Joe Bastardi on 60 Minutes and Gore

Veteran Meteorologist Joe Bastardi of AccuWeather on Al Gore’s 60 minutes interview:

I am absolutely astounded that someone who refuses to publicly debate anyone on this matter and has no training in the field narrated a movie where frames of nuclear explosions were interspersed in a subliminal way in scenes of droughts and flood, among other major gaffes, can say these things and then have them accepted… by anyone.

If you wish to write letters to CBS New regarding the issue, see my post on the same subject here.

Joe Bastardi: A very disappointing read for me, Anthony. Tangled; and adding no clarity or insight.

Joe’s dead on correct.
Gore senses this fraud is coming to an end. In a last desparate attempt, he’s now going to launch a 300 million dollar disinformation campaign filled with “if you don’t look, you’ll be taken” tricks. The MSM of course will aid and abet. Gore is going to attempt a coup d’etat. He isn’t any less sane than Lenin.
You might think I’m off my tocker with that statement – but hold on: It’s going to get real ugly. You’ll see.

Anthony
The news and current media circus is exactly that,a circus. They know Gore is a making himself look stupid but they also know that their ratings will rise and that they will then be able to demand more money from their advertisers. Its a game for them. Doesn’t matter if its the BBC, NBC, CBS they all have a need to be seen as ‘the best’. Note recently in the UK, Sky news was voted ‘channel best for news’ so the BBC claimed ‘most watched news channel’. They are like little children in a their big playroom and we are their toys. Ignore them and they will throw a big tantrum.

Gore has it wrong again. Once almost everyone thought that the world was flat and there were only a few that questioned this. Today, the so-called “deniers” are not the “flat earthers”, they are the ones questioning the prevailing paradigm.

I stopped watching 60 Minutes years ago when it became apparent that it was not investigative reporting. The program assumes a position and goes all out to support it. The “devil’s advocate” questions are perfunctory and only more deeply pursued if the answers don’t support the predetermined conclusions.
My favorite line is “X has refused to be interviewed for this program.” Never mind that if 60 Minutes is on your tail, this becomes a form of wife-beating innuendo. Heads they win; tails you lose.
I sincerely doubt the program is going to try to pin Al with the fact that he really has no credentials. How can anyone, considering the importance placed upon celebrity advocacy? Surely, they are going to mention his Nobel but will gloss over the fact that it was a Peace Prize instead of one in science.
I also doubt they will be hard hitting enough to point out Al’s hypocrisies: Al was one of those in the Senate that unanimously vetoed U.S participation in Kyoto; that Al once stated (during a gas crunch) it’s every American’s right to ample gasoline; that Al is extravagant in his own use of resources he wants us to reduce thereof; and he stands to monetarily gain with his carbon credit business.
I see little reason to write to CBS about all of this. They aren’t going to change one aspect of the program. The best thing is to do what Evan Jones has been doing: post sensibly in the comments section on the webpage. Few of Evan’s comments have been rebutted, let alone attacked, by the AGW’s. Hopefully, the message will sink in for those on the edge.
Of course, that will be a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused by one irresponsible 60 Minutes segment.

Stephen Richards,
I respectfully disagree. These CBS fat cats actually believe they are influential and powerful enough to sway public opinion. They see themselves as power brokers. If they were the least interested in making profits, they’d offer programming with mainstream appeal.

One of my old favorites. From the movie a journey of a headbanger. Al and Tipper Gore vs Dee Snyder and twisted sister in a senate hearing. Al Gore have faced other dangers than global warming, such as heavy metal music. Apparently this isn’t his first attempt to curtail freedom of speech…

He doesn’t end up looking good though 😀

Heads up people.
With the PDO shifting into its cool phase and Solar Cycle 23 dragging on and on, the next few decades promise to turn significantly colder. But the AGW true believers won’t let that faze them. I predict that they’ll have a quick “explanation” that the cooling is a result of all the particulate matter being released into the atmosphere by China’s economic expansion and its reliance on coal-powered electric power plants. They will insist that the cooling that results from all that particulate matter is masking the continuing threat of AGW.

Pierre Said:
“…in a last desparate attempt, he’s now going to launch a 300 million dollar disinformation campaign filled with “if you don’t look, you’ll be taken” tricks. The MSM of course will aid and abet. ”
Pierre, CBS’s ratings are lower than whale poop. As I recall from the most recent “sweeps,” CBS was dead last amongst the Lamestream Media group (ABCNNBCBS). They will do ANYTHING to jack up their numbers, including lying if necessary. But it goes much deeper: lower ratings translate into lower revenue… and here they have 300 million green ones staring them in the face. This is a prize they want a big chunk of, damn the veracity of what’s said!
Pierre said: You might think I’m off my tocker with that statement – but hold on: It’s going to get real ugly. You’ll see.
You are soooooooooooo correct. The greenie wienies see the writing on the wall. They’ve been proclaiming “the end is near” for so long, they’re just beginning to realize the threat applies to their scam, not the world. But soon their last gasp will be so loud and shrill, even the staunchest Dragon Slayer’s (Skeptic) confidence will be tested.
Someday, the world will look back at this moment in history and finally understand how the greatest scam on the face of the earth almost made them slaves of the self righteous envirowhackos.

