Our rebuttal of Al Gore’s 24 hours of Climate Reality aka the Gore-a-thon is On-The-Air. Josh is leading the charge chortles. We’ll have a new Josh cartoon, along with commentary, graphs and links every hour starting at 5PM PST to match the starting time of the CRP. They appear below this post.

Every time Al Goracle has an event, there seems to be an extreme cold weather associated with his location. Since this is a ‘world wide’ event, should I expect a global cold snap?

What we need is a Normality Anomaly. This will allow us to measure the change from the old normal to the new normal.
The Normality Anomaly will be funded by Big Bad, because that’s what is normally claimed to happen in the old normal. But the Normality Anomaly will gradually change to funding by Big Good as we move to the new normal.
Mankind will use this important measure to make important decisions about reality.

I think Al is making a huge blunder.
The committed non professional alarmists have no idea whet they must believe to accept that there is a possible catastrophe in the next 100 to 200 years.
They are not aware that CO2 is a poor greenhouse gas and that DOUBLING CO2 from all sources would only produce .4 ° C of warming which is far from being a problem, and might even be beneficial.
The huge positive feedbacks which are necessary for a catastrophe have never been observed up to this time so why should they occur in the future ?
Up to now the warming has been about 1/2 ° C per century and recently it has stopped. The ocean level has refused to rise as predicted and has had the audacity to GO DOWN in the last year or two.
He’s really creepy.

May I remind folks again that when Gore accuses skeptic scientists of corruption, he places all his eggs in a single basket.
He says they are in a conspiracy to “reposition global warming as theory rather than fact” which supposedly mimics an old U.S. tobacco industry conspiracy to downplay the health hazards of smoking. In the exclusive article I wrote for ClimateDepot, I detailed how that “reposition global warming” accusation phrase (spelled out full screen in Al Gore’s movie) is 1) based on a 1991 memo no one was allowed to see, 2) it is an out-of-context sentence, promoted by a person who was not a Pulitzer winner despite accolades to the contrary, 3) Al Gore credited that person with finding the memo, and, 4) Gore had the memo collection in his own possession in 1991 or ’92 at his Senate office years before that person. I’d strongly suggest that Gore is highly vulnerable on his underlying science, he is even more vulnerable on this accusation.

That’s true of course but discussing the rate actually makes it sound like a lot more is happening than there is. Boil it down to grand totals at the data endpoints. What is the bottom line? How much warming total since the Industrial Revolution began or Little Ice Age ended? Less than a degree C. Period.
To which I say: Less than a degree in 130+ years? That’s it? That’s what this is about? Take your trillion dollar fantasy and shove it. We got more important things to worry about!.
Obviously that approximately 1° C is even questionable due to UHI and cherry picking, not to mention the fact that perhaps all of it would have happened anyway from the natural post-LIA trajectory. Perhaps it should have warmed 2° C naturally and humans somehow stalled it. Who’s to say?
The fact that the professional catastrophicists and AGW cultists have based their religion on less than a degree warming in 130+ years is the real story to me. This is Science Fiction, and it parallels L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology in so many ways, except one – I do not think Scientologists would ever consider it sane to try to use the world’s governments as the facilitator of their operation.

I have judged many in my circle of acquaintances as to their judgements by testing them with Gore. Some seemed OK without actually knowing them very well, but Gore was a good bellwether.

Those who are of the avid FB and/or twittering-kind might want to take appropriate precautions considering the following (which I had previously posted in S&B story goes viral a few days ago, but which seems appropos here, for those who might have missed it):
The fallout from Wagner’s ludicrous resignation seems to have buried any scrutiny of Al Gore’s latest and greatest attempt to “win the conversation” using (according to Matt Nisbet) “a potentially innovative if not also troubling strategy” to spread the gospel word during his planned Sept.14 “climate crisis” propaganda blitz.
Gore’s “friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your account keys” plea is tantamount to a plan to spam via Twitter and Facebook using the accounts of his dedicated followers.

