Gore suggests climate skeptics have parallels with racists

Open question to WUWT readers:  Will one member of the mainstream media — that was so quick to give page-space to Bill McKibben’s ludicrous assertions about Irene — even bring up these comments by Gore?  Will Revkin or Bryan Walsh or ThinkProgress disassociate themselves and their orgs or simply assent through their silence?

Update: end of 08/29  Zero mainstream media outlets (except Fox News) covered Al Gore’s “racist” connections.  The silence was not unexpected.  Andrew Revkin was more interested (again) in interjecting his opinions on “acceptable” candidates for the GOP primary, a constituency that does not “fit” his worldview.  Must be fun to coordinate your messaging with Paul Krugman.

By Caroline May in the Daily Caller

One day climate change skeptics will be seen in the same negative light as racists, at least so says former Vice President Al Gore.

In an interview with former advertising executive and Climate Reality Project collaborator Alex Bogusky broadcasted on UStream on Friday, Gore explained that in order for climate change alarmists to succeed, they must “win the conversation” against those who deny there is a crisis.

(RELATED: Bill McKibben: Global warming to blame for Hurricane Irene)

“I remember, again going back to my early years in the South, when the Civil Rights revolution was unfolding, there were two things that really made an impression on me,” Gore said. “My generation watched Bull Connor turning the hose on civil rights demonstrators and we went, ‘Whoa! How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their skin color is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”

The former vice president recalled how society succeeded in marginalizing racists and said climate change skeptics must be defeated in the same manner.

“Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when racist comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won.”

“We have to win the conversation on climate,” Gore added.

When Bogusky questioned the analogy, asking if the scientific reasoning behind climate change skeptics might throw a wrench into the good and evil comparison with racism, Gore did not back down.

“I think it’s the same where the moral component is concerned and where the facts are concerned I think it is important to get that out there, absolutely,” Gore said.

Gore also took shots at Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has lambasted climate change alarmists on the presidential campaign trail, and other politicians who dare to question the veracity of global warming science.

“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said.

Ironically, back during Perry’s days as a Democrat, the Texas governor supported Gore in his 1988 presidential bid. Perry became a Republican in 1989.

In case you had doubts about Gore’s sanity, I hope this interview settles them.
If Gore continues on this path, he will become a huge negative for the Left. Of course, there is always the possibility that the Left will be too stupid to see that.
As for the comparison between criticism of “mainstream climate science” and racism, notice that Gore says nothing about why we should believe that the comparison is apt; rather, all he talks about is how the critics should be “shut up” the way racists were. I guess this is a kind of call to action. As such, it is sick.

Gore’s father voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The Southern Bloc of Democrats filibustered it for 54 days.
President Obama had a supermajority in House of Representatives and 60 vote filibuster-proof majority in Senate in 2009-2010. He chose not to pass/push Cap and Trade or any climate/energy bill. Thus, by Gore’s logic who is what again?

I think the analogy is telling us something about Al Gore and where he deems what as important. Obviously, he has a skewed sense of priorities. He seems to be equating the contributions to society by Rosa Parks and MLK with the contributions of James Hansen and Mike Mann. I’m incredulous that people would be allowed to draw such comparisons on a national stage.
Even if our skepticism is misplaced, equating the ill effects of a molecule with racism diminishes the implications of racism. He is a sad and sick man.

You know, at some point such talk is going to cause more people to stop listening to what Gore has to say. As these people get more desperate their rhetoric gets crazier and people just stop listening to what they have to say.
I am certainly finding it tiresome. The message is “we may not have the science to back up what we are saying but if you don’t go against us, you must be some racist, tea bagger Republican!” So the idea is to cast people who don’t go along with them as some sort of bad person.

The way Al’s mind works, anyone with two or more body parts is capable of being “glumped” (plural of “lumped”) with any group he wishes on his paraniod lists of friends or enemies.
EXAMPLE: Does Person ‘A’ have a nose and two hands? Does Person ‘B” have what could be called a chin and two eyes? If so, Person ‘A’ is OK and Person ‘B’ is a Right Wing Non-Conformist who ought to be taken out and shot at dawn.
Why? Well it’s really impossible to know. Al makes thing up as he goes along and no two days are ever really the same. His attitude seems to vary with his take at the gate and baseball hat sales on his website. (It really is more about the money than he’d like to admit; his electric bills are enormous; and first-class air tickets on his private jets ain’t peanuts.)
PS: You don’t ever want to be on Al’s “A” List, it’s very short and exclusive. If Al “like’s” you, you’re toast. Especially if he get’s kinky.

