An Inconvenient Sequel- more climate Gore from Hollywood ?

Movie sequels almost never do as well as the original, and given the sort of public opinion we are seeing about global warming/climate change/climate disruption, this idea for a sequel to An Inconvenient Truth will likely go over like a lead balloon.

AIT2

(h/t to WUWT Jason) They write:

Al Gore might need to dust off his projector. The creative forces behind the Oscar-winning environmental documentary An Inconvenient Truth are hatching plans for a sequel to the film that raised global awareness of climate change. “We have had conversations,” producer Lawrence Bender tells THR. “We’ve met; we’ve discussed. If we are going to make a movie, we want it to have an impact.”

Heh, like Gore’s Reality Drop…

I predict it will bomb. They went to the well too many times. People were intrigued when it was new. Now they see it as a schtick. It’ll just be Gore enriching himself. I predict it does no where near what first one did. This is similar to when musicians or movie stars go back to what they did before once their celebrity fails. They just hope to remind people of what made them popular in the first place.

These producers should realize that last time there was a big vacuum amongst the public when it came to knowledge of climate, models, etc.Gore had, essentially, no critics. Different this time
around. There will be a multitude willing and able to shred anything Gore says.

I don’t think they have the balls. This is the age of the blogosphere. Here’s the sequence of events:
Day 1, movie is released.
Day 2, claims in the movie are shredded on WUWT and other blogs.
Day 3, the people going to the movie are full of skeptics with printed out lists of all the inaccuracies to hand out to other people….
I dare them.
I double dare them.

MTV picked this up and offered a list of possible titles:
“An Inconvenient Truth: Age of Extinction”
“Convenient Lies”
“An Inconvenient Truth Rises”
“Another 48 Inconvenient Truths”
“An Inconvenient Truth: Why Aren’t You People Listening?”
“An Inconvenienter Truth”
“Two Inconvenient Truths And a Lie”
“2 Inconvenient 2 Truth”
“An Inconvenient Truth: Revolution”
“Dawn Of The Planet Of The Inconvenient Truth”
“An Inconvenient Truth 2: (Turbine-Generated) Electric Boogaloo”
Correct me if I’m mistaken, but it appears they are mocking Al Gore. This is good sign, he’s losing the Gen-xers.

behind paywall, where it should stay. extra text found on Climate Depot:
3 April: UK Times: Ben Webster: Crackdown ordered on climate-change sceptics
Ministers who question the majority view among scientists about climate change should “shut up” and instead repeat the Government line on the issue, according to MPs.
The BBC should also give less airtime to climate sceptics and its editors should seek special clearance to interview them, according to the Commons Science and Technology Committee. Andrew Miller, the committee’s Labour chairman, said that appearances on radio and television by climate sceptics such as Lord Lawson of Blaby, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, should be accompanied by “health warnings”.
Mr Miller likened climate sceptics to the Monster Raving Loony Party and said that the BBC should limit interviews with them just as it restricted the coverage it gave to fringe political parties.
In a report published today, the committee criticises the BBC’s coverage of climate change, saying that its news programmes “continue to make mistakes in their coverage of climate science by giving opinions and scientific fact the same weight”.
The MPs say that the BBC should apply the same “stringent requirements” to interviewing climate sceptics as it applies to interviewing politicians…
The committee also criticises the Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph for placing “heavy reliance . . . on the ability of their readers to distinguish between fact and opinion on climate science”.
Responding to Mr Miller’s comments, Lord Lawson said: “I think it is appalling that a member of the House of Commons should want to shut down debate on this issue.”…
(LOL, IF ONLY) BBC: While the vast bulk of our interviews are with climate scientists, as part of our commitment to impartiality it is important that dissenting voices are also heard.”