Can’t someone call these Gore-ite conspiracy and defamation experts on the carpet and make them put up or apologize and shut-up?
Do “Big Oil” and “Big Coal” really have more to fear than the Big Green and Big Al have to show about their personal financial interests and lobbying efforts?
I tried to watch the videos, I swear to Gore I tried, but after just a few seconds I felt my head starting to explode…

An inconvenient truth, Al forgets to mention a large portion of his family wealth was derived from oil. Nice one Al!
At the risk (ok, it’s a certainty) of being considered a bit crude, I’d like to make an open suggestion to all the thermophobes. Given that methane has a much stronger greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide, and that many thermophobes have taken to vegetarianism which commonly has the effect of producing a lot of intestinal gas, I urge that these people make a habit of lighting their farts wherever they happen to be when flatulence overtakes them. This will result in the burning of the methane into less calamitous plant food.
I hope against hope that Josh finds this suggestion a suitable topic for a nice cartoon.
I read a poll recently that only about 40% of the population in the USA believe “global warming” is a problem. If just half that lot donate $10 then Al stands to clear $600,000,000. Nice, if you can get it.

The biggest ‘scandal’ in the horn of Africa is not the drought, but the population explosion. There have always been famines in the horn of Africa, it is a part of the climate system there. But since the ’73 famine, where there was massive foreign aid, they have managed to treble the population in the region. So they complain about starvation and plead for help – then treble the population and complain about starvation and plead for help.
One of the key attributes of human civilisation is to plan ahead for future calamities, including food supply and population levels. But if you want to be an unthinking lemming, then just jump off the cliff when the populations gets too high.

The 2nd video, “Denial Hits the Fan”, while loaded with climate bedwetter symbolism is bizarre, with little logic to it. We have: 1) An old-fashioned oil derrick running the whole Goldbergian show, which starts up a 2) black soot-spewing truck diesel motor which operates a 3) small fan (representing wind power?), blowing towards 4) Earth. It certainly confirms the idea that they are staunchly anti-industry, and anti-fossil-fuels. The whole idea that “Big Coal” and “Big Oil” are behind what they like to call “climate denial” is both Orwellian and deliciously absurd. The actuality is, of course, that the climate bedwetters have not only been flinging their climate CR(a)P in huge quantities for years, but have been carpet-bombing humanity with it, via the MSM. ALGore’s own little 24-hour carpet-bombing stint is simply laughable in its scope and pretentiousness. But, with the Warmist Empire coming to an end, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Al’s best performance appears to be his GW in 10 minutes at 342,115 views. The X-factor has Paul Potts at 82,352,761 views. American Idol has Lauren Alaina and Scotty Mccreery at 2,371,511 views. Glee has Don’t Stop Believing at 6,820,382 views. I only looked at the first pages except for Gore where I looked as far as boredom let me. It would appear that the number one concern of modern youth is not climate change. (Please add in your own error bars and fudge factors, and a sprinkle of soot to make the result look better.)
Maybe sometime during the Gore 24 hr fest he will join hands around a simulated campfire (don’t want any nasty CO2) with his closest acolytes and sing kumbaya.

When “science” becomes a badly produced cartoon video, run, do not walk, to the nearest exit. I remember watching sex ed cartoons in high school, compared with the one I watched as a college freshman. The former was filled with jokes and little naked blobby figures telling us what not to do. The college film was filled with actual photos of STD’s along with testimonials and infection rates over time. Guess which one kept my Catholic sins in check.
The current state of climate models, public propaganda films and the persona emanating from Gore reminds me of the cartoonish sex ed videos. The “both sides” discussions and posts in blogs like this one make me think, ponder, and keep searching for more information. I do wish however, that folks here on both sides would stick to primarily serious debate instead of drive bys. I enjoy the tongue in cheek pithy comment now and then but, and you know who you are, those that only do drive bys are ignored by me as being less than informed no matter which way they swing.

Short answer, Jim – yes. My (UK) Windows Date/Time thing shows Saturday and Sunday together on the right, Monday to the left. However, as soon as I looked at it again, it reminded me that I’d always found that presentation rather strange, as most of the other calendars I’ve ever seen in the UK (and I live here!) put Sunday at the left. Perhaps, as I remember my old mathematics teacher saying, “In general, nothing can be said”.

