24 Hours of Climate Reality: Gore-a-thon – Hour 24

A new post containing a cartoon from Josh will appear every hour. At the end of the 24 hours, everything will be collated on a single page. Readers are encouraged to post skeptical arguments below, as well as offer comments on what has been seen from the Climate Reality Project so far.

——-

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

How much money did Gore rake in for the few Red Herrings he offered in the Climate Reality Project?

The world may never know. But we can ask questions about the number of people that actually watched. Our own Charles the Moderator points out the disparity between the CRP Facebook page and the CRP live page.

First, the left sidebar of the Facebook page for the event, which you can see yourself here. This was captured late in hour 22:

OK, compare those numbers to the numbers showing up on the CRP live page, also captured late in hour 22, where it shows nearly 7 million as noted by an enthusiastic commenter in the social stream window.

Note the yellow highlights on the numbers for likes, tweets, and “number of views”. It does seem pretty hard to reconcile the disparity between those numbers.

As we noted last night on WUWT, that “number of views” counter never goes down, so it’s cumulative for certain. It also clicks up at a tremendous pace. It is almost as if the counter is tied into the social stream and chat stream in addition to the actual views. I wonder if it counts these each time a comment is made?

And then there’s this from the Ustream statistics page at http://www.ustream.tv/user/climatereality/info-stats on the event. First, our screencap from last night:

Now today, just as hour 23 begins:

I have no idea why the Ustream stats page for the event doesn’t reflect more views. But, like with the entire global warming issue it seems there’s a lot of uncertainty, a lot of hype, and a lot of inflated numbers. I look forward to seeing the final numbers from Ustream.

In the meantime, perhaps readers can help with this mystery.

One final note, there’s a lag in reporting of at least one day, possibly more, but going into the event, the CRP didn’t seem to have a lot of traction:

You can see the comparison for yourself here:

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/climaterealityproject.org+wattsupwiththat.com

I’ll update this when the final numbers to Alexa come in.

====================

Josh put a lot of work into these cartoons, so if you like the work, drop by the tip jar. Unlike Gore’s CRP, he won’t spam you asking for more. Buy him a beer, he’s worked a long time bringing us enjoyment with only some “attaboys” sent his way.

I am so glad there are only 24 hours in a day!
Anthony, Josh: Kudos to you. I learned and laughed a lot more coming here!

Good job guys!

Well Anthony, you managed the mammoth 24 hour stint and provided us with plenty of entertainment and enlightenment. I even held my breath and visited the Goracle site, managed all of 30 seconds and then left feeling soiled.
Ad Victorem Spolias as they say in Rome, and WUWT certainly deserve them.

…Maybe we could get Michael Mann to graph it for us? I’m sure there’ll be a hockey looking trend from about hour 20 on….
I admit to watching about 5 minutes before they went to Dubai…and it was the most boring waste of 5 minutes I’ve spent since cleaning the toaster. (at least I had a clean toaster when I was done)

Who needs facts when you have belief, if St Gore says it was 3 billion is was 3 billion

Thanks for hosting this play-by-play. The whole affair certainly passed quietly in my neck of the woods and among those I associate with.
Thankfully it is over. May I suggest a self-imposed WUWT ban on anything Gore related for a day just to give us all a chance to recover?

Al thinks the answer is 42 but no-one has a clue what the question was.

Al says the 2003 Europe heat wave were a 1 in 10,000 year event. Gee, those climate records are really long. There’s Homo Sapiens and now Homo Climatensis (a very ancient species of climate researcher).

September 15, 2011 4:29 pm

I think that the Climate Reality Project (CRP) was misnamed it should have been the Climate Reality Al Project (CRAP) then it would have been more accurate.

I really though Theo was going to end up getting disillusioned with the Goreacle, and eating him, so I’m a tad disappointed. Still he’s probably got enough red herrings to feed his family for a few cold northern winters.

Could it be that Big Al’s Last Stand was witnessed ONLY by sceptics who were curious to see him make a fool of himself? Or who remember him at all?

Well since algore brought up tropical storms being a ‘new normal’ in Vermont…
Nice list of similar on page 6 here: http://www.vermonthistory.org/journal/70/vt701_204.pdf
Came across this too, just about the hurricane of ’38 (didn’t read this one at all, no idea if it’s good): http://www.rms.com/publications/1938_Great_New_England_Hurricane.pdf

Just wunderin’ did anyone notice or keep track of what was left out of this latest version of the inconvenient truth. Did Mann’s stick appear? CO2 and temp levels?

