Gropenhagen: Prostitutes Offer Free Climate Summit Sex

You just can’t make this stuff up. The Hookers Union fights back.

MORE NEWS FROM COPENHAGEN – –

Prostitutes Offer Free Climate Summit Sex

Copenhagen Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard sent postcards to city hotels warning summit guests not to patronize Danish sex workers during the upcoming conference. Now, the prostitutes have struck back, offering free sex to anyone who produces one of the warnings.

Seems easy enough to find:

Google makes shopping easy

Excerpts:

Copenhagen’s city council in conjunction with Lord Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard sent postcards out to 160 Copenhagen hotels urging COP15 guests and delegates to ‘Be sustainable – don’t buy sex’.

“Dear hotel owner, we would like to urge you not to arrange contacts between hotel guests and prostitutes,” the approach to hotels says. Now, Copenhagen prostitutes are up in arms, saying that the council has no business meddling in their affairs. They have now offered free sex to anyone who can produce one of the offending postcards and their COP15 identity card, according to the Web site avisen.dk.

Discrimination

According to the report, the move has been organized by the Sex Workers Interest Group (SIO).

“This is sheer discrimination. Ritt Bjerregaard is abusing her position as Lord Mayor in using her power to prevent us carrying out our perfectly legal job.

I don’t quite understand this – what’s not sustainable about having sex?
You have sex with your wife/partner, 99 times of 100 you don’t reproduce, so that’s hardly sustaining the human race is it?
So unless these hookers are all HIV positive, what’s it got to do with ‘Green issues’?
If these guys wanna have sex, that’s their business.

Here’s something fun:
1) Go to YouTube
2) Type in “hide the”
YouTube will helpfully present you with suggestions on hiding watermelons, pain, the rum or the knife. And it will offer you two suggestions on hiding the fart, depending on whether you wish to make a game of it.
But it will offer you nothing on hiding the decline. This, despite over 350,000 views of Minnesotans For Global Warming’s “Hide The Decline.”

Ian B
December 4, 2009 8:02 am

Well, it’s interesting because there is a strange link between these two things. The ultimate driver of greenism is puritanism; it is an ascetic, sackcloth and ashes philosophy which blames pleasure and comfort for the moral and practical destruction of mankind… and the planet. I believe there is a powerful argument that the anglosphere left in particular is driven, as with the right, by a kind of post-protestantism. “Progressivism” is simply moral fervour- not marxism, as many believe, but a desperate evangelical zeal to reform the lower orders. The model of the authoritarian modern western state is not some kind of marxist derived ideal, but rather the model villages of the nineteenth century, in which the wise factory owner housed his workers and carefully monitored and controlled their moral fibre. And we must remember that many of the anti-libertine restrictions we sadly take for granted today- laws against drugs, booze, prostitution, censorship and so on (and which many conservatives now like to think are eternal traditions of the western world) are the product of the progressive era.
The various wars on drugs, sex and rock’n’roll are bedfellows of the war on comfort, economic development and real progress exemplified by greenism. What irks the deep green deep down is that people are, in their view, just having too much of the good life and need to be pushed back into a life of ascetism.
So, the attitude of the mayor- no doubt, as a member of the western political class a person utterly drenched in the ascetic zeitgeist- is entirely consistent.
Three cheers for the whores for striking back so positively.

Addendum: I evoked the anglosphere in talking about Denmark. I think it’s time we recognised that most of the ascetic fug permeating the global governance community is being generated by the anglosphere- the USA, UK, etc. As a Brit, I’ve come to the conclusion that the best reason for us to withdraw from the EU would be to protect them from us 🙂

I am surprised, actually, that they sent out those postcards, given that (to my understanding) this was actually one of the (implied) selling points of having the summit in Cope in the first place.
In fact, at the May conference, it was one of the highlighted activities;
http://newledger.com/2009/05/copenhagen%E2%80%99s-sex-trade-did-brisk-business-during-the-recent-climate-conference/
Just one more example.
Elitists never fail to exhibit the most debauched and excessive behavior. It’s the hallmark of an empires decline; Egypt, Greece, Persia, Rome, even Ming and the British Empire all showed a cavalier attitude toward excesses and moral degradation among the ruling class.
Of course, in the past, it’s always been regional in nature. One dominant nation, one part of the world in chaos. This time the elitism and debauchery have succeeded on a global scale. If the ruling elite suddenly disintegrated under the weight of their own hubris world wide, what would that mean? They will surely have a difficult time convincing citizens of the world at large of their veracity, wisdom and character, after their cardinal ox is gored, and they are found to be a class of charlatans with little concern for the people of the world.
Food for thought.

