Source of Heartland leak steps forward

Peter Gleick

Peter Gleick

The source of the documents revealing the strategy of the Heartland Institute’s campaign to undermine the public’s understanding of climate science — including by producing and distributing K-12 curriculum materials propounding climate change denial — revealed himself to be Dr. Peter Gleick, the hydroclimatologist who heads the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security.

In a February 20, 2012, statement posted at the Huffington Post, Gleick explained that at the beginning of the year, he received a document “describing what appeared to be details of the Heartland Institute’s climate program strategy.” Attempting to confirm the accuracy of the information, he continued, “I solicited and received additional materials directly from the Heartland Institute under someone else’s name.”

Gleick expressed regret for his actions, writing, “My judgment was blinded by my frustration with the ongoing efforts — often anonymous, well-funded, and coordinated — to attack climate science and scientists and prevent this debate, and by the lack of transparency of the organizations involved. Nevertheless I deeply regret my own actions in this case. I offer my personal apologies to all those affected.”

As part of NCSE’s expansion to defend the teaching of climate science, Gleick had agreed to join NCSE’s board of directors. On the same day as he posted his statement, however, he apologized to NCSE for his behavior with regard to the Heartland Institute documents and offered to withdraw from the board, on which he was scheduled to begin serving as of February 25, 2012. His offer was accepted.

“Gleick obtained and disseminated these documents without the knowledge of anyone here,” NCSE’s executive director Eugenie C. Scott commented, “and we do not condone his doing so.” But, she added, “they show that NCSE was right to broaden its scope to include the teaching of climate science. There really are coordinated attempts to undermine the teaching of climate science, and NCSE is needed to help to thwart them.”

I used to have some respect for NCSE for its work in rebutting some of the creationist blather. However, I was appalled when they took up climate change. IMO it “undermines” their positions on evolution by making it possible for reasonable people to conclude that they are simply another advocacy group. Actually, I suppose I should rephrase that to read: it makes them into another advocacy group.

Sadly most of the warmist I have met are are inflexible/intolerant and mean spirited, here we have more evidence of this in Gleick.
Good riddance to Gleick a hypocrite, what we have seen here is the tip of the ice berg, we will never know the full extent of his malfeasance and connivance, but be assured they are long and deep, as evidenced in his activism and good old Climategate emails. A leopard never changes his spots.

February 21, 2012 9:53 am

Having read it again, it would not surprise me that NCSE is involved in this, even if indirectly…

But remember, everything else is completely above board. Would a Mensch with a name like Gleick lie to you?

Anachronda:
No, faked {the strategy memo}, and inaccurate. Not only does the Heartland Institute state unequivocally that the memo is faked, the Heartland Institute seeks to have climate “science” taught in a manner which includes data, studies, peer reviewed articles from both a sceptical and a proponent’s side of the issue.
The issue of anthropogenic global warming is very much a matter of unsettled science, regardless of the spin put on it by most of the MSM outlets and the very vocal and often very well financially compensated AGW proponents who preach from a pulpit built on hundreds of millions of dollars, euros and pounds of grants and funding, not to mention the 300 million Al Gore has put into this effort.

So … Gleick received the Strategy document … created the day before DeSmogBlog published the whole Heartland Institute affair … AND THEN he perpetrated fraud to get his hands on supporting documentation? Something about his version just doesn’t add up. Even if he received a paper copy of the document and then scanned it in why would he create the PDF version with Joe Bast’s name on it? Why didn’t he just come forward from the beginning when questions were being raised about the Strategy document and address the reason the real Heartland Institute docs had differing metadata from the Strategy document? Oh … that’s right, because he knowingly committed fraud to get them!

So Gleick, in his hubris, attempted to prime the pump for a battle against Heartland that he intended to wage as a board member at NCSE by releasing a fake document that portrayed Heartland as an anti-science organization. This plan had the ultimate effect of undoing Gleick just when he should have been reaching the zenith of his career and casting him in the nadir of his career instead.
It’s a Gleick Tragedy.

