The California governor’s race is heating up with former governor Jerry Brown (D) running against former EBay CEO Meg Whitman (R). Brown, after decades in government has apparently run out of ideas for campaign commercials and is looking for people to “star” in a new ad. However, the voting process does not appear to have had too much publicity!
Proposition 23 is a major ballot initiative in November as well, aimed at suspending AB32. Several of the “submissions” for the campaign ad star include references to Prop 23, and the necessity to keep AB32. Currently, Central Valley Farmers and 30%+ unemployment rates have some thinking about turning their brown fields into giant Solar Panel farms. Good luck with the dust…

The vote by the Air Resources Board to adopt a Renewable Electricity Standard of 33 percent by 2020 was unanimous. The board’s members are appointed by the governor, who signed an executive order last year calling for the 33 percent standard, as well as a target of 20 percent use of renewable energy by the end of this year.
So, with that in mind, Share Your Vote for the Future of California (or come up with your own global warming / climate change themed advertisement to Rebuild California): Here’s one example that would make a fantastic campaign ad:

Globalization is another issue in the Green Party. Corporations like Whirlpool, Frigidaire and General Electric moved their manufacturing operations to third-world countries such as Mexico, China and India.
The quality of their products has really declines. I cannot get a decent washing machine in any store now because they are all poor quality and the cycle times are too long. I wish they could bring the jobs back to America and restore quality.
There are 60 total submissions that can be voted on. The vast majority of the submissions are party-neutral meaning they could be applied to both Brown’s and Whitman’s campaign without much disagreement from either side. Also, many are concerned with the quality of education in California as well as the cost of government, health care, and infrastructure.
The quality of their products has really declines.
Oh, this is just precious! A greenie complaining that his washing machine is performing as mandated by congress – in response to AGW hysterics and the green priesthood – and blaming it on the Chinese.
I’d like to see another type of localization. They type where the places with a high density of green dudes get to experience their policies first hand and places where folks who don’t share their religious convictions can just be left alone to get on with life.
Hey California, if we elect another tired out, life long, socialist politician we’re done for and we deserve it. On a bright note, prop 23 is leading in the polls and if we legalize pot and things continue south, we can just smoke ourselves into submission. Maybe “Whatever, Dude” can be a ballot choice….

The cycle times are longer because they use less water at a lower temperature and less detergents to achieve the same result. This means they are more energy efficient.
I would have thought a member of the green party would be more than happy to suffer from having to wait a little bit longer for their washing to complete in order to save the planet. Apparently I’m wrong.

Since we’re already running the dang things on cold water, with cold water detergent, to shave a little off the power bill, then longer cycle times means the we’re still spending the same amount of money.

Pretty classic rabble rousing. Whirlpool, for example, had been consolidating plants and staff in the US since purchasing Maytag in 2006. Yes, one Indiana plant was moved to Mexico recently, but they also invested $300 million to enlarge a plant in Tennessee this year. The majority of job losses at their plants are not unlike those in oil refineries. Small, old, less efficient factories are being consolidated into larger ones, most of them in the USA. Unfortunately for the rust belt, those new investments tend to be in the southern states. If they didn’t consolidate, the only remaining way to cut costs would be to go to Mexico. But relocation overseas doesn’t look like a trend at Whirlpool.
The world is not a static place. Nobody has ever been guaranteed a job, not in the USA and not in the paradise formerly known as the USSR. Well, maybe government jobs are an exception; we need to work on that problem.

It seems like Mr. Reiter’s mindset is moving inexorably toward that of the enlightened Mr. Ted Kaczynski. In which case he would not have to bathe or wash clothes at all! (For those not “hip” to the near past, Mr. K. was also known as the Unabomber).

I wonder where you live. Whirlpool was headquartered and had their main manufacturing facilities in my old home town in Michigan. The headquarters and R&D facilities are still there but the labor unions played chicken with Whirlpool a few decades ago and the union lost. Whirlpool closed all the local manufacturing and moved it to South Carolina. I couldn’t believe it. They razed literally acres and acres of factory that had been on prime real estate just 1/2 mile from Lake Michigan since the company’s inception. Those jobs all went bye bye. I think some non-union manufacturing has returned to the area since Whirlpool bought Kitchenaid.
Well I hate to even mention it; but after thinking that that California had at last come to its senses and put up some rather promising candidates; although not exactly my cup of tea; it now seems to apapear that this State would rather commit Hara Kiri; than give up on its tried and true ways of de-developing this normally desert wasteland.
But it’s not my decision to make; so I’ll go with whatever you folks come up with Anthony; but it is becoming increasingly clear that one thing is for sure, is that I will be outa here by the fastest method to any place else; the day they cut my final pay check; whenever that comes first; that is if I survive that long.
Well I can see California easily meeting its new goal of getting 33% of its energy fromrenewables by 2020. In fact i wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t already in place.
By the time the de-developers set this place back to where they want it, our existing renewables energy sources will be operating in surplus mode; meanwhile India will be the world’s most populous Nation and with Communist Red China will be burning vcoal and cow dung as fast as they can dig or scrape the stuff up.

