I had a look at Tamino one day (just a reflex after his starring role in some of the Climategate emails) and it was a pitiful sight (and site) of true believers talking themselves up and vainly reassuring each other the world hasn’t changed.
There are several stories here.
The MSM are trashing what little reputation they had by ignoring the Climategate story. Educated citizens are now seeking their news from people who will report on all the facts rather than avoid inconvenient ones. And the excellent stewardship of the scientific case for climate realism by WUWT.

This is very impressive, and looked at another way, it shows who the “deniers” really are.
This is proof that, in general, the “true believers” just do not want to know about Climategate. They don’t want to know what those emails show. They don’t want to know what the IPCC scientists really think. They just want to go on believing.
There’ll never be a proof for the existence of God, but this graph you’ve shown is certainly a proof for the existence of religion. 🙂

Head of the British Antarctic Survey on BBC Radio4 an hour ago. They’ve just discovered that sea-levels will rise by 1.4metres this century (double the previous estimate).The BBC man was very supportive. Mentioned sceptics and how to convince them but no mention of why they’re so uppity in the first place!

Well done Anthony, I’ve been a regular visitor to your site for around three years. I posted on RealClimate about three years ago saying that for a hypothesis to be true there must be some mathematical expression which defines the hypothesis and enables us to test the validity through doing sums. So I said, where is the mathematical relationship between CO2 and Temperature that would prove once and for all that the warmists were right.
I was inexperienced then, and having tried to post since on a number of topics realise that it was an absolute fluke that my post made it onto the screens of the readers of RealClimate given Gavin’s penchant for censoring anything vaguely resembling debate.
Anyway, in the flood of vituperation that followed from the many wierdos that seem to haunt that site, one of them, not his/her exact words, told me if I wanted to talk rubbish like that I should bugger off to WattsUpWith that or ClimateAudit, at that time I’d never heard of WattsUpWithThat, but I am thankful for the beraters that they directed me to this site and I’ve been regularly visiting ever since.

Most of the austrians are believers, allmost all of them think, co2 is a polutant.
They do not realy care about AGW, but it is worst enough to be sure, that co2 ist a “killer”. Our stupid goverment is pushing the AGW theorie, not only the greens and there is nothing in big media about climategate.

In other news of the day, here at the eastern end of Lake Erie we’re forecast to get 3-6″ of global warming today (AKA snow).
The greens revolted against the Green Revolution.
Now the Hockey Stick too has a meaning mirroring its original attempt to control mental attitudes. It was the graphical version of doublespeak. The original Hockey Stick was the greens’ doublegraph, the newgraph!
But the rational people saw through it and have parodied the newgraph with the peoplegraph! (I really don’t know how to develop this image, any good script writers out there??)
This is proof that, in general, the “true believers” just do not want to know about Climategate.

There’s some good science in this world Mr Anthony… and it’s worth fighting for.
If that second graph were a cardiogram print out of four people in a room then I’m afraid that two of the other three are struggling to keep a pulse going, and the fourth (Tamino) has gone terminal. I had to look really hard to notice that that particular flat line wasn’t the bottom of the graph.
WUWT has a healthy pulse in comparison, but on Nov 17th it got a large shot of adrenalin or something similar. This only confirms that more and more people are coming here to find out what is going on because the MSM continue to cover their eyes and ears while they speak, scared to find out that many of us know the jig is up and we don’t believe their waffle anymore.
OT but an interview on Aussie Sky TV tonight showed the new Liberal Party leader to be a very cool customer. Very measured and strong in responding to the interviewer trying to show that the Liberals have no alternative to the Rudd proposal. Sure his response was mainly to attack the ETS as an unsustainable tax burden, but he wasn’t to be rushed on what his party would do given the chance. Early days yet, but this could be an earth shaking moment not only in Australian politics, but for global politics as well. And Aussies call New Zealand the Shakey Isles!

TheTimes newspaper (UK) totally ignored all reporting on Climategate though it did run one short leader efectively just dismissing the whole matter as irrelevant (cf, Paul Krugman) and one greatly intemperate column by Aaronovitch effectively saying the whole reporting of Climategate was the only real scam. Today, however, the Times leads page one with a strory from SCAR about ice meltdown in the Antarctic which is supposedly a massive threat to hordes of cities all over the world.
What are your views, Antony, on Scar? What is their track record? Are any of their `advisory’ panel linked in any way to Climategate? I have decided not to run to the hills yet in spite of Scar/Times. What sort of risk am I running?
I’ll grant you it looks impressive, but is the current level of traffic really unprecedented? For some reason this graph conveniently omits the Medieval Internet Period.

The BBC seem to unaware that the antarctic continent ice is at record levels or if they are its having no influence on their corporate scaremongering tactics. Could we have have an antarctic sea ice level graph to show the reality instead of the fraudulent fantasies being peddled by the BBC please?

Our government was (and still is) millimetres from signing into effect an emissions trading scheme. Grass-roots uproar from supporters of the political opposition (stirred by Bolt and Blair) have resulted in a change in opposition leadership, which MAY block the passage of this unscientific, expensive bill.