Joe, I strongly assume that Gleick is some sort of immigrant from the Mediterranean….where
“Outsmarting” is regarded as normal attitude….there they select a Mayor of town, who outsmarts
the most of all……
But in the US, sneakyness and outsmarting has a very bad name, too many politicians
stumble and fall there, after doing this . really bad….Honesty is honored there in the US….

(1) Peter Gleick: “” My judgments are blinded by my frustrations…….”” ,
………and lets continue with:
(2) NCSE’s executive director Eugenie C. Scott: “ that NCSE was right to broaden its scope to include teachers of climate science…..” which we do without previous medical examinations of Warmist applicants…..and we do not check Warmist frustrations about “The End of Global Warming” and the “Onset of Global Cooling of the 21 Century ,,,,,,and once again made obvious the WARMIST’s BLINDING of JUDGEMENTS…..
…….To Mrs: Scott: My advice: Get medical check-up of Warmists or better still: Select a good sturdy Skeptic for all real and unblinded Climate Science advice…..

“My judgment was blinded by my frustration with the ongoing efforts — often anonymous, well-funded, and coordinated — to attack climate science and scientists and prevent this debate, and by the lack of transparency of the organizations involved” I’m not sure he thought he was describing here, but I think it applies more so to academia and other entities who espouse that CO2 is causing this massive warming – and no the other way around. He got off too light here – does wrong AND continues to proselytize.

“the Heartland Institute’s campaign to undermine the public’s understanding of climate science”
It appears to be some sort of announcement that individual citizens interested in science, unbeknownst to themselves, undergo a mental fusion process conjoining it with the “public understanding,” which is to be shaped, defined, and kept from being “undermined” by something called “climate scientists.”
The announcement continues that “climate scientists” have exclusive rights to all matters and minutia in the public classroom curricula regarding earth’s poorly understood weather systems.

‘Tis true. As I posted elsewhere- Gleick’s actions were foolish and pathetic. Try as one may to put a positive spin on this under the ruse of noble intentions, fact is the good doctor succumbed to his emotions. He will pay the price.

suppress the media….. then Gleick and his Warmist crowd [was he a “lone soul in planning the coup???”] will take another deserved beating…..
The only problem: This happened in many countries before: “What, if Gleicks “frustrations” and
“blinded judgments” augment and he will join the armed Black Warmist Tigers….?
Is this completely unthinkable?
…..Now with the media on his back, he might turn militant….. why should he only get mellow
and weep in depression and self-criticism?….
Everything is possible after his present mental suffering…- ask a medic….- and after the suffering of all Warmists, who try put themselves in his shoes…..

Excuse me. Seems the “scientists” have got their causality reversed here.
NCSE developed their coordinated attempts to undermine the teaching of climate science long ago, and have already released them for use by K-12 political indoctrinators. HI’s program, which is still a just proposed budget titem, is needed to thwart them.

Oh my. So the teaching of climate science automatically translates into the teaching the dogma of Anthropogenic Global Warming? Scott understands nothing about science.

February 21, 2012 10:29 am

I note with interest that they are not saying that he needed to be fired, but they are saying they were right to hire him in the first place. “[. . .] show that NCSE was right to broaden its scope to include the teaching of climate science.” That is a reference to Gleick’s hiring.
This combination of facts constitutes a dog-whistle call to greens and other socialists. Essentially they seem to be saying to their supporters not to think for one minute that they don’t support what Peter Gleick did.
So many on the left seem to be doubling down. This has got to be because of the present executive branch of the U.S. government. Those doubling down apparently believe that it is now open season and there will be no consequences.
Fixed voting machines definitely come to my mind at the moment. Also the Soviet Union.
AGW skeptics need to wake up to what is going on here and start accepting that it is as serious as I am portraying. They are almost all raising the stakes; they must have some reason to believe they are immune from serious consequences. Whether or not it is a good reason is another question. But they must have some reason.

Likewise, you can no longer register with DeSmogBlog without manual approval from the site because of “trolls” according to their email to me on my registration request.

Yes. When 100% of the people who say they’re practicing Discipline ABC agree on Doctrine XYZ, then you have to say that Discipline ABC automatically translates into Doctrine XYZ.
No point in saying that Climate Science ought to be based on truth; all Climate Scientists have been frauds and criminals from the start. The only solution is to eject the entire discipline from the realm of science, as medicine did with Homeopathy, and psychology did with Orgone Therapy.

