Art show for children: "In this vision we have poisoned our environment with toxic waste"

Guest post by Alec Rawls

A venerable Aussie art gallery has gone over to the eco-propaganda dark side. An exhibition for children at the Ballarat depicts mankind’s impending and well-deserved doom. In the illustration above, post-apocalyptic kangaroo, elk and wolf have “come for what’s ours,” narrated with the caption:

In this vision we have poisoned our environment with toxic waste and used up all the natural resources until the earth could no longer support us… In this painting, people are just a memory. The earth has survived and with it some of the plants and animals which lived in harmony with nature, only taking what they needed and adapting…

The poor wolf has apparently had to adapt to eating eucalyptus. Even wild animals are not eco-enough for the eco-religionists.

Check out how hot the outback was in this 1890 painting by David Davies. What better way to illustrate that “Australia is getting hotter and climate change has arrived”?

This — cough cough — turkey might be a little — urk — overcooked. Hope yours is better!

Religious zealots are everywhere these days. And promoting so many pop religions, too.
I don’t remember it always being so.

Not only are there vegetarian wolves, but – given that people are just a memory – some of the other animals have evolved to operate and maintain lighthouses.

I’m cheating as I read about this a couple of days ago somewhere on the Intertubes 🙂
If I came across this in a public gallery, I would probably rip up the silly, propagandick ( a word I just made up) signs. I wouldn’t touch the art work though.

I’m offended! I, for one, only take what I need. & right now I need some more turkey. Oh, & some of that roast goose, a couple more slices of ham, yes! those mashed potatoes will fit nicely next to the collard greens, oh I should also grab four or five more rolls while I’m thinking about it.

Neither have they ever bothered to watch any of the myriad of “real” nature programmes from the 80s/early 90s showing nature red in tooth & claw, nary a mention of global warming. Nature is brutal & savage, survival is base upon that if the fittiest, & more importantly, the most ruthless & cunning! To enlighten those who may not know, if you have 10 chickens in a roost/hen house, & a fox gets in to take a chicken for its cubs, how many chickens do you have left? Answer = 9………….ALL DEAD! The fox kills for sport!!!! A wild cat might only eat what it needs to sustain itself for a day or two, lions will hunt in a pride using teamwork curiously. Pack animals like wolves/hyenas, & the like, will hunt in packs again using teamwork & gorge themsleves on the kill until little is left for the vultures, as they do not know when the next meal is coming from until they hunt is down & kill it! sadly it is a said state of affairs when evn with what may appear to be the most innoccuous of tv progs, they will slip AGW into somewhere, my wife gets quite vexatious with me every time she decides we’re going to watch a nature programme, she is adamant that it is just about this or that natural occurrence, & I throw into the mix that I’ll give it “20 minutes” before AGW rears its ugly face & sadly I am usualy right although I admit the timing is often off!

I remember reading that there is a natural tendency for phosphorus, essential for all life, to become depleted. Its compounds tend to be heavy and insoluble and therefore leach away. So, all those animals and plants that use up this natural resource without thinking about its conservation are going to die out anyway without our help. Of course, a sufficiently intelligent technological lifeform might be able to harvest and return the phosphorus to the ecosystem. Without its help, everything is doomed.

We were doomed in the 60s, doomed in the 70s, again in the 80s, even more so in the 90s, of course the millenium was going to be an epic doom but when that failed we moved to an apocalyptic doom for 2012. Can anyone see a pattern here?
We seem to have brought up a generation of doom mongers, whiners and whingers.

Yes, animals have been living in harmony with nature for millions of years, regularly over populating their habitats, suffering massive die offs every few years as a consequence, and then slowly building up until they over populate again.
Those stupid humans, the greedy arrogant humans, they do unnatural things like setting hunting limits, fishing limits, timber cutting limits, ensuring land isn’t over grazed or over cultivated, consciously limiting their own birth rate, refusing to allow major projects to proceed until environmental impact studies have been done, protecting endangered species by protecting their habitat and actively breeding them in captivity to restock the natural population.
Who’s in harmony and who’s out of control again? The ONLY animal that has EVER made even an ATTEMPT to take only from the environment as much as is needed and with an eye to conservation is us humans.
If the world every does go cataclysmic in some way, those stupid animals better pray that whatever species they belong to, itz one of the ones that us greedy arrogant abusive humans have some interest in preserving, because the rest are going to get left to become extinct.
Harmony with nature my bleep bleeping bleep.

