Of course they “must act now” as the window of opportunity is closing as more and more people and institutions become aware of how weak the “Science” is.

IPCC is seen as an integral component. So is UNESCO’s hold over both K-12 and higher ed reforms globally.
Raymond–the really frightening aspect is the IPCC uses science to include the behavioral and social sciences. It has been pursuing a Unified view of science since about 1970.

How can anyone talk about “solutions” when one isn’t even clear whether restricting human CO2 combustion will have even the slightest effect on atmospheric CO2 concentration, let alone result in a measurable reduction in average temperature? How is this remotely related to sound science?

At the end of the day the real issue at stake is democracy. The UN has long used dodgy or highly questionable ‘science’ towards achieval of its political agenda. Although not, I think, understood by americans the EU is very much of the mould of government the UN wants to create globally. Undemocratic and worse, anti-democratic it breaks the link between the public and the unelected who are the true decision makers. Where democracy is claimed by the EU and a member state holds a referendum on an EU treaty if the public vote against it they have to vote again, and again until they agree to it.
Multi-millions of tax payers money in the EU is given to green NGOs to lobby the EU for their green-dreams. Green NGOs are quietly co-opted into the unelected policy making and decision making of the EU. The UN tried, at Copenhagan, to create an unelected embryo world government made up of the green NGOs and others whose law-making would have been binding on national governments had they signed up to the treaty. Democracy was to have been shouldered aside as laws created by green and political activists would have over-ridden national laws.
To my mind it is democracy which is really under threat and it is the IPCC, climate change, and dishonest science which are the symptoms of the underlying struggle for power aimed at bringing an end of democracy as we understand it. There are too many in the EU power-corridors and elsewhere who have stated that the public aren’t capable of making the correct decisions.

You make it sound like the Green NGO’s would not want to be part of the system. This is a misconception.
I am still waiting to find out hoe CO2 generated at ground level by the burning of fossil fuels, makes it’s way to the upper atmosphere to join other molecules of CO2? , Or was I asleep in class and somehow missed that very important first step in the ‘science’ of AGW?

On cue, the UK Met Office ….. mild/cold winters and dry/wet summers are in prospect

Summers are likely to be hotter and drier, but washouts are still on the cards, it adds.
The assessment of future weather extremes finds the role of human influence is “detectable” in summer heatwaves and in intense rainfall.
However, the Met Office says a lot more work must be done to confirm the links.
The study has been released before a major new international climate report next week.

Not that difficult: if sand grains can be transported for thousands of km from the Gobi desert in Mongolia to Arizona, while sand is about 1,000 times more heavy than air, it is no problem for air to transport CO2 which is only slightly heavier a lot of times around the earth. Further, upwards air flows are available at a lot of places and certainly in the tropics by thunderstorms and other ascending and descending air flows.
It takes some time to mix the releases and uptakes of CO2 into the bulk of the atmosphere: a few days to a few weeks for the same altitude and latitude, a few weeks to a few months for different altitudes and latitudes, and 6 months to 2 years for the transfer from the NH to the SH, as only 10% per year of air is exchanged between the hemispheres.
But in general, CO2 levels are within 2% of full scale from sealevel to 20 km height and beyond. Only near ground on land, there are a lot of local sources and sinks which makes that you can measure any level of CO2, depending of the proximity to these sources and sinks and wind/mixing speed.

Precisely. They have been banking on the natural variability to spin the story. First it was global cooling in the early 1970’s but then the climate started warming and then it became global warming. Unfortunately for them it’s now a boring plateau. They can’t make hay with that.
The Global Warming Scare(tm) reminds me of an old movie I saw years ago. I don’t remember the name of the movie, but the plot was a person who knew about solar eclipses and he acted like he caused the sun to disappear among a primitive group of people. When they were fully frightened he acted like he brought the sun back. They all treated him like a god afterwards. If I remember correctly, eventually they figured out he was full of BS and they threw him into a volcano.
“Hope for our Earth” does sound better than “Hope for our Cherished Belief System”. They only pretend to care about the Earth. It makes a good cover for what they’re actually trying to do.

On page 16 of the Summary for Policymakers (translation: Summary for Lawmakers, Law Enforcers, Regulators, Approval Boards, Bureaucracies, Bureaucrats, and Crony Capitalists) the scientocrats wrote the following:
‘Climate- 2 change impacts will exacerbate poverty in low and lower-middle income countries and create new poverty pockets
3 in upper-middle- to high-income countries with increasing inequality.’
Aside from the poor wording I think our dear scientocrats may have a point. The last 6 years have clearly shown the increasing inequality and new poverty pockets emerging as the direct result of “Change!” occurring in at least one high income country; the US.
Whoops, I forgot they were talking about change in regards to climate.
Ferdinand and cnxtim: that CO2 rapidly disperses in various ways including exerting its local abundance as partial pressure of a gas enables life on earth. If it did not mix easily with air and water, we might smother.