In Australia, the Minister for Climate Change, tried to tell us we are racists and economic xenophobes because we do not want to purchase carbon credits from unknown people in foreign countries.
The point he was critcizing was that he was questioned why Australia should effectively tear up $650billion in carbon credit purchases that would do absolutely nothing to alter temperature.
As usual, playing the racist card is the card from the bottom of the deck, a rogue’s trick to try to distract you because he has nothing left.
Interesting to note that the racist meme is uttered clone like so far apart in distance but so close in time.
Similarly, a conversation with the people means they can deny or not be held accountable for anything they say.

Vitamin A supplements for children could save 600,000 lives a year
August 26, 2011
Children in low and middle income countries should be given vitamin A supplements to prevent death and illness, concludes a study published in the British Medical Journal today.
The researchers argue that the effectiveness of vitamin A supplementation is now so well-established that further trials would be unethical, and they urge policymakers to provide supplements for all children at risk of deficiency.
Vitamin A is an essential nutrient that must be obtained through diet. Vitamin A deficiency in children increases vulnerability to infections like diarrhoea and measles and may also lead to blindness. Globally, the World Health Organisation estimates that 190 million children under the age of 5 may be vitamin A deficient. But, despite widespread efforts, vitamin A programmes do not reach all children who could benefit. (continued: http://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-08-vitamin-supplements-children-year.html)

Two observations.
1] Scientific impartiality is not a case of winning or losing. Controversy and disapprobation rages in politics and religion where there is little evidence to support a case , not in arithmetics
2) Racism is the belief that there are inherent differences in people’s capabilities and this determines their cultural achievement. Wien’s displacement law, radiative physics, spectroscopy, and air pressure, for example, and their causal affinities when applied to climactic factors, have nothing to do with analogy with racists, or indeed with morals or civil rights.
I cannot find one treatise which maintains that scientific variables have desires for civil rights or human traits in general.

“would be allowed” — Free speech, and obviously we don’t want censorship. The very very sad thing, however, is that people who make such outrageous statements aren’t laughed off the stage and then treated to a nice big dose of national scorn. NOT for having an opinion and expressing it, but for going to such extremes in their comparisions. The other aspect of this that is so disturbing, of course, is that reporters and journalists just keep going back to that same trough and lapping it up so they can serve it out the back end to the rest of us.

I far prefer Dr. Curry’s decision to engage all sides of the issues with an open mind to Al Gore’s continued wedging positions, this latest of comparing reasoned skepticism to racism being the most abhorrent. As for heroes – Start with Steven McIntyre. Here is a guy knows climate change is happening (how could it not?) but is skeptical of the integrity of the documentation trail, as everyone should be, but has also taken the time to attempt to reproduce it, unraveling the hidden tangles along the way. Dr’s Spencer, the two Pielke’s, Svengard, Lindzen, Carter in Oz, and even Schmidt who’s response to the CLOUD report is well-reasoned and I think accurate, are all standouts in this debate, and the blogosphere crawls with excellent rational debate on both sides.

In American politics, playing the race card means you’ve lost the battle. It is a last-ditch effort to win. It is always the liberals who play the race card. You don’t agree with a black person? It must be racism in their eyes. Playing the race card is often an effort to silence the opposition. Fortunately, the race card no longer works for the majority of people.
The only reason Big Al is playing the race card is he has nothing left. He doesn’t have facts on his side, or he would argue with facts. He doesn’t have the support of people on his side, or he wouldn’t resort to playing the race card. Big Al is scared that he would lose his power and money. Nothing else has worked, so desperate times call for desperate measures. It is looking more and more likely like his climate conference will be a big dud. If he has to resort to desperate measures to get publicity, things are bad for the purveyors of doom.
If Al Gore ever met me, I would ask him 1 question. Why is it the people who demand scientists follow the scientific method and require verifiable proof are the ones you call deniers but the people who break the law to NOT follow the scientific method considered credible? He will have no answer.

