I don’t remember what led me to this site but I’m sure it was either SEPP or Junkscience.
The last time I spent time commenting anywhere was on the old AOL’s “Pet Care Forums” under the topic of “Animal Rights/Animal Welfare”. That was back in …., well, I don’t remember but most people didn’t have a cable modem.

Wow, …that’s amazing and not totally surprising. Where else is there to go for clear climate information when the TEAM has the MSM media swallowing everything they can produce with nary a critical eye. By the way, do those statistics reveal for you the number of individual visitors who visit your site? I mean individuals such as myself. Can you tell that?

I think WordPress should display their geographical distribution map as a per capita statistic – this would better represent the level of interest. There are many folks I know in Australia that visit WUWT regularly. I often recommend it to those who express interest in the topic and am sure it has expanded many minds.
WUWT-TV was one of the highlights of the year for me and I hope that it can happen again. I salute your energy and commitment Anthony and friends!

Thank you very, very much for this blog and everything you’ve done. I know the following statement is an overused expression, but what the heck: words, alone, cannot express. And, indeed, they can’t. The United States was/is the ultimate creation and experiment of ‘The Age of Enlightenment.’ The Founders were pamphleteers and they spread that philosophy through the press. I believe your blog is a ‘new media’ example of that legacy. One of the founders (I believe it was Franklin) stated that what they had given, in the form of the US Constitution was a republic – “if you can keep it.” Maybe, with blogs like this and others, we can. Happy New Year. Best wishes for many more.

Impressive, wonder if any of the FB links I made are part of the referral stats! In general, I think my “friends” ignore them, when they don’t heap abuse on me (e.g. “convoluted nonsense” – oh wait, sorry, that particular one was in response to a JoNova link about the 79 bn for establishment, a few mn for skeptics)
I’ve been coming here on my own for some 4 years, curious now where I was first referred from. Along with top referring sites, I’d be interested in how many of us came directly in 2012, as I did.
I don’t understand the Where did they Come From, I don’t find any info there yet from comments I get the impression people see something. I’d be interested how many others from Switzerland (one anyway, since his commenting name is Kurt in Switzerland!).

WUWT.com is a game changer. This is not only because of its vast readership, but also because of the general intelligence of the posts, sensible light touch of the moderators and knowledgeable comments of your readership.
I am optimistic that the leaking of the draft copy of AR5, which has allowed you people to get a preview of the erroneous science behind the alarmist claims the IPCC are set on promoting, will become a watershed. Your struggle is a simple one; to get honesty into the public debate about global warming. You will prevail.

WUWT – one of my first visits every day and, if there is time, I return, sometimes more than once. Exceptional. I cannot express the depth of my gratitude for the bounty of this blog. Fine science. Crafty and witty posts. Wonderful commenters — even those I consider Grinches (excluding trolls) and I will wait for their hearts to grow, too. Most impressive is the integrity, Anthony. Thank you for stellar leadership in that sphere.
One request I have made a number of times (along with swift justice for those who change historical data and alter the raw stuff) is for new institutions. Forget the old “socialist” media; bloggers like Anthony are changing the terms of all discussion and debate — openness, honesty (to the best of one’s ability), commitment to the scientific method, and intelligent reporting. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I will send my continued “subscription” early in the New Year. (Should I call it a “renewal”?) A Happy and Healthy New Year to you and your family, Anthony, and to your faithful associates on WattsUpWithThat.

Perhaps you have not considered their limited access to computers? Perhaps you would like to elaborate on what “global climate disruption” is and what we could do about it.. oh wait, even after all of the endless shouting, fear mongering, name calling, failure to look at data that doesn’t support your argument, green energy policies, and government regulation, CO2 continues to rise, in fact, rising even faster than before. Perhaps you need to come to terms with reality and acknowledge that humans are relatively powerless in the greater grandeur of the climate system and there is nothing we can do about it.