“inconvenient truths” in the European Parliament (which is always good for a laugh). BBC’s Rendall couldn’t make the piece more unintelligible if he tried but, basically, Intercontinental flights are still exempted:
2 April: BBC: Alasdair Rendall: Wednesday in the European Parliament
21:05: MEPs are debating the future of the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme – specifically a proposal to exempt emissions from intercontinental flights.
21:05: The ETS is an attempt to reduce carbon emissions, but there has been longstanding disagreements over how this can be applied to the aviation sector.
21:06: A compromise agreement reached between EU governments and MEPs would see intercontinental flights exempted until 2017.
21:06: The parliament’s negotiator on the proposals, the German centre-right MEP Peter Liese says the compromise agreement is “living up to reality”.
21:12: The procedure being debated is known as “stop-the-clock” procedure, and it is an attempt to allow other countries to work towards a global agreement on charging airlines for the contribution air travel makes to greenhouse gas emissions.
21:13: At committee stage the proposed compromise was rejected.
21:14: It was rejected on a tied vote – 29-29, meaning that the status quo remains.
21:16: Socialist spokesman Matthias Groote is a long-term opponent of the compromise and has accused the EU of “bowing down to bullying by non-EU countries”
21:19: Intra-EU flights would continue to fall (sic) part of the ETS.
21:22: British Conservative spokesperson, Jacqui Foster MEP says the uncertainty over the proposals has put in jeopardy “large aircraft orders, which threatens investment and jobs”. She says that environmental impacts can be mitigated through advances in technology.
21:23: She ends her speech with a scathing attack on the Commissioner, saying “your approach was naive and patronising. Next time you come up with a stupid idea, you should think about its impact before coming to this house.”
http://www.bbc.co.uk/democracylive/europe-26855029
2 March: Reuters: REFILE-European Commission backs down over aviation emissions ahead of crunch vote
(Corrects format of dateline)
The European Commission urged the bloc’s Parliament to exempt international flights from paying for their carbon emissions on Wednesday, retreating from its own proposal on the eve of a binding vote amid pressure from national governments.
In a late night debate in the Brussels parliamentary chamber, Europe’s climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard told members to back a weakened compromise rather than her own agency’s proposal to regulate the portion of international flights over EU territory.
“Without doubt the Commission would of course have preferred and fought for a higher level of ambition…. it would’ve been better for Europe’s self respect and reputation and even more important, for the climate. But we are where we are,” said Hedegaard…
The centre-right European People’s Party, the biggest parliamentary grouping with around a third of the 766 seats, wants to keep international flights exempt while the second-placed Socialists and third-ranked Liberals were split ahead of the vote…

2 April: Bloomberg: Karin Mattusek: Two Britons Charged in Deutsche Bank-Related CO2 Tax Probe
Frankfurt prosecutors charged two U.K. citizens in a tax-evasion probe that also ensnared two of the highest-ranking officials at Deutsche Bank …
The British pair, aged 36 and 39, were accused of being part of a gang that tricked the authorities on value-added tax refunds in carbon emission trades, prosecutors’ spokesman Alexander Badle said in an e-mailed statement today. The men, who didn’t work for Deutsche Bank, were arrested in the U.K. last year, were responsible for evading 31 million euros ($43 million) of taxes, according to the statement…
The case is part of a wider probe in which Deutsche Bank co-Chief Executive Officer Juergen Fitschen and Chief Financial Officer Stefan Krause are also being investigated. Six men were found guilty in December 2011 of evading a total of 260 million euros in taxes on carbon emission trades while running companies. They were sentenced to prison sentences of as long as seven years and 10 months…
Prosecutors are investigating about 25 people at the Frankfurt-based company in the case. Some of the lenders’ employees are being investigated for purchasing the emissions allowances…

On March 28th Valerie Jarrett made a trip to Hollywood to get the movie people to help with the perception problems the Obama administration was having with some of its policies. Could she have possibly planted the seed for a movie like this? It would give the Mainstream Press something to talk about in 2016 besides failed administration policies.
What are the chances taxpayer stimulus money will guarantee this movie, if it is in fact made, makes a profit?

There is already a film called “An Inconvenient Truth 2” from 2012.
It is shown in the UK on something called The Community Channel AKA the Who The Hell Is Watching This Channel?
On IMDB it’s maker has posted the synopsis below – nobody else has been interested enough to comment on or rate the film.
“After graduating in philosophy and politics, Jack Guest single-handedly funded, directed and produced a film to address the impact of climate change and uncover workable solutions.
Inspired by former United States Vice President Al Gore’s 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth, Jack travels by boat to Sweden, a country aiming to break its dependency on oil by 2020, to speak with leading politicians, scientists and entrepreneurs. Jack also meets with families committed to reducing their impact on the environment and visits an eco-village completely dependent on renewable resources.
Jack says: In no uncertain terms we face a huge problem on planet earth and An Inconvenient Truth 2 looks at turning that problem into an opportunity, showing that we can make things work, for everybody. It gives a positive message that things can get better and that change does not have to mean sacrifice.”
He asserts: we already have the answers to climate change and we just need to implement them. The solutions for a stable climate do exist and they can enrich rather than restrict our daily lives.”

