raise money to cover the costs of Dr. Mann’s legal defense as well as other scientists who face similar challenges. To help raise money and reward those that contribute, we have rounded up some cool designs and gifts. CSLDF thanks Nicole Martinez and Lunchbreath who were kind enough to donate their designs for this fundraiser.

$25 gets you one of our t-shirts. They will be delivered a couple weeks after the fundraiser is over. We will check in with you about which design you want and what size.

$50 gets two of the t-shirts.

$75 gets all three of the t-shirts and our true gratitude.

$150 gets you all three of the t-shirts and a copy of Climate Change: Picturing the Science signed by Joshua Wolfe (www.picturingclimatechange.com)

$300 gets you a hockey stick signed by Mike Mann.

Mike Mann thought the icon was misplaced, and tried to minimize it in media reports, but it is OK to use it to to make money as a signed icon by the icon himself? What a freaking hypocrite.

You misunderstood…Mandia, like most mainstream climatologists, is used to forecast the past.
Hence his delayed April Fools’ Day.
The CSLDF team, after disentangling their tongues, simply observed an increase in Fool-O2 at the weekend and have already prepared a model showing silly stuff will be said in evermore great quantities by people. Especially by CSLDF people.

It seems that the genius plan to evangelise climate catastrophism by promoting feeble-minded degenerates to positions of influence has a fatal flaw:
The morons are too stupid to keep their increasingly ludicrous stories straight.
This was unavoidable since even Galileo and Newton were renowned for dressing up like clowns, repeatedly talking utter self-contradictory bollocks, refusing to share their data and methods with others and then falsely accusing their critics – who they refused to debate – of being “industry-funded deniariamalists”.
It’s their vocation. We pay these idiots savants to sit in their ivory towers, play dress-up and computer games and then talk out their arses to accuse us of being mentally ill – all because we have compassion for their mental deficiencies.
Every signed hockey stick you buy could save a single brain-cell of one of these adorable unfortunates.

Question: Why can’t these climate scientists spend their own money for their defense?
The old Biblical proverb is still true today — “He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver.” That is from Ecclesiastes 5:10. I really like that proverb. These people make plenty of money from both taxpayers and grants and yet they still ask for more. Why can’t they spend their own money? I guess it is easier to play a victim and have other people to pay for their problems. When I think about such people, I think of my favorite proverb “That which is made crooked cannot be made straight.” That is from Ecclesiastes 1:15.

Excellent!
The version I learned during my time as a professor was the following-
Those that can, do.
Those that can’t, teach.
Those that can’t teach, teach others to teach.
Those that can’t teach others to teach, write books about teaching.
Those that can’t write or teach, become administrators.

To make a crooked stick

Led through the crooked pines
And all his crooked friends

Yep, the hockey stick he bluffed the world about even before he had a PhD to his name – all done with daytime temperatures for land which was not too cold to grow trees.
And all blamed on Co2 when it started to bend up, having never bent down according to his nice tree rings,
Seeing that a microwave oven produces low frequency radiation far more intense than carbon dioxide could ever do, and yet its radiation is not absorbed* and converted to thermal energy in ice, what makes anyone think that radiation from carbon dioxide could warm all the snow and ice covered areas of the planet?
The mechanism by which microwave ovens heat water molecules is totally different from the excitation of atoms which happens when high frequency solar radiation warms water. The oven emits radiation at a very specific frequency which happens to resonate with natural frequencies of the water molecules which then “snap” or “flip” through 180 degrees and back again in synchronisation with the passing waves of electromagnetic radiation. The molecules in water do have the space to do this, and when they flip there is frictional heat generated by collisions of the molecules. In ice there is not sufficient room to move and flip like this.
There is no violation of the Second Law of Thermodynamics simply because electrical energy was added to the system.
But the fact that the ice was not melted demonstrates the phenomenon of “resonant scattering” in which radiation is not reflected, not transmitted and not absorbed with conversion to thermal energy. See Section 5 of my publication here.
* Try this home experiment:
Obtain two identical small microwave bowls which do not get warm in the microwave oven. Ensure that they both fit in the oven together. Obtain a small ice cube tray and fill it with filtered or distilled water. Pour that water into one of the bowls. Then refill the tray with similar water and place the ice cube tray in your freezer and both the bowls in your frig overnight. Next day, empty the ice cubes into the bowl without water, then place both bowls in the microwave oven and operate for about 60 to 80 seconds depending on the volume of water – try to bring the water nearly to the boil. Observe that the ice has not been affected – you might even try comparing its temperature with other ice in the freezer. To do this, pack the ice samples in a tall insulated mug and insert a meat thermometer with a metal spike.
Why wasn’t the energy in the radiation shared equally between the water and the ice? If you pour the hot water into the bowl with the ice it will easily melt the ice within a couple of minutes, so this demonstrates that sufficient energy did enter the water.