I’ve been visiting this site for about a year – Christopher Booker’s articles mentioned it. Now its daily reading after the newspapers normally, but THIS week I visit before the papers in the morning and again late afternoon to see developments (I’m in UK).
What I found encouraging last week was Andrew Neil, (former editor Sunday Times, now presenter of the Daily Politics and This Week, a political magazine programme both on BBC) bring up Climategate and insist on a robust debate on the evidence for AGW. Also Times, Telegraph, Mail & Guardian have all run stories covering different perspectives on Climategate – it is entering the mainstream. And all in a week!

WUWT benefits from a combination of good science, insightful commentary, timely release of information (thanks mod team!) and a blind deaf and dumb media that won’t talk honestly about climategate. There’s no reason to go to a pro-AGW blog right now…the media is doing their work for them. This site provides the other side.

Something similar happened here in the UK when a political scandal broke about the smearing of opposition politicians by a government civil servant.
The blog that broke it [Guido Fawkes] saw his traffic treble and it stabilised at about 2x the previous rate IIRC. He changed how political bloggers were treated by the MSM in the UK – from sad loners obsessing from their bedrooms to serious players who could force people from office by saying what the lobby journalists wouldn’t cover.
Looks like you and Mr McIntyre have done exactly the same thing – only on a global scale. Respect.

This is off topic, but the Sun is playing a backseat role during these important times, but SIDC has just released the Nov figures. The Nov figure is 4.2 which is extremely low for a count expected in the upramp of a cycle, the onset of a solar grand minimum is strengthening daily. We could not wish for better timing.
The Layman’s Count will be updated tomorrow which is expected to severely downgrade this already low figure. As the world eventually dumps the IPCC mantra, real questions will be asked on what drives our natural climate variation. The time is near for real science to explore real outcomes.
Normally, my biggest support goes to the moderators and admins who keep things sane and intelligent. I know well where you guys come from (see our investing site above).
Recently, however, this site has been more of a journalistic affair and I’ve been both captivated and impressed.

British Antarctic Survey are reporting that the ice is melting and that over the next century we ‘could’ see sea levels rise by up to to 1.4m
They claim the hole in the ozone layer has caused Antarctic cooling but it is healing and the ice will start to melt from underneath in the western ice shelf.
Any basis in science for all of this? We just have uncritical reporting from the BBC.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was wrong about the e-mails. I strongly believed their release might be a ploy in the first couple of days after the e-mails were released. That was not the case.
The old military mind, however, remembers the Battle of the Bulge and similar historical counterattacks and constrains us to keep our powder dry. Today, counterattacks are known as “spin”.

Anthony you have a genius (a scientist’s nose for) those “puzzling things in life” and you know how to attract and select both “assistants”: and topics. From being puzzled about how temperature in the U.S. is measured — how accurately sited, recorded, and raw data kept unadulterated — you have engaged the array of other sciences necessary for understanding climate. And you have pointed us to other blogs and sources for the same.
Thanks for sticking to the basic principles of the scientific method in every area and, with discipline, permitting the wide range of comments/opinions. Without either, neither science nor representative democracy can survive. Your hockey stick is for the real game.
I wish Leif Svalgaard would rejoin “you” (it feels like “us”). His expertise in solar research and his insightful commitment to the scientific method — in his every comment, no matter how droll or exasperated — added immeasureably to scienctific discussion and education.

Today was a great day for all of us in Australia opposed to Labor’s “Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme” – the CPRS.
A grassroots revolt the likes of which the Liberal Party (the Conservatives) has never seen turned the tide at the last minute and led directly to the downfall of Liberal Party AGW true believers Opposition leader Turnbull and his media-favoured sidekick Joe Hockey.
A huge vote of thanks to WUWT, Tim Blair, Andrew Bolt and a handful of conservative politicians who weren’t afraid to say the AGW Emperor has no clothes. In return they copped the full force of being branded climate change deniers and worse by Labor PM KRudd and a lazy, compliant, lickspittle media.
I dips me lid (take my hat off) to Senators Barnaby Joyce and Cory Bernardi and MPs Wilson Tuckey and Dennis Jensen ably supported by Professor Ian Plimer and Professor Bob Carter. These never-say-die champs fought a marvellous rearguard action pretty much on their own until the last week or so when Tony Abbott and the cavalry saved the day.
The next year or so will make for interesting politics – but at last the AGW doomsters who want to tax us into oblivion now have a fight on their hands.
Last sentence in thread start is clearly correct; and perhaps one of the best encapsulations of the service WUWT is providing in these ”dynamic” times; i.e.:

While it’s not always easy to tell on 1st read, it’s clear both from context and those who self-identify that people from all over the world are making WUWT one of the central ”clearinghouses” in the struggle to have objective science win out in the struggle with a modern AGW equivalent of the Inquisition out of the the Middle Ages.
SIDEBAR: I concur with prior comment: An actual WUWT conference could be a really interesting, educational, and fun event. As someone who organized several conferences for specialized software engineers, IMO even with all the modern techie communication tools it’s still hard to beat being able to meet & greet and look people in the eye at a real conference. . . . Of course organizing and running a conference can quickly become non-trivial.