Three of Al Gore’s black Secret Service agents have recently filed a lawsuit, citing racial discrimination against their supervisors in the vice president’s security detail. The three men contend that black Secret Service agents are frequently passed by for promotions; they claim that Gore has made no response to their repeated attempts to draw the matter to his attention.
Well, if the vice president wasn’t aware of the problem before, he probably is now. Congresswoman McKinney made several critical remarks about her party’s presidential pick that found their way not only to her own web site, but also to the front page of the Washington Times on Friday, September 8, 2000.
“Gore’s Negro Tolerance Level [NTL?] has never been too high. I’ve never known him to have more than one black person around him at any given time. I’m not shocked, but I certainly am saddened by this revelation,” said the outspoken four-term representative from Decatur. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McKinney often speaks out on the issues surrounding race relations. Boy, does she ever.
“I’ve personally been discriminated against at the White House by the very same people these Secret Service officers are complaining about,” the congresswoman continued. “That these black officers had no response from Gore’s staff is symptomatic of a larger problem. Gore would like these problems to just go away, but they’ll never go away if they’re not addressed.”
When this bellicose commentary hit the Internet and the newspapers, there was a sudden hush in the state of Georgia that fell in less time than it would take for you to say “Loretta Sanchez found a great site for that fund-raiser.” When the bluster started up again, it had taken a decidedly different tone.
“These remarks originated in a draft of a press release that was in the editing process and were never intended for public distribution,” McKinney stated in a new press release. “I disclaim all of those comments. And let me warn any Republicans who might be tempted to use the comments that were attributed to me, which I have now disclaimed and retracted, to divide and confuse the voters — I will not stand for it.”

Wow. The desperation is palpable – you can see it in his contorted facial expressions. Devoid of scientific literacy, this is the absolute best he’s got, and he knows it. Plainly no longer satisfied with simply calling us “climate deniers,” he’s now upped the ante to comparisons with racists. Thought-control FAIL. This slow motion car crash is absolutely fascinating to watch, and I can’t wait to see to what depths he’ll go to next.

The J U L Y  2 0 0 0 issue of the Atlantic Monthly contained an article on Gore by James Fallows titled, “An Acquired Taste.” Its subheading reads:

Al Gore is the most lethal debater in politics, a ruthless combatant who will say whatever it takes to win, and who leaves opponents not just beaten but brutalized. But Gore is no natural-born killer. He studied hard to become the man he is today.

You have to wonder if its really about the science, why the need for the use of insults and dehumanization attempts as a standard technique of rhetoric to support AGW?
If is was a religion on the other had it make perfect sense , as religions have always needed to create a evil none-believers to keep people on the path of righteousness with dire warnings to the faithful should this listen to these ‘evil ones’ , and to justify the intolerance of other to the fatih others not of the faith
Not just wrong , but mad and bad too , seems to be Gores and co approach.

The skeptics will win any debate and the alarmists only stand to lose. Bring it on !
Most alarmists are not knowledgeable about their own cause !
1) They thinkCO2 is some kind of super greenhouse gas.
FALSE: CO2 only produces .4 ° C for a doubling of all CO2.
Any more comes from positive feedback which hasn’t happened so far.
Free beer tomorrow but tomorrow never comes.
2) The warming from 1978 to 1998 is somehow unique and unnatural.
FALSE: It happens every 60 years and the 1978 to 1998 iteration wasn’t any longer or stronger than the last 2 iterations, which weren’t caused by CO2 either.
The temperature tracks the PDO well both when they go up and when they go down.

Gore advocated organic farming and relying on “more productive, safer methods that put carbon back in the soil” to produce “safer and better food.”

MrX says:
August 28, 2011 at 12:53 pm
They want to shut down the conversation.

By shouting it down.

“This is an organized effort to attack the reputation of the scientific community as a whole, to attack their integrity, and to slander them with the lie that they are making up the science in order to make money,” Gore said.