On the redistribution reasons for this hoax, it is important that what we call the developing or 3rd World has begun referring to itself as the Majority World in publications coming out of academia. The First World is the Minority World. In a democracy set up, this is setting up the Gimme argument.
I got to thinking about the UNFCCC meeting being held in Yokohama and for some inexplicable reason it brought to mind the meetings I attended while I was gainfully employed. Let’s see, the first trip the company sent me on was to their service center in Kansas City. Thankfully it was KC, Missouri; I understand Kansas City, Kansas is, to be blunt, a bit of a dump. Shortly thereafter I got an all expense paid trip to the company’s main plant in Danville, Illinois. Finally, they sent me to someplace exotic; Chicago’s McCormack Place. Oh, and Atlanta, Georgia for a one-nighter. Actually I got to Atlanta again: but that was to begin a drive to their plant in Montgomery, Alabama. Ok, time to come clean, after 20 years of employment they sent me to New Orleans for a graphics computer conference.
Now, granted Yokohama may not quite be in league with Durban, So. Africa; or Bali, Indonesia; but, excepting the white sand beach and palm trees, it can probably hold it’s own against Cancun, Mexico. It can certainly hold its own against Danville, Illinois. See why the reminiscing is inexplicable? Let us take a look at the new UN tourist…er, meeting…destination.

The main natural circulations are about 60 GtC over the seasons as CO2 in and out of vegetation and 90 GtC of which about 50 GtC in and out over the seasons in the mid-latitude oceans and 40 GtC more or less continuous between upwelling places near the equator and the downwelling near the poles. Because of the large surface of the oceans, there is little difference in CO2 levels measured near the surface, despite the huge fluxes.
Near vegetation, especially under inversion, night levels can go up hundreds of ppmv and day levels go 50 ppmv below background when photosynthesis gets in.
I don’t have data specific for New York, but there are several stations over land + regular flights which monitor CO2 over the US, see:

Have you looked up and noticed how water droplets remain suspended at high altitudes? While the water vapour is light, the water droplets are many thousands times heavier than CO2 gas. Yet somehow clouds manage to remain suspended in the sky.

Exactly right Old England. To me, this is one of the most disturbing aspects of the bogus climate alarmist movement. A movement is indeed potentially very dangerous when it refuses to acknowledge the problems with its belief system(s) and maintains a completely closed mind with little or no respect for the dissenting voice and its right to be heard…especially when that voice is one of verifiable facts, science, logic and reasoning. That is the mindset of totalitarianism, and it is characterized by idiocy, incredible arrogance, overblown egos and a failure to respect the lessons of history. It is their way or the highway in their quest for power, money and control.
If Western civilization is to move forward towards a post-fossil fuels era as the Green Left in government, science, academia and the media desire, they are sadly and tragically mistaken if they think if can happen with wind turbines, solar panels, scaremongering climate alarmism, CO2 taxes and cap-and-trade schemes. In my view, history shows us that it is technological change and advancement (along with new ideas) that ushers in new eras in history. And when I mention technology, I am NOT talking about solar panels and wind turbines. Indeed it is only nuclear power that has demonstrated that it is capable of COMPLETELY displacing all of the electrical energy we currently derive from fossil fuels thanks to its incredible density compared with other energy sources. (Go LFTR!). A good understanding of both the benefits of nuclear power and the exaggerated, overblown fear of low-level radiation would go a long way to help the cause of nuclear power today.
The Green Movement’s failure to understand any of this is indeed disturbing and threatening to all the basic principles that Western civilization holds near and dear.
Oh what a shame.

everyone everywhere must act now or else were all gonna die. 2 degrees centigrade is the maximum rise in global average temperature the earth can safely handle, I see, right, and how are we all to control the earth thermostat? exactly? OK everyone in the world must hold their breath five times a day for one minute. That should reduce hot air and CO2 measurably….

Sorry Pete, not this movie. They turn on Sean Connery when they realize he bleeds like the normal human he is. They then force him to walk across a rope bridge over a deep chasm as they cut the rope. Brilliant film. One of my all-time favourites.
I’ve heard of the film that David L was talking about but can’t place it. The Time Machine perhaps but I suspect not.