How, exactly, is the use of a prostitute not sustainable?
I realize that “sustainable” is just a buzz word, however the word is used to imply that you are only using as much of a resource as can be replaced. If one uses a postitute, is said prostitute now gone? Of course not. Then again, is it even possible to refer to a prostitute as a resource?
However, the fact that prostitution is legal there may have been a factor in the choice of location. Some of that grant money may well have been allocated for this kind of assistance.

“Hacking” is definitely an illegal act though in this case one with a potential public-interest defence. If , as many suspect, the documents were “leaked”, that would probably be covered by the 1998 Public Interest Disclosure Act. See: http://www.pcaw.co.uk/index.htm

During the Korean War, there was a mass exodus from Paris to Nice just before the 7th Fleet dropped anchor bringing the promise of sailors with money and unfulfilled lust.
It is reasonable to assume that there will be a mass exodus from Paris to Copenhagen in anticipation of the presence of thousands of politicians freeloading on taxpayer money (via the UN) and desiring the all expenses paid companionship of hospitable Danes, who may be Parisians in actual fact.
Given the advance notice, the necessary visas will have been acquired.
As in all occupations, you follow the money..

“Sustainability” seems to have become a type of religion, with numerous moral and ethical “codes”. From the “Earth Charter”, here are a couple of sections, parts of which could conceivably cover prostitution, and how it might not be considered “sustainable”:
III. Social and Economic Justice
9. Eradicate poverty as an ethical, social and environmental imperative.
10. Ensure that economic activities and institutions at all levels promote human development in an equitable and sustainable manner.
11. Affirm gender equality and equity as prerequisites to sustainable development and ensure universal access to education, health care and economic opportunity.
12. Uphold the right of all, without discrimination, to a natural and social environment supportive of human dignity, bodily health and spiritual well-being, with special attention to the rights of indigenous peoples and minorities.
IV. Democracy, Nonviolence, and Peace
13. Strengthen democratic institutions at all levels, and provide transparency and accountability in governance, inclusive participation in decision-making, and access to justice.
14. Integrate into formal education and lifelong learning the knowledge, values and skills needed for a sustainable way of life.
15. Treat all living beings with respect and consideration.
16. Promote a culture of tolerance, nonviolence and peace.
It would seem, though, that Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard’s primary concern is trying to keep the image of her city and of Hokumhagen clean. Seems the postcard idea has backfired though.

This all reminds me of H Allen Smith, the newspaper man. He once told all of his coworkers that his parents were visiting New York City. “If you run into me and my parents, whatever you do, don’t let them know I work for United Press. They don’t know I’m a journalist.”
“What do they think you do for a living?” one of his friends asked.
“I told them I play the piano in a whorehouse,” Smith replied.

Or perhaps she’s a politician and got free sex to the attendees.
Prostitution in Denmark, as in most European countries including the UK, has been legal for a decade, and accepted or at least tolerated way before then. Mexico, Canada and many other countries around the world allow prostitution. I don’t really know why the Mayor would be concerned about the image of her city. She just can’t overtly pimp.

According to the largest Danish daily, the legitimate hookers (i.e. not those poor souls from eastern Europe or Africa who have been forced/coerced/deceived etc. into doing this type of work) have tired of the new age “prissiness” – if that is the correct word – of the leftist parties which run Greater Copenhagen. This is their demo against the city council.

How does either relate to sustainability? That’s my point. What, are they worried about the extra CO2 exhaled during the act???
You’re misunderstanding the word “sustainable”. It is now used simply as a synonym for “moral”.
I think the basic reasoning, if you can dignify it is that, is the fact that doing anything at all consumes energy and resources. Therefore, doing anything which is not specifically moral is a crime against sustainability, because it is consuming resources that could have been put to a moral purpose.
Basically, the Consensus measure everything by moral outputs rather than e.g. by economic outputs. This is why it’s acceptable for Fat Al to consume lots of resources; he’s producing (in the Consensus view) a great moral output. A normal economist (either capitalist or traditional marxist) would measure productivity by production of goods or services. The Consensus measures production of moral goods, so economically rewards those who are highly morally productive i.e. themselves. Energy and resources consumed by prostitution have (in the Consensus view) a negative moral output, and are thus, in the jargon, “unsustainable”.
Something like that, anyhoo.

I knew that article was going to be by the fragrant and indefatigable Louise Gray before the page even appeared. She must be wearing her keyboard flat.
This is the woman who a while ago in an article declared that a comet the size of the Earth had left a crater on Jupiter, I kid you not. Some hours after I’d blogged it (I was blogging then) and we’d all had a good laugh, it was corrected. Her knowledge of science seems to be rather patchy, though.

http://www.gmanews.tv/story/177346/climate-change-pushes-poor-women-to-prostitution-dangerous-work
Holy smoke, is that article lame, or what?
“Of the 92 million Filipinos, about 60 percent are living in coastal areas and depend on the seas for livelihood, said former Environment secretary Dr. Angel Alcala.
Alcala said that “we have already exceeded the carrying capacity of our marine environment.”
But as the sea’s resources are depleted due to overpopulation and overfishing, fishermen start losing their livelihood and women are forced to share the traditional role of the man in providing for the family.”
So, “Climate Change” causes overpopulation and overfishing, causing unemployment, thus forcing some women into prostitution. What amazing bright lights these Alarmists are.
Oh, and then there’s this gem: “Climate change could reduce income from farming and fishing, possibly driving some women into sex work and thereby increase HIV infection,” Mukherjee said during the Wednesday launch of the UNFPA annual State of World Population Report in Pasay City. The only question is; Is there anything bad that “Climate Change” can’t do?

