David Cameron has ordered ministers to ditch the ‘green crap’ blamed for driving up energy bills and making business uncompetitive, it is claimed. The Prime Minister, who once pledged to lead the ‘greenest government ever’, has publicly promised to ‘roll back’ green taxes, which add more than £110 a year to average fuel bills.
But a senior Tory source said Mr Cameron’s message in private is far blunter. The source said: ‘He’s telling everyone, “We’ve got to get rid of all this green crap.” He’s absolutely focused on it.’ Tory high command has also privately abandoned Mr Cameron’s pre-election mantra ‘vote blue, go green’. ‘It’s vote blue, get real, now – and woe betide anyone who doesn’t get the memo,’ the source said. No. 10 is tellingly refusing to deny the report in today’s Sun that David Cameron has ordered aides to “get rid of all the green crap”. A Downing Street spokesman merely stated that “we do not recognise this at all” (a classic non-denial denial). I don’t think this was ever in his plan, but it’s got politically unavoidable. Energy companies are raising prices between 4-10%, way above inflation. Those raising by 4% are saying they’ll raise further if the green taxes aren’t removed, and those raising 10% are saying they’ll reverse some of the rise if the green taxes are removed. Once the PM said in parliament that the price rises were mostly due to green taxes introduced by the former Labour government, he’d pretty much painted himself into a corner.
The business in Warsaw of getting the developed world to pay for prior releases of CO2 – i.e. the United States of America, Germany, France, Britain, Canada, Australia – is a logical conclusion because CAGW “threatens” the future world. How would Al Gore respond to this?
An interesting situation, this is. Al Gore gets a Nobel prize for alerting the world to the coming thermeggedon, and sets the stage for the US to give billions of American taxpayers’s money to corrupt and ineffective foreign governments in a global governance scheme. If Gore had become President, would he be supporting such a move?
Wouldn’t that make an interesting question to ask Al. In public. (As if you could.)

I took that to mean he wanted to remove as a break out item the costs of green inclusions in any new programs – rather like “hide the decline”, he would like to hide the expense of green policies.
Camoron is just like most MPs in the UK; you can’t trust anything they say. Six Labour MPs were found to be criminals over their fraudulent expenses claims (and two of them were Members of Her Majesty’s last Government). They’ll say anything to remain in power, or in their cushy jobs leading to a knighthood or even better, getting on the EU gravy train.

My first reaction to this story was “nice legs.”
My second reaction was that Cameron now realizes there are more votes in providing cheaper energy than in being seen as an environmentalist, which a conservative leader is never going to get credit for anyway.

green is good – I have no problem with trying to be as green as possible. Most normal people would agree with this general sentiment, especially if things are put into context correctly. But half the problem is that green is often actually NOT good! The raping of the planet for special materials for wind turbines, solar panels, batteries, loss of food production for biofuels, etc, etc.
As per usual, what the politicos have done is get it all ar$e backwards by not explaining how much being green actually costs (us, the public, I mean). And I don’t mean in ‘simple’ monetary terms.
The REAL cost of many ‘green’ things is actually increased wastage, energy use in production, etc, etc – resulting in a net ‘Green Value’ loss !
I would like to see all the green idea(l)s being properly explained – IN FULL – from start to finish, environmentally audited, if you will – such that people can make INFORMED opinion and judgement on the merits of such things. Without this correct information, all the tree huggers are spouting is idealism and impractical, costly, and fundementally environmentally flawed policy. In this context, it would indeed be worth getting rid of the green ‘crap’ !!
Here in the USA, our current administration’s plans to deal with America’s most significant economic problem — American’s have it better than most everyone else and we consume more than our fair share — continues apace. Give it a few years and we will have hobbled our economy so badly that our per capita income and consumption falls to third-world status.

Chris – I recommend that you read Climate Models Fail by Bob Tisdale. Almost the entire IPCC report is based on the failing climate models. As Tisdale points out in detail, ocean temperatures and their natural cycles are the dominant drivers of climate change…..not humanity. Since the climate models can not predict the changes in ocean temperatures, they fail at the rest of their task. Yet the IPCC continues to use their projections to justify their pronouncements.
If Cameron read Tisdale, the insistence on putting Britain into energy poverty would go away. Let’s hope he does.

I cannot believe Cameron has come right in both senses of the word.
He is going to be in the dog box with:
1. His wife Samantha, who is a bolts-in-the-side-of-the-head-greenie,
2. His father in law, who makes $500,000/year in subsidies on his wind farm, and
3. Ed Davey, the UK’s environment minister, who apart from his many other shortcomings, is the definition of the word ‘ecoloon’.
Bottom line: I don’t believe this is real, but rather it is just another of Cameron’s empty promises, like having a vote on ratifying the Lisbon Treaty for the European Union.
Being “green” has ALWAYS been about the money – either eco taxes, “research” grants, or public funding of green tech boondoggles. This is why most greens are hypocrites.
The best way to deal with the “greens” of the world is to point out their selfishness and hypocrisy and make them as UNPOPULAR in the public eye as possible. This is already happening, I believe…

I did not know about this organization. They were created in 1989 or so and were trying to reduce CO2 before any evidence was available to confirm its postulated catastrophic heating ability. Now that there is no evidence whatsoever.. maybe a 0.5 C rise for a doubling.. what do they do for an encore?
In general, I agree with them on the merits of reducing energy consumption through conservation measures, specifially oil. We have basically hit the wall on oil production(73 mm bbls/day), despite the price rising from $25 to $100. Fracking might hold off the decline for a while, but only Iraq and maybe Iran can really increase outputs.
CO2 was a convenient bandwagon for all sorts of agendas.. some good, some bad.
Now what do we do with all of these worthless windmills?