DDT is one example
I understand the the greens effectively had asbestos removed from tower one and prevented its use in tower two. (This claim is subject to confirmation. Apparently, an alternative was used before it had undergone the necessary tests to prove its suitability.
I am certain that there are many more instances where the green influence has had disastous effects.
Burning food for oil is another example.
Aquisition of neodymium for use in wind turbines at the cost of massive poltution in whole villages in china.
There have to be many many more.
Lets pull them all together and get the information out via twitter or E-Mails etc.

Des Moines all time record Sept low is 33. They could hit that or lower the morning of the 15h over 2 weeks before the month ends and before the equinox. There are few things in weather I look at and cant believe, but if you go back and look at early season cold outbreaks, and then look at what is being forecasted Thursday morning by the nam and GFS its simply jaw dropping, almost too cold to be true in such a large area.
With all the water in the ground, the earliest cases of rime icing ever recorded could greet people in the interior northeast on Saturday.

Hey, Joe, Thanks for posting. I have been trying to draw attention to the unseasonably cool weather from St. Louis north. For the last two weeks of August, St. Louis enjoyed May temperatures. So far, September has been just as unseasonably cool yet it is still summer time. Well, guess what happens Wednesday? St. Louis dives right into October temperatures. When was the last time that this happened? In the lead up to the disastrous winters of 1976-79, of course. I expect the same this winter.

Of course. The purpose of carbon taxes to increase the price of coal (more co2 per unit of energy) as compared to oil, which will increase the demand for oil, and thus the price. Getty Oil ends up one of the big winners.
The rest of us lose big time, because there is a lot more cheap coal than there is cheap oil. Oil is close to 10 times the price of thermal coal, and there is a couple of hundred years supply of coal without even looking for more reserves. No-one but no-one is talking about “peak coal”
Ever since the fecal matter hit the rotary oscillator with climategate, it has been flying in all directions with no end in sight.

As of now there are cattle ranches that are out of stock pond water for the first time in West Texas from the time of the first fences to now.

No climate change to note. Sure, sometimes it’s hotter, sometimes it’s colder. Sometimes it rains a lot, sometimes there’s a drought. But we have books and letters, newpapers and Christmas cards that record the climate in snapshots, in line and in verse. It’s the same old “same old” here in Small Town, U.S.A. Looking forward to a nice snappy cold winter!

Ok. I don’t know anything about this event except I heard about it while basking in my pool on Sunday. The temperature was in the high 70’s F. Recalling the Gore effect, I immediately got out and started draining it to the proper level. I drained the pumps and filters and towelled everything away for the winter. This was all done and the pool was put to bed by last evening. We got the first overnight frost of the season in Manitoba last night. Thanks Al for the timely warning.
It’s almost 9 am Pacific time, and so far no sign of Al Gore on my Facebook feed. I have 204 friends, many of whom are pretty liberal… but not a peep from the Goreacle. Just been reading two papers.
The first is where Mann et al claim that sulfur emissions are the reason for the lack of warming and the second – Carslaw et al – which is the source of his certainty.
The warming effect of CO2 is offset by the cooling effect of the sulphur .
Obviously there are 300 papers on the topic and thousands of pieces of observational data to support this claim, right?
No there ain’t. He got the number from his models, right?
Carslaw et al says “the effect of sulfur aerosols has been little studies and is poorly understood.
Where did the 26% come from?

20. Years ago Gore appeared on the earth and announced he had decided to bring Doomsday forward as there was much money to be made in the meantime by owning shares in useless measures he would be actually also be paid to sprout about and this would be funded by governments (taxpayers) always ready to implant a guilt tax to fund vote catching things.

Cartographers working on the latest edition of The Times Comprehensive Atlas Of The World had to rub out 15 percent of ice on the world’s largest island.
Their work charts the retreat of once-permanent ice cover, reflecting the retreat of Greenland’s glaciers in the past 12 years in the face of a warming climate.
In the 13th edition of the atlas, the map makers include a new island off the coast of Greenland, named “Warming Island” or Uunartoq Qeqertoq.
This appeared as a separate piece of land several miles long as the ice melted and is now large enough to be shown on the map.