If Gleick ends up being deposed under oath, I do hope the lawyer doing the questioning produces Gleick’s hatchet job “review” he wrote on Amazon of Donna’s book “Delinquent Teenager” and asks Gleick to testify whether he ever read the book before reviewing it. I think the question would be germane to both background knowledge and the character of the witness. Then he can be asked about his huffy and condescending protestations at Climate Etc claiming he had read the book prior to reviewing it.

I was shocked to read the word “undermined” taken from the falsified Heartland document in the press release as well as reasoning of the offender. What is going on at NCSE and in the classrooms ?
1. Heartland notified 3rd parties with the following:
“In the meantime, we ask again that publishers, bloggers, and Web site hosts take the stolen and fraudulent documents off their sites, remove defamatory commentary based on them, and issue retractions.”
2. Heartland has any right to engage in the process of developping K12 material, and, as they state in their real documents, they are well aware and willing to adhere to relevant standards.
3. The IPCC’s own investigation (The Inter Academy Report) reported significant errors in the IPCC reports and processes and beyond that criticized “confirmation bias” and was deeply critical of the way the IPCC, particularly Working Group II, handled and reported on uncertainty,

Joe at 2/12 10:03 is on to something very important.

So Gleick, in his hubris, attempted to prime the pump for a battle against Heartland that he intended to wage as a board member at NCSE by releasing a fake document that portrayed Heartland as an anti-science organization.

Heartland’s case against Gleick is about defaming and damages to its reputation. It is too great a coincidence that Gleick distribute stolen and faked documents concerning Heartland and its “teaching of climate science” just when he is about to sit as a board member at NCSE.
The pregnant question is, “What did Gleick say to NCSE about Heartland classroom strategies prior to getting the board appointment?” NCSE seems to have swallowed hook-line-and-sinker the concept that

“they [the documents (including the faked one?)] show that NCSE was right to broaden its scope to include the teaching of climate science. There really are coordinated attempts to undermine the teaching of climate science, and NCSE is needed to help to thwart them.”

How does E.C. Scott at NCSE come to that conclusion without the faked document or private potentially defaming discussions (from Gleick)? I think Scott at NCSE just opened itself to Heartland discovery motions.

NCSE accepts Gleick’s resignation, but they also accept a blatant forgery intended to smear Heartland as fact. They want to use the fabrication of a “campaign to undermine the public’s understanding of climate science” to justify themselves. That makes them as intellectually corrupt as Dr. Gleick.
The digital forensics needs to happen already. The preliminaries have already been crowdsourced. It will show that Gleick authored the “Strategy” memo, and planned its release with one or more DeSmogBlog staffers in advance. That is why only 38 minutes elapsed between Gleick’s Epson Scan metadata timestamp and DeSmogBlog’s posting of the files.
The whole story needs to be laid bare so that the accomplices are outed, and none of these apologists for Gleick’s crimes have any excuses. This is also for Dr. Gleick’s benefit, as his personal recovery can not proceed until a full accounting and amends have been made to the best of his ability. The healing begins only after all the pus is drained.

Al Gores ex operatives are involved!!!!
From Politco;
” Two sources in California — longtime Democratic operative Chris Lehane and Corey Goodman, a member of the Pacific Institute board of directors — confirmed to POLITICO that Gleick authored the Huffington Post blog confessing to be the source of the leak.
Lehane, Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign press secretary, is helping Gleick pro bono with communications issues. Gleick is represented by John Keker, a prominent San Francisco-based white collar criminal defense attorney.”
Now he has a professional spin-doctor on board and a powerful lawyer. I hope it’s enough; Gleick is in a world of trouble.

