WUWT Stuff

On this Friday Funny – the new and improved 4 legged AGW table thread, there was quite a bit of interest in getting T-Shirts of Josh’s latest CAGW cartoon, the “No Shoogle 4 legged CAGW Table” (shoogly means wobbly in the UK). So I asked Josh, of www.cartoonsbyjosh.com and he graciously agreed to license the design to WUWT so we could offer some T-Shirts, mugs, and other assorted brick-a-brack, just for fun.

I also added a second design (of my own) that some long time readers may remember:

I regret that CafePress would not let me put something on the back as well, they are apparently limited to the front side only, and side by side of this design is the best I could do:

It looks good on the mug:

You can get these on different colors of shirts, different styles, plus other items; like tote bags, water bottles, clocks, even a BBQing/cooking apron!

Josh gets a commission on each sale, so here’s your chance to annoy your friends and support his work.

Order your favorite fun stuff here:

The shop allows you to choose what design you want on what item and what size in men or women’s sizes.

If you don’t want one for yourself, I hear Jim Hansen, Gavin, Joe Romm, and some other friends of ours are getting coal for Xmas this year, so they might like one of these better.

1. I’m no good at drawing so could anyone knock up polar bear sporting a hockey stick? Preferably skating on thin ice.

2. :~)
Love the lab coat idea, J.S.
Just ordered t-shirts and mugs….we’d also like to suggest a decorative flag for outside residences.
Thanks Anthony.

3. I momentarily misread the “BBQing” apron above as a “BBCing” apron. Sounds good. I could just wipe all their tacky propaganda off with a damp cloth, instead of having to wash it out of my clothes and hair. :-)

4. @ morgo, et al. In Aus.

Brighten up your upcoming Australian rallies.
See the linked cafepress site in the article has a link to an Australian site down the bottom. I’d contact them & see if they can print the designs, & perhaps ask if they can do any of Josh’s other excellent designs as well , to sport at your forthcoming Australian rallies .

5. “I believe in climate SCIENCE change”

Most people will just see a warmist bumper sticker. This ain’t gonna fly, people driving behind you won’t get it.

The others are excellent

6. Anthony, I want to start by saying keep up the great work and giv’em hell. I us stumbleupon to find new climate stuff and stumbled onto http://weatherspark.com/#!climate;ws=30586;ctum=1;cth=500;ctmy=15;ctsy=1949;ctey=2010. You may have seen it but it uses different data sets to plot the data into nice graphs. Funny all of the 70s are missing. I guess they lost that data. But you can pick a city and see the change from the 40’s to 2010 (sans the 70s). I dont see the trend. I dont see the warming. Kinda cool so I thought you might share it.

Keep going!

7. My suggestion for a bumper sticker is: “I’D RATHER BE A CLIMATE CHANGE DENIER THAN A CLIMATE CHANGE LIAR!”

8. Nomination for Climate FAIL File recipient

Australia’s Chief Climate Commissioner, Professor Tim Flannery… On sea rise…
. “In his book Now or Never, Professor Tim quotes James Hansen “who is the world’s leading thinker in this area” saying that “we are on the brink of triggering a 25 metre sea-level rise”. Tim goes onto say “So anyone with a coastal view from their bedroom or kitchen window is likely to lose their house as a result of that change”. The Australian of 5th March 2010 quotes a Tim Flannery estimate of a 60 metre sea-level rise. ”

Thursday, 28 July 2011…Revealed Tim Flannery owns a waterfront home at Coba Point. (30 k north Sydney). Have confirming links available.

9. “…the world’s most viewed climate website”

So … where is everybody since October 1?
(Explanation needed here please, Anthony).