Mongolian wolves, upon catchng up with a herd of deer, kill all of them in the snow and eat only little. The frozen deer are remembered and when spring comes, the pack revisits the site to eat the thawing venison. They have learned how to use the climate in service of ‘nature’.
Mongolians, knowing this behaviour, following the wolves and pick up freshly killed deer with no effort at all. Sometimes intelligent adaption is better than superhuman effort. It is geeks over jocks once again.

Brings to mind the Timothy Treadwell series, Grizzly Man? or some such, I had not laughed so much in years, first at the mind-blowing ignorance of the man, smoozing with wild bears and then the logical ending. Surprised the family of his dead girl friend did not sue his estate and family for everything. In my twisted opinion the only cure for these delusional soothsayers is grant their wishes, Hug a polar bear TV.This way they can become one with nature and find out how lovey wild animals really are, and others can profit from their idiocy. Churchill Manitoba needs the economic boost, and it would be way more entertaining than Ice Road Truckers or Ice Pilots. Not to mention a better plot line than the southern imposter Arctic Air. Sarc? I think we humans are pretty good.
I was watching a discovery program about imagined encounters with Aliens. All the scientists agreed on one thing – adavanced aliens would not be friendly. They explained that all the smartest animals are predators, and any aliens coming here would be predators, and they would deliberately destroy all human life to get what they want.
But does anybody believe that WE would act like that if we encountered a less developed extra solar civilization. There would be committees set up to carry out risk assessments, enviromental impact assessments, diversity assessments, and everything else. Even in the laughably anti capitalist movie Avatar, they never set the antagonists up to embark on premeditated sterilisation of the indigenous populations (although they did lash out in frustration in then end).
Yet, if aliens would do this to us – and 97% of scientists agree that they would – then by comparison we must be veritable angels!

Alec Rawls says: “global warming alarmism is an unscientific fraud.”
True. However, the charges against humanity here are:
1. we have poisoned our environment with toxic waste, and
2. used up all the natural resources until the earth could no longer support us
This is the identical twin of global warming science – sustainability. In either one, the final conclusion is that people (as we now live) are an impurity in the hydrologic and air cycles. The terms are used interchangably in many articles. The scientific methodology and funding are conjoined. So no academic black eye for anyone who did not notice which identical twin they were looking at.
Sustainability science promises new terrors and tipping points in our electricity, water, crops, cattle, and coffee:
“Human beings live in a new age, many scientists believe, one called the Anthropocene, in which human effects on Earth’s systems are powerful regulators of how those systems function. Or how they are beginning to break down.”

Yeah, the ‘animals living in harmony with Nature’ meme is supremely irritating. Australians who are not living in greenie fairyland know better. We have locust plagues that strip every leaf off every plant in their path. We have packs of wild dogs that eviscerate sheep and lambs by the dozen and leave them dying in the paddock. We have kangaroo populations that fluctuate wildly between years of plenty and years of drought, when many starve to death.
As for the disgraceful Ballarat gallery display, thanks to Alec it has received quite a bit of publicity here. Hopefully, there are some grownups on the funding or management body who will do something about it.

Of course, elks are part of our natural resources, at least here in Scandinavia, and would presumably have killed off every last elk before becoming extinct ourselves.

Personally I find such CAGW propaganda turning up in an Art Museum particularly offensive. Its should be a place of objectivity that puts the paintings and exhibits in their correct perspective and place in time – eco washing what are antiques shows a certain crass disregard for history and what the original artist was trying to capture.

So they wouldn’t pollute their pristine environment, did that big bunch of beautiful animals bring along their own pooper-scopoers? Can’t see any scoopers, but does the beautiful environmentalist’s picture hide the poop, too?

November 22, 2012 12:32 pm

You’d think these super-cool avant-garde “artists” would be more concerned with bringing their image up to date. In 1960, western countries were actually heading for the situation in this picture. Large areas of US farmland were actually dying from lead and other heavy metals. It was not an imaginary problem.
The first set of pollution laws solved that real problem. Every law after 1974, especially the “biodiversity” and carbon nonsense, has moved things backwards by making it harder to sustain civilization at all.