A brilliant idea, hopefully as a documentary of the making of the AGW rumour into the CAGW cash grab.
With loving profiles of all the main actors, Al , Maurice, Michael…their contributing roles and the cost to the taxpayers of the each actors participation.
Extra credits for showing how each has profited from spreading false fears of climate.
Starring the bureaucrats of the world famous kleptocracy, the UN.
In the credits I trust they will name all those who have died prematurely due to idiotic policies imposed in the name of the Inconvenient Truth, pushed off their homelands for alternative energy fads and a special shout out to all the poor brown people who’s misery has been prolonged by these eco-loons.
If they wait long enough they could even cover the collapse of the big lie and the astonishingly unpleasant fallout.
Course if this is to be done by Big Al and friends.. some will need ghost writers.

Our amazing Mike MacCracken is at it defending the IPCC:
“Mike MacCracken Today at 2:49 PMToSkeptics,
You ought to at least give consideration to the possibility that you might be on the wrong side of things, given that the chances of having gotten so many nations and so many in the scientific community to be endorsing the IPCC findings (note that I actually think them too cautious) would involve having created a conspiracy far larger than any that has ever existed.
Mike MacCracken”
Oh sure Mikey, all this money from the UN, the EU, all these university departments of sustainable -put your own field here-, the synchronicity of the MSM as soon as some alarmist paper hits the news, the absence of any referendum on carbon taxation, and so on, sure Mikey all this is pure luck, pure coincidence. And I have a bridge to sell you too… especially if that’s your last line of argument.

If you want a prequel viewing, go to attend a Climate Reality Leadership Corps presentation. The slides are basically an update of the “Inconvenient Truth” presentation. You can track local presentations, or even request one, at this website: http://climaterealityproject.org/leadership-corps/
Gore & Co. will do the following to stir up interest:
a) tie CAGW with opposition to fracking: The Greens are REALLY up in arms about fracking, and the Goracle will attempt to tap into this energy. I’m watching it happen with local groups.
b) Climate Disruption: the storyline is being prepared to include much more than just warming, including reasons why the warming caused this past winter’s severe cold temperature, how increased moisture levels in the atmosphere actually exacerbate droughts, etc. I kid you not.
c) It’s more than just carbon dioxide: Already, the Obama administration is going after methane, please see http://feedstuffs.com/story-administration-releases-methane-strategy-45-110598
Don’t count these bums out as dead yet. Like vampires and zombies, they keep popping up when you least expect it.

In all seriousness, in order to better sell their product alarmism, they need to play even more on people’s ignorance and emotion, via stunning graphic imagery. Lots of “smokestacks” billowing what appears to be smoke, but which is actually condensed steam, or condensate, and lots of images of smog conditions, such as the recent one in Paris. This helps cement the idea of the “carbon pollution” we are “killing our planet” with. Then, show lots of images of drought conditions – caked and cracked mud is always good, because it shows what was once wet and is now dry. Then, for the piece de resistance, show lots of violent storms and tornadoes, both during and after. Even the recent mudslide in Washinton would be good. Forest fires are also good to show, being very dramatic, and playing on people’s fear of those. Show people sweltering in heat wave conditions, with shots of bank thermometers showing 100+ degree temperatures. Then, show people living in misery, especially the poor, and especially the very young. Hunger, malnutrition, and disease really tug at the heartstrings. Throw in a polar bear or two, appearing to be “stranded” on an iceberg, and then lots of calving glaciers, which are always dramatic. Show whales and dolphins, because people like those, and the implication would be that they are being threatened, somehow, by our use of fossil fuels. Show an evil drilling rig and oil pipeline being built, and mining operations. Even deforested areas are good subjects, even if there isn’t an obvious connection to our fossil fuels, since it is being done by man. The connection has now been made, purely through visual imagery and the use of emotion, between man’s use of fossil fuels and everything bad that happens. Once they have thoroughly depressed everyone about how evil we humans, especially in the west are, they need to show how “scientists” and activists are working feverishly and heroically to save the planet. Show windfarms and solar installations and show tree planting (because people who like fossil fuels hate trees). Show the valiant IPCC hard at work, “solving” the planetary crisis. This is the big hallelujah moment, so really play this up, with lots of dramatic, uplifting music. Show kids recycling, and picking up litter. I’m sure there’s lots more, but you get the idea.
I’m just trying to help them.

Looks like someone had a hidden camera in the marketing meeting for Al’s new movie:

Calley – that video must be really going viral. I got it yesterday with the caption of someone secretly taping our planning meetings. 😉

Heartland, Koch and big oil should be queuing up to fund this. The money would be peanuts. The embarrassment would be priceless.

The original already had an impact, it made the world aware Al Gore is an idiot.

$50 M worldwide? According to BoxOfficeMojo, that wouldn’t even make their list of top 500 box office (which starts at over $215 M). Anythingless than $50 M will likely not cover the electric bill for his Tennessee mansion.