Kalifornia votes similar to Minnesota-they have the same mentality-just like the latest comedian senator from SNL. Then look at -Boxer, Pelosi, Waxman, Harman ,Waters,Feinstein,……….etc…etc. No wonder they are bankrupt and people are leaving the state.

Washing machines no longer have hot water inlets (in the UK at least) because of regulations. In order to get energy efficiency certificates the machine has to able to show how much energy it uses for a complete wash. This includes heating the water. If they use a hot water inlet then they cant be certified because its unknown how much energy was used to heat the water.
The energy savings from longer cycles are because the machine uses less water (and therefore has to heat less water), which is why it has to wash longer. Heating the water takes more energy than running the cycle longer.
Of course they would be even more efficient if they had hot water inlets but then thats one of the side effects of “green” regulations.
Relocalize is the opposite of Globalize.
It costs money and sucks up oil supplies to transport goods from halfway around the world.
This is good business for the movers, bad for the consumers.
So much shipping was going on before the Great Recession hit that they had to dip into diesel to supplement the overtaxed #6 Bunker Oil supply.
It also sucks up resources to constantly manufacture cheaper goods that don’t last as long.
California walked right into it with it’s idealogical views. What once was the largest economy in the world is now a wreck.
Good luck turning it around now that the cards are held by others not in house.

Both “sides” are operating on the shared lie that environmentalism is a conspiracy by government against business. Reiter likes the government side, you like the business side.
Unfortunately this shared notion is false. Environmentalism is a conspiracy of government WITH multi-national corporations, AGAINST small and local businesses. Government would never have gotten this far without the enthusiastic assistance of big business.

Our very expensive Kenmore (Whirlpool) front loading HE4T & HE4 front loading washer and dryer were made in Germany & Mexico respectively per Kenmore Service. This was their explanation for color match being very obviously imperfect. Serious additional quality & design problems in both revealed themselves during the last few years.
I suffered under Brown the last go-around. Once was once too many. He started the State-worker unions, and all of them have him on their strings, because they are all providing him with the money, and free campaign-workers.

wind accounts for 3.7 % of electricity generated. Of course only 30% of the electricity generated by wind is actually taken into the grid because 70 % of the time it is not needed. All the the good bird killing locations like Altamont have been taken.
Solar in 2008 accounted for .3%. But now the green light is on to convert the desert into solar panels and use all the water from the Colorado river that they do not have rights too. We do not need it in the central valley any more because the farms will be shut down to save fish in the Sacramento delta.
When the utilities talk to the press they point out that more geothermal will have have to be developed to meet the RPS goals. Unfortunately the Geysers geothermal pool is being depleted. Google tried to invest in new development nearby but after observing earthquakes resulting from drilling the well they quickly shut it down. The epicenter of this years earthquakes near El Centro is right atop the the Cerro prieto geothermal field.
But we have Hollywood, the Governor is an actor, lets just pretend.
I was at the auction in Herrin, Illinois where the industrial plant equipment of the former Norge plant was auctioned. Most of the huge forge presses and other major equipment was sold and shipped to China and Mexico. The same thing happened to the sister plant in Arkansas. The unions and Democrats in the area are still complaining about not having jobs and still blindly supporting the politicians who made it too expensive in taxes and regulations to stay.

Speaking of keeping jobs local, the “Rebuild California” website’s server is located in Utah. But Meg Whitman’s is located in Dallas, Texas.
I was told many years ago that in California, all halucinations are taken seriously by the politicos. Too many people have had their wishes come true and now they are stuck with the curse of living in interesting times.
Why rebuild? Did the BIG ONE happen already?

The “greens” need to keep their clothes clean, but when there is interference from “the powers-that-be”, then they moan and whinge, just like the rest of us. The lights go out? Nothing to do with us, may be the swift response from the ilk of greenpeace.
