What's wrong with climate activism and some climate scientists in one ugly nutshell

We’ve seen instances of this before – wishing disaster upon humanity so that it can be used for climate propaganda. However, this tweet from Greg Blanchette sent to the attention of Michael Mann and “get a vasectomy to save the planet” guy Eric Holthaus is particularly galling.

ass_kicking_blanchette
( From: https://twitter.com/gregvlee/status/501936826995994624 )

Predictably, neither Mann nor Holthaus have said anything in their feeds against this inanity, suggesting they agree. Reading Mann’s Twitter feed is like a trip into some sort of alternate universe, where Mann’s ego is a black hole, with its gravity pulling in all rational thought and disintegrating it at the event horizon.

What does it say about climate scientists when they agree that death and destruction are a means of elevating climate communication and their cause? To me it says they are anti-human people.

Ignorant Tweet. a) Hurricanes are weather, not climate. b) Hurricane damage would require major repairs, thus requiring the burning of fossil fuels.

Most climate activist are also self described “progressives”. So it’s always about population being too high, back to the turn of the 20th century & Margret Sanger. So a few people dying during hurricane is a good thing to these people. IMO.

It must be very difficult to be the bearer of gloom and doom and to have mother nature disappoint you year after year. Surely these prognosticators feel resentful and strike out at mother nature providing the world with year after year of benign and even wonderful weather. Where are the Katrina’s when you really need them? Is it too much to ask for a few thousand dead and half a million homeless?

Climate alarmists have a real problem right now with the record shattering time without a major hurricane hitting landfall in the US. 2005 was the last time a catagory 3 or higher hurricane has hit the US, thats over 3200 days, breaking the old record by over 900 days. How can they say extreme weather is increasing with global warming with this record in their face? You can’t get anymore extreme weather than a major hurricane. Major hurricanes are the most potentially dangerous and destructive and not to mention dramatic weather event news media like the weather channel can broadcast to scare people into thinking we need to change the weather. They feel stupid right now saying extreme weather will continue to increase with the record major hurricane lull out there, so they need that record to end to help their agenda. And don’t you also know, even though it has been a record lull, the next time a major hurricane does hit the US they will say its because of global warming causing more extreme weather. As dumb as that is, they will say it.

How about: “I hope more children are beheaded in Iraq, it would motivate us to act.” It’s the same ugly sentiment. It’s hate speech. And he’s hoping ruin on a huge percent of the nation, literally millions of people.

I’m not sure what it’d take to make Greg and Mikie Mann happy.
They seem to want major pain and dying here at home.
Would 2 thousand to 3 thousand American deaths be enough or do they want more like 40 thousand to 50 thousand so they can really, really, really enjoy climate change and make sure all those little poor people suffer?
By what I’ve been reading from greens in general 100 thousand deaths would be even better.
Idiots lie about hurricanes anyway.
We’ve had fewer, not more.

When I take the time to argue the CAGW concept with my local Alarmed about Climate activists, The conversation always comes around to the number of people on this planet, that resources are limited, that wealth is finite and that our environment is worse than it ever was.

He says, “I kind of hope N. America gets its ass kicked in the hurricane season…” They certainly do hate the United States, and are working very actively for its downfall by attacking agriculture, energy, personal transportation, educational freedom, the ability of all people to engage in commercial activity – basically the middle class. That’s a clue!
The only reason I appreciate and love the US, it’s history, it’s Constitution, the Amendments, and the separation of powers, is because I escaped, gradually, ALL of the philosophies and attitudes of the Baby Boomers, and that happened through a spiritual conversion. I now know that every individual person is equally loved, eternally existent, and every person is responsible for his or her own life, motives, words and decisions – and will experience the consequences of those [1]. But the animus is definitely directed at the free world. It’s hippies!

As appalling as the statement is I must admit that I too share in this unfortunate trait in human nature. I so long for a global cooling period even though I know it would mean substantial human suffering. I rationalize my desire for global cooling by concluding that there would be a net benefit via reduction in incidents of global warming alarm syndrome madness that has such a devastating effect on humanity and the environment. Perhaps the greatest instrument for human atrocities and perpetrations of evil is the ability to rationalize; either that or bureaucracies.

