Yes but I can hear the “peer-reviewers” on these issues saying already:
“Blogs” are not Scientific” [in the vein of the “Weather is not Climate” pile of straw-crap that is shaped like a man].
I defy anyone to be able to produce a science blog [and this, for a blog, is hard to do] which tries to incorporate the free-thinking checks and balances of the Scientific Method any ******* better than WUWT!
Yeah sure you have the likes of Duke University researcher and congressional science researcher Sheril Kirshenbaum, co-author of Unscientific America talking down her nose on NPR a few months back, aghast, that the best voted scientific blog in 2009 was “WattsUpWithThat” a [in her words] “climate-change-denialist blog.”
But Sheril is all too typical of their ilk: Elitists who, instead of debating the facts…..make cheap-shots like that one on national radio, and then retreat into their ivory towers [holes], free from real debate and consequence.
Of the ten (10) emails I have sent her, calling her to task and also critisizing her book, she has never ever responded, once!
Very, very telling.
Sorry….I digress. The great thing about the success of WUWT, besides being an unbelievable roster and clearinghouse for so many great minds, scientists, engineers, physicists, and laypeople, from around the world…is that it continues to broadcast unabated, and without compromise….the search for the truth.

A new decade? Obviously. we can make an arbitrary beginning of a ten-year period anywhere we like, and any day of the year is the the tenth anniversary of the day ten years ago, but do we normally start counting things by starting at zero? I tried this with my sons, by asking them to count to ten: both started at 1 and finished at 10, rather than starting at 0 and finishing at 9.
Last year was certainly the tenth year of the 2000s but this year is the last year of the first decade of the twenty-first century.

My knowledge of science is (to be kind) scant but with only one noted exception, I fall squarely into P Gosselin’s segment categorisations:
– generally male (decidedly female)
– quite well educated, practical
– median age 48
– finicky, cautious buyers,
– who demand quality, and proof thereof
– not impulse buyers
– not trend buyers
Thanks to a very practical chemical engineering father, who taught us to question, question, question, I didn’t simply buy into the AGW meme when results seemed to give it the lie. When I make environmentally friendly decisions and implement them it will be because I can see the economic benefits (economics major here) and not because of any scare tactics which are thrust at me.
Until I stumbled across WUWT I felt like I was drowning in a sea of either too technical or overly simplistic explanations which did not satisfy me.
I’ve found a home here and pop in every day for my ‘fix’. Joe Bastardi’s http://www.AccuWeather.com is another favourite. Thank you from a warm and wet South Africa.

I started visiting WUWT when Andrew Bolt began linking, because at that point there were very few public places where information on climate was being laid out in a scientific manner, to encourage readers to question orthodoxy, as science and logic always should.
My wish for you and your many supporters in science and the public domain in 2010 is to succeed in having Algore, Pachauri and the IPPC stripped of the Nobel prize , and for them to be prosecuted for international fraud, along with certain multinational financial institutions.

Outstanding!!! Maybe Joe the Plumber is finally taking an interest in what the “scientists” and “politicians” are trying to do to his little paycheck and bank account. Well deserved. You have a truly high quality blog. Don’t stop!

I know I’m indulging my perverse delight in acting the contrarian, but 2010 is not, sensu strictu, the first year of the second decade of the 21st c. Since the 21st c. (and the third Christian millennium) began on January 1 2001, 2010 is the last year of the first decade.
The problem arises from the fact that in the seventh century, when the monk Denys the Diminutive developed a dating system centered on his estimation of the year of the birth of Jesus, Europeans were half a millennium away from learning the ‘Arabic’ (actually Indian) system of numeration with its marvelous invention of zero (Indian philosophy, in contrast with the Greek, seems to have be much less terrified about the concept of ‘nothing’). Denys counted the year of the birth of Jesus as the year 1; therefore the year 10 was the tenth year of the first decade.
It’s more confusing when one tries to get this across using Arabic numbers.
Roman numerals make it clearer: from I to X is ten: XI is the first year of the second decadal cycle.
This year is MMX. Next year will be MMXI

I have been able to locate no other site which is free of political bias, replete with scholarly references, and packed solid with the detail necessary to refute the dominant paradigm.
I have a strong bias here: if a theory is not subject to verification and possible falsification, that theory is not scientific.
The documented fact that the FOIA requests to CRU have been rejected, and the raw data never made available, is in itself probable cause to suspect the result.
Far from being settled, the science is not science.
The unfortunate truth is that the behavior of the thin film which we call our atmosphere is poorly understood, and the tools necessary to study the film are still in their infancy.
Please do not stop now, wattsupwiththat. We need your continued active documentation and reporting.

For instance the “French Revolution” with their rejecting the carbon tax wasn’t quite as touted. It was rejected due to too little taxing, not too much. 🙂

I keep coming back here and reading this site most days. I have to admit I haven’t done my bit to change the tide of global warming policy, but I sure am glad this site exists.
I figure the big jump in the last couple months is the Obama administration officials trying to find holes in your science.

Impressive. But I would like to know how WUWT intends to deal with the CHIE?? Computer Heat Island Effect has seen a steep rise due in part to the increased number of hours spent at online sites such as WattsUp. Not only has this put potentially catastrophic demands on the global grid – it has raised the quantifiable global CHIE T.
While we cannot argue with success, we would like to know what precautions WUWT is taking to contain this growing issue?? Hockey sticks don’t lie. The evidence is right there at the top of this post.
Just how happy can a new year be with this hanging over our heads?

In Germany it’s even worse: you have to PAY lawyers that send you cease&desist letters (“Abmahnung” in german) or SUE them (at your own risk). Really. What Anthony or Richard North are doing would be impossible in germany.

Wiki has a good discussion about the millennium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millenium and concepts of ordinal and cardinal time. It also refers to ISO 8601:2004 Data elements and interchange formats – Information interchange – Representation of dates and times. http://www.iso.org/iso/date_and_time_format
So the scientific explanation of “whatever” is “in accordance with ISO 8601:2004” in line with the international reach of WUWT. I will give the mods latitude here. Not all blogs have moderators that also perform volunteer diaper service.

Looks like al gores income projections.
You may not be far from the truth. Hockey stick graphs are nothing new in business projections. Some businesses use them to try to convince people to invest in their company with the promise of profit projected in the hockey stick graph.

Exactly right, if you use the word without parameters then it is meaningless. Any year is the start of a new decade. In this context we are talking about the calendar and that defines the parameters. To me this argument is silly. If you want to call this year the start of a new decade, by all means go ahead you only display your ignorance. More surprising and disapointing to me is the response I got from our host. Seems his reaction was more appropriate to RC than what I am accustomed to at WUWT. I have always had great admiration for Anthony and have recommended WUWT to many who were in search of a forum that was both informative and fair but now I have to re-think.
