Funny, as usual, but maybe Josh could do a cartoon about cockroaches. The cockroaches are all working on their climate models and warming projections, but then, someone turns on the ceiling light….

Going around in circles = spin cycle.
“IPCC AR5 leak #2” cries out for a short-and-snappy synonym. I suggest a thread inviting nominations.
Delingpole has suggested “Donnagate.” WUWT has suggested “Santa leak.” Both are fairly obscure, especially the second, because it didn’t become known until well after Xmas.
I suggest “Curtaingate“–because the curtain has been pulled back on the innards of the IPCC process. This term could be applied to both leaks, since they have occurred so closely together. The suffixes #1 & #2 could be used as needed for specificity.
This term also comes with the connotation (from the Wizard of Oz) that what’s behind the curtain is pretty unimpressive–e.g., a naughty naked emperor.
It also has a faint connotation of “curtains”–i.e., finis.

Cheered me up, along with all the UK MO embarrassments 🙂
Love the cockroach analogy. Both issues remind me of an environment-related role-playing / conflict analysis exercise I was involved in many years ago. Classic weazel-words response from the MO, expecting the same from IPCC.

PS to my suggestion of “Curtaingate”: Or maybe TotoGate—it’s “cuter” and also more neutral, and hence more likely to be adopted by both sides, the way “climategate” has been.

PPS: Here’s a cartoon idea for Josh:
Donna is Dorothy, gazing with a shocked expression at a naughty naked emperor who Toto’s curtain-pulling has revealed.
The emperor could be Patchy in a Satan Suit grinning wickedly as he looks at a teleprompter that reads, “Buy my indulgences or things will get warmer for you, ha-ha-ha.”
Or it could delicately suggest a circle-jerk of some sort (lower half concealed, but visible to Dorothy).
Or . . .

Heh Heh, as pointed out on the other thread ….. they DO look like the cybermen from Dr. Who.

PPPS: The “circle” I suggested above is too extreme–better would be a circle of back-scratching pal reviewers, funders, alarmist NGOs, academic grant-receivers, etc.

With apologies to Billy Preston:
Sung to the tune of Will It Go Round In Circles
We’ve got a graph, it inflates reality
We’rea gonna show it to our friends
We’ve got a graph, it inflates reality
We’rea gonna show it to our friends
We all talk round in circles
Make our grants soar high like a bird up in the sky
We all talk round in circles
Make our grants soar high like a bird up in the sky
We’ve got a story, ain’t got no morals
Let us bad guys win every once in a while
We’ve got a story, ain’t got no morals
Let us bad guys win every once in a while

We’ve got a graph, it ain’t got no sense, no
We’re gonna turn Tijlander upside down

“DraftyGate”? “TransparentGate”?
(Nothing quite “clicks” yet. We need more input.)

Flashgate +
The Met Office has admitted that global warming has stalled.
Officials say that by 2017, temperatures will not have risen significantly for nearly 20 years.
They concede that previous forecasts were inaccurate – and have come under fire for attempting to ‘bury bad news’ by publishing the revised data on Christmas Eve.

I’m not too sure about the cockroach idea. Cockroaches have survived many cataclysms in their time on earth, and I have more than a suspicion that the Warm Side will come up with more peer-reviewed, “evidence”, unfortunately submitted too late to go through the full procedure, to give fuel to their fantasy. I wouldn’t suggest for a moment that some papers have been deliberately held back to avoid debunking by cloud review after a leak. That would be a ridiculous conspiracy theory and totally out of keeping with known Warmist good scientific practice.
It ain’t over till it’s over.

“Flashgate” is good (referring to the flash drives)–It’s short and memorable. But it doesn’t subsume the earlier leak of the SOD, which would be desirable.
Ipsygate?! This has an overtone of “oopsy” and an allusion to IPCC. It’s neutral and descriptive, like “climategate,” so it can be accepted by both sides and by the press. It can easily append the cabooses -1 & -2, like Climategate. I think this is the best so far, even though it’s not very “clever.”

Haha nice one. This is literaly the first thing I saw today – it made my day.
As for the “gate”, it’s not really a gate yet. The “gate” comes in when they release the “adjusted” report and all the concessions are gone, or replaced with more inane doom-mongering ramblings from the warmist “A-Team”.

AR5-DumpGate #2 (Alex Rawls was #1)

January 9, 2013 4:43 am

{a slight revision to my post on January 9, 2013 at 3:59 }
AR5-DumpGate #2
Alex Rawls’ AR5 dump was #1
So this AR5 dump given to Donna L is #2.
It is likely there will be more AR5 dumps . . . so my naming convention is practical . . . just add a number as each new dump occurs.

rogerknights: What Anthony Watts actually suggested was “Secret Santa Leak”. Perhaps that is not sufficiently cosmopolitan, but in the US a “Secret Santa” is a person who bestows a Christmas present anonymously.

Someone shoud start a dictionary of reality corrected global warming terms….Ok I will start:
Climate Change Dictionary
PEER REVIEW: The act of banding together a group of like-minded academics with a funding conflict of interest, for the purpose of squeezing out any research voices that threaten the multi-million dollar government grant gravy train.
SETTLED SCIENCE: Betrayal of the scientific method for politics or money or both.
DENIER: Anyone who suspects the truth.
CLIMATE CHANGE: What has been happening for billions of years, but should now be flogged to produce ‘panic for profit.’
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE: Leftist Nutcase Prize, unrelated to “Peace” in any meaningful way.
DATA, EVIDENCE: Unnecessary details. If anyone asks for this, see “DENIER,” above.
CLIMATE SCIENTIST: A person skilled in spouting obscure, scientific-sounding jargon that has the effect of deflecting requests for “DATA” by “DENIERS.” Also skilled at affecting an aura of “Smartest Person in the Room” to buffalo gullible legislators and journalists.
JUNK SCIENCE: The use of invalid scientific evidence resulting in findings of causation which simply cannot be justified or understood from the standpoint of the current state of credible scientific or medical knowledge.

‘Light of Day’ gate

It would be good if “leak” could be part of the name, because it’s so descriptive. And the suffix “gate” has come to mean what the French call an “affair.” I think it’s unavoidable, although it’s threadbare. So how about Leakygate? It allows for appending -1 and -2 to distinguish the two leaks.
(Left on the cutting room floor: Lucky leaky; Fifth time leaky.)

So far I like “FlashGate”. They were flashdrives and it carries the connotation of something being exposed ….

How about, in keeping with Global Warming, Secret Santa and attempted deception, “SnowGate”?

Coupled with “SnowGate” the message would be “Don’t eat the yellow snow!”

rogerknights
January 9, 2013 3:09 pm

Ipsyleak? That comes trippingly off the tongue. The “Ipsy” alludes to both the IPCC and the “oopsy” feeling the leaks must have induced in it.
@DesertYote: So far enough startling material has come out from Leakygate-1 that it is almost a scandal, which would qualify it as a ‘gate”; and, if Donna’s book is anything to go by, a look at the innards of the IPCC’s review process, such as Leakygate-2 promises, will be scandalous.
