Why we don't take CNN or Bill Nye seriously anymore: asteroid> meteor> global warming

Does anybody realize how stupid society is becoming, or at least how stupid the “news” is? Society is being dumbed down, and the number of news reports that talk about “climate change” every time we have “weather” is a direct proxy to the reduction of national average IQ.

Please stick to your day job Bill and leave us alone.

When asked the question he says “no no” over her, it’s not clear. But he’s definitely not suggesting what this post implies.

Because Bill is “The Science Guy”, everybody else is excused from doing their own thinking. Excused; as in you’re excused from class.

This exchange pretty much confirms that Bill Nye’s role as contributor to CNN is to support whatever globalist agenda CNN is peddling (as per Ted Turner) as opposed to providing objective independent scientific insight. The normal reaction would have been to immediately dismiss what Feyerick implied as nonsense, but Nye knows he is a ‘tool’ of CNN, so disagreeing with the presenter was not something that would come naturally to him.
Marc Morano eviscerated Nye on Piers Morgan back in Dec-2012, and that was despite Morano quite clearly being one against two in that debate.
The integrity of CNN is the main issue that I am concerned with, as opposed to Bill Nye, as he is just one contributor. There has been a recent trend of becoming increasingly brazen in their advocacy, as opposed to at least trying to give the impression that they are impartial presenters and “moderators” of debates.

The only mistake Bill Nye makes in the video is he says meteor when he means asteroid….the woman is over talking non-stop rubbish about something, of which she has no knowledge or understanding.

That goofball Nye is one of the biggest proponents of agw. More troublesome is that the loudest agitators in congress in support for the theory are all extreme leftists, like MA congressman Ed Markey.
What does this extreme leftism have to do the science? I’ll tell you: nothing. It is “the right thing to do,” they think, to push agw regardless of any scientific validity. Furthermore, they are not going to dig deep (like, for example, read skeptic blogs) into anything that may cause them to question the science.
Our job is two-fold. In the short term, educate the public as best we can on the MSM menace on this issue. Also, start thinking about changing the way students are educated in college. Get down to the roots, or start some kind of penetrating conversations that get the young elites to start thinking differently about agw, and / or other issues.

Bill Nye fancies himself as someone who can explain science. So does putting the near collision of this asteroid 2012 DA14 and earth in terms of “time”, “fifteen minutes!”, help to understand how close it came? Not really since it’s ambiguous. Fifteen minutes for which object? The Earth? The asteroid 2012 DA14? Both? Seven and half minutes for both? So instead of making it easier to understand Bill Nye just confuses the issue.
As for whether or not this asteroid has anything to do with Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming, that’s so stupid it burns. The only way this asteroid could possibly affect the climate of Earth is if is smacked into us, and then only briefly would it have an impact on the climate.

Saw the first clip over the weekend – dumb questions coupled with transmission lags do not lead to informative conversations. In a sense I felt sorry for Bill Nye – but only a little bit.
Then I watched the 2nd clip. Frankly, the man is a menace. He confuses people. A depression will always produce nor-easters and sou-westers (plus sou-easters and nor-westers) relative to where the observer and the eye of the depression are. How many NBC viewers understand cyclones and anti-cyclones?
Why scare the beejazus out of people by discussing catastrophic impacts, when he knows (and states) that the asteroid is going to miss? Why the reference to geostationary satellites, thus soliciting the ‘Oh!’ response from the desk-dork whose income depends upon 24/7 coverage?
“Is this caused by global warming”? “No, the asteroid exists far beyond Earth’s atmosphere”.
“Should we be worried”? “No”.
“Nothing to see here – move on”.
I am far from happy with the UK Met Office and the BBC, but I am really glad I am not bombarded with expert opinions suitable for sub-sub average IQ viewers. We’re lucky, we just get the sub-average IQ stuff.

He appears to blame the Coriolis effect on global warming. I doubt that is what he meant, but his whole fame is as a communicator of science, and to make such imprecise or even dubious statements as he did is not good communication at all. That is even without considering whether he is right about CAGW – or the utter dishonesty of the experiment he was involved in to demonstrate the greenhouse effect of CO2, which did nothing of the sort.