I am, probably, overly sentimental. When I look at Gleick’s photograph, I feel a bit of remorse. The poor sob must really believe in the quasi-religious stuff he is preaching, if he did such a stupid, self-damaging thing. I have to remind myself of billions of dollars that green swindlers are squeezing out of our pockets, to harden my judgement.
Hansen is a psycho, a religious fanatic. One of those who can be stopped only by force — no argument, fact, or consideration will ever change his mind. The fact that this mentally disturbed individual is a director of NASA’s Goddard Institute is a typical omen of our times: we live in the New Dark Ages.
I never feel any compassion looking at Mike Mann, though. I’ve dealt with his kind. I think he knows that he plays an important role in one of the largest scams in human history, and enjoys it. (Just look at the carefully prearranged avalanche of five-star reviews of his book on Amazon-com — they all appeared almost simultaneously, as soon as the book was announced, even before the book was in print; what a travesty!)
Though Michael Mann is afraid, too. They are all afraid now, green swindlers: somebody with an uncanny sense of irony seems to control the heart of the Sun.

February 21, 2012 11:42 am

Gleick expressed regret for his actions, writing, “My judgment was blinded by my frustration with the ongoing efforts — often anonymous, well-funded, and coordinated — to attack climate science and scientists and prevent this debate, and by the lack of transparency of the organizations involved. Nevertheless I deeply regret my own actions in this case. I offer my personal apologies to all those affected.”

So… let’s see. Poor, “heroic” Innocent, carrying out the duties of his office, mutely afflicted in his quotidian toil by the Great Evil malignantly and furtively denying Mankind his place in the Garden… til he could suffer it no more. Snapped. Struck out in his righteous indignation.
There are serious problems with the Billy Budd defense. Most obviously, Gleick had no impediment to his own speech, and no problems with his pedigree. He comes from an elite school, and is a highly articulate, lavishly-paid, well-groomed spokesman for Climate Change Catastrophism. He could try to make that defense, but I doubt that it’ll stick.
Well, one positive outcome of this sordid affair is Gleick’s resignation from the NCSE and any other educational organization. What he and his hypocritical pals are teaching to youngsters has a lot to do with the failure of secondary and the corruption of higher education today. Kids, your opinions, positions, and your words are for sale – and they can and will be bought, and if you are clever enough, you can surround yourself with an aura of golden beauty and still be home in time for a banquet fit for the Gods.

From Delingpole quoting Gleick.

“And while all scientists (and all people) make mistakes, good ones acknowledge their mistakes, correct them, and refine our knowledge. Bad ones dig in their heels, defending a faulty paradigm to the bitter end.”

Sounds very much like Warmist climate scientists to me. The 15 years of flat temps is getting them seriously worried and they won’t publicly admit it. Even if global mean temps started trending down they will more or else do what is quoted above in the last sentence. Science moves forward one funeral at a time.

Until today I had never heard of the NCSE. It struck me as rather bizarre. An entire organization devoted to teaching two unproven (and unprovable) theories – evolution and “climate science”. I was already in my 50s when when one day it occurred to me that I had been indoctrinated with the theory of evolution since I was a child. To this day I still believe in evolution because I’ve yet to encounter a persuasive alternative theory. But today I have a much more open mind for the theories offered by adherents of Intelligent Design. There are gaping holes in the theory of evolution and many mysteries unexplained by the fossil record or modern biology. Adaptation does not adequately explain with biologic specificity how one species transforms into another entirely different species. Still, I’m an evolution “believer” rather than a “denier”. I think it’s fine to teach the theory of evolution in schools provided it is taught as an unproven THEORY. It’s important to realize that the theory of evolution is “pretty new”…it’s only been around about 150 years (compare this to Newton). But the theory of evolution really doesn’t affect global economies, governments or standards of living. What’s more, evolution has much more convincing evidence to support it than AGW.
I find the teaching of “climate science” to kids in grades K-12 rather disturbing. I mostly ignored the AGW issue for a lot of years. I started out as a “believer”. Hell, it was a seemingly plausible theory (and at the time I didn’t listen to any talk radio). In 2005 I became interested in the subject of AGW and started buying and reading a lot of books on the subject. Obviously I became extremely skeptical but more importantly, by the time I started my own investigation I had already taken classes in college chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, biochemistry, physics, math (up to the calculus and differential equations), etc. I had a rather thorough background in basic sciences before I embarked on my own journey of discovery. How much “climate science” can you teach a kid in grades K-12? Probably none. But you CAN indoctrinate. And it’s not just the AGW nonsense, it’s the religion of environmentalism that’s being taught…and it’s being taught as absolute fact. That’s disturbing. Children should be taught biology, chemistry, physics and math in grades K-12. Couple this with critical thinking skills and they will be prepared to consider AGW and rabid environmentalism all on their own as young adults.
The fact that some particularly odious activist such as Gleick should involved with such an organization as NCES speaks volumes.

Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.
There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness. – **DeSmogBlog.com**

@Ecotretas – “Having read it again, it would not surprise me that NCSE is involved in this”
I think you’re spot on. Food for thought….
– NCSE’s forray into “Climate Change” was just launched last month. Prior to that they were prettymuch a one trick pony dealing exclusively with “creationism” in the classroom. What better way to draw attention (and stimulate $$$ contributions) than to have an evil, conservative opponent.
– Chris Mooney at DeSmogBlog was one of the first (if not the first) to publicise NCSE’s climate education initiative launch, with a blog post and interview with Eugenie Scott of NCSE. http://www.desmogblog.com/classroom-climate-battle-new-heavy-hitter-joins-fray.
– In his January post, Mooney notes “There Is No Clear “Opponent.” In the evolution fight, there was the Institute for Creation Research, and then the “intelligent design” promoting Discovery Institute. In the climate education battle, there is no central clearinghouse organization on the political right that is pushing global warming denial in schools. …”
– Mooney also wonders “…So how can she and her organization manage climate education conflicts profitably …”
– Now we have Gleick, the newly appointed member of NCSE’s board, (appointed specifically because of their new climate initiatives) at the center of a fraud to create a “clear opponent” and provide a wondefull springboard for NCSE’s climate launch.
I don’t know but it all seems more than a bit suspicious to me. Or maybe it’s just some kind of a 3 Stooges remake.

That is a good point. Who anointed guys like Gleick and NSCE as the sole arbiters of what should go into the science curricula of public elementary, middle, and high schools in this country? It is that arrogance more than anything that frosts me. It has led to a serious ethical and legal breach, which must somehow be addressed in the civil, if not criminal, courts.

I agree, that’s why they’ll want/need to have Gleick back. Check this out from Dr. Curry’s blog, she’s quoting the warm side:

Scott Mandia, a leader of the Climate Rapid Response Team, is quoted:
…”Heartland has been subverting well-understood science for years,” wrote Scott Mandia, co-founder of the climate science rapid response team. “They also subvert the education of our school children by trying to ;’teach the controversy’ where none exists.”He went on: “Peter Gleick, a scientist who is also a journalist just used the same tricks that any investigative reporter uses to uncover the truth. He is the hero and Heartland remains the villain. He will have many people lining up to support him.”

No, in their eyes he’s a hero and they aren’t going to let him go if they have anything to say about it.

Greg, this is possible, but since more of Gleicks peers, sitting on the same wire, will
fall within, lets say 3 years…..- I am sure, there is just too many climate villain peers
around – .. the IPCC will not give him support but would rather reject him, because he has a tainted shirt on, and figures like an uncovered spy in sleezy blackmail movies…..
The IPCC would rather look for PEER with a seemingly clean shirt on and who can hide, what is covered in his pants…..

Let’s consider for a moment, WWYD according to his version.
Let’s say one day I received an unsolicited e-mail about 350.org that summarized their program strategy (that oddly enough is written in a style very similar to my own). Do I: 1) Post on WUWT; 2) Attempt to verify the authenticity through criminal deception; 3) Notify 350.org that I’d received the email in error; 4) FW the email to Watts et al; 5) Delete the email; 6) Never see the email since it got caught in the spam filter; 7) Be converted to an alarmist upon reading the email; 8) Poke around the internet to see if it’s something that’s public or “secret” or 9) FW the email to Watts et al anonymously?
Well, if I got past #6, I think I would do #8 and then if I thought I had something 350.org didn’t want to be public knowledge I’d do #4 using my normal email for more thorough investigation.
So, if he’d just FW the e-mail he says he got to DeSmog would he be in anywhere near the predicament he’s in now? I say no, he wouldn’t. DeSmog might still be in a bit of predicament if they didn’t disclose the shaky source and published as authentic document, but Gleick would be hunky dory. This is not a hard one to figure out. Therefore, I strongly suspect his version is hogwash. This is glimpse into his fantasy world similar to the “No Pressure” video, he believes that skeptics really know better but are intentionally misleading people, so that’s the way he wrote it.