Any animal species that has aligned themselves with humans have done very well for themselves. Think of the dog, cat, horse, cows, chickens… All are now world wide and except for rare breeds in great shape numbers wise. Yes we cull the unwanted males and old females but that would happen in the wild anyway. At least humans kill very quick which is more than I can say for other predators who have no problem eating their prey once they are down often when the prey is still alive.
To bad the type of documentation shown on Wild Kingdom has now been replaced by the ‘Bambi Syndrome’ HMMMmmm seems some one else uses that term besides me. link The worst part of the ‘Bambi Syndrome’ which the linked article does not cover is the affected individual seems to think animals are just humans dressed in warm fuzzy costumes. When the animal acts like you would expect an animal to act they are horrified or in denial. Unfortunately it is most often children who are hurt. (In Londonderry NH, my next door neighbor’s beautiful little 6 yr old girl was badly mauled and her face mangled because of this type of denial on the part of an adult.)

Ballaarat is a fine Victorian City built on the hard work and efforts of Gold Rush miners. The City deserves better than this false, mean propaganda from its Art Gallery. In 1890 the climate was a lot hotter in Central Victoria than now and people who lived and worked in these harsh environments and built the City, should be recognised as the heroes and titans that they were, men, women and children too. They are now depicted by Inner City Greenies as environmental wreckers and exploiters. In these days life was hard and graveyards show that men, women and children died young as a result of lack of technology and medical knowledge. The Ballaarat Art Gallery is a fine adaptation of an old building which this sort of idiotic propaganda trashes totally. The organisers of this show should be cast out into a tent at the back of the defunct Deborah Mine to contemplate their sins.

Since the planet can’t sustain all of us, as we live now, with our electricity, water, high-yield crops, cattle, gas, and coffee, does this mean that scientists and politicians, along with artists and the social sciences are working to reduce the population and its needs, in order to have an environmentally sustainable future planet?
This wouldn’t be modern-day eugenics, would it Maestro?

“plants and animals which lived in harmony with nature, only taking what they needed and adapting…”
Has this geek never heard about all species being capable to multiply exponentially? Or does he deny Darwinism? So. Numbers are always limited by resources, in each single case. Living species do need everything available. The beautiful harmony only comes from early and horrible death of most individuals, their flesh consumed by other beings fast, to make the environment nice & clean at all times. That’s the very process of adaptation at work. Disgusting, is it not?
Humans, living in a free & educated society are the only exception, at least in peacetime. They don’t need to adapt much, invention is quite sufficient. As soon as a resource runs out, they can switch to another technology using other, so far unexploited resources. And no, we are not poisoning our environment with toxic waste, at least not indefinitely. Europe & Northern America is much cleaner now than a half century ago. True, the Chinese still have a monstrous cleanup job ahead of them, but I bet they’ll manage, provided the blood bath of Tienanmen square was only a hiccup and they win their freedom eventually by getting rid of the corrupt & oppressive communist superstructure.

That awful Tony Crane piece is a cautionary tail as it depicts, by its mere presents in an art museum, what Marxism does to everything. It does not matter how unskilled the artist is, or inept a paintings execution, as long as it sends the right message, and glorifies mediocrity.

I have recently viewed some items in your art trail for children.
These are available on the Quadrant Online website:
http://www.quadrant.org.au/blogs/doomed-planet/2012/11/the-fine-art-of-scaring-children
and also at Australian Climate Madness:
http://www.australianclimatemadness.com/2012/11/ballarat-museum-indoctrinates-children-with-climate-propaganda/
Given the number of people around the world who view these sites, you can be sure that this will go “viral”.
My view is that what you are saying constitutes child abuse.
On the other hand, since no one has yet been prosecuted for images and video showing children being hanged or blown to bits for failing to put their hands up to join “carbon kids” or similar warped enterprises, I am not expecting any action to be taken.
You might need to consider the following:
http://nipccreport.org/articles/2012/nov/14nov2012a1.html
Alberto Boretti, Associate Professor of Engineering at the University of Ballarat’s School of Science and Engineering:
” … rise of sea level in the bay of Sydney by 2100 is therefore more likely less than the 50 mm measured so far over the last 100 years, rather than the meter [1000 mm] predicted by some models … the latter of which would appear to be the source of “inspiration” for the Australian government’s pronouncements.”
—————————————————————–
Followed by other comments on the specifics referred to in the exhibition.
No reply yet …..
The image at the top is a puzzle. Looks like someone’s been consuming too much weed or something … Kangaroo is ok. Elk? Looks more like a red deer. A few of those around. Third creature a bit strange for a wolf. Maybe a feral cat? They do get big down here. Or a cougar? Allegedly some of these were brought in by US aircrews during WWII.

