Guess what? WUWT readers make up the majority of viewers of this farce video. Mostly curiosity I suppose. Watch the video, then see the numbers below.
Yesterday, Tom Nelson asked this question, and it got me to digging.
It’s now been two weeks: Does anybody know what happened to Al Gore’s “Reality Drop” campaign?
Looking for an innovative way to dispel myths and spread science about climate change, Gore, Fox and their colleagues at The Climate Reality Project turned to agency Arnold Worldwide. Pete Favat, Arnold Worldwide’s chief creative officer, had attracted Gore’s attention because of his cause-related work for the Truth Campaign, the hugely successful national anti-tobacco program.

The product, “Reality Drop,” relies on sophisticated algorithms to highlight “hot” climate change stories and provide simple rebuttals to the most common climate change myths.

Users win points for sharing facts and eventually climb up the ranks of the game and earn Foursquare-like badges such as “Carbon Crusher,” “Shining Beacon,” and “Order of the Green Circle.”
Initial information on the game will be officially unveiled on November 14th during “24 Hours of Reality: The Dirty Weather Report,” a 24-hour event broadcast live on the Internet, culminating in a presentation by Gore on November 15th at 7 p.m. EST.
Without any advertising budget, Reality Drop will rely strictly on word-of-mouth to gain traction and influence the climate change discussion. “Success will be measured by the amount of people who are posting and the number of people involved,” says Favat. “People inherently want to be on the right side here.”

Now here comes the fun part, the “stats” section of the Vimeo video page for the propaganda movie at the top shows this:
Wow, 155 views in a week, and trending down, down, down. Some might call that interest “cooling”. When you click on the “Top URL embeds” (highlighted in yellow) you get this fun table showing that WUWT is the main external contributor to views of Al Gore’s ‘Reality Drop’ video. Heh.
What is really interesting is the comparison to the top “loads” leader, which has only 6 views compared to WUWT’s 999. More people from WUWT viewed Al’s video than anywhere else in the world. That’s gotta sting.
So what should we do to help Al get more views?
Well obviously WUWT’ers need to help. Simply click on the video “play” button above, and we’ll give him a hockey stick graph for views. If you have a website/Twitter feed/Facebook page, direct people here and ask them to help. To register a view from WUWT, you simply need to play the video above in the open WUWT browser window. It’s just that easy to give Al a hockey stick of traffic from those he seeks to destroy. I’ll post an update when the success is robust, er, graphically clear.
In the meantime, you might want to take this survey Al has prepared to help gauge the success of his video. I’m sure he’d love to hear your opinion!

There’s something even more curious about those stats. They got 11,600 hits from some site called arnworldsplash.arn.com but… only 6 loads. Six? 11,600 people clicked through to the site, but only SIX watched the video? SIX?
So…. I tried to visit the site, and got this message:
“The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list.”
Seriously? I’m on their blacklist? They know who I am? Right.
So, off to a different computer on a completely different ISP. Same message. Wow.
Anyone in a betting mood? Here’s my bet. There is no “black list” there is only a white list for specific computers that are allowed on the site. No way there’s thousands of them, that would be impractical. More likely there are only a few of them, and they are running bots.
arnworldsplash.arn.com is a dummy site which has only one purpose. It exists for bots to hit it and from there link to the Reality Drop site, driving up that site’s traffic numbers. Whoever did the initial testing probably clicked the video link just to make sure the whole food chain was working right. The bots don’t do that part, so…. no more views of the video.

I see a general pattern here. “Truth” has become a dirty word. Almost every weekend I have to answer the door to a couple characters (different each time) who attempt to hand me their church’s pamphlets and insist I must know “the truth”. I tell them I’ll buy everything except truth.
So when I see somebody “spread truth” right in the opening, I know I can’t be bothered to look further. Isn’t that neat?

I was wondering how the windmills fared, the media has been strangely silent. I know the rotors can be locked during high winds, the blades turned for minimal profile. On the large very expensive models, not so much on the backyard versions. But since Sandy wasn’t a hurricane when it made landfall, it really wasn’t much of a test.
Oh well, guess it’s a good thing that during a high wind event like Sandy, no one needed electricity from the windmills while gathering supplies and hunkering down or evacuating, especially from the backyard ones after the power lines were downed, nor has any electricity from those been needed in the weeks of waiting for the utilities to get their electricity hooked up again. Nothing but bright rainbows and rose-scented unicorn farts for that entire swath of the country, everyone is doing fine.

Already done here on WUWT and elsewhere. Belief is bottoming out, those who accept it have been largely deafened by the relentless CAGW drumbeating and don’t care about being proactive, they’ll just wait and see what it costs if it should ever be an issue.

I think their counter stops at 999, the actual total is likely higher ??
Maybe unethical – but if you go back and try to do the survey again – it won’t let you.
Unless you delete browsing history – then you get a second chance to use words like ‘obscene’, ‘scandalous’, ‘totalitarian’ and ‘Uzbekistani standards’.

You are correct.
Given how the regulating class (They are not ‘socialist’ that is just a convient mask) has come out of the closet about what there long term goals are, I am afraid that a world government is pretty much a done deal. With luck the Chinese and Russians are going to kill it but I doubt it. Australia and the EU have already fallen and the USA is on the cliffs edge. The EU BTW is the template for what they are planning.

Surely there should be a complimentary site that mirrors each of the claims but with REAL science instead of the claptrap I’m reading there now?

Amen. the AGW scam is just one front by which they (general term to describe the greedy control mongers, alias: psychopathic narcissist) forge on. Apathy is on the side of the advancement of misinformation along with a total and intentional brainwashing from the mainstream media, K-12 and higher ed. Hang onto to the freedom within the internet, as we see in Syria, and San Fransisco, when it is of their (as in “they”) choosing, bye bye electronic communication.
My guess is a taxation on email and internet sights and other “fairness” schemes” that will turn the internet into a rich mans sport, forcing the poor to only the over the airways media, which is also being used to suppress the sheeple. This video (and, apparently, project) CLAIMS that “big fossil fuel” is gaming the system by planting false information everywhere that climate is discussed. And, this video then goes on to propose that the response to this is to…. game the system by planting Al Gore’s information (which is demonstrably false) everywhere that climate is discussed?
And, as an added insult to the intellect of anyone already brainwashed into it, their incentive to participants is to make it an online game, with points? Where the most points wins? What do they win?
Frankly, if there is no oversight or legal precedent for this kind of BLATANT manipulation of media and opinions, THERE SHOULD BE. This entire “reality drop” thing is SO repugnant, SO over the top, SO manipulative, that if it’s not breaking a law, then laws should be created so it is – and throw everyone involved into prison.
I have never, EVER seen any “truth” or scientific idea that needs armies of brainwashed twits to go around manipulating every discussion about it. And I never ever want to, ever again.

IIRC, NOAA says that there were 19 named storms this year, which is a record, but the number of named hurricanes is average and the number of major hurricanes (3 and above) is 3, half the average of six.

When someone has been hanging themselves (metaphorically) for thirty years, and not only are they not done but they are gaining (legal and fiscal) steam, it may be time for a strategy other than “wait.”

I have never been part of an organized disinformation campaign, and never will be. Such things should be subject to the same sort of legal consequences as pyramid schemes are. Both are equally provable in a court of law.