First, there’s not much organized effort on the scoffers’ side, and to the extent that there is, in the form of think tanks and topic-specific skeptical organizations, that claim is relatively rarely made, compared to its frequency by bloggers and (especially) blog-commenters. Second, even such commenters don’t make the claim that “the scientific community as a whole” is money-motivated.
Gore is being inflammatory–which is a base way of motivating his base to be confrontational. I.e., in his Rolling Stone article he stated that he wanted warmists to be more active in writing letters and posting comments on the Internet. That’s how he wants to win the conversation. (But many warmist commenters don’t have the grasp of the subject they think they do-and they often make a poor impression in the way they conduct themselves.)
Second, there is a distinction that should be made (but isn’t) when we scoffers imply that climatologists stand to benefit from taking an alarmist position. They aren’t doing so because they pocket the grant money. Almost half of it goes to their university for overhead, and the rest mostly goes for their expenses, like salaries for assistants. (This is true of the grants received by skeptical scientists too–and warmists should make the same distinction when accusing them of greed.)
Their financial benefit is something more abstruse and global. That is, alarmism encourages continued heavy funding and prestige for their field as a whole, which benefits the profession as such, and which may or may not trickle down to them eventually. The purely personal benefit in promoting alarmism comes from increasing ones odds of getting published, which indirectly benefits ones career due to the “publish or perish” effect. Lastly, there are social-status benefits from going along with the herd of independent minds (as they are perceived in academia).
Deviationist scientists, in contrast, are acting against their professional and personal interest in taqking a skeptical position.
What Gore must be thinking is that scorcher-scoffers can be refuted by reciting the ready-made counterpoints provided on sites like SkepticalScience and How to Talk to a Climate Change Denier (and RC). The problem for Gore is that those counterpoints often refute strawmen, that scoffers have comebacks to other refutations, and that many contentious issues can’t really be firmly settled in the alarmists’ favor at the present time, even if they seem to have the edge on balance.
Of course, there are some silly scoffers’ statements that can be knocked down, or whittled down, but that’s only a portion of the case they make. Gore ought to read The Deniers (as a start) and process it if he wants to engage in a conversation.

The alarmists have long avoided debate and for a good reason. They would lose.
The more debate there is the more people will learn about the fallacies of CAGW.
Most alarmists don’t know:
1) CO2 is a terrible Greenhouse gas. [.4 ° C per doubling]
This isn’t nearly enough for any catastrophe
The rest is smoke and mirrors and isn’t happening.
2) The effect of CO2 is logarithmic so each molecule does less warming.
3) The warming from 1978 to 1998 was natural and has happened 3 times since temperature records began. The first 2 couldn’t have been caused by CO2.

Someone asked about where Gore makes his money.
Gore owns a huge investment-management firm that invests in “sustainable” businesses and industries. So, literally, if he can convince the large investors, including nations and agencies of nations, then he makes money. He makes money off of convincing people that AGW is true.
His firm is called “Generation Investment Management, LLC.”
This is truth, not racism. Go look it up:
http://www.generationim.com/
He has over a billion in investment assets managed:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/11/business/worldbusiness/11iht-gore.4.10942634.html
Do the math. If he gets .01 percent per year, he is super-wealthy.
Gore’s investment management firm is buddied-up with the UN – The UN has a big effort to get countries to put assets in “green” investments managed by – guess who – Al Gore:
http://www.generationim.com/media/pdf-ft-03-11-08.pdf
Info on how the UN is going to countries, convicing them of global warming, then getting them to invest in “green” “sustainable” stuff:
http://www.unpri.org/
There you have it. This is the same as a hand soap company convincing us there are germs everywhere, then offering to sell us hand sanitizer. Except that he is masquerading as some selfless humanitarian, and using the mechanism of the U.N.
Some Gore supporters have declared that Gore is awesome and selfless because he is doing this selflessly, including giving away the proceeds from his Inconvenient Truth movie.
He could give away that money without much sweat because he is bringing in much more by being an investment manager.
In these interviews, no one ever asks, “Hey Al, how is your investment management firm doing?”
Whenever I bring this up with a “warmer,” they are totally unawares. They really look up to him like the messiah he thinks he is.

I wish that were true – and for some I’m sure it still is. Unfortunately these days there is massive amounts of money to be made that goes far beyond grant money. Even grant money – if you are successful with it, it can wind up supporting your trips to professional society meetings, topic meetings, international meetings, etc. All in lovely vacation spots. Fund your research assistants trips also. Buy fun new toys (laboratory equipment) that isn’t really necessary but is awfully nice to have. Gain status within your field – which can lead to supplemental income in a number of different ways – or supplemental free trips. Beyond that, there can be honorariums for speeches, and so on.
James Hansen is a prime example. See: http://biggovernment.com/chorner/2011/06/23/lawsuit-seeks-ethics-filings-of-nasas-global-warming-activist-james-hansen/
Lawsuit Seeks Ethics Filings of NASA’s Global Warming Activist, James Hansen
by Christopher C. Horner
This week I filed a lawsuit against the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), in federal district court…ATI’s transparency project now seeks to force NASA to release ethics records for taxpayer-funded global warming activist Dr. James Hansen, specifically those pertaining to his outside employment, revenue generation, and advocacy activities.
What we are trying to determine is whether NASA approved Hansen’s widespread, well-documented, high-profile and, it turns out, extremely lucrative “outside employment and other activities”, permission for which must be obtained in writing, in advance. Public financial disclosures and other documents reveal that he has received at least $1.2 million in the past four years, more than doubling his taxpayer-financed salary. [emphasis added]
…..That is, although we removed from the final version a reminder of Hansen’s escalation to knee-jerk invocation of Nazi analogies, this remains a key point about this gusher of outside income. All of which comes on top of — and, more troubling, is all “related to” and is sometimes even according to his benefactors expressly for — his taxpayer-funded employment. (continued online)