I used to have some respect for NCSE for its work in rebutting some of the creationist blather.
###
Boy have you drank the cool-aid. NCSE is all about resisting the concept that the Bible and science do not conflict unless you take a very particular interpretation of each. They are very desires (along with the Center for Creation Studies working from the other end, but just as slimy) of keeping Christians on the Creationist( as defined by lefties) plantation. It ain’t working and the are getting desperate. They also push a version of evolution that has little to do with science. It is more of a Marxist fantasy as to what evolution is then anything that evolutionary biologist study. The teaching of evolution in HS for example, is little more then a platform for bashing Christianity.
And don’t get me started on “Intelligent Design”. This is another product of left propaganda that is fed to Christians who tend eat it because it sounds reasonable and they believe it is Christian. In reality it is a straw man heavily overloaded with meaning that is ignored by Christians but used by lefties to blow it down. Intelligent Design is not even a theory, most Christians who are not anti-evolution, don’t think its a theory, but the lefties go on about the latest Christian theory and how stupid it is. Just read the non-sense written by that looser at Skeptical SciFi.

What evidence do you have that “all Climate Scientists have been frauds and criminals from the start”. Are Anthony Watts, Willis Eschenbach, Steve McIntyre, Richard Lindzen, Roger Pielke Sr, John Christy, Roy Spencer etc frauds and criminals? I think not. You sir are delusional.

THANK YOU ALL – I just posted the following at Lucia’s Blackboard, inspired nearly entirely by the posters here.
I have just waded through many comments on the WUWT thread http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/02/21/ncse-accepts-gleicks-resignation/
I was simply reading until a comment at 11:16 by Stephen Rasey went through a tremendous string of analysis and concluded with, “How does E.C. Scott at NCSE come to that conclusion without the faked document or private potentially defaming discussions (from Gleick)? I think Scott at NCSE just opened itself to Heartland discovery motions.”
INDEED! That caught my attention.
A little later, Richdo @12:00 pm goes through another marvelous string of fact that includes, “Chris Mooney at DeSmogBlog was one of the first (if not the first) to publicise NCSE’s climate education initiative launch, … [but] notes “There Is No Clear “Opponent.” In the evolution fight, there was … Discovery Institute[and other]. In the climate education battle, there is no central clearinghouse organization … pushing global warming denial in schools. … So how can [NCSE] manage climate education conflicts profitably …” “- Now we have Gleick, the newly appointed member of NCSE’s board, (appointed specifically because of their new climate initiatives) at the center of a fraud to create a “clear opponent” and provide a wondefull springboard for NCSE’s climate launch.”
And finally, DirkH says to the original “Joe @ 10:03”, “VERY GOOD! You found the motive. So we KNOW now that -this was not masterplanned to blow up in their faces like it did. -the left/warm media are just winging it as good as they can”
So back to read what Joe actually said at 10:03:
“So Gleick, in his hubris, attempted to prime the pump for a battle against Heartland that he intended to wage as a board member at NCSE by releasing a fake document that portrayed Heartland as an anti-science organization. This plan had the ultimate effect of undoing Gleick just when he should have been reaching the zenith of his career and casting him in the nadir of his career instead.
It’s a Gleick Tragedy.”
My own opinion has been greatly affected by these posters and I believe if others who have been mulling over this event, it may greatly affect them, too. If I were Heartland, I would immediately subpoena for all NCSE documents and communications with Gleick and Dessmogblog, since it seems clear that NCSE and Gleick have clear motivation for producing that particular fraudulent document given his intended association with them before his incredibly rapid discovery.

February 21, 2012 4:44 pm

You would think the NCSE would know what the scientific method is. The comment by the executive director appears to demonstrate they don’t. By taking on the political, not scientifically based, AGW argument they show they are not interested in science education. Perhaps scientific indoctrination. My understanding is that science is about questioning.