10. Small Wind Turbines

The small wind turbine will kill and injure birds and bats. That is quite clear from studies in the U. S. and in Europe – what on earth is not clear is why. Statistics indicate that upwards of 40 birds per 12 months are killed at turbine sites. Why is this a difficulty and what do we think is going on here? There are a volume of component parts that the birds impact and it is just not clear why the birds are getting disoriented and flying in to them. The birds and bats can fly into the blades of course, but the tower plus the tower assembly – guy wires plus the power cables – offer an obstacle for these individuals. The problem is the actual worst for larger birds. They tend to are now living in areas where large wind turbines are installed – mountain ridges and so on. To complicate things, the fog that is usually seen around mountains is cited because culprit not necessarily this turbine mechanism. Fog of course can make it difficult for birds along with bats to see where they’re going. What could the wind industry do to eliminate the number of birds and bats killed every year from wind turbine strikes? One thing the industry is doing is suggest that makers make systems with bigger blades. The theory is the blades won’t need to turn as fast and also the birds and bats can escape their way. In practice though, this doesn’t provide much relief as the tip speeds of the rotor system continue to be very high (in excess of 100 mph). Furthermore, it has been suggested which the industry move away coming from lattice-type towers and move to solid ones. It is thought that will by doing that, birds won’t nest inside the tower and won’t be near the spinning blades so typically. Other wildlife can end up being affected, too. In some more farm locations bears, deer, and other smaller animals happen to be driven out because regarding C&F wind turbines being placed in their habitat. While a lot of the Why of this phenomenon is still unknown, it is interesting to speculate about what factors are contributing to the problem. Is it the sound the turbines make? Could it be the vibrations in the air? Or, could it be the birds an bats are just interested and get too close when they go in to check things out?Nonetheless, it is still the responsibility of small wind turbine manufacturers to do everything they can to not negatively affect the ecosystems where their products end up.

11. At Last: Europe Abandons Folly Of Unilateral Climate Policy
The European Union’s demand for a road map leading to the next legally-binding global warming treaty raises a hurdle that may snarl negotiations at the United Nations climate conference this week. The 27-nation bloc said it accounts for about 11 percent of global emissions and that it can’t act alone on emissions blamed for damaging the environment.

Limits under the Kyoto Protocol expire next year. Japan, Russia and Canada have ruled out more commitments under that pact.

12. How about a t-shirt/mug with the caption “It’s worse than we thought. (TM)” and a picture of the spaghetti graph WITH all of the tree ring data up to today, adequately labelled, tree ring data preferably in bold red (not yellow), and on top of all the other data?
I’m sure that someone (S.M.?) could knock one of those graphs off.
These would make mighy fine Christmas gifts.

13. Global warming — the great delusion

By Matt Patterson

Published February 17, 2012
In 1841 a Scottish journalist named Charles Mackay published a study of mass hysteria titled “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.”

Mackay analyzed a wide variety of popular pathologies in his entertaining tome, including financial panics, medical quackery, alchemy, and witch crazes. He wanted to know why so many people choose to believe so much that is false and potentially deadly. His answer:

• Seems well applied to those who reject the findings of all 200 of the World’s National Science Academies and Professional Organizations. Rather than the ‘madness of crowds’, though, maybe they could call it the ‘dismissal of all peer-reviewed science’. Although that would be an insult to the insane.

14. Looking at the Danish Met. Inst. arctic ice extent on your sea ice page, and observing that their ice measure has yo-yoed by about 500,000 sq km three times over the past several days. From 11 million sq km, down to 10.3, up to 10.9, down again to 10.4. Is the data from their satellite going bonkers, too? The physical rate of change required is unbelievable. I was going to comment on their website, but I don’t speak Danish. [Unless selecting apricot vs raspberry].

15. Sigh. This website causes one to facepalm ones self. Most of the people that direct me here are not science students or scientists, funnily enough. And the scientists that I know are very good friends that I’ve known for a long time, who certainly aren’t incompetent, and certainly aren’t in this for any monetary gain.

Keep trying to muddy the waters, the majority of scientists know the truth.

16. Using firefox 3.6.18, when I scroll down your main page, at the solor weather window something tries to load that hangs my brower

17. Mr Watts

Have I been blocked by your site?

I have just, for the first time ever, seen a comment not being posted in one of your blogs.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it were the internet mafia at work, as they don’t like free speech…..

18. Chesapeake CEO On U.S. Industrial Renaissance

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304811304577369663811298168.html?mod=djemEditorialPage_h

“Natural gas is a feedstock in basically every industrial process, and the price of gas in the U.S. is a fraction of what it is in Europe or Asia. This country has an incredible advantage headed its way as Asian labor costs rise, as the cost to transport goods from Asia to the U.S. rises, as oil prices rise, as American labor costs have stagnated or gone down in the last 10 years. We have a really wonderful opportunity to kick off an industrial renaissance in the U.S.”
~Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon in today’s WSJ

and…

Mr. McClendon promotes natural gas as a carbon-light fuel, but that doesn’t mean he’s convinced that man is really changing the climate. “There have been times in the past on this planet where it’s been hotter but CO2 levels have been lower. And there have been times when CO2 levels have been higher and the climate’s been cooler. . . . Would people cheat on climate science? Sure. Because all it is is a model into which there are 2,000 variables and if I want this outcome I nudge that one up a little and down a little bit and there you go.”

