An update on the plight of the Thompsons

Just one week after the A Call To Action for the WUWT Community the latest tally is:

$ 30,017 USD

On behalf of the Thompsons, thank you WUWT readers for your generous help. I know that many of you have been extremely generous, even when your own situation isn’t the best.

The positive attitude displayed has been very gratifying. In contrast, not a peep from any of the alarmist blogs, except for the usual sneering. There’s no help from the usual suspects and their flocks that I’m aware of. If I’m wrong, point it out.

Jo Nova put together a page and she will keep updating it with all the supporting links that come in. It is to be a central place for finding the basic information that matters.

http://joannenova.com.au/about/the-thompsons/

Her  latest post on them was about the community support. With a map of the surrounds and the details that their supporters live closer to them than the people who complain.

http://joannenova.com.au/2010/09/thompsons-part-5-community-support/

The next critical deadline is Wednesday in AU (Tuesday night USA time.)

That’s when the bankers meet the pollies and we hope and pray we can get some delay in eviction (now deadlined as Oct 15th).

If you’d like to donate to help keep a roof over the children, here’s the link:

I was one of the first to donate, and since have been left teary-eyed at the avalanche of response from all those whom frequent JoNova and WUWT. Likewise, haven’t seen anything on warmist sites or lamestream media regarding this story. That really disappoints.. 🙁

I keep hearing from Down Under that this story hasn’t been featured in their mass media. Go figure.

The appalling lack of coverage in the media is what galls me the most. We have several shows and papers in Australia that should be fighting tooth and nail to get their hands on a story like this and yet we are fed drivel about Lindsay Lohan getting out of jail or endless articles about a council being overzealous about beach rules. Even The Australian seems to be asleep at the wheel.
It seems you have to do something outrageous before the media takes note. Unfortunately the other farmer suffering under the heel of government legislation already beat the Thompsons to living up a pole on a hunger strike to get noticed. This warranted a Wiki article apparently:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Spencer_%28farmer%29
You won’t find Wikis for Matt and Janet Thompson… but if there had been any they would have been wiped by Connolley’s sock puppets anyway because they happen to be sceptical about global warming.

Time for a civil rights movment. No longer shall hard working citizens be forced to sit in the back of the bus. We shall overcome. The most severe zealots are the ones in the cities living in the UHI islands and lacking in fresh air.

Private property no longer exists in Australia. We are now a communist country with a two party dictatorship.

Note to all: Matt Thompson has asked to keep it positive. The consequence of the meeting with with Mr. Cameron Clyne — CEO National Australia Bank on Wednesday — is a turning point.
Side note, I honestly hope more than one Green Politician is in the meeting group. This issue isn’t political, it effects everyone with unintended consequences.

I suppose that the obvious question yet to be asked; Because of its 93% urban chattering class, is Australia turning into the stupidest country on the planet, or has this already been achieved ??

“It´s a mad mad world!!!!”…”Tansparency”, that word of recently invention since Russian “Glassnost”, may help determine if these acts were unpolluted. I think it won´t pass the “smell test” “they” invented for farms. As sure as climate can be forecasted here at WUWT without error, this time, thousand of miles away we can forecast their well deserved future.
“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”…though for them, intelligent “new wave” and “post normal” agnostics we could translate it as: “Do unto others as you would have others to vote for you”

Thankyou all across the world for helping this family in Australia in your donations. But you can help more for no cost & miminal effort. Please email the following senior NAB executives, please keep your emails positive with a simple message.
michael.chaney@nab.com.au
cherelle.x.latta@nab.com.au
james.stafford@nab.com.au
cameron.clyne@nab.com.au
Below is one email that I sent to the above addresses. I’ll post it here as an example, please use your own words.
I respectively ask that in the matter of NAB sending in the receivers to Matt & Janet Thompson trading as Narrogin Beef Producers of Narrogin WA that you undertake the following actions –
Remove the receiver immediately
Talk to the Thompson’s mediators
Give back all files
Support Narrogin Beef Producers in their legal case
This situation may well turn out poorly for public relations for NAB if not handled well. The world is watching on with a posting on the internet about the Thompsons going to the forth most viewed WordPress posting in the world.

WOW, I’ll be very surprised if the meeting news isn’t positive.
Among the politicians meeting with Mr. Cameron Clyne — CEO National Australia Bank on Wednesday includes:

I’m not familiar with Mr. Forrest but have the highest possible regard for Senator Bernardi and Dr. Jensen, two of the very, very few members of our parliament who are willing to speak out on global warming. (Dr. Jensen is a physicist. He was elected by a huge majority in his seat, his greatest problem being getting preselected because members of his own party wanted to drop him).
However, who is putting the pressure on the Department of Environment and Conservation, the real cause of the Thompsons’ difficulties? As Jo Nova says,
http://joannenova.com.au/2010/09/minister-of-the-environment-and-queen-of-wa/
they’re acting like autocratic rulers.

September 26, 2010 8:27 pm

I answered the call again and donated a bit more.
Political parties only keep their pledges or contracts with big money. Not the little people. I don’t care how many times they promise they’re going to fix things, it doesn’t last.
Time to throw the bums out. I’d really like to form up a worker cooperative party, thought about it all day. Rip the corporations up that need to be busted up and give them to the people. No more CEO’s making 400 times the average worker. No more lobbyists, everyone has to participate and be the roots of the companies and shares equally in the harvest. Trade status to countries that abuse preferred status ended, period.