Wonder why Al Gore didn’t mention that the old people he was talking about and the conversation that disgusted him were happening within his own house. How gross and evil is that?’ My generation asked old people, ‘Explain to me again why it is okay to discriminate against people because their statistics is different?’ And when they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.”
Secondly, back to this phrase ‘win the conversation,’” he continued. “There came a time when friends or people you work with or people you were in clubs with — you’re much younger than me so you didn’t have to go through this personally — but there came a time when holocaust denier comments would come up in the course of the conversation and in years past they were just natural. Then there came a time when people would say, ‘Hey, man why do you talk that way, I mean that is wrong. I don’t go for that so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’ That happened in millions of conversations and slowly the conversation was won”

Carter forged the path of Pundit/Scold/Self-proclaimed Ambassador at large. Clinton has been downright reserved by comparison. But can you imagine Gore? For that matter, can you imagine Obama?
Those who claim that the Right is paranoid for labeling the Left as socialist or communist surely must agree that Al Gore is socialist or communist in every fiber of his being. Well, except for his love of raking in the big bucks and living large.

You don’t need to be a climate warming skeptic to condemn Gore’s repeated toxic interventions in the climate science debate. Science is about the observational and analytical testing of ideas. Introducing emotion — the fear of abuse, anxiety about non-conformity, etc. — into a scientific debate corrupts science. When dishonesty in scientific debate is encouraged by politicians who control the funding of scientific research, one can be sure that resulting research will tend to feeble-mindedness or outright fraud.

August 28, 2011 10:55 pm

People, people!
Gore’s analogy of the AGW debate to the civil rights debate is very useful if explored, for example:
By analogy Al Gore is a civil rights supporting, yet slave-owning, plantation owner, in his use of private jets, multiple residences, and opulent life-style. To offset his ownership of slaves (carbon footprint) he purchases slave offsets from civil rights NGO’s working to free other slaves, but not his own. Sometimes he even purchases offsets from himself. Maybe he buys a slave from himself and through accounting demonstrates that there are now less slaves than previously, as now they are labeled indentured servants.
It is this hypocrisy which continues to pull the moral rug out of any statement by Gore, and most other AGW supporters. Go with this. Use this if the racist meme takes hold. Anyone who gets on a plane is just like a old southern slave-owner. I’ve challenged McKibben on his air travel and he mumbles crap about sacrifices for the greater good, but unless these people can lead by example, they can be ridiculed incessantly.

observa says August 28 2011 at 10.28 pm. A good observation but the fact is there is reputable data around that agrees that people who live in lands that experienced the midnight sun and have no sunlight for some months do not get enough Vit D. If they become depleted they will have symptoms of depression etc. People in parts of Canada, the Hebrides a Scottish Island, Norway. And Alaska. Plus Lapland. Then they also get 22 hours of sunlight, that I would think would upset one’s metabolic functioning like Jet Lag. Now what these academics and also self professed climatologists are corrupting the data to suit the hypothesis. It goes on all the time, particularly with people like Mann, Hansen, Flannery, Jones. And then they can wiggle out of it by saying this is one scenario. It’s when they cook the books they can be generally found out.

Let me break this down for everybody.
Everybody knows global warming is destroying the planet and/or going to destroy the planet. Everybody knows CO2 is a greenhouse gas and greenhouse gases trap heat. Everybody know western civilization burns fossil fuels, therefore we are responsible for the increase on greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and therefore we are causing global warming. Everybody knows rich people consume more than their fair share, therefore everybody knows rich people are to blame for causing global warming. Everybody knows the poor suffer the most and will suffer even more when climate catastrophes occur. Everybody knows these catastrophes will get worse as climate change continues. Everybody knows most rich people are white and most poor people (think globally!) are not. Therefore, if you oppose the global warming agenda, you are racist. There is no other reason to oppose Kyoto, or Cap-and-Trade, or carbon taxes, except selfishness. Selfishness is just another form of hate. Racism is hate. Therefore, opposing the climate change agenda is hate. And racist.