September 15, 2011 4:52 pm

I think what we have learned from this is that Al’s biggest effort cannot match WUWT’s normal daily coverage. If only the world’s politicians weren’t in awe of him, he’d be a has been.

September 15, 2011 4:52 pm

The counter looks like a sum total of every possible interaction, be it social/video/plain page view – it could be easily counting web crawlers as valid visitors for all we know or automated feed readers… i.e. basically meaningless figure of significance.

This bore-a-thon must be the biggest load of CRAP (good one Climate Observer!) ever. Oh DJ there is a Mann hockey stick; see graph above titled “dailyreach % climate reality project.org”.
Is this a pathetic attempt at subliminal propaganda?

I watched the brief video of Mz. RI and some moron pretending to be knowledgeable on sea-level. Beyond that, I got my laughing points from here. So, I only have one question. Can it possibly be true that the entire 24 hrs was as content free as it seemed?

Well, do you suppose that 24 hour orgy of gooey green global warming gnosticism finally released Al Gore’s 2nd chakra? I’ll bet he’s lounging next to his heated outdoor pool, having a post-climate-coitus smoke right now…. from the Gore family’s private tobacco reserves, of course.

I think that a better anacronyn would be Climate Reality Awareness Project. Then Al and company could bark about getting funding for the Fast Action Response Team.

September 15, 2011 5:27 pm

Some great cartooning! In his twilight years (tomorrow) Gore can look back and say he was thoroughly Joshed.
ice “flow” or “floe”?

So, Gore makes $100 million with his climate change movie, and now wants people to contribute more.
Why doesn’t Gore donate the $99 million of his own money? After all this would still leave him with almost $1 million more than most of the people he is asking to donate have. If he really think that Climate is such a threat, what good will keeping that $100 million do him? He should donate $99 million of it right now and really demonstrate how serious he is.
After all, who has contributed more? The rich man that gives $100 from his millions, or the poor old woman that gives her last nickel? The Bible tells us the poor old woman is the bigger contributor, but could be that Gore flunked divinity school.

According to Al “armist” Gore – 9.6 billion tuned in for his webcast. Not sure if they were humans or passing Amoeba though

So, not much audience for Al. Maybe he could do better going on the Tonight Show. Jay could ask him a few questions about AGW. They could air it during the “Jaywalking” segment.

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear
You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that
grow around you
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
The world’s about to be destroyed
There’s no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve
Around you
Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your
pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish
If I had just one last wish
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing
We would all have learned to sing
Come one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side
In life’s great gene pool
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks
for all the fish

Oh, Geez – I hate to do this…but it’s ice ‘floe’ not ‘flow’. (Fantastic work, Josh.)
I can only imagine that a huge proportion of the clicks and viewings and so forth for Al’s latest effort were generated by WUWT.

If the CRP live page was running an auto-refresh then every time the page was updated it could up the counter too.

Phew – good that algore is sinking back into oblivion (I wish).
Sad that there are no more cartoons to laugh over.
Mind, Josh – you take a rest now! Recuperate physically and creatively from this Josh-a-thon.
Thanks for the amazing feat, Anthony. Learning while laughing must be the best thing ever.
Thanks all you commenters here: you made my day.
(Btw – I think the spikes in algore’s web traffic graphs are due to us, having a look and a grin.)

6,912,739 views? What are we talking about here, a brisk Sunday morning on the WUWT servers? 🙂
Well done everyone, now it’s definitely time to get some sleep. It’s okay, the Gore under the bed won’t come for you!

I’ve just woken up. Did I miss anything?

September 16, 2011 2:11 am

Hilarious, Grey’s Anatomy second and third seasons averaged around 19 million viewers.
Maybe if Al had invited Dr. House to make a guest appearance, the rating would have imporved.
No, I didn’t watch one second of Gory 24, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ left me speechless and unwell.

Not even the still chronically alarmist German newspapers have reported anything of Al Gore’s CRP. Somehow I think he’s a persona non grata now in CAGW circles.

September 16, 2011 3:30 am

If it wasn’t for WUWT I wouldn’t even have known about Al’s Gore-a-Thon, and they would have missed one brief visit.

This is hilarious. Here according to the alexa website, the “audience snapshot” says this:
“Based on internet averages, climaterealityproject.org is visited more frequently by females who are over 65 years old, have no children and are graduate school educated.”
Now THAT is a select pool of visitors.
