Whew! It has been a busy week, with lots of things to report. So rather than
making a blog entry for each one I thought I’d condense them all into one entry
with links.
The emphasis this week seems to be on the sun, and the fact that maybe its
really the sun which has been driving climate change after all. That’s what I’ve
been saying for years, because its just unrealistic to ignore the largest and
single most important contributor to our planets energy balance and to only
focus on made-made CO2 and nothing else.

From “Sun Blamed for Warming of Earth and Other Worlds” it states :
“The radiation output of the Sun does fluctuate over the course of its 11-year solar cycle. But the change is only about one-tenth of 1 percent—not substantial enough to affect Earth’s climate in dramatic ways, and certainly not enough to be the sole culprit of our planet’s current warming trend, scientists say.”

“The latest report by the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says the ice cap is warming faster than the rest of the planet and ice is receding, partly due to greenhouse gases. It’s a catastrophic scenario for the Arctic ecosystem, for polar bears and other wildlife, and for Inuit populations whose ancient cultures depend on frozen waters.
But some see a lucrative silver lining of riches waiting to be snatched from the deep, and the prospect of timesaving sea lanes that could transform the shipping industry the way the Suez Canal did in the 19th century.”
*** Moderators note: Its not the variation of irradiance in the 11 year cycle that is of any issue, its the overall increase in solar magnetic activity over the last couple of centuries that is the real issue. This combined with a gardual, but small net increase in irradiance. This trend can be shown to be historically matching surface temperature proxy records and actual records indiacte the changes in the sun are driving climate change, and the fact that CO2 emissions lag by about 800 years are a clear indicator that the warming of the ocease by sun driven climate change is causing a CO2 release…not the other way around.
Found this interesting…Studies such as this support the conclusion that the IPCC has not properly accounted for various factors like this regarding their predictions for the future. And more importantly, their future recommendations..
I need to see the study to see what percentage of warming they attribute to the UHI, and if this affects California, what about all the other urban areas?