Well who would you believe to be more trustworthy?
a) A group of domestic and international politicians, industries, and scientists that have a big stake in the game in form of research grants, complete government control of the power generation sector, huge potential for new fees (tax revenues) for global redistribution of the US wealth, and huge gain from investments in green energy areas pushed by their co conspirators.
b) A group of brave scientists that are defending the integrity of science with the cost of getting smeared by the book (rules for radicals) and cut off from getting research funding and from publishing anything that contradicts the above group’s goals and objectives.
So where is the incentive for group b) to disagree with group a) that has much more personal gain?

The AGW alarmist scaremongers are losing this conversation so badly they don’t realize they are laughing stock for the rest of us. They don’t even get much of a shake on campus anymore.
I don’t know that this is true on the East Coast where leftist intellectuals still reign, but in the Midwest they’ve learned not to espouse that view, lest it’s shortcomings get pointed out to them and their credibility questioned.

August 29, 2011 7:59 am

Al Gore’s hysteria is not fueled by “moral” outrage but by unbridled greed. His UK-based Generation Investment Management fund in recent years bought up millions of dollars in carbon credit units from around the world and helped create a U.S. carbon trading exchange–the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Shortly after Gore and his partner sold their stake in the Exchange last year it went out of business. The world value of carbon credit paper has collapsed following the reluctance of Congress to enact crippling regulations–for which Gore lobbied–on U.S. industry during the recession. Gore is not a crusader or even a politician. He is the prime lobbyist for a global cabal of banks, industries and investors who have staked billions on the public acceptance of a new “green” totalitarianism. Since launching his “crusade” Gore has personally amassed upward of $200 million. He lobbies for then profits from taxpayer subsidies channeled to corporations where he holds shares. One example is “stimulus” dollars going to a “smart grid” firm Gore helped create as he lobbied in California for a smart grid mandate and a regional cap-and-trade compact.

I agree, however, naming calling and labeling does not change scientific facts. Ironically, name calling and labeling is a significant component of racism. Calling those who question the scientific foundation of the extreme AGW movement and the IPCC proposed carbon control policies “racists or deniers” is morally reprehensible.
Shame on Al Gore, you are embarrassment to the American people. You and your cohorts are promoting policies that would result in trillions of tax dollars being spent on purposeless schemes to monitor and control carbon emissions, on green boondoggles such as bio fuels and wind farms, and on third world projects that have nothing to do with aid and every to do with lining the pockets of corrupt third world governments and the UN bureaucracy leaches.
There will be a very strong back lash against irrational and wasteful “green” policies, the green movement’s obvious propaganda, the distortion of science, and the blocking of skeptic papers in scientific journals when observational evidence indicates the planet is cooling.
Lindzen and Choi’s analysis of data from two independent satellites shows that clouds in the tropical region increase to resist warming (negative feedback). Lindzen and Choi calculate a doubling of atmospheric CO2 will result in the planet warming roughly 0.7C.
http://www-eaps.mit.edu/faculty/lindzen/236-Lindzen-Choi-2011.pdf
“Here the statistical confidence intervals of the sensitivity estimate at 90%, 95%, and 99% levels are also calculated by the standard error of the feedback factor fTotal. This interval should prevent any problems arising from limited sampling. As a result, the climate sensitivity for a doubling of CO2 is estimated to be 0.7K (with the confidence interval 0.5K -1.3K at 99% levels). This observational result shows that model sensitivities indicated by the IPCC AR4 are likely greater than the possibilities estimated from the observations.”
The IPCC 3.5C predicted warming due to a doubling of atmospheric CO2 is predicated on the assumption that tropical region amplifies the CO2 warming.
As the planet has warmed 0.5C in the last 10 years a significant portion of that warming was due to something other than the CO2 greenhouse effect. The cause of the late 20th century warming was the sun.
The solar magnetic cycle was at its highest level in 8000 years during the last 20 years of the twentieth century. Svensmark estimated roughly ¾ of the late 20th century warming was caused by changes to the solar magnetic cycle.