Interpretation 3: “Warsaw’s a bust. Germany, Canada, Australia & Japan have back-tracked. GW is ‘static’. SO, all we can do is drop all references to green statutory price hikes for now and blame suppliers. After the 2015 election you lot then oppose everything the new minority Labour Gov proposes as I’ll be off! Good luck sucking up to UKIP”.

I think that this is a significant comment. We need someone high up to say what the rest of us have been thinking and saying for a long time. I think that this is a vote winner,please let it be so.
No politician can or will ever roll back Green taxes. AFAIK there has never been any occasion where a tax, once introduced, has ever been ‘recalled’ – best case would be a shifting of Green taxes into the General taxation stream so the funds are guaranteed to the Government AND they can be further increased but with less exposure to public criticism.

The UK would certainly benefit from a Green Enema – to get rid of the crap. But Cameron is not the man to do it. Neither has he the authority – even as, surprisingly, the PM – to do so. His Quisling fellow-travellers in the coalition will make sure of that. They are the chosen ones; the ones who don’t need to count the cost: we are the ones who shall pay.

Some of you have referred to UKIP. You’re absolutely right. Current polls show they’re at 17% of British voters, up more than 4 per cent in less than a month. The party’s showing in the municipal elections was extremely strong, taking a load of seats away from Tories even in traditional strongholds. At 17%, UKIP thus constitutes an existential threat to the Conservatives.
Think it can’t happen? In less than five years, the Progressive Conservatives in Canada in two elections went from more than 200 seats in 1987 to two in 1992. The party itself finally disapeared less than 10 years later when it was taken over by Reform to become the Conservative Party of Canada, a different animal entirely.
Of course Cameron is worried. His entire base is melting away underneath him, so it’s no surprise that stuff like this gets leaked. It’s standard procedure in politics. The only question is are the voters silly enough to believe him, again, while idiots like Ed Davey are still holding down the key government posts.
As for the voters, the issue becomes very simple. Why vote for faux Conservatives when you can vote for the real thing? Somewhere, Nigel Farage is laughing.

I suspect this is testing the waters. Throw it out there and see what the reaction is. If it is positive then something real might happen. If it is negative then he never said it.
Cameron is a proven liar so there is unlikely to be any truth in this.
Tragically, the leader of the opposition, Milliband, is at least as bad. He is, as I will never tire of reminding people, the architect of the most expensive piece of legislation ever to pass into law in the UK – the Climate Change Act, which all but five MPs supported.

This is just another blatant attempt to steal UKIP’s clothes. Unless British people see action on the scale of what Tony Abbott has done in Australia, then it is all empty rhetoric. UKIP need to hammer home this point at every opportunity. Why wait until the elections?

Let’s not fall out about UK politics on a US science website!! I think we’ve established that they’re both career politicians (along with “I agree with” Nick of course) so I can easily accept their equal culpability.
It’s a step in the right direction. I would have been a life-long Conservative voter, but no longer. I’m a UKIP man now, and proud of it.
But I would like to return to the fold. However, I will never vote for a party whose policies are designed to push up the cost of energy. I regard it as not only mind-numbingly wrong, but immoral as well.
Before I will even consider voting Conservative they will have to stop subsiding wind farms and scrap the Climate Change Bill.

I don’t believe for one minute that David Cameron said that. David Cameron is a conservative in name only, he has demonstrated time and time again that he loves the green agenda. He walks the walk of the greenie, he’s hopeless.
If, and that is a BIG “IF”, Cameron said this (Don’t believe it for a minute), then view it as some sort of diversionary policy. His trip to Sri Lanka etc, he’s not about to back down from this boondoggle, given family “interests” in “green energy”. When is the next UK election?
If there’s a very cold winter in the UK this year, followed by a drop in the GASTA, and a continuing decline in Tory polling numbers and an increase in UKIP’s numbers, perhaps the Tories will depose Cameron.

It appears David Cameron is an intelligent consensus patriot who understands deficit spending eventually leads to currency collapse, very high unemployment, and riots, as has been demonstrated by every country that has tried deficit financing to postpone the politically more difficult balanced budget.
The UK is spending more than it takes in tax revenue and has reached the limit of deficit spending. The UK has the highest total debit (private and government) as a percent of the GDP (400%) of any of the major developed countries. The UK government debit is 89% of the GDP (70% is the maximum limit based on past experience if interest rates rise). The UK is currently running a yearly deficit of 6.2% of GDP as compared to the highest recommended 3%. (The US yearly deficit is 9.3% before the ‘Affordable Care Act’ deficits kick in, Ha Ha Ha)
Higher energy prices are a type of taxation on the public and on industry which makes local industry less competitive and leaves less money for the government to tax. There are only so many pieces in the pie.

Spending money are green scams that will tripled the cost of electricity – Germany is the post child example where the cost of electricity is three times that of the US – and will result in almost no significant reduction in world CO2 emission if the CO2 content of imported goods is included is madness and economically no longer viable.

One if the big nails in the Green bandwagon, was recycling. This was forced down householders throats, with some houses getting six bins for recycling – and massive fines if you rebelled. Then it turned out that there was no industrial facilities for much of this recycling, and so the majority of it was going for landfill anyway.
This got many a blood-pressure bursting and the idiocy of it all.
