This behavior is completely unacceptable. Access by reporters should be as unfettered as possible. This de facto form of censorship needs to stop.
It seems that Mr. Gore is applying a double standard. Note the placard advising members of the press placed outside his own global warming presentation:

First you have to wonder what global warming has to do with a computer security conference (RSA) in the first place, but then the real surprise comes when you find that Al Gore did not allow any members of the press to attend.
Flashback: Gore Bans Press (Again) From CTIA Speech | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
In a highly ironic move, Al Gore has barred the press from even attending his speech at the upcoming CTIA Wireless 2009 conference, the nation’s largest gathering of the wireless communications industry.
A double standard by Al? Say it ain’t so!
Another left-wing nut job who thinks he can set the standard on what is acceptable behavior and what is not. Are they all like this?
Who cares? nobody takes the goracle seriously anymore.
It’s no surprise to me at all that Mr. Gore doesn’t allow press to his events. A majority of the commenters here would be able to ask him questions that he could in no way answer, he sure doesn’t want anyone with a camera and microphone asking him anything but puff questions.
It’s all about controlling the message.
It seems that Mr. Gore is applying a double standard.
Al Gore certainly is inconsistent.

Yes. This is the definition of left-wing nut job.
People often wonder how we got saddled with George W. Bush for eight years. Simple: Al Gore and John Kerry.
“Are they all like this?”
Yes. And they see no hypocracy.
I am beginning to think something is not quite right with Al. Is it possible that he has some underlying mental health issue that might explain this? Could it be one of the reasons for the recent separation? I have a pretty good nose for this kind of stuff and when the hair on the back of my neck stands up, I have usually been right.
Blogs like WUWT are the 21st Century equivalent of the dissemination of handbills during the buildup to the US Revolutionary War by the Sons of Liberty and others!
Thanks, Anthony and Mods, long may the Internet be free and uncensored!

…………………………. Are they all like this?
Short answer? Yes. Some are more subtle (devious ) than others however.
Who needs permission to transit extra-territorial airspace, the U.S’s or anyone else’s? If Commandante Zero can’t stand the PR heat, he/she/it should go back to the kitchen.
Given Al’s behaviour in general, it isn’t all that bizarre. This is someone who thinks it is OK to lie and scare the pants off of people in order to get one’s point across, and that the Earth’s core is millions of degrees.
In this instance, Al is either oblivious to his own behaviour, or thinks people are too dumb to work out that he has double standards; either way it is an insult to the rest of the world.
Does he think his behavior has somehow been acceptable??
Gore was instrumental in getting security guidelines passed that allow for such things as “lawful intercept” in data networks. He also spoke at VoiceCon 2008 and many other computer security gatherings. Network security, or better, legislating ways to ensure government has access to all forms of communications, has been a Gore specialty over the years. His working group anticipated, for example, the movement of voice communications to data networks and put legislation in place to ensure government had the authority to monitor such communications and the equipment vendors incorporated mechanisms to facilitate it in their gear.
Double standards? Goes with forked tongued, two-faced, double-think (George Orwell must have been on Al’s reading list), etc.
As to the separation – its gotta be fueled by the cost of living with a zealot. And those damned lighbulbs. Ha ha ha!
Actually, the hardest problem with flying over the Deep Horizon oil spill area is the ADIZ. Aircraft flying over that area will cross the ADIZ.
Our aircraft have been mapping that area daily, and air traffic control was a “challenge” until they got used to our requirements. They are used to airliners flying specified and straight courses as they cross the ADIZ.
An air defense identification zone (ADIZ) is an area of airspace defined by a nation within which “the ready identification, the location, and the control of aircraft are required in the interest of national security”[1]. Typically, an aircraft entering an ADIZ is required to radio its planned course, destination, and any additional details about its trip through the ADIZ to a higher authority, typically an air traffic controller.
All true progressive suffer from a common condition that so far has no known treatment. It’s called the Double Standard.
Al Gore is as dumb as a rock regarding things scientific. Those who spoon-fed the ‘thoughts’ and images to him for “Inconvenient Truth” failed to impart any of the so-called science to him and he is petrified at the thought of being questioned. His manufactured image would be shattered. What must it be like to be constantly afraid of exposure?

I am beginning to think something is not quite right with Al.
Welcome aboard Pamela. I’ve been thinking that for a while now. He does seem to have some sort of emotional disturbance, or neurosis. At times I think he’s mad.
I heard Dennis Miller say he has Mariana Trench dad issues; that even though his dad is dead he is still trying to please a mental phantom of his dad.
I have read that Mr Gore receives $300,000-500,ooo for his slide show presentation along with him as the speaker…is this true, and if so, is it still happening? If it is, I’m impressed.
I’m confused by the communication to which Algore is referring. Restricted airspace is never controlled by any private entity; BP could not grant permission, as Algore, intimates they could, even if BP wanted to.
Something is amiss with Algore’s original information, or he is as big an idiot as I fear he is.
Pamela Gray says: “I am beginning to think something is not quite right with Al. Is it possible that he has some underlying mental health issue that might explain this? He seems to judge himself by his intentions, instead of by his actions. What other sort of people do you know that do this? That does not mean, of course, that just because he shows symptoms of a particular condition, he must, dipso facto, suffer from it.
A wonderful way of exposing Al would be to feed him fantastically incorrect information like hmm…. ah…. um…. “‘the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot” and let him make an absolute fool of himself on national TV.
Nuh silly idea – not even HIMSELF is that stupid.
Pamela Grey, June 14, 6:50.
Interesting observation, it is a fine line between blind determination of a leader and obstinacy at not viewing any alternate opinion. We have a leader in this country at the moment who is frightening in his determination that everything he touches turns to gold, but cannot see that he has become the most unpopular prime minister since Federation 110 years ago.
Shakespeare says it better, in fewer lines…..
Al Gore? Double standards?