So he fights real science with feelings, emotion, conviction, morals, and beliefs. Not one mention of any science. It’s clear why he refuses to debate the science, since his position is devoid of science. He gives facts a slight nod as we have to have facts, but then he says to be stubborn and stick by your convections regardless of the facts. Indeed, it is hard to fight real world facts and real science with faith.

Wrong and wrong, totally. We are cooling and never were even close to as warm as the 1930s. And CO2 does not trap heat. Thermodynamically it cannot do what they say. Even is it did, it would only ramp up convectional heat transfer to altitude (totally ignored by the IPCC) and cool us more efficiently. It’s maximum effect with doubling is close to 0.01 deg C and water vapor is a powerful negative factor due to the convectional heat engine mentioned above. Also, rising CO2 decreases absolute water vapor such that the two have an almost constant effect or less because not only is CO2 replacing the more effective water vapor but it also interferes with water vapor’s effectiveness.
CO2 is plant food and cold is the enemy. All civilizations have thrived during warm periods. There is good reason that the dark ages were cold. We are cooling and have several decades of cool ahead. We need all of the CO2 we can get to maximize plant growth (plants use less water and nutrients and tolerate cold better with more CO2)—burn, baby, burn!
The whole global warming scam has nothing to do with the science and has nothing to do with saving the planet, the biosphere, or the people. It’s a political agenda aimed at a Draconian takeover of the world’s energy, intimate control of all individuals’ activities, habits, and spending, massive, crippling of the developed economies by forced wealth redistribution, conversion of third world countries into nanny states, population reduction through poverty, and formation of a one–world government which would have to be totalitarian and socialist. This is basically communism or socialism run by a gang. Why do you think they want the Small Arms Treaty in the UN with the eventual goal of disarming the US and the world? They cannot succeed if the people are armed and resist them.
The Copenhagen Climate Change Conference was supposed to be the final step in the formation of a world government; the agreement being pushed included its formation. The UN only pulled out of the push when they found out that they were being left out of the government. It was to be set up with an unspecified, unelected group of individuals running the world, in the style of the EU and we all know how well that is working.
Nope, humans are not ruining the planet. We have to be careful, but we are learning quite nicely. The third world countries need to be allowed to develop themselves out of poverty by developing their resources and economies such that they have the time and wealth to clean up their past pollution and avoid future mistakes. A rising tide floats all boats. Even the poorest are raised up as economies and societies grow and mature.

In general I have to say I share Algore’s dim view of “climate change deniers” but only because our view of who those people are is completely opposite. To my mind the only folks who can legitimately be characterized as deniers of climate change are Al and all of his cohorts from the IPCC. The very core of their hypothesis is the argument by exclusion i.e. our models can’t match the modern temperature rise without the influence of increased CO2 from anthropogenic sources, so what else could it be? The obvious implication of that assertion is that, absent human interference, the climate would never change. Skeptics, on the other hand, have argued continually that the climate is, and always has been, subject to myriad variabilities to the point that, to paraphrase the old hippie nostrum, you can’t walk in the same climate twice.
So, if Al wants to get all medieval on “climate change deniers”, I say “You go girl!”, but just recognize that you’re talking about the man in the mirror.

I’m also a bit younger than Al Gore, so I had to look up this Bull Connor character …
Bull Connor was the Commissioner of Public Safety for the city of Birmingham, Alabama who turned fire hoses on civil rights protesters in 1963.
Like Alabama Governor George Wallace and Senator Al Gore Sr., Bull Connor was a democrat. (During the 1948 Democratic National Convention, Connor led the Alabama delegation in a walkout when the DNC suggested supporting civil rights.) Connor opposed civil rights, as did Al Gore Sr., who voted against the 1964 Civil Rights Acts. (The Act passed both House and Senate despite his opposition.)
I have no doubt Al Gore Jr. suffered angst over his father’s position. And he may well have argued with his elders about it. But he can hardly take much credit for bringing Civil Rights to fruition. He couldn’t even convince his own dad to vote in favor!
Civil Rights legislation in the US succeeded thanks to the efforts of others, acting independently — and in spite of — some key Democrats of the day.
So it seems Al Gore Jr. has this story twisted up in his mind — maybe to overcome a feeling of shame for his party’s own voting record. The Bull Connor story has little to do with global warming, but it sure gives some insight into Al Gore’s infantile rage.