Maybe we can get the SEC to investigate Al. In business, you are not allowed to deliberately deceive the public in order to prop up you stock price. This is exactly what Al is doing with his carbon credit interests.

If you want to be constructive, give generously to the re-elect James Inhofe for Senate campaign. Read about Inhofe standing firm against the eco nazis here.
After you do that if you still feel the need to vent, try writing Pepsico a nasty letter filled with four letter expletives and allusions to the merits of tar and feathers for people who advocate for wide scale extermination of the human race. Supporting text for my personal animous regarding Pepsi.
And don’t forget to <Drink Coke !

Anything short of telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
When the media and government collude this way, tar and feathers becomes a viable option.

Kansas made the final four, though.
Yeah, I’ve never been so conflicted over a college basketball game before. I wanted desperately to root for Davidson, but my daughter is a KU graduate and my son-in-law earned his Masters at KU, and they still live in Lawrence. A few inches to the right on the final shot, though, and the outcome would have been different, which is the way the competition at that level should be. GREAT GAME!
And, not sure what I was thinking, but I left the TV tuned to CBS after the game and watched that snake-oil salesman, Algore. I kept waiting for Leslie to ask him about the British court that ruled AIT had 9 significant factual errors, and did he think he should return his Oscar, but alas………..

The AGW types have to get some legislation passed ASAP, so they can claim credit for saving the world when the cooling trend begins in a few years. We’ll see a lot more doomsday panic from them in the near future. It may be too late as the cooling may have already begun. That won’t stop them from claiming credit for it. I agree, it will get very ugly.

March 30, 2008 5:00 pm

Was watching the Ice Hockey on CBS Saturday night. When introduced as ‘everybody’s favourite left-wing kook’ to comment about a Hockey game; David Suzuki, one of AGW’s chief cheerleaders in Canada, tried to waffle on about ‘Earth Hour’. One of the commentators promptly shut Suzuki up with a sardonic comment about there still being a two month long cold snap in Ontario. Priceless.
Maybe someone could set Gore up the same way, waffling on about AGW being denied by ‘flat earthers’ when snow is visibly falling at an NFL game in Chicago or similar.
Anthony: Wow, Susuki in a hockey game, I didn’t realize he wa even on the hocky team.

This was the launch of the 300 million dollar propaganda campaign. Why is a propaganda campaign necessary?
Gore is getting desparate. This was is his last play, attempting to isolate the people who want to look at the facts, as the facts are not going his way.

March 31, 2008 5:08 am

I attempted to watch the interview last night after the BB game, but had to turn it off after about ten minutes due to nausea. And CBS wonders why no one listens to their rot any more.

The 300 mil is already being spent. Notice the recent uptick of alarmist news items. That is PR in action.

Robert Wood
March 31, 2008 9:33 am

Yes, the increase in alarmism is noticeable. It is either inversely proportional to deltaT or time from next upcoming international global warming meeting.

It’s getting colder; the alarmists are getting colder, and spitting in fear. I’d really like to know where that $300,000,000 is coming from. There is dirty work being done at the crossroads.

Gore is no more likely to debate a skeptical scientist than the Pope would debate an atheistic historian. Al is a true believer. Facts are irrelevant.
His faith has given him even greater international prestige than that he believes was stolen from him in Florida. It has made him a multi-millionaire. The adulation given him as spokesman for his faith by other ignorant believers feeds his immense ego. He saw the Nobel award as confirmation of his faith, views, and opinions as “TRUTH.”
He cannot admit even the possibility that his reality does not conform to the real world. His self image would implode.
Do not expect to ever hear an admission of error or apology, even if the Chesapeake Bay freezes solid.

It struck me two ways.
1) Gore is calling out those people involved in the Manhattan Declaration that suggested he might be sued for repeating information that he knows to be false reference AGW. If so his challenge could be put up or shut up.
2) An attempt to intimidate with his war chest of $300 MM.
Either way in light of continuously mounting evidence that the wheels have fallen off the AGW bandwagon it looked to be a desperate move to use scare tactics to achieve an effect. Shame on CBS for pandering to him.

You’re being unfair to the pope with the comparison. The pope actually has an honest job and it would not be a good use of his time to debate something that is after all faith based (both religion and history).
Further the pope is not trying to ride a lie to fabulous personal wealth. AGW is a religion of course just not one that handles rational thought or disagreement well. Maybe Islam is a better comparison.
If the entire issue wasn’t so very sad this would be a humorous post.

Another possibility – Al Gore just turned 60. Maybe he’s sensing his own mortality, and is scared he’ll go and have nothing to show for it.
Up till now, just senator and VP: this is his “last hope” for enduring legacy, and is willing to give all for the “cause”.
Thing is, he hasn’t scared us yet.
If he wants to make a diference, use that 300 Mil to buy CFL’s for everyone. Give everyone a “green credit” to purchase CO2-reducing items. But 300 mil for advertising?
Buy time on American Idol…