I am very angry that the mainstream media, but especially the BEEB, are not running with climategate as their main news. It seems that T. Woods esq. and his ‘accident’ are more important!? (not).
I’m a first-time commenter, but I’ve read most of the blogs here (a lot of them I’ve read twice). I just wanted to offer a heartfelt thank you. Anthony, you run this site fearlessly. In the end, that’s all most of us really want, to live and pursue our interests without fear. You allow opposing points of view, and you don’t even have to worry about the results. That’s how it goes when you’re more interested in the absolute, actual, factual truth, rather than being an agenda-driven goon, a la OwlGore.
I will donate to the cause within the next few days, as a more tangible expression of support.

The number of viewers of WUWT should come as no surprise. Anthony has been consistent from the beginning about demanding thorough and accurate documentation of all claims. I was attracted to WUWT at first because of the work done in documenting the compliance with established standards of the weather recording stations throughout the US.
Then he stumbled across the “readjustment” made to the US temperature records; instead of a reasonable downward shift which could be justified by the urbanization of the areas around the weather stations, Anthony found that the reverse had happened: stations which showed NO change had their records adjusted! The trouble with renormalization is that a legitimate process would require field work: each site would have to be individually inspected, placed in one of the five categories, historical records investigated, and appropriate adjustments made. Such activity would be labor intensive, and was not done.
WUWT has had the benefit of a superb corps of contributors. I have learned much from the regular comments in the various threads. The comments add much to the initial posts.
I direct the following question to the readers: the “researchers” at the University of East Anglia claim that the original temperature data has been lost. I find it highly improbable that the original sources of that data have lost the data. Is it possible to contact all of the original providers and re-assemble the data base?
Surely contributors from around the world would not have forwarded their records to CRU without keeping copies? Keeping a record of one’s correspondence is just good scientific practice.

On MSNBC I found 3 links and when following the links found stories about people living in log cabins with solar power, garden plots and nothing concerning the greatest scientific scandal of the century. I keep hearing, from the MSM / BBC etc., that “the science is settled. Global Warming is a fact, and is caused by anthropogenic CO2”. If the science is so settled, why is the funding for “research” increasing? Surely if all the answers have been confirmed, no more research and funding is necessary. Let me be alone and criticize the graph. The graph shows a monthly set of points. The upward spike was actually around the 20th as i recall. So we have reason to believe the upward slope was consistent and fairly steep following october’s rise.
The increase all came in roughly the last 10 days of November after Anthony sent a message from the airport commenting on an alert from MKcIntyre.

The higher the WUWT hit graph goes, the more of a “vested interest” you have in ClimateGate. Please learn from other’s mistakes, stay humble, and continue to search for Truth over self-validation. Thanks for the work you do.
Based on modeling using the Erlang C formula and using the inbound intents and outbound replies as a proxy for CPU temperature, we are able to state unequivocally with 95% confidence that WUWT server CPU core temperatures are increasing at an alarming rate. Anthropogenic Server Warming (ASW) is indeed man caused.
Soon the WUWT servers will reach the tipping point and go into thermal runaway, beyond which the albedo forcing of fans will have no effect. It is occurring at an unprecedented rate and is much worse that our models predicted.
The science is settled. There is no debate.
Kudos on a job so well done it can be claimed to have changed the world at least as much as man generated CO2.
Now whatever you do don’t throw away the original data.

I’ve always been a great believer in scientific methods and have – from personal experience – a high opinion of scientists’ integrity. This is why I thought that the so-called consensus that present climate-change is caused by human intervention was correct.
No more. I’ve since (among other things, of course) learned that major figures in climate circles no longer consider themselve scientists in the classic sense of the word. Instead, they are practicing what they themselves call “post-normal science”:

SIDC has released its update of the Provisional International monthly mean Sunspot Number, and for November it is 4.2 (the same as September).
This is strange because the unofficial, accumulated value based on the Boulder (NOAA/SWPC) sunspot number, reached 7.7 ( Higher than Sept or Oct).
Perhaps it has to do with the fact that November saw a flurry of Tiny Tims, not real spots.
This brings the total number of months in a row with smoothed sunspot number below 5 to 20 months… quite an achievement.

Where’s the smoothed, massaged curve. I no longer trust raw data, I need to have a ‘value-added’ computational layer before giving that chart any credence.
In fact, when your done processing a new graph, you should probably just delete that raw data. That’s the only way to ensure that your not confusing or misleading anyone with needless details.

Last time I noticed there were claimed to be 250,000 people whose jobs were based on the hypothesis of AGW. Seems like there’s going to be a lot more unemployed people in future.

See, I told you in September you had a shot at 30 million hits by the end of the year.
My only complaint is that with a dozen articles being posted per day I can just barely read them all (some days I find I missed a few, especially if I skipped even one day for any reason…) and skim some of the comments. It is no longer possible to have an extended conversation in time (as things roll off the bottom of the article list so quickly.)
On the plus side, the Trolls seem to be quite missing in the flood, having been washed away in any given thread by the torrent of events lately…
So: Congratulations! (But with fond memories of when it was just our private little getaway spot where a few friends could meet for drinks, discussion, and sceenry… )