What kind of person wishes disaster and destruction on his fellow man to further his ideology? Or has no problem hoping for and even plotting the demise of billions of people to “save the earth”?
“The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), released by the American Psychiatric Association in 2013, lists both sociopathy and psychopathy under the heading of Antisocial Personality Disorders (ASPD). These disorders share many common behavioral traits which lead to the confusion between them. Key traits that sociopaths and psychopaths share include:
A disregard for laws and social mores
A disregard for the rights of others
A failure to feel remorse or guilt
A tendency to display violent behavior
Psychopaths…are unable to form emotional attachments or feel real empathy with others, although they often have disarming or even charming personalities. Psychopaths are very manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them, and will appear normal to unsuspecting people. Psychopaths are often well educated and hold steady jobs. Some are so good at manipulation and mimicry that they have families and other long-term relationships without those around them ever suspecting their true nature. When committing crimes, psychopaths carefully plan out every detail in advance and often have contingency plans in place. Unlike their sociopathic counterparts, psychopathic criminals are cool, calm, and meticulous.” http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wicked-deeds/201401/how-tell-sociopath-psychopath.” http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wicked-deeds/201401/how-tell-sociopath-psychopath

On the other hand, these eco socialists have done a great job in creating food riots via their bio fuels idea. Foot riots and have returned the world only recently, and the world food bank states that MOST of this starvation is due to bio fuels – the DIRECT result of greens telling us we need to save the planet.
Of course just like the fiasco in Spain, the result is people struggling on a daily basis to put food on their tables.
So if mother nature cannot provide the disasters, their policies much result creating crisis of their own. The fact that these people “wish” for disasters is rather telling of their values.
Biofuels have been one of the worst disasters pushed by the Greens.
Imagine that, burring FOOD in your car while women and children are staving to death!
The world food bank estimates fully 75% of the rise is due to these REALLY stupid GREEN’S idea of burning GOOD food in cars while women and children go hungry!
Gosh, even the price of beer in Germany gone up because of burning hops and barley normally reserved for beer.
Even prices of pasta have gone up in Italy – due to a LARGE increases in guess what?
Durham wheat for bio fuel!
You guessed it, government ethanol programs are burning wheat!
How stupid can you folks get!!!! Wheat in cars?
Biofuels behind food price hikes: leaked World Bank report
Fri Jul 4, 3:34 AM ET
Biofuels have caused world food prices to increase by 75 percent, according to the findings of an unpublished World Bank report published in The Guardian newspaper on Friday.
The daily said the report was finished in April but was not published to avoid embarrassing the US government, which has claimed plant-derived fuels have pushed up prices by only three percent.
Biofuels, which supporters claim are a “greener” alternative to using fossil fuel and cut greenhouse gas emissions, and rising food prices will be on the agenda when G8 leaders meet in Japan next week for their annual summit.
The report’s author, a senior World Bank economist, assessed that contrary to claims by US President George W. Bush, increased demand from India and China has not been the cause of rising food prices.
“Rapid income growth in developing countries has not led to large increases in global grain consumption and was not a major factor responsible for the large price increases,” the report said.
The European Union has mooted using biofuels for up to 10 percent of all transport fuels by 2020 as part of an increase in use of renewable energy.
All petrol and diesel in Britain has had to include a biofuels component of at least 2.5 percent since April this year.
“Without the increase in biofuels, global wheat and maize stocks would not have declined appreciably and price increases due to other factors would have been moderate,” the report said.
It added that the drive for biofuels has distorted food markets by diverting grain away from food for fuel, encouraging farmers to set aside land for its production, and sparked financial speculation on grains.
“The basket of food prices examined in the study rose by 140 percent between 2002 and this February,” The Guardian said.
“The report estimates that higher energy and fertilizer prices accounted for an increase of only 15 percent, while biofuels have been responsible for a 75 percent jump over that period.”

‘However, this tweet from Greg Blanchette sent to the attention of Michael Mann and “get a vasectomy to save the planet” guy Eric Holthaus is particularly …’
The foregoing line reminds me of an old joke. Now, I have no knowledge of whether Michael Mann has ever had a vasectomy, nor would I ever want to except, perhaps, to wonder whether it would be useful. But, for the sake of humor let us assume he has. And, I do know, with certainty, that not too long ago Michael Mann was in boulder strewn, volcanic, glacial, Iceland.
So, assuming Michael Mann has saved the planet by having a vasectomy, allow me to tell a revised version of that old joke. Here goes: ‘What do you call Michael Mann with a vasectomy in Iceland?’
‘Dry Sack on the rocks.’

