China is not our friend and never will be. Those who rise to the top there are brutally competitive. Our big corporations have used government regulations to create markets and effectively shielded from competition. We can win if we let small companies grow into large ones. Current regulatory and tax conditions are not favorable.

The bottom line of all this climate control activism was always, if you stood way back to get some perspective on their goals, whether the activists were willing to invade and conquer — or commit other acts of war against — those who were stubbornly unwilling and uncooperative. If the answer to this is “No”, then climate activists are fundamentally unserious about what they claim to want.

One person used the right word, extortion. Blackmail involves the release of embarrassing or implicating information.

Does this situation say more about about the IPCC warmists or the Chinese communists?

Sounds like the plot for a bad made-for-the-SyFy-channel movie-of-the-week, or maybe a ‘Matt Helm’ reboot.

This is unfair. The flaw in the agreement actually encouraged the Chinese manufactures to keep on producing Freon base products that were NOT needed.
It became more profitable to produce, never sell or use them and then destroy the HFC-23.
Therefore you have full employment in the manufacture and destruction of the same product Paid for by the Western economy’s. Money for nothing and your scam for free!
On a final note these products are safe to use as pointed out in the Ozone/ Dupont patent scam.
A loophole in an important part of the Kyoto Protocol has cost nearly $6 billion, suggests new research. The loophole will now be closed, say officials.
The problem relates to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). This scheme allows investors in countries that have Kyoto Protocol targets to buy carbon credits by investing in projects that reduce emissions in developing countries. The credits are essentially permits to pollute in their own countries.
The controversy centres on the inclusion of refrigerant-producing factories that generate the powerful greenhouse gas HFC 23 as a by-product. Many of these factories are in China, where investors can get CDM credits for destroying HFC 23, a relatively cheap process.
Critics of this practice say it is very wasteful to use the CDM to ensure destruction of HFC 23, when it would be far cheaper to simply give the factories the money to install the equipment to destroy the gas.

Get rid of the bribes. All they do is transfer money from the average taxpayer to the rich. (How socialism always seems to work)
If you want to get rid of cattle feed lots, then get rid of the farm subsidies for grain. The money actually ends up in the pockets of Monsanto, the grain traders, the meat packers and not in the pocket of the typical farmer.

Why the heck should WE pay for Al Gore, the World Bank, other banks, WWF, Hedge funds, and US universities endowment funds to BRIBE corrupt officials into evicting indigenous people from their farmland so we can plant an invasive biodiversity destroying tree like Eucalyptus grandis???

Since the Chinese are doing this for money, not religious fervor, it should be safe to assume they are not suicide bombers. Therefore, they either:

B.) are sure from their own studies, the the additional HFC-23 will not cause any additional global “climate change” ( though they should think about local consequences).

The freon story is a complete hoax too!
The success of the montreal protocol based on “bad science” as open the way to the anthropic origine of the global warming hoax !
For, the chinese something is clear, they have been cheated since they have builds factory to produce freon if they manage to get some refund nothing surprising .

Kind of reminds me of the enlightened opportunism my friend’s son showed when his elementary school was trying to teach the class how to manage money. The school gave the class members each a certain amount of fake money. The object was for them to make deals with each other and see who had the most money at the end.
So my friend’s son sold all his fake money to them for real money.

Actually I think this is great news. By exposing the moral corruption and intellectual bankruptcy of carbon offsetting, as well as demonstrating the potential for shakedowns like this one, the insanity of a scheme which pays firms huge sums to dispose of something they need to dispose of anyway is laid bare before an incredulous public. It will be very hard to defend carbon trading schemes in future without having this sordid little episode thrown in your face.
As for the HFC 23 -go ahead, make my day.

I have a stupid question. It’s my understanding that difluoromethane and AC mixtures that contain it, render the newer air conditioners less energy-efficient than the older designs that use politically incorrect freons. Is that right?
If so, and if the stories about the Anthropogenic Chloro-organic and Bromo-organic Ozone-Eating Monsters are accurate, then these newer refrigerants pose an interesting trade-off: energy efficiency vs skin cancer risk reduction in certain parts of the world.

I’ve been saying for over 25 yrs that they cannot be trusted but we’ve gone ahead and enriched them beyond their wildest dreams, crow about our “freedoms” while turning a blind eye to their enslavement of a significant percentage of their population so our Nikes and iPhones can be 25% cheaper and there are no repercussions for decades of industrial espionage. Take a dose of history. Conditions for the majority workers of the factories producing megabucks for the owners in England were dire, the East India company expropriating the wealth of India allowed millions to starve in a famine because the British elite decided that handouts would depress the price of rice, the first concentration camp was set up by the British in South Africa where they rounded up the women and children of the Boars during their grab for the discovered gold, and the Boars and the British treated the native population with callous disdain to their human rights and ownership of lands, the opium trade in China was to undermine their population to get a foot hold into lucrative pillaging of China’s resources through aggressive trade, etc., etc. If you’re not British, look to your own country’s history, for example American imperialism is well-documented.
Why should the Chinese trust you?
NB, there were exceptions to the factory enslavement of the people in Britain, the Quaker industries for example.

The enclosures which properly house the offspring of boars, are called “pens” (pig pens to be exact). This is not inhumane but quite proper treatment of and for piglets and sows. It should never be referred to as a “concentration” camp, even though that is exactly what it is.
The Boer (dutch word for farmer) were quite good at raising swine, as are the Chinese. GK

Articles like this that are substantially void of original content lowers your Google Search ranking.
A good rule of thumb is that if quoted content exceeds original content it’s not a good idea to publish it. In this article the ratio is close to 3:1 in the wrong direction.
I don’t mean to pick on Tisdale as the last article he wrote was so much longer than this one I thought it far too long for a blog and it was almost all original content. So Bob’s average orginal content to quoted content is exemplary in this regard AFAIK.
Another thing you want to avoid like the plague is related to this. It’s the practice of allowing guest authors to reproduce their blog articles here for the wider exposure and/or obtaining permission to reproduce articles you deem important. It doesn’t matter who solicits who. Google frowns on it and will punish the both of you.
So if you must do this (I understand the motivation) the better way to do it is provide only a link to the article on the original blog and an original synopsis of why you think it important for WUWT readers. You don’t get penalized for using plenty of bling to grab attention just keep the original wordcount in your favor.
I didn’t compare the fall from grace with the proliferation of guest authors that began about a year ago but it might be worth the time to see if there’s any correlation. I noted myself not long thereafter that the quality had fallen off with them and suggested that an informal peer review for guest articles before publication here would be beneficial.

I disagree. It bears little resemblance to a concentration camp unless the boars therein were born in the wild. Concentration camps are where people (or animals) who were once free to range at will are forcibly confined to a smaller area.
Whether it’s inhumane or not depends on whether the animals are treated well and given a painless death. Generally speaking animals raised for human consumption would never have been born without human intervention. Based on the premise that a short happy life is better than no life at all then it’s not inhumane. What’s inhumane is fostering their creation then giving them no respect as sentient living things before we consume them. Nature is cruel. People can rise above primal cruelty.