I have held that Al was going to a Shakespearian type end.
this may be the start..
Knowing what Gore has been up to (peddaling snake oil legislation) he’s probably worried about a repeat of 1859 wiping out Earth’s communications. So my guess is that he’s got a new stock trading scheme cooked up, selling tech security and backup insurance.

When Al Gore was Vice President, did the people (in this case a “BP contractor”) answering the phone set the policies?!
From his own link:
“The Federal Aviation Administration, responding to criticism following the incident with Southern Seaplane, has revised its flight restrictions over the gulf to allow for news media flights on a case-by-case basis.”
His desire to pin a “BP contractor” with this is pathetic. It is bizzarothink! Or perhaps the former VP does not even realize he is criticizing Unified Command? HA!
nitpicking, I know but…well, he can’t even get the above right. The crude oil spilling into the gulf isn’t black, even processed unused oil isn’t black.
What a pathetic little man!
First to Pamela,
This is what happens when constant greed and power hunger overpower reason. His heart is so full of the sins of greed and powerlust that he has become deluded with his own words… remember the story about the Emperors new clothes? Gore aint just dancin naked with a moose on his head he’s wacked out on crank on top of it.
Now as to this comment on his blog…
First: it’s apparent why he has no comments allowed on his blog… 🙂
Second: Everyone will be excited to know that I sent an email to his office in Nashville via the Climate Project website and I know any day now that Mr. Gore will be sending me a communique regarding this situation. I’ll be sitting next to my keyboard and screen 24/7 waiting to send you all the exciting news of his correspondence to this humble American citizen.
But then what can one expect from the man who thinks himself so superior he can spit in the face of the Senate committee and ignore the rules of providing his testimony 48 hours in advance. He didn’t he gave it to the democrat office at 1am and they gave it to the republican office at 7 and the hearing was supposed to begin at 9. Once again the democratic chairman making special allowances for Gore because he didn’t want to sit around and listen to the Republican comments against Mr. Gore. Who he heck does this arrogant %%%###!@@@!!!$%$%%^^^^ think he is?
He think he is a very wealthy man entitled to even more wealth at your expense.

Psychic Larry says that it’s all about money. The Gores’ strategic divorce will be a hedge against the probable collapse of Al’s carbon-trading empire in the near future. If a newly-divorced Tipper dumps her half, ‘on the advise of her financial manager’, it would not send as many ripples through the funny-money market as would an identical transaction on the part of the Gores, as a couple.
The FAA has posted a notice to airmen regarding flight restrictions in the area. The pilot should have known full well this was controlled airspace and made an effort to schedule and get clearance to fly ahead of time, not just popping up on the air net and asking for a fly by.
I would like to hear the full back story on this attempt.
When I worked in Emergency Management the “I’m the Press I want to fly over your emergency” attitude was always a problem. They never could understand that they were putting other peoples lives at risk by encroaching on formally closed airspace or even just using common sense in uncontrolled areas.
A responsible news organization would have gotten clearance for the flight ahead of time. It is not as if this is “breaking news” where there was a legitimate question of urgency to get the news out. This has been going on for some time.
There were a rare small number of news chopper pilots we could trust. They usually had prior military experience (ie Vietnam) and understood the concept of air control. They were a pleasure to work with and would even offer help to the emergency services agencies when they were in a position to contribute to the response.
One of them dropped military food rations to my search team and the lost family we had just discovered. Another helped our search team confirm and locate a dead body on a 14,000 ft mountain top as I talked him into the area we had spotted what looked like a man down through a high power telescope. In other cases they have at our request taken specific video or a disaster scene or even on occasion given a third party a quick aerial view of the situation and contributed to the response and recovery operation rather than been a thorn in the side, seeking special access just because they work for some media outlet.
Unfortunately those news organizations are a distinct minority in the industry.
I suspect something has been left out of this tale!