All people, including me it goes without saying, have found themselves hoping for something bad to happen for selfish reasons, though for most I’d say this is limited to small scale happenings…e.g., “I hope that narcissistic blow hard gets his.” Anyone denying this, is either lying or out of touch with their feelings. But I see this also on a larger scale, for example a weather forecaster I know rooting for a hurricane to strike to prove his prediction right. Pretty bad, eh? On the other hand, given our evolutionary journey from the ;primordial ooze, one can hardly be surprised. To be a decent human being is to be continually at war with our animal endowments.
All that said, there are very few of us selfish enough to, if it were possible, cause a destructive event to occur. Would that forecaster I mentioned actually push a secret button if such a thing existed, to cause a hurricane? Highly doubtful.
But somehow I have no trouble picturing some of the profoundly narcissistic greenies doing just such a thing, likely under cover of certain “ends justifying the means” rationalizations. But of course they’d just be fooling themselves.

It’s no secret that left wing progressives (a subset of which are CAGW climate scientists) are trying to destroy our country, so comments like this are not surprising to me. What IS surprising is that NONE of the mainstream climate scientists attempt to correct their out-of-control brethren when they make ridiculous proclamations in the main stream media.

John — a rational reason for doing so is that it could lead to epistemic humility among scientists and a healthy skepticism towards scientific authorities among the populace going forward. It would be far better than the potentially disastrous epistemic path we are now on.

I can see your point but don’t hope for it, fear it. It will affect everyone including those in the wealthy countries (just not as much as the poor). It is easy to hope for something that proves your position but much harder to just follow the evidence and adjust as best you can.
While it might correct some of the funds being spent on the CAGW scam it wouldn’t mean they would suddenly start doing real science. Your last sentence is a classic. Very true and the best defense is to be aware of it in one’s own world views.

What does it say about them? That they are completely nuts, if what they are truly about is wanting to save lives: “Let’s hope bad weather kills a lot of people so we can fight bad weather that kills a lot of people.” But if that’s just their ostensible justification for their true motivation of acquiring control over the economy so they can retrofit society for their idea of paradise (for many of them meaning the elimination of about 6.5 billion), then it is immensely evil hypocrisy: “Let’s hope bad weather kills a lot of people so we can get control over the world’s economy and, for the sake of the planet, kill a whole lot more.”

The worst part of the anti-human slant of the climate alarmists is that it is contagious. We are again rapidly approaching the annual Arctic sea ice minimum. The competitive nature of predictions of the minimum has repeatedly led me to have to pull myself up short when I realized I had begun to root for ice and snow, which are in almost all situations, mortal dangers to humanity. From the nature of the comments on threads concerning this topic I am hardly the only one who falls into this trap.
Fortunately, most of the other ballyhooed “catastrophes” of the alarmists, are subverted by phenomena which are generally more benevolent for humanity, but the alarmist crowd is always trying to redefine the language and structure of the discussion, to the extent that they are willing to allow that discussion is even possible, to make sure that if we choose to attempt to argue with them. it will always be on their terms.

It appears that Mann has an absurd self-scripted heroic mythology with himself and his associates as the righteous heroes on a sacred journey through what they see as unclean skeptical badlands blighted by capitalistic fossil fueled industrialization. It is a weird fairy tale like mythology that has them destined to reach a Garden of GAIA Paradise where he and his associates are placed on the throne of a scientific kingdom over the whole earth. Pure Hollywood grade B movie stuff.
His mythology hasn’t worked because people in the general culture have seen and distrust the pseudo-science promoted by obviously compromised CAGW activists as if it were science.
The myth is so badly created that it couldn’t be sold to the general culture even with massive promotional help of virtually all the liberal MSM.

Much of the “global warming” movement shares the bed with the Malthusians thinking population should be reduced 80% to “save the planet!” They are all nuts and the facts are very simple:
CO2 is a “trace gas” in air, insignificant by definition. It absorbs 1/7th as much IR, heat energy, from sunlight as water vapor which has 188 times as many molecules capturing 1200 times as much heat making 99.9% of all “global warming.” CO2 does only 0.1% of it. For this we should destroy our economy?
The Medieval Warming from 800 AD to 1300 AD that Micheal Mann erased to make his “hockey stick” was several degrees warmer than anything “global warmers” fear. It was the longest recorded time, 500 years, of peace with great abundance for all.
The Vostock Ice Core data analysis show CO2 increases follow temperature increases by 800 years 19 times in 450,000 years. That makes temperature change cause and CO2 change effect; not the other way around. This alone refutes the anthropogenic global warming concept.
Carbon combustion generates 80% of our energy. Control and taxing of carbon would give the elected ruling class more power and money than anything since the Magna Carta of 1215 AD.
Most scientists and science educators work for tax supported institutions eager to help government raise more money for them. And, they love being seen as “saving the planet.”
Google “Two Minute Conservative,” and you will be applauded when you speak truth at your next dinner party, barbecue or church picnic.

