To Anthony, moderators and all who write herein, thank you for hosting a site where sanity and science prevail! Dissent and skepticism exists here and that is good! Some of the science and math is over my head (I’m a lowly instrumentation and controls guy!) but I manage to struggle through and learn much from even the most opaque posts! What is missing (although I would sure like to see what gets snipped!) are the acrimonious adolescents inhabiting the “real” science blogs which shall remain unnamed, however, the initials CP do come to mind. Even the trolls over here are generally more respectful! By definition, a true scientist is a skeptic: I’m in good company! As a redneck clinger, a longneck salute to y’all! (clink)

… for the past 9 years, at this moment in time. Perhaps they’re right. The cold Arctic is causing warming and the ice is melting …
…in December? Yeah, right! I can assure everyone that it is not above zero anywhere above the Arctic circle at present. So, the ice isn’t melting, but what is a-happening? I know (hand up in air – please miss?) it all went down to Europe, America and China.
I suspect winds and ocean currents.

Arctic ice extent is geographically constrained from about November through December. Ya has ta look at the map to see why. It doesn’t vary as much for those months as it does for the rest of the year. And, yes, it’s also been borrowing heat from the rest of the NH via winds and/or ocean currents. Note the spike in the DMI “Mean Temperature above 80°N” graph.

That’s a great comment and you are right, there is no net energy simply do to the movement. For every up there is an equal down, no net work. That water molecule took additional energy to move it up to the cloud base but it all returns due to eventual fall. Winds the same horizontally with changes in it’s kinetic energy. ( That delta potential/kinetic energy has nothing to do with the latent heat energy that Willis was speaking of. )

Blimey, if the AGW scam falls through completely, and the UN sacks pachauri and Obama becomes a sceptic or even a denier, then WUWTS will lose its raison d’etre and then it would be a very long and tedious march towards the millionth comment. But then there’s still hope that Trenberth would still be looking for the missing heat at 50,000 leagues under the sea. Captain Nemo would be very ready to help him out.