Perhaps if a youthful Al Gore Jr. had used these techniques with his father, Al Gore Sr., his father would have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, instead of voting against it, as his father’s choice is now recorded for the remainder of history.

Gore is a failure. He failed to win one of the easiest elections in American history, and when he lost, his self loathing and self contempt forced him to start a NO KIDDING – TERRORIST MOVEMENT saying WE ALL SHOULD IMPLEMENT HIS POLICIES in SPITE of the ELECTION or
WE WERE ALL GOING TO DIE.
Now that we didn’t all die, we have time to sit back and reflect on just how EVIL Gore really is.
How SHAMELESS and PURILE, how SELF SERVING, and how much – LITERALLY,
a T.E.R.R.O.R.I.S.T. he really is. He TRIED to SWAY POLITICAL POLICY through INSTILLING FEAR FOR OUR LIVES if we DIDN’T IMPLEMENT HIS POLICIES.
That’s practically speaking the DEFINITION of TERRORISM: ATTEMPTING to SWAY GOVERNMENTAL POLICY through inspiring TERROR or FEAR of DEATH or SERIOUS harm coming to the people who DIDN’T DO WHAT HE SAID DO.
And yes he knows it hasn’t warmed since the mid 1990s, and he KNOWS why Phil Jones SAID IN 2005:
“The scientific community would come down on me in no uncertain terms if *I SAID THE WORLD HAD COOLED SINCE 1998.*
***OK IT HAS*** but it’s ONLY SEVEN YEARS of DATA (every year SINCE ’98 to ’05) and it ISN’T STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT.”

Nuke;
Apparently some of the slower among us didn’t get that you were summarizing an paraphrasing the AGW-Alarmist position and presumptions. Probably you need to use ‘sarc/ /sarc’ to warn the more literal-minded that you are not speaking in your own true voice. 😉

Dave Springer says:

“Uncontrollable fits of rage and inability to discriminate between reality and fantasy is symptomatic of tertiary stage syphyllis. This handily explains how a sex poodle becomes a crazed sex poodle.
Just sayin’ :-)”

Have anything to do with his lisp?
A medical doctor friend of mine, trained in Switzerland, was brought in during internship to a long term care room, and introduced to a nice man in a clean suit and he (and his three fellow students) were just told to “talk to Herr So and So, and find out what you can”.
They did, they found out Herr So and So was the DESIGNER of the Golden Gate Bridge. He gave them a LOT of detail, he was quite convincing. When the teaching Doctor stepped rudely in-between the students and Herr So and So, it was the first clue…things were not right. “Gentlement,
what is your diagnosis?” My friend and his associate were DUMBFOUNDED. The teaching Doctor knew he had caught them flat footed. He tortured them, “IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS!!!”
After several minutes he finally revealed “Tertiary Syphillis – Delusions of Grandure”.
I think we can start refering to Al as “Mr. Tertiary” from now on.

Darned browser works poorly where I am. Gentlement should be GENTLEMEN, and the inadvertant carraige return, removed…

“When they couldn’t really answer that question with integrity, the change really started.” Only a person like Al Gore can say something like that and totally fail to see the irony. Skeptics ask hard question and Al Gore and other AGW proponents just resort to name-calling and “big oil” ad-hominens. Just like the proponents of racial discrimination lost Gore will lose just because that very reason. Present some concrete and convincing evidence (photoshopped polar bears do not count) and I might reconsider.

He even sounds stupid. Didn’t he flunk out of divinity school or something like that?
I actually read his book. A lot of trees died to make that book (yes, a certain percentage of the paper was recycled, but in order to present Tipper’s photos properly they had to use a good bit of virgin paper).
Is he ever going to retire from playing the fool (but getting very rich doing it)?
No

It is time we hold a rally. It is time we air a 24 hour marathon whowing the world the mistakes of Gore. We, global citizens, will not be scammed by green scum. We have the right to truth. It is time to end the orewellian procedures of the left. It is time to debunk every pro-AWG webite and paper. It is time we bring back respect to Climate Science. We shall not be opressed of brainwashed! Vote out any offical that supports climate change! Dismantle the IPCC. Burn ‘the inconvinent Truth’.
Al Gore, you have picked the fight on the wrong people. People who know more about climate than Micheal Mann, Jones, Briffa, Wahlman, Doran and the members of your imagenary consesnus. We know that ‘going green’ means more green in your wallet. Don’t lie the oil and coal companies are on your side. I spend the rest of my freetime debunking lies.
