Only two weeks? We’ve had below average temps for at least a month now here in the Netherlands. At last the temperatures are coming up below freezing for the days to come now but after the weekend the snow and freezing will continue. Normal temps for this time of year is about 6 C.

I have to disagree with you, about it being inconvenient for COP16. It is completely irrelevant to COP16. COP16 is not about temperatures, and it certainly isn’t about cold temperatures. It is about hot temperatures – a totally different subject.
This is cold weather is caused by anthropogenic global warming – and it’s worse than we thought!

There is a Wikipedia page devoted specifically to the “Gore Effect” used in two broad and contradictory meanings. The first meaning is as inferred here. The second refers to the general uptick in acceptance/support of/etc. AGW among the public as a result of the work of Al Gore and particularly as a result of his movie.
The thinly covered bias of the page is generally affirming and supportive of the latter and dismissive and hostile to uses related to the former. This latter hostility takes the form of suggestive deficiencies of the users of the term and dismissive quotes from those whom the reader is supposed to understand as both authoritative and correct. It is also stated that anyone who might take the phenomenon seriously is guilt of falling vicim to either the availability heuristic or the confirmation bias.
I don’t suggest that there actually is a scientifically deterministic linkage between the presence of Al Gore or other prominent AGW proponents at AGW events or speeches propounding AGW and cold/harsh weather events, but just for giggles, how hard would it be for us to develop a reasonably exhaustive list of such events and related weather at those events?
Does anyone have available a fairly exhaustive list of major AGW events and/or Al Gore appearances related to AGW that might serve as a basis? If we could generate a list of such events and demonstrate that a statistically significant fraction showed unseasonably cold/harsh weather at that time/place I would love to place it on the Wiki page to stir the pot.
Coolest November on record in Brisbane, Australia. Never cracked 30 degrees C in Spring, NOT ONCE. Very unusual. Obviously not yet homogenized.

Thanks for the French news. On sites such as WUWT we get a very clear picture of the public’s mood in the English-speaking world. But what of France? Is it a hot topic of conversation? Are warmists or sceptics in the ascendent? Is AGW considered a real threat or a wacko scare story?
Five years ago I explained to German colleagues that we Brits were putting the finishing touches to our Swine Flu reaction plan, working on the assumption that 30% of the population would be wiped out. They thought I was pulling their leg; Germany was not expecting a Great Plague. Do the French see Global Warming as a uniquely Anglo Saxon panic?
We have been presented with 3 problems.
1 It must be getting very hot and not very cold
2 Why was the forecast wrong?
3 Why was this not specifically forecasted?
s’funny how temps in Mexico are also at a low – the same as the UK. You’s thing a few thousand miles would make some difference!
Currently, our local station is showing december Average temp as more than 6 degrees C BELOW average. (but thats only based on 8 yrs data) – interestingly – November was supposed to be 5 degrees below average too! Of course, these figures are only real unadulterated ‘local’ figures (this is a local weather station for local people – UK readers will understand! – for others – google League of Gentlemen! LOL), so anyway, I will watch with interest to see how the metoffice and CRU spin this one away over the next few weeks!

There are reasons why it is so cold. Namely the sun is very inactive and has been for a while. As well, there is a very strong La Nina. Apart from the fact the you’re always saying that weather isn’t climate, you’re attacking a straw man. Who ever claimed that a trend towards average warming would mean that it would be +.x everywhere on the planet at all times? There are also these things called seasons which have effects which are several magnitudes greater than any current warming effect. Weather and climate are chaotic systems. It’s equally plausible that AGW would result in extremes of temperature depending on when and where you are.

The Gore effect seems to spreading and is touching most of the globe. It is apt at this point in time, for the past six months the reports of the warmest year ever have been shrill and often. This seems to be fading as the population the world over has seen a profound reversal of all the alarmist predictions. In Oz we have or own Gore called Tim Flannery, whom almost single handed convinced our less than intelligent state governments that normal rain fall is a thing of the past and they borrowed and spent billions on pipe lines and desal plants, they are now mothballing one that was just finished and the mother of huge plants in my state was built on a flood plain and for six months has been rather unfit for construction.
Most of the population are brain washed by the MSM to AGW but the Gore/Flannery Effect carried on for much longer will force even our entrenched media to recant or at least shut up. The mood of the populace is changing as seen by surveys the Agw thing is fading. It is now the politicians that are the main useful idiots and emails with facts and displeasures in quantity can go a long way.
No, you got it all backwards. Obviously, Gaia is extremely pleased with these gatherings to battle AGW, and rewards their zeal by lowering temps a little. If we can just have more such conferences, AGW will eventually be defeated, even if they never come up with any other effective migitation!

They tiny amount of CO2 as a proportion of the atmosphere is largely irrelevant. The amount of CFCs that caused a hole in the ozone layer was also small. You also state that:

So how do you reconcile 1, 2 and 3. The average temperature either is or is not rising. If it’s stopped rising as you suggest then has UHI stopped and we’ve gone back to using the old measurement devices? You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Here in Scotland, temperatures are back to normal for a few days before the freeze resumes.
Flooding, from snow-melt, is taking place. Nothing of surprise there.

I believe that you folks are all making the same logical mistake in assuming the colder temperature in Cancun will bother the alarmists one iota.

New record high in Denver, Colorado yesterday. But that doesn’t fit with you folks’ climate ideas so I guess it doesn’t count.

BTW, here are average December temps from 1928. No need to panic.
One cold set of storms don’t make a climate. The desert southwest has been posting record highs for over a decade. So far this fall, Denver has had the driest and warmest Nov and so far, Dec, that many can remember. The first snowfall was one month later than usual. Weather patterns are changing. This is a FACT as evidenced by the record highs and lows being recorded all over the world.

If you want to claim that “Weather patterns are changing” is a “FACT“, it would be very helpful and save us all a lot of time if you could first substantiate it. Please can you check back through all available data (not a selected period or place) and demonstrate that the “record highs and lows being recorded all over the world” are historically unusual. You might also be asked by some here to explain in what way weather patterns are indeed something to do with climate, but I’ll accept that in the current context.

And I hope you understand that what you’re doing is is simply expressing your opinion. That’s fine, but keep in mind that WUWT is the internet’s “best science” site, and you would be much more credible if you backed your opinion with something we can get our teeth into. Something falsifiable. Something testable.
The AGW hypothesis is failing because there’s no “there” there. You can’t quantify the extent – if any – that “carbon” causes temperature change. The lack of the scientific method is replaced by a fictitious “consensus.” That’s not science, it is only a belief system.