I have an idea for a powerful and aggressive visual image: a pair of upraised hands decisively snapping a hockey stick (with its blade upturned at the right). It is based on the well-known (to warmists) logo of the War Resisters League, in which the hands are snapping a rifle.
It’s a clear, clever “grabber.” It’s a way for people on our side to identify themselves and give a Bronx cheer to the climate consensus. It would be a great conversation-starter.
I donate this idea free to WUWT and Josh, who could split the revenue. I think WUWT could sell a million of ‘em, metaphorically speaking. (It would work for lapel pins, coffee cups, book covers, web-site medallions, and T-shirts too.)
A preliminary but unsatisfactory-to-me version of this image, drawn at my request by S. Weasel, can be seen on my page on Photobucket at http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/RogerKni/Misc/87a659ba.png (I hope the MODS will post it here as an image—I don’t have posting privileges.)
It needs the following changes, which I hope Josh will make:
1. The legend around the perimeter should be larger and changed to “Gore Resisters’ League.” (This quip ought irritate any warmists who see it.)
2. The hands should be redrawn so they don’t exactly copy the hands in the WRL’s logo.
3. There wrists should be shackled to each other, indicating our defiance despite our suppressed and marginalized status.
An alternative legend might be, “Get the puck outta here!”
————–
Here’s another idea: Photoshop Patchy into a red-and-black Devil’s costume, add a pitchfork and an evil grin, and top it off with the caption, “Things will get warmer for you, ha-ha-ha!”

someone has realised that it is only a matter of time before their mischief is exposed and without any kind of accelerating global warming, there is not a hope in hell they will ever have a job again outside of day time TV… I used to be someone a few people heard of.

Time to start the museum of Global Warming
To be genuine & serious, someone ought to buy one of these hockey sticks and donate it to a (serious) museum. We laugh about global warming now, but in a few years it will be next to impossible to find anything about it as the revisionists cleanse their webs, courses, government PR of the utter absurdity it now contains and pretend it never happened.
In fact, didn’t Anthony mention that his own museum? had destroyed its own global warming exhibit. This is just what is going to happen.
Those who were so keen to promote perhaps the single biggest mass “episode” and possibly the most expensive “fad” … will just as rigorously try to hide their own shame… and in doing so destroy any relict of it.
But the reality is that it is already part of history and how are we going to explain to future generations about this episode unless we save something of it to show to them?

I’ve decided to leave you all with a brief summary of key points in my Radiated Energy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics
1. An analysis (Appendix Q.1) of the gradient of the gradient of temperature trends since the year 1900 shows a declining rate of increase, going down from 0.06 to 0.05 C degree per decade. Linked papers support the observation of natural 1000 and 60 year cycles. In particular, the current long-term rate of increase is totally in keeping with the known rise since the Little Ice Age, and a maximum can be expected within 50 to 200 years at the most. There is absolutely no anthropogenic influence demonstrated.
2. A new hypothesis is put forward which explains the resonant scattering mechanism leading to the observed slowing of radiative cooling of the surface by the cooler atmosphere. This mechanism is found to depend, not only upon the intensity of the backradiation, but also upon the density of frequencies involved and the number of spectral lines. The conclusion is that CO2 has far less effect per molecule than water vapour molecules. Furthermore, all that can be affected is about 20% to 25% of all surface cooling, namely that component of radiation which does not go straight to space through the atmospheric window.
3. In Appendix Q.3 consideration of the Earth’s stabilising effect provides proof that other cooling effects (mostly evaporative cooling and diffusion followed by convection) will accelerate to compensate, so that there is no overall effect on the rate of surface cooling, and thus no effect due to carbon dioxide, even that already present in preindustrial times.
4. Various issues which may be thought to counter the argument are discussed in the Appendix and discounted one by one.

The ever-arrogant Michael Mann is fortunate he’s being protected by the leadership of the University of Virginia and Pennyslvania State University. Without their intervention and bogus internal investigations, he’d probably be facing fraud charges and scrambling to avoid jail time.
Like many of his AGW alarmist peers, Mann’s “science” is driven by the tireless pursuit of the next multi-million dollar taxpayer-funded research grant. The AGW movement and its flimsily constructed foundation of junk science always has been driven by the lust for money and power. “Mann the scientist” was corrupted long ago.

Why break it? Just ask Ross and Steve to sign a limited set then have an auction, perhaps on WUWT, to support Timothy Ball’s legal costs.
I suspect that each one sold could make a healthy profit. Scott and Mike might not be too happy if that happened but you can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs!

A couple of years ago, my enterprising daughter, Jessie, decided to sell a Duck Tape wallet autographed by me on EBAY. Wanting to encourage her enterprising spirit, I called Dr Mann up and asked if he would like to do a wallet, one side blue for cooling one red for warming and we would both autograph it, Jessie keeping half the profit, him keeping the other half. The idea of course was to encourage my daughter to not just have an idea, but to produce a product through work and take the risk of working and then getting a reward.. Keep in mind at this time my attitude toward Mann was ” if i just looked at what he looked at, I would believe it too” In other words I was not slamming him for emails or anything, just a simple debate, lets make a forecast and see who is right.
His response was to my best recollection No, I dont believe in doing things for profit”
I was stunned, told him if he changed his mind, that it would be fun and perhaps lighten some things up. He probably has no recollection of this. I certainly do since when I hung up the phone I knew that he seemed not to understand that without profits, people dont pay the taxes to fund the grants that he gets for his studies, for one, and for two, he and I looked at the world very differently as far as output and results are. Perhaps some of this is coming to the top of late.
In any case, Jessie is still making duck tape wallets, I bet one autographed by me and him for cooling and warming would get more than the hockey stick. Of course we will never know, but Jessie would love to do it if he is willing. He can use his half for his purpose, Jessie will learn the lesson of having an idea, then working to produce something from it. everyone wins, right?
We are not holding our breath ( though we probably should, as it means we are exhaling co2)

What did perk me up, though, is the appeal for funds towards Mann’s legal defence – is this charlatan actually being brought to book at last?? I do hope so!