What I was suggesting wasn’t helping were comments of yours such as
“I strongly assume that Gleick is some sort of immigrant from the Mediterranean….where
“Outsmarting” is regarded as normal attitude….”
Stereotyping an individual because of the geographic region in which they happened to be born is bad enough, making such assumptions about someone when you don’t even know where they are from is moronic.
Before slurring people from an entire geographic region you couldn’t even be bothered to find out if Gleick is a Mediterranean name.
It isn’t, it’s origins are Bohemian and it doesn’t sound remotely Mediterranean. Gleik himself was born in the US.
By “not helping” I meant that if you wanted to help warmists to paint sceptics as dim-witted racists and bigots who can’t be bothered with facts and instead rely on prejudice, well congratulations you’ve handed them some ammunition on a plate.
I hope that you are clearer about what I meant now.

Never heard of you before Gleick , but you are an anti-science organization .
I am disgusted to see the phrase “Heartland Institute’s campaign to undermine the public’s understanding of climate science” .
Heartland is only stepping in to rectify the retardation of math and science teaching sanctioned by frauds like youall .
It is criminal that kids matriculate from elementary school fearing the molecule which is the foundation of life . Does your curriculum teach them that life would only exist on earth because all the O2 we animals require was locked up in CO2 until photosynthesis evolved facilitating the explosion of green life which drove CO2 down to its current levels just a couple of times that necessary to support life ?
Do you recommend teaching high school physics students the basic calculations of radiant heat transfer so they know how to calculate the temperature of a gray ball in our orbit — so they understand that we are only about 9 centigrade above that number ? Do you recommend making sure they understand the basic fact that it does not matter how light or dark a gray the ball is ? Do you suggest including lab experiments proving these facts , hands on ?
Don’t you have any competent physicist among your advisors ?
What a destructive fraud you have turned into even if you began properly defending genetic evolution .

Just for the record, I have never ever bieeevld in Man Made Globull Warming. So the above mentioned sums go a long way to explain why so many do.But how is it spent. On fundamental research such as Argo, PR, Marketing, Politics, Advocacy, with the balance gifted to solar/wind frauds or carbon trading scams.Yet, despite these vast sums nobody can really define Eco Friendly or Sustainable or Balance. For example what really is the difference between a Rock and a Plastic bag in a landfill? Everything man has ever used is still here. It has not disappeared. There is maybe even more forest now than there was in 1900. The real problem is we need to do things better, produce less toxins and repair the damages that we do and that is easy enough. Is it really so difficult to turn the basic thinking around from Dont do that , Ban this , Prohibit that to lets just fix it, do this, build that. Looking at all that Money, none of it is available for solutions, fixes, improvements. None.Just a tiny fraction of those vast sums mentioned above would launch Thorium reactors, be a game changer. O.K. thats really cutting edge but really is it any more far out than Argo/The group I work with have secured a Government contract, to employ three proven organic technologies that will reduce carbon emissions, stop water table pollution, repair damaged land, increase yields and improve animal health all with instant cost benefits. The absolute results will be demonstrated in four to six weeks. However, instead of full speed ahead, lets do this. its painfully slow, step by step as nobody can provide funding and by funding i talk of dollars and cents. Loads of grants available but not for doing things only for research. I went to one of the big guys, mentioned here. They just gave 100 million to climate works, looked at their criteria. Doing things not mentioned or even encouraged This is the problem, its a mind set, a lock step. The billions spent and wasted on non existent problems. Look at the passion, sentient people pushed, they made me do it , to fraud, deception, self immolation. Why? For what?Look at Heartland, compare it, just the chart above, David and Goliath is really understating it. Its a tidal wave, a Tsunami and one that needs to be stopped in its tracks. Now.Please, stop, think and get to see the wood for the trees. The truth certainly helps but is it enough. What more, ethically and Honestly can be done. I really am speechless but not bowed. The efforts of sites like this are a great step forward but the successes it achieves are very small compared with the clearly vast scale of the problem that it seeks to address. More thinking outside the box i needed, more positive ideas, more affirmative action of the caring human kind is required.