It is a major part of why people who should know better support restrictions on fossil fuels, heedless of the loss of ALL life in order to hurt people. This lack of trust in the Universe (or God if you want), also called “scacity-think,” is what is really behind every genocide and a great many other harms.
The most famous genocide was the Nazi one. They had school children’s arithmetic lessons on how many calories a mentally retarded person ate and so on, and this feeling that there wasn’t plenty, wasn’t even enough to go around, was why they starved mental patients to death and then did the same to so many others, most famously the Jews.
The Irish Potato Famine was also a deliberate genocide driven by Malthusian fear. The Irish grew more than enough food to feed their entire population. The English stole it. Irish livestock and other foodstuffs were shipped to England because England said the world would be better with fewer Irish people.
You think the USA is too noble to fall for this stuff? We denied the Jewish people refuge in America because we believed “Eugenics” was a science and Jews would lower that national caliber. We could have saved every single one of the 6 million Jews, and many other Nazi victims. We would be a richer nation today if we had. At least we did save thousands.
You can only act on what you understand. Believing the world was limited, the USA in the 1950’s perpetrated a holocaust on Asian Indians. We believed their periodic famines were due to having “too many people,” so we rounded up many thousands, put them into escape-proof concentration camps and fed them the same number of calories per person that the Nazis had given the Jews.
You all learned about Malthus in school, but he did not really originate this stuff. Chinese emperors and Roman nobility believed population needed to be controlled before the time of Christ.
The truth is, humans are creative and find new uses for things, causing a constant increase in available resources over time. The more people there are, the higher the civilization can be.
You can get a more detailed understanding of this from Robert Zubrin’s 2012 book, “Merchants of Despair.”

They often do. Lindzen does, for example. But the MSM does not report such things.

Maybe the warmest have a little ‘ denier ‘ in them, hoping that they will be one of the lucky ones to survive. They should write self deprecating statements and list formally the sins they’ve committed against AGW. Ignoring the poverty creeping up on them and the lost ability to do anything, what ever the climate is. And as time goes by, that spanking new green on the uniforms takes on a decidedly reddish hue. Probably due to the increased co2 absorbing the infra red, and therefore they must be eliminated from causing anymore damage to the planet. Don’t worry, your death will ensure that the planet will survive, and those caring individuals who are left in charge.

The last couple of runs of that model have shifted it farther east and other models, that even have it are all east of that location. Dr. Spencer was just showing something interesting and indicated that it might not even form and could hit anywhere even if it did.
Please know that future model forecasts are likely to change the track and strength significantly so that the target could be anywhere from the Gulf to the East Coast and the strength could be anything from a tropical wave to a major hurricane early next week.

Beaten to a comment again…
“What’s wrong with climate activism…?” There is very little right for one thing; but Robert Bissett went and describes them better.

“Robert Bissett says: August 20, 2014 at 10:02 am
A tendency to display violent behavior…”

I’d like to add:
Unable to differentiate between right and wrong but often prefers wrong for the attention they garner.
Self-centered, sometimes having very sensitive egos the size of planets.
Whatever they do, everyone else must accept or even revere.
An odd consideration is that collusions with other activists is a defensive perimeter against everyone else. Many violent gangs apply their most severe treatment against apparent defectors.