Global warming will also reverse the quantum spin of electrons. Hell, it will turn “up” quarks to “down.” Not to mention “top” to “bottom.” Right? Uh…

Richard Carlson, he very much does deny it when says “no, no” immediately after she says it. Nye is guilty of many things and over simplifying to the point of being wrong on many occasions. But he did not at any point agree with the suggestion that global warming caused an asteroid.

This is sorta-kinda on topic and off – more about the US edjumacation system then Nye’s attempts (if you can call them that) at science.
A couple of days ago the Education Director for New York State was testifying before a congressional committee. In his remarks he used the word “Incentivised”. Used in a sentence it would be “We need teachers to be incentivised.”
With leaders like this, is it any wonder our schools are producing unthinking graduates? I thought I was taught in an authoritarian climate, yet at the proper time (high school I think) a gifted teacher taught the class to question statements by allowing his pronouncements to be questioned. Most were true, but some were balderdash (we couldn’t use the other BS word in class).

Anti-intellectualism is not really a good proxy for the source of stupidity – it is a result, obviously. It isn’t even about interest in science, as many people are seemingly interested in science but they’re too stupid to detect the fraud of climate change alarm; so again, there must be another actual cause. Part of that cause is the liberal mentality, or at least, the liberal mentality is highly associated with the type of stupidity that leads to belief in climate alarm, or which might have a difficult time distinguishing causes from effects. Greg makes the point about stupidity, and I agree people can’t be blamed for being tricked, up to a point.
They CAN be blamed for choosing to continue to believe in a morally degenerate and pseudoscientific fraud once they’ve been exposed to the truth countless times. They CAN be blamed for supporting policies and holding a philosophy of human life and society which is anti-human and which harms people, and which is debasing in its essence towards human existence. Nye may have been disagreeing with the airhead but I played the video five times and could not detect that. I did not hear the “no,no”. Later she went on to referr to a “meteor” again. I don’t see apparent disagreement. If she said monkeys flew out of her asteroid, Nye would probably agree. It’s all science.

The real answer to Feyerick’s direct question is ” No. There is no relationship between global warming and a meteor approaching earth.” Instead he leaps to a strange linguistics conflation between meteor and meterology after declaring that global warming is “science” on the same footing as Newtonian mechanics. He is so consumed by hype that he can’t allow the hype-mitigating discourse of fact and reason to diminish his fear mongering. He later says to not to be nervous about a 17,000 mile miss, while he advises us to be very nervous of a meteor not yet in evidence. Typical.
That is the most disquieting aspect of this latest episode of Nye’s abuse-of-science-for-hype. It is like his irrational call to action for AGW. He wants us to be afraid of things that don’t exist. He says it at time stamp 1:12. “Get nervous, but not about his one.”

I listened to it several times again, also, and did not hear/make out a “no,no.” He said something just as she was saying “meteoric event.” But I couldn’t make out what he said as he said it while she was still talking. Perhaps he was saying no to it being a meteor, because at that point he starts talking about the origins of the words meteor and meterololgy.

The truth of this is that Feyerick, the CNN Bimbo in residence and chief Twit asked such a stupid question that Nye had to mumble a nonsequiter just to get out of an embarrassing moment. Westerhaven should have been looking more carefully at what was actually happening instead of misleading all of us about what Nye meant. We must realize that the news readers are morons, just on screen ‘talent’. Most of them couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

Years ago Bill Nye Had His own show, or segment to someone else’s show. I can’t recall. His sidekick at the time was Soledad O’brien. Somewhere now she’s a news anchor. She is a Major AGW mouthpiece.

Interesting that he mentions the Tunguska, Siberia event in 1908. That is when the 20th century warming started – as well as the reversal of the direction of change that the north magnetic pole was traveling as it is now heading to Tunguska. Vladimir Shaidurov of the Russian Academy of Sciences proposed that this event started the global warming.