I just caught 20 minutes of the segment from New Delhi. It is really sad. It is in fact worse, IMHO, that Al’s abysmal movie. It is really sad to see scientists misrepresent reality so egregiously. I switched off when the arguments by authority started to flow.

Here are my suggestions should you encounter this guy dressed in his commando suit who says he is looking for manbea…er…climate change:
Don’t make eye contact.
Change the subject to something less stimulating.
Talk rapidly and quietly about how you are doing, don’t ask how he is doing.
Arrange for a mid-date “call” on your cell.
Walk away side ways continuing to talk, and never with your back to him.
Continue to talk pleasantly about yourself as you walk away.
End with a quick and pleasant good by and then get far away quickly.
Avoid any further contact.
And for heaven’s sake, don’t make contact with any of his friends or associates.
Practice your exit plan regularly.
I can tell from the TV and cable media that Al Gore is really having an effect, which seems to be nothing.

Some of you may want to know why he was attracted into marketing a pro-CAGW event with a name that starts off with ‘Bogus’. Technically this is called ‘nominative determinism’. It means your name drives you towards your destined occupation, like a hand surgeon I had called Dr Fang.
If you can search the records of New Scientist you will find there was a competition held by Feedback which was so hilarious and thus oversubscribed that they had to cancel it to leave room for other stories, then retreat more than once to get in just one more. The list is endless. Christian Kock’s solar cookers (Hamburg) is one guy I have visited.
If there ever was a bogus event, a CAGW-fest during a (repeated) cold-snap is surely the archetype. If there is anything to have a consensus about it is that ‘unusually cold weather hounds Al Gore’.

A related thought is that the war against carbon dioxide emissions is modeled on the war against smoking. In both cases, the drivers are hardcore socialists and communists who are power mad control freaks. If I had known what was coming, I would have fought in the smoking wars on the side that opposed smoking bans. The hardcore socialists and communists must be opposed decisively at each step they take.
Very few of the film clips seems to work for me (it might just be my computer refusing to play junk!)
However, one of the few clips I could get to work was the ‘Highlights: Boulder’ film. In the clip, a man with a ridiculous handlebar moustache showed a graph purporting to show the global temperature rise since about 1980 and comparing it with solar activity over the same time-span. The graph had the global temp rising about 0.2 degrees since 1990 (with a slight flattening off between about 2008 and today (it said the source was NASA/GISS).
Surely this bloke’s peddling rubbish? We know the global temp hasn’t risen in over a decade, so how can he get away with this?
Perhaps someone could watch the clip for me and tell me what I’m missing, as it looks like compete rubbish to me:

This is a true story.
About a month ago a friend of a colleague of mine had gone to the Canadian High Commission in London (England!) to renew his passport. Outside, in shirt sleeves, was a civil servant smoking his lunchtime cigarette. “Say, friend, that can’t be good for global warming can it?” “Ha!” said the smoking civil servant, “You don’t have to believe that tosh to work here.”

Couple of facts that don’t sound right to me which were just stated:
— The Oceans, during the last Ice Age, were 400 feet lower than today.
— 20 foot sea level rise if all of the Greenland Ice sheet melts. Note they failed to properly answer how long that would take and opted for the typical alarmist view — its accelerating.
Boy, I tuned in at the top of the hour. I feel like I am being brainwashed from a play book from some revivalist church. Don’t know about the world getting hotter, but that Aussie moderating was sure hot!

The concocted idea of secondhand smoke (SHS) “danger” has been a means to an end. The goal has always been to exterminate tobacco use. There are now bans being enacted that have nothing to do with SHS. For example, those who smoke are being denied employment, medical treatment, and housing. There are now attempts to ban smoking outdoors where there is no SHS “danger”.
Here’s an excerpt from an antismoking “advocacy toolkit” (from a Canadian toolkit, but will be very similar around the world) for outdoor smoking bans. It highlights the tricks/tactics used to contrive appearances – from flooding comments boards with inflammatory rhetoric, to conducting their own “polls”, to giving the appearance of wholesale public support for smoking bans – to manipulate the public and politicians/law-makers:
“For the next few months, strive to ensure there are positive media stories, letters to the editor, etc., that tout how well the bylaw changes are working. There will no doubt be a backlash from smokers in the beginning until they get used to the changes.