Congratulations Anthony and team. Keep up the good work of keeping climate science honest. It’s not easy, I’m sure. Eventually, nature will show us how climate works. Right now we have, at best, a bunch of guesses, but hardly any “theory” that gives us the proof of the pudding — the ability to clearly explain past circumstances and the ability to predict future ones. Sadly, climate scientists are, for the most part, wasting all too much time and energy on the CO2 issue while ignoring many other tantalizing ideas. I hope I live to see the current madness completely extinguished. And, given the hints from the many skeptics about the next ~20 years, there’s a chance….

There is just so much here; the leading posts, guest posts, contributions by commenters, informative links, etc. Serious discussion, humor, and of course Willis’ adventures.
I would have to agree with Theo Goodwin in his comment above: “… You are a true American Phenomenon. You are a true American original …”
“Commentary on puzzling things about life, nature, science, nature, climate change, technology, and recent news by Anthony Watts.” That about says it all! At 135 million views to date sums it up.

Very soon viewer numbers on WUWT will exceed those of the Misleading Slimy Media , or does MSM mean main stream media?.
Funny how truth, a willingness to consider alternatives and provide access to source information, is so much more successful than telling people what they shall think.
From this oasis of honest skepticism, I foresee the future of science, the journals are crumbling, print media has lost its way and authoritative assertions of certainty only produce snorts of derision.
Science through the scientific method lives on, at WUWT.
Thanks for saving my sanity, I thought in 2008-2009 that madness was sweeping the globe, thanks to WUWT and friends I found out its only sweeping government agencies and the compliant media.
Neither of those groups being necessary for a civic society I now have hope for our future.
Happy New Year. Buy popcorn, I believe the collapse is accelerating.

Congratulations WUWT on an excellent year!
If I may add my own perspective, as a sceptical scientist who only wants to see the scientific proof one way or another, I am astonished that again a whole year has passed, a vast amount of money has been spent on the science, and yet the scientific argument for anthropologically induced global warming gets weaker and weaker – rather than stronger and stronger – every year.
What astonishes me even more though is that, as the science collapses, the politics becomes more and more strident! You ( we?) may be winning the debate but we seem further than ever from winning the war. Clearly sound data and sound science does not trump ideology.
Maybe this whole thing is no longer about science and is more about psychology of crowds and cults and there is a need for a new cast of bloggers to provide some insights into this. Perhaps Lord Monckton is right to be considering “rat holes” to try and break through to the other side?

December 30, 2012 10:10 pm

Anthony: I cannot give enough thanks to thank you and the brilliant bloggers on this site for helping me keep my sanity about truth in science. I am honored and privileged to be able to get responses from the brilliant minds who gravitate here. I need to learn to be kinder and more patient with my responses to people who feel strongly that we must save the planet – because they feel that way due to misinformation from the MSM. With more information and understanding, I feel better armed to help open others’ minds to what’s real and true.
Congratulations!

Congratulations WUWT on an excellent year!

Indeed, but the best of WUWT is not the strident politics presented, but the demonstration of the demos in the democracy. Sure, democracy is not always fair to the heros (Themistocles raising a Greek fleet in the Persian wars, then getting exiled to Persia later), but people are naturally (politically) inert. While Themistocles being an activist of the time worked that time, later he became a nuisance (especially to the Spartans…). Anyhow, there is no need to activate our science, just use the tool that we were given, facts. The Demos Inertia does the rest of the work 😉
Watch the rats running the anchor line, it has already begun…
It would be fun to see how many WUWTers are like Willis E., “…fiscally conservative and socially liberal”.

First started reading here off and on in 2007. Now I feel deprived if I can’t manage at least a scan of headlines once a day. It’s been implied before by those far more articulate, but there really is no place quite like this place anyplace else. Thanks thanks thanks.

Congratulations. I found WUWT in 2012 via the swivel-eyed ‘Wotts Up With That’ website! Keep up the good work and the measured tone – it’s a lot easier to recommend a site that makes its arguments without degenerating into the abuse and name calling that passes for debate in most of the blogosphere.
Happy New Year.