Larry
It seems that Mr. Gore is applying a double standard.
Uncle Al is the gold standard for double standard.
“When the operators of Southern Seaplane in Belle Chasse, La., called the local Coast Guard-Federal Aviation Administration command center for permission to fly over restricted airspace in Gulf of Mexico, they made what they thought was a simple and routine request.”
FAA consistently prohibits unauthorized access to the airspace over and around disaster relief areas. In this instance, entry into the no-fly area around the rig is limited to “routine flights supporting offshore oil operations; federal, state, local and military flight operations supporting oil spill recovery and reconstitution efforts; and air medical and law enforcement operations.” There’s a *reason* for doing that — aerial sightseers and media don’t play well with aircraft involved in relief operations. The last thing a helicopter pilot flying relief crews out to a barge or a rig needs to worry about is another helicopter maneuvering in his blind spot, then darting into his flight path so Sky Cam can get an exciting 10-second video clip for the six o’clock news…
Al Gore does not have double standards.
His only standard is ME win.
Forget the left-wing nut-job Al Gore; compared with the insane utterings of Obama he does not seem too bad.
Pamela Grey Says “Is it possible that he has some underlying mental health issue that might explain this? Could it be one of the reasons for the recent separation?”
Pamela, some call that separation a frontal lobotomy.
In the 70’s I worked in the Libyan Oil Fields in the Sirte Basin. No aircraft, not even company owned aircraft were allowed to fly over or near any oil installation or rig.
Have they no idea of just how dangerous it is? The Gas plant at Dahra in the 70’s used to spontaneously pop and bang regularly without any help from us, and most of the piping and vessels were pyrophoric.
Occasionally, the Libyan Air Force would fly over very low (target practise?) and the company got really mad about it, but were powerless to act. Beleive me, you don’t want to fly over an oil slick to take pictures.

Au contraire, dear ianam. Where is your evidence that ANYBODY at WUWT is a “right wing crank”. Is this your inane reaction because a proper description and analysis regarding this incident by various contributors makes Mr. Gore look like a complete and total fool and idiot?
Welcome to the real world. By the way, “inane” means “lacking sense or signficance” in case you’re stumped.
I note from the picture above that Gore doesn’t manage a paperless office. Tut tut. Not very Green, Al, is it?
I noticed many comments calling Al Gore a left wing-nut job, as an engineer I can assure you that wingnut is one word. It is a particular type of nut that can be easily manipulated by those with an opposing thumb. These are usually people who can change a light globe without instructions. Look for some one close to Al with a monetary interest with these qualifications. Thus you will see his mentor.
Look up Narcissistic Personality Disorder. For example: http://www.medicinenet.com/narcissistic_personality_disorder/article.htm
1) Are self-centered and boastful
2) Seek constant attention and admiration
3) Consider themselves better than others
4) Exaggerate their talents and achievements
5) Believe that they are entitled to special treatment
6) Are easily hurt but may not show it
7) Set unrealistic goals
8) May take advantage of others to achieve their goals
Other common traits of narcissistic personality disorder include the following:
10) Preoccupation with fantasies that focus on unlimited success, power, intelligence, beauty, or love
11) Belief that he or she is “special” and unique, and can only be understood by other special people
12) Expectation that others will automatically go along with what he or she wants
13) Inability to recognize or identify with the feelings, needs, and viewpoints of others
14) Envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her
15) Hypersensitivity to insults (real or imagined), criticism, or defeat, possibly reacting with rage, shame and humiliation
16) Arrogant behavior and/or attitude
We should and must love HIM and admire HIM, because HE IS A JOKE, and as long as he appears defending Global Warming/Climate Change, everybody will consider, what really it is, a silly theory, really a JOKE as he is.

In that video he adheres to the Pholpotian (Khmer Rouge) theory that we adults are already corrupted and alienated by capitalism so every human being above 14 years of age should be eliminated (with the obvious exception of party members, of course- and Pol Pot actually killed millions of people in Cambodia).
Though crazy, this is funny too, because that is like he would saying: I AM STILL A KID, A BIG BELLY NOT GROWN OLD BABY!….”Mommy, those bad sceptic guys are telling me things!!!”
He is really a psychiatric case.
Algore is afraid of ambush journalism. Someone can slip him a simple question and it would trip him.

Whatever afflicts Al Glorey is not restricted by geography or nationality; most ruling English-speaking politicians around the world seem to have serious afflictions too. close to Al …
That should be “someone”, one word, as you say.
Actually its $125,000 for the slide show and as of 3 years ago, with no Q&A that Al Gore and his people have not had the chance to weed. As far as I know that policy was birthed in Regina Saskatchewan 3 years ago when he was to be taking questions from “farm kids” and after having seen the questions left the building before his projector bulb had the chance to cool.
My daughter Amy knew one of the kids chosen by his school to put a question to Al Gore and they were NOT notified about the change in format right up until he left the building.
Here’s what I posted on another Blog, earlier. Btw, Hotrod is 100% accurate…:
“Prohibited Airspace is not unusual. Happens all the time around project fires.
Every now and then it becomes a “media event” and news choppers MAY
be allowed. But not without special and I mean special- permission.
Too much stuff to get in the road of.
The last thing they need s some klown trying to get a scoop and the front page of National Geographic..
Back in my Airtanker days, I wanted a Martin upper turret more than once, when there was a News chopper getting in the road at the last second. Imagine coming out of the smoke with a Hughes 500 on your wingtip….” I also this bit:
That 500 driver was on us before we even saw him and he stayed with us through the drop. didn’t get much as most of it was obscured by smoke from the Forest fire.
Shall we say we had a little talk with him at Prescott Airport….