That’s fantastic Anthony. One of those things you read and think to yourself – “Gee – I wish I had come up with something like that”. Perfect, since Mann reflects no true light whatsoever, just infinite darkness. I bow before your eloquence – though I am only a little over 3 feet tall so don’t get a big head of your own over it.

if the Farmers’ Almanac is right…there could be an increase in Winter deaths! Hurricanes not likely:
20 Aug: AP: Rik Stevens: Almanac predicts colder winter, hotter summer
The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the familiar, 223-year-old chronicler of climate, folksy advice and fun facts, is predicting a colder winter and warmer summer for much of the nation.
Published Wednesday, the New Hampshire-based almanac predicts a “super-cold” winter in the eastern two-thirds of the country. The west will remain a little bit warmer than normal.
“Colder is just almost too familiar a term,” Editor Janice Stillman said. “Think of it as a refriger-nation.”…
Hurricane season isn’t expected to be especially active though a major storm could hit the Gulf Coast in late August…
The almanac, which has about an 80 percent success rate in its forecasts, employs modern technology but still uses the “secret formula” that founder Robert Thomas devised in 1792. By combining the study of sunspots, prevailing weather patterns and basic meteorology, the almanac’s weather staff comes up with a long-range forecast. The temperature deviations are based on 30-year averages compiled by government forecasters.

If a Cat 5 hurricane were to hit Miami heading north up highway US1.
Probably this would be the worst ever for Lives and Dollars.(God forbid)
This should meet with these misanthropists approval.
However;
It would have NOTHING to do with Climate Change/ Global warming.

It would be within historical perspectives
Everyone in Florida should know such a storm is possible any and every season.

Here’s hoping for a mid sized low wind tropical storm to pass over Florida. We could use the rain as this week a high pressure center has moved over us bringing little chance of daily rain for several more days.

I am personally familiar with Greg and his views/antics.
He lives in Tofino when he can find housing that meets his criteria…
Unfortunately for him, during the summer he is out competed by servers, surf instructors, baristas, and dishwashers for accommodations available.
He recently Tweeted,
“I’ve been living in Ontario for the summer ’cause i can’t find or afford housing in Tofino. See you in the fall, though.”
I must say, I do miss his arm-waving and hand-wringing about just about everything.
It’s special characters like him that make Tofino such an entertaining place to be part of the BIG EVIL CORPORATE CONSPIRACY MACHINE!

In my opinion, the reason both have earned what respect they have is because they base their forecast on what conditions have happened in the past and what followed being likely to repeat, with or without CO2 or any other Mann-made influence. Just like our best weather forecasters.

Not that I’m suggesting such, but the assassination of Al Gore, the top leadership of Greenpeace, the ICCC (or whatever those supermodels are), and the rest would cause a large drop in the carbon footprint.
Climate conference should ban air-travel as a means of getting to them (and really, hasn’t everyone heard of Skype?).
Perhaps something lesser. Slash the tires on the evil carbon burning vehicles. Call in terrorist threats (destroying the planet by emitting carbon, you see) so the airports are shutdown.
And again, the elephant (as in the GOP won’t notice) in the room is the carbon footprint of our military. Now in Ferguson MO. The EPA should fine the police for releasing toxic substances.

john robertson, What strike me funny how little they are willing to finance the issues they support, it has dawn on me lately we should have a two tiered tax system based on you political views if you believe in big government helping and directing everyone regardless of need or public healt risk (IE if a lot will kill you we most remove all regardless of the law of diminishing returns of in the case of a poison it the dose that counts.) You should pay a large tax and if you believe in limit government doing the minimal so that we do take care of the basic problem based on need and public health you should pay a different tax rate, how much do you want to bet to the most part if we had such a tax system, there would be few Progressive or Democrats.

Thanatism (n, neologism from Gr. thanatos, “death”; cf: Kaligarchy): Not nihilism but a
(typically Malthusian) Luddite sociopathology, an existential “phobia of Being.” Derogating
post-Enlightenment industrial-scientific-technological civilization as antithetical to “natural world” environmental integrity (as if any human artifact could be “unnatural”), kaligarchic Thanatists advocate exterminating 95% of human populations by holodomic famine and disease.

I lived in Houston for 6 years and lived in Texas for almost 40 years. I have been through numerous tropical storms and one/two hurricanes (can’t really remember). Additionally, I have been in a typhoon while visiting family in Taiwan. Anthony, I think you are over exaggerating the cost. What is the cost if the extreme drought continues in TX? The Highland lakes weren’t filled by normal rainfall patterns. I think you are wrong on this issue. I did not ask for North America to get its ass by the hurricane season. Hurricanes are a natural phenomenon. While they cannot be mitigated, the cost of their effects can. I am not a warmist.

Even the overpopulation meme is groundless. The Low Fertility Band of the UN Population Survey has the only record of accuracy, and projects peak 8bn before mid-century, and then steady decline. Under-population and collapsing work forces will be the real issue. We’ll need billions of androids.