That happened a long long time ago, unfortunately. This story will never appear in the Australian MSM, sorry, it just does not fit into the pro-AGW agenda. Unfortunately, headline news is usually on some sporting personality or Aussie actor/actress or Paris Hilton, Tiger Woods etc etc, we rarely receive real news.

September 26, 2010 11:09 pm

This is what the oh so compassionate people over at Treehugger had to say about it –
“In other words, people who didn’t do their homework and thought they could just walk right into a business without a plan or knowing what they were doing or were going to be up against. Got it. The media won’t cover it because the government isn’t to blame, environmental regulations aren’t to blame… people being idiots is to blame.”
“Remind me why I should support people who take their money and ventures abroad to do something as beneficial for the planet as starting yet another feedlot?”
etc etc

I’ve sent details of the Thompsons story to newspapers in Australia, England and New York. I’ve informed MP’s and even Tony Abbott. I’ve written to the NAB and contacted the rural distributors on my database to donate and write to others.
There seems to be a news blackout on this kind of story. It may change on Wednesday, here’s hoping. Good luck Matt & Janet.

The FORMERLY Great Brittain beat Oz to the “Dumbest Country” race long ago.

It still is ‘Great’ as that is a geographical term and not a title based on former power and influence. Apart from that I agree, although with the likes of His Grace the Bishop we seem to be waking up. Well, not all of it
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-11395734
The Scottish government has raised its target for sourcing electricity from renewable energy by 30 percentage points.

We live in a Rupertocracy.
Unless, and until, we can overcome the massive influence Murdoch has on the entertained classes we face an uphill struggle against this, or any threat to free-thinking, emancipation and education. He decides who gets elected (he did just that earlier this year in the UK), who becomes a celebrity and whether an item gets swept under the rug.
Why does the majority watch the 6 o’clock “news” or pick up “newspapers”? They inform no-one. They promote ignorance and the cult of personality.
Throw off your chains. Embrace the Internet.

I am quite certain of that if it was an animal in great need, they would help.
A polar bear, for example.

URGENT UPDATE
http://joannenova.com.au/2010/09/thompsons-part-5-community-support/
On Joanne Nova’s site Comment # 48, Matt Thompson has said –
“Despite numerous phone calls, and appeals from parliamentarians to wait for the outcome of the meeting. The receivers determined to act quickly before the meeting could take place. They coming at 8:00 in the morning (Tues 28-09)to get the plant and equipment and remove it from the site.”
As in the discussion starter above the situation had been
“The next critical deadline is Wednesday in AU (Tuesday night USA time.)
That’s when the bankers meet the pollies and we hope and pray we can get some delay in eviction (now deadlined as Oct 15th).”
Now it appears that the receivers are coming in to take what they can before the planned meeting of mediation.
You can help, leave this big international banking company know that the eyes of the world are watching.
Please send emails to these NAB senior executives that this is unacceptable behaviour-

I am thoroughly shocked that not a single CAGW, AGW,GW or W appears to have responded to the emergency for the Thompsons. Surely this says so much more than I had thought about the psychology of this group. They are surely a hateful group and I thought they were merely wrong-headed, well-meaning political activists. They have the audacity to write peer reviewed papers on the psychological pathology of those who are sceptical of CAGW. Now I am doubly concerned by the rehab of a growing number of the most strident of the consensus as they let a little cooling in . Please don’t let such as these hide.

! UPDATE ! : DEC decisions were based on only 21 complaints — they ignored community support.
from JoNova
Thompsons Part 7: Welcome to Investment Hell
http://joannenova.com.au/2010/09/my-letters-and-emails/
Support:
• 900 people signed a petition in their support (that was back in 2007 when they were running with 10,000 cattle).
• People give Matt $50 notes in the street and tell him to keep fighting.
• The local shire has written in support urging the DEC to allow them to run the full 14,490 capacity they have works approval for.
• Barry Carbon who wrote the 1986 EPA legislation chaired a local committee and also supports them and agrees they should have permission to run.
• Their two closest neighbours want them to stay and increase their cattle holdings up to the original design.
• 6000 recordings of smells taken in the town show the odours are not unusual or a problem. Most days no one in town can smell anything.
• We have raised $30,000 around the world in a week to support their children. Many people in the US are appalled at what’s happened to them. They are asking why Australians would do this.
This family is being destroyed by a few complainants (with a lot of help from the DEC), all of the complainants moved to a rural area, near to a piggery, but now complain that they don’t like the smell. Some of those who complain even moved in after the Thompson’s Beef feedlot was set up. Some of those who complain have also applied to rezone their land so they can subdivide.
If you’d like to help the Thompson’s, please go to this link to read over sample letters you can send in support.

! UPDATE ! : Trolls attempt to Pillage Thompson feedlot before eviction
from JoNova
http://joannenova.com.au/2010/09/my-letters-and-emails/
Matt Thompson says,
“Yesterday I locked the farm gates just in time. The administrators came calling again to start removing items. We had a Mexican standoff for 2 long hours — I with camera in hand, they in their car. We can’t leave the property.”