Just adding my thanks and good wishes to you and the team Anthony from the UK – and perhaps a tiny plug for your opposite number this side of the Herring Pond – Andrew Montford on his Bishop Hill blog – which I ALSO visit daily..!
I share with you my favourite quasi-Latin saying: ‘Nil Illegitemi Carborundum’ (never let the bastards grind you down…)

Anthony: Congratulations for another spectacular year. WUWT is the best source for unbiased information on CAGW. (BTW, am I the only one who knows that we are in an interglacial period during which the earth warms…until it doesn’t?) Hopefully, the wheels are coming off the IPCC cart for once and for all.
And…did you mean 4.75 weekends instead of 5 years? Or did I read the numbers wrong?

I had seen references to this site in Christopher Booker’s articles in the Telegraph (UK) and with Copenhagen looming I thought “I’ll see what all the fuss is about”. The morning (in Europe) I first logged in to WUWT I was greeted by strange reports of emails from UEA and all the discussions about had they been stolen or hacked etc. were they genuine etc. What a start!
Virtually every day since I’ve looked in at least once and all I can say is to repeat most of the comments up-thread. Thanks.
Very many thanks to Anthony, mods and commentators for keeping this wonderful blog going and have a wonderful 2013.
(Mod’s reply to Kaboom at 3.19 We know it’s not hard work in the ditch digging sense, but it’s the tedium you mention that makes it hard work and I’m sure I’m not the only one who is grateful for all your efforts.)

*****************************************************************************************************
Have you ever heard about cornered rats being the most dangerous. Just a bit more effort with the shovels and maybe a “rat hole” or two and this could be winnable.
All the best from south-west France for 2013 to all your readers.

Congratulations many thanks to Anthony and all the regular posters, commenters and moderators at WUWT (Gail Combs: take a bow). Josh deserves special mention also. You have all made WUWT a truly addictive experience.
Keep up the fight for real science, respectful debate and rational policy, with a liberal seasoning of good humor.
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year. And Happy Hogmanay! May your cupboards never be empty of good single malt.

Thank you to Anthony and to the moderators. I especially appreciate the way that posters
with stridently opposed views are allowed to go at it as long as they obey site policy.
Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees are in physics, but the specialized
knowledge that a number of posters here contribute has added to my education.
I appreciate the hard-headed, skeptical hard science greatly. I even have a sneaking
fondness for the decidedly “fringe science” that a few of the posters here espouse.
Science advances by being willing to consider all potential
hypotheses; almost all of what is now “mainstream science” was once considered
someone’s addled hypothesis.

Anthony – I found your blog in 2007 (I think) as a result of a headline on Drudge concerning global temperatures—all four metrics were FALLING! What I found in reading further was SANITY, reason, common sense, and good science! DAMN – I was hooked!
Seriously, the posts and science are not only informative and entertaining, but from them and comments from those who reply, I have learned more about what true science is than I ever learned in graduate school and throughout the time I was active in science. Beyond that, I have become armed with solid facts and knowledge to set anyone claiming CAGW (etc) is real back on their heels, and getting them to think (!) perhaps for the first time.
So, as I know many others have done, thank you, thank you, thank you to you and the moderators for the incredible work you do.
At such time that the ideology of CAGW falls, it will be in large measure due directly to the information provided by this blog.

Been a while since I last posted, but still been sucked-in to this great site every day for at least two years. The topics, contributors and the civil and helpful replies/comments from everyone sitting on the same side of our ‘Anti AGW’ fence are uplifting – especially those fellow supporters from over here in the UK. Well done Anthony and a happy 2013.
Incidentally I’ve beaten the CO2 alarmism. My 14-year old 2.5 Litre ‘CO2 Belching’ V6 Estate now actually costs less in annual UK road tax than my wife’s 1.6 Litre Mini Cooper S. Now that’s what I call victory!!!!

Congratulations Anthony and all your moderators! I visit the site at least once a day and like to put my views forward when I feel that I can make informed comments. The rest of the time I believe in the prayer “May the good Lord, make me keep my mouth when I do not know what I am talking about. Amen.”
It is a pity this sentiment seems to be inapplicable to so called “scientists” who try to hold humanity to ransom by scaring the c**p out of the more gullible.
I hope 2013 is a happy, healthy and prosperous year to you all!