But not always sustaining governments. The social democrats in Denmark appear to claim some moral purpose behind their opposition to prostitution, but the real reason may be
“Earnings from prostitution are undeclared, no tax is paid, and prostitutes have no contracts specifying pay, working hours, working conditions or pension schemes. Many prostitutes are also in receipt of social security benefits.”
http://www.kvinfo.dk/side/676/article/55/
The mayor of Copenhagen is a social democrat.
“The Social Democrats’ social policy through the 1990s and continuing in the 21st century involved a significant redistribution of income and the maintenance of a large state apparatus with collectively financed core services such as healthcare, education and infrastructure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Democrats_%28Denmark%29

I think your analysis is absolutely spot-on. I wish I had written that piece.

UPDATE ON COPENHAGEN
Obama to avoid ambush by arriving at the end of the summit instead of the start.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/copenhagen-climate-change-confe/6731431/Copenhagen-climate-summit-Barack-Obama-to-attend-end-of-summit.html
Copenhagen climate summit: Barack Obama to attend end of summit
President Barack Obama will attend the end of the UN climate summit in Copenhagen instead of the beginning, the White House has said.
04 Dec 2009
Mr Obama had earlier planned to stop at the summit on his way to Nobel Peace Prize events in Oslo.
The US president abruptly altered the timing of his appearance at the conference, hoping to capitalise on steps by India and China in the effort to agree a new global warming pact, Robert Gibbs, the White House official press secretary, said. “The president believes that continued US leadership can be most productive through his participation at the end of the Copenhagen conference on December 18th rather than on December 9th,” Mr Gibbs said in a statement. “There are still outstanding issues that must be negotiated for an agreement to be reached, but this decision reflects the president’s commitment to doing all that he can to pursue a positive outcome.”
The move means that Mr Obama will be squeezing in a separate, 10th foreign trip before Christmas – a record pace of travel for a first-year president – as a means to giving momentum to a deal aimed at fighting global warming.
Mr Obama will now leave for Oslo late Wednesday, attend Nobel events on Thursday and return to Washington on Friday.
note: Thus avoiding any possibility of the threatened “blame it on America” mass walkout.

Can I throw in a defence of Puritains please? I am a Congregationalist and trace my history back to the “Puritains”. Sorry to be excised about this, but Puritain has NOTHING to do with “purity” of life. It has to do with PURIFYING the ANGLICAN CHURCH of its ROMAN CATHOLIC TRAPPINGS.
In point of fact the orginal Plimoth Colony (spelled right) group in Mass. USA had the following practices which come as a shock to many:
1. A few bushels of “American Corn” could be traded for a lager of Ale from a passing trading ship. (Translation for the weekend, “PARTY!”)
2. Their native friends introduced them to a product to chase away the dark, damp, cold “humors” of the North East, they ground it to a powder, put it in a thing called a PIPE, ignited and breathed the vapors. It was a “health food”, what did the Indians call it? Oh, TOBACCO!!!!!
3. The early Pilgrim/Puritains just “lived together” as couples. They had no CHURCH marraige ceremony, nor did they recognize the “Crown’s” ceremonies. (There is NO ‘ceremony’ in the “Bible” either.)
SO please, can we come up with something ELSE besides “Puritain” to call the environmentalists? Let’s call them COERCIVE UTOPIANS, because THAT is what they really are!

The working gals in Nopenhagen could wear the T-shirts I’ve seen advertised recently whose slogan is, “I’m a hotspot.” That would give the conventioneers the pretext they need for doing some extra-mural temperature research.

One set of prostitutes getting freebies from another set. What do you call it? Professional courtesy.

Reed Corey Asks:
Question: When a Copenhagen attendee and a prostitute are alone in a room, how do you tell who is who?
Answer: You can’t.
Real answer is : The one with the artificially upturned “hockey stick.”

A bit harsh, my impression is that the Screaming Mercury Monkeys are quite fond of bad puns and there are some Dylan fans too.

It is rarely the hotel owner who arranges contacts between guests and prostitutes. Usually the guest will contact the barman or the porter, who will know the way and will collect a negotiating-fee from the prostitute or her pimp.
The mayor nor the hotel-owner have the power to interrupt this profitable business