This time the should call it what the first one should have been called ” A Convenient Lie”

Just more evidence of desperation setting in for the cult. They know if they can’t get their agenda pushed through the legal system in the next few years they never will.

Speaking of Mann’s colleague from Princeton (they also gave us Bernanke and Woodrow Wilson)
Oppenheimer, he made the WUWT list of 107 most idiotic past predictions :
88. Michael Oppenheimer, 1990, The Environmental Defense Fund: “By 1995, the greenhouse effect would be desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots…”(By 1996) The Platte River of Nebraska would be dry, while a continent-wide black blizzard of prairie topsoil will stop traffic on interstates, strip paint from houses and shut down computers…The Mexican police will round up illegal American migrants surging into Mexico seeking work as field hands.”
Princeton apparently is unaware of the brainless spoutings of their professor.
Mann’s most famous recent faux pas was he statement that “warming hasn’t stopped. It’s only slowed down.” [As in stopped]
Add Lewandowsky and we have the Collegiate Three Stooges, right here, folks!!!

The sequel should make it for sure, but more in documentary style with Leonard Nimoy as narrator:

more soylent green!

If they incorporate a “Sharknado”-like theme, they could have a smash it on their hands. Maybe combine that with a secret anti-climate cabal run by alien overlords and a parasitic giant worm the aliens use for mind-control of the Koch brothers.

Napoleon said to not interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Shhhh…… be vewy vewy quiet….
When they made the first movie, no one was fact checking them very closely. As with the “science” behind it, people were naive and willing to take their word for it. Besides it was “science” wasn’t it?
The difference this time is that (1) alarmists are exceedingly desperate and bound to come out with the craziest shit yet, (2) we, the sceptics are primed and ready to fact check them to the Nth degree. and (3) No one, or at least very few people, actually believes a word they say now. Our job is already 80% done.
I say, let them make a sequel. Pull out the popcorn. They might as well put a big bullseye on the cover. This time it will not take a year or two to demolish it like the last time. It likely will be publicly demolished before it even is released. And if not, it will be demolished very quickly. Another exceedingly public demolition will be another high profile nail in the coffin for AGW. Bring it on.

Well…. to go along with the new and updated movie which promises to show that EVERYTHING (according to environmentalist Laurie David) they claimed in the original movie has come to pass, there appears to be a real move in the UK to outlaw skeptics from talking about climate. No need to specially mention what type of tactics these developments are following.

A great sequel. Al Gore applying all his B.S. to himself leading by example. In fact I’d like to see a documentary depicting how the loudest alarmist mouths are living their personal lives with respect to their alarmism. Called an inconvenient but obvious and predictable hypocrisy.

Well, Golden Raspberry for a Worst Picture of the Century is yet to be awarded.

The late Stephen Snieder was in that film, he advised Al with Hansen. So, batten down the hatches, it would also make it a bit difficult for planes too. Getting iced up causes accidents. I think we will all move to the Southern Hemisphere.

Aren’t they concerned about the additional methane a sequel would produce?

bushbunny
April 4, 2014 8:31 pm

Gunga Din, Oh, Ross Gaunaut said farm kangaroos instead of beef and cattle as kangaroos don’t burb or fart methane. We do too by the way and many Africans have goats, sheep and cattle. I laughed, if they were that easy to farm then the Aborigines would have done it. Their gestational cycles and they are marsupials of course, would not take well to captivity. Besides the fact they can attack you protecting their babies, and a mother will take out her baby from her pouch if she is hunted and hide it, some are too small to survive on their own. They will also withhold fertilized embryoes should the climate not be considered to favor her bringing an embryo into her pouch. Gud one Ross, but you got the raspberry when you visited New England and went to one sustainable farm and the farmer said ‘I am not doing this to protect the environment and climate I am doing it to get more healthy stock and production.”
Did not Partcharie suggest that becoming vegan or vegetarian would help stop climate change. He’s a Hindu, I suspect. Mind you I don’t eat meat as much as I used too, and favor free range eggs, chickens and pork. When I can get them is now up to $31 a kilo for some cuts of lamb and beef. But mainly the price! Fish now is almost as expensive as meat, and the dieticians tell us to eat lots of fish. Even kangaroo is now for sale, I don’t like it, a bit like venison (game) you need to add lots of herbs and garlic etc., but my dogs like it.

You can see how much traction that received. If someone with enough credibility to attract a wide audience were to do a REAL investigative report on CAGW there would be a chance of revealing the truth of the “science”. And as some have already mentioned they would probably gain instant fame if successful.