What a fabulous site. The more you read here the more you learn, not just about science but about people. I have been here every day for over four years and have always found it fascinating , fresh and relevant.
Thanks Anthony , because your character and humanity shine through. Have a most excellent 2013.
All the very best to all of you too.
Warm Regards,
Keith

I am someone who lurks here trying to learn something new everyday. I come from a poly sci / debate background and mindset and engage in political “discussions” of all sorts on all kinds of sites. When CAGW/cap and trade were coming down the pike years ago, I was on a political website following a particularly nasty CAGW arguement between two people who both were spouting what sounded like real sources for their positions (being an ex-debater, you pay close attention to sources). One of the participants finally threw up his virtual hands at the others pigheadedness (which I have now come to regard as zealotry) and said, “try taking that evidence over to the crowd at WUWT and see what happens to you!” I was intrigued by that, and have been reading here almost everyday since. While the science and math minutiae may be a little over my head at times, the scientific processes that use them are not. Thank you for that.
Here’s hoping for a Happy New Year for all of us

I was steered to this site……ooh, about 4 or 5 years ago by Christoper Booker and can never thank him enough. Nor can I thank Anthony, the mods, the posters (esp. those named earlier) enough for all their work. I am an old man (73 years last week) and not a scientist but I cannot start my day without catching up on the over night posts and comments on this site.
Thank you .. all of you. I wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous 2013, with many more to come.

Anthony, Mods, Posters and Commenters, very many thanks from a science layman, taxpayer of the UK who is totally fed up with the PC lies and bunkum one gets from the MSM (particularly the BBC) and climate “scientists”. May you go from strength to strength as I feel there are few fighting for our side – but I’m convinced we are gradually moving into a leading position. Mustn’t take the foot of the gas though.
Thanks again.

WUWT.com is a game changer. This is not only because of its vast readership, but also because of the general intelligence of the posts, sensible light touch of the moderators and knowledgeable comments of your readership.
You nailed it Julian – and many others already above. It is the whole WUWT community hosted at Anthony’s blog that makes it a game changer.
A Happy New Year to all!

Anthony & team,
You have created an environment at WUWT that honors what Richard Feynman honored,

It’s a kind of scientific integrity, a principle of scientific thought that corresponds to a kind of
utter honesty–a kind of leaning over backwards.
[ . . . ] bending over backwards to show how you’re maybe wrong, that you ought to have when acting as a scientist.

John
PS – Gail Combs . . . . what a pleasant and astute chatter box you are : ) . . . . thank you.

Happy New Year to all.
Just a few disjointed thoughts to (hopefully) put a grin on your faces….
Wind farms – espcially offshore ones – not a cat-in-hell’s chance of them lasting the projected 25 years (on promise of which presumably gullible investors have sunk money). The Danish offshore ‘fleet’ now shown to have a actual life of 7-12 years.
‘The wind is always blowing somewhere in the British Isles.’ Actual verbatin quote from an official at our dearly beloved Department of Energyand Climate Change.
The idea of ‘storing’ electricity from wind farms..? All the batteries on earth would supply the world’s electricity for…. ten mnutes..
CO2 concentration – ‘double’ what it is now would lead to ‘disaster’..? In your living room its probably ten times the global <400ppm – but presumably you're all still alve (in a nuclear sub it can be up to 10000ppm – and presumably the ratings aren't all flaked out on the floor…) – and anyway tomato growers inject it ino their polytunnels (800-1000ppm) to INCREASE YIELDS…
Maybe 2013 will, if not be 'the begining of the end', it might at least be the end of the beginning'…

Is the comparison to the 8m Hobbit audience apt?
36,000,000 amounts to about 1 view per day for 100,000 people, right? Or is it 36,000,000 unique views (i.e. new IP/browser/fingerprint combo per view?)

Thank you to you all at WUWT. I came here by reading Christopher Booker in the Sunday Telegraph and now look every day if I can. I have looked at some of the team sites but have problems with the assumption that I am thick and they are right and that is all I need to know and the default option of name calling if you question the script as has been set.
All the best for 2013 and may God bless you and your efforts