These days the CEO saves his particular scorn for the occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Asked about President Obama’s decision to reject the Keystone XL pipeline that would carry crude oil from Canada and the Western U.S. to the Gulf Coast, he says: “I’m not surprised that this president made that decision. I’m surprised that a president made that decision. But knowing what I know about the sway that environmentalists have . . .”

I am now receiving an email from WordPress.com each time I comment on your blogs. I don’t want to receive them – is there a way to stop them sending them please?

20. Years ago back in 1980s me and my mates started drinking in this Working Mans Club
Its was very rough but we liked it
People and the staff in there were okay
Couple of them had been on a Lads holiday to Portugal and had come back
They were talking about this guy they had seen out there walking along the beech with this T shirt
On the front it said “Cut your Poll Tax” on the back it said “Kill your Wife and Kids”

So i have had a load of Climate Change T shirts printed and i will try to sell them on Ebay in Australia
It has the Act on CO2 logo with the actual black foot print severd in half with red blood splatter

Just says” Cut your Carbon Tax Kill Your wife and Kids”

21. “Cap and Trade” is Racist .. who knew ?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/06/11/BAQI1P08C6.DTL

A coalition of environmental justice and civil rights activists has filed a complaint alleging that cap-and-trade provisions in California’s pioneering program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions discriminate against people of color.

The groups, which represent minority communities, accused the California Air Resources Board of violating the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it agreed to allow polluters in low-income areas to use carbon offsets to buy their way out of pollution reduction under the state’s global warming reduction plan.

22. I would like to know the variation in the tilt and precession of the rotational axis of earth with respect to the plane of revolution of earth round the sun , offering readings for the past 5 or 6 centuries or from as far back as possible categorically giving the theoretical and expected variations obtained through calculations over the centuries and, the actual measured varation through observation.
Link this data , with available measured climatic conditions and variations that has taken place over the centuries.
What is the theoretical prediction on the correlation between change of climate and tilt and precession of earth’s axis ?
DO NOT LINK THIS DATA WITH ANY TYPE OF HUMAN ACTIVITY .
If someone wants to correlate climate change with human action that could be done separately and not mixed up with this.
Up to what proportion of climate change is ascribable to human activities and what proportion is due to other factors such as tilt and wobbling of axis of earth and solar flares and changes in astro-physical conditions etc will be clearer if the factors are not combined but kept and studied separately.

23. I have a suggestion for a slogan for a bumper sticker, tee shirt, coffee mug or lapel badge ect.
CARBON DIOXIDE IS INNOCENT
Would you at WUWT like to produce this

24. Robin Darnell says: June 10, 2011 at 6:40 am BBC and Phil Jones at it again?

This story is couched in a 1995 start of the data period, 18 years ago.
Most of the discussion I’ve seen has a 1997 start. No warming for 16 years.
I’d bet the 16 year plateau is flat to one sigma.
It’s just playing with words and end dates. Compare with satellite data also.

25. I ordered a calendar a while back. Payed for it, with my own money unlike some Mann I know but have yet to receive it! Do I have to wait till 2014 or what’s up with that. @ dsrsrc@ hotmail.com

26. Would Anthony consider giving this new 24/7 ‘Gore’s Last Stand’ AGW global site some point by point reality checks?

27. I recently created a new group called Global Warming for Layman, in my Facebook page (see https://www.facebook.com/groups/GWforlayman/ ), to discuss issues relating to global warming in simple terms so that even a layperson can understand the “science”. My favorite hero in this context is the Nobel laureate Ernest Rutherford (discovered the atomic nucleus) who used to say, “One should be able to talk physics even with a bar maid.” Please take a look at what I am doing there and join the group if it seems appropriate. I have provided links to a couple of article from this website. Thanks.

28. HuMMM FUNNY no ads on this page !!!!! the one ad-bull is right the ffff in the meddle of what I’m trying to read ! and the bottom right popup that shows a X brings up a new window if you don’t get this under ???? HAVE YOU BEEN HACKED !!!!