“Check out how hot the outback was in this 1890 painting by David Davies.”
No, no. Davies was prophecying what the outback would be like in 1990. In his day packs of sabre-toothed koalas loped through the snow-covered forests in pursuit of the great woolly wombat, glaciers carved their way through the Olgas, and thylacines hunted white kangaroos on the ice that covered the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Gergis has proved this.

Although more blunt terminology than I would use in most circumstances, really that caption is quite an example of the core of the increasingly prevalent enviroreligion which Dr. Zubrin discussed while calling it a “global antihuman cult.” ( http://www.google.com/search?q=“global+antihuman+cult” ) It also is an example of the usual clone-like repeating of propaganda on vague “resources” — vague as highlighting of its BS nature would occur if getting into true specifics in a mathematically literate manner (amounts of seawater available for desalination and where water returns in the end, thorium for reactors, aluminum and iron content in ore grades ranging down to 13% by mass of even the average rock, nitrogen in the atmosphere for fertilizer production, quadrillions of tons of phosphorus in the crust at even an average concentration not much less than in plants, and so on for every major input required to operate an agricultural-industrial civilization). Even on hydrocarbons, they are wrong and can’t stop lying. (I say lying since, with each individual of the type I’ve encountered so far, when shown how such claims are wrong, the originators just temporarily retreat only to deliberately repeat the same claims at their next opportunity, following a Big Lie strategy of getting others to believe by sheer repetition).

Far and away the biggest environmental problem in Australia is feral predators (cats, dogs, foxes) eating their way through Australia’s native wildlife. Pretty much every mammal below 3 kg is either extinct or on the verge. Not to mention feral goats, camels and pigs eating their way through the vegetation.
Yet the Greens protest any attempt to control these animals.

I wonder if they realise the damage they are doing with this. Those same children are going to grow into a cooling world despite rising CO2 levels and they are going to realise that authority figures lied to them, and once they realise in sufficiently large numbers that this has happened, who knows where this might end….

With the press in their control they can just spin it as they wish. Young people will think the older folks are nuts. We can see that at work today.
How many of us remember the ‘global cooling’ of the 1970’s? For proof of the concern there is the 1974 The CIA Report on global cooling: link and of course WUWT
But that has not stopped the Spinmeisters.

Study debunks ‘global cooling’ concern of ’70s
The supposed “global cooling” consensus among scientists in the 1970s — frequently offered by global-warming skeptics as proof that climatologists can’t make up their minds — is a myth, according to a survey of the scientific literature of the era.…..

This is of course a lie wrapped in a bit of truth (note the key word consensus ) but the gullible will believe it.
1974 Time Magazine:
Another Ice Age?
British science journalist Nigel Calder was there and tells the behind the scenes tale of the 1970’s global cooling scare here

That thought has often crossed my mind about Environmentalists, all townies, never been near enough to nature to find out that it will turn around and kill you if you don’t watch out.

Over time, I’ve observed that cities concentrate and magnify corruption and socialism. Now there is some real positive feedback…

“I’ve even tried pointing up the irony/sarcasm/sardonicism in your posts when people have bitten. 🙂
DaveE.” and all
You are right, there must be an appropriate tag for introducing the latest greatest terminology and tactics coming from the National Science Foundation and from academic circles. How about
/Devil’s Interdisciplinary Non-profit Advocacy Dept.for a Sustainable Planet
or some other such thing.
Save a lot of trouble. (-:

“Interesting they think animals take “only what they need”, they’ve never seen what a fox does in a hen house I take it?”
The Noble Native Americans lived in harmony with nature and only took what they needed too. Well, except for “hunting” by chasing buffalo herds off of cliffs, where thousands of the animals died. Those that didn’t die from the fall suffocated from the weight of the others landing on top of them.
Afterwards, the natives came by, cut off a few choice cuts and left the rest to rot.

“The poor wolf has apparently had to adapt to eating eucalyptus. ”
You are merely displaying your ignorance of antipodean fauna. That is a tasmanian koala-wolf which is a vegetarian member of the marsupial family. 😉

Art can be a powerful medium for propaganda, a fact that Hitler understood well.

Looking at the picture from the point of a child, I would think the photo would make the child terrified of deer, wolves and kangaroos, especially that there might be glowy-eyed creatures coming at them out of red smoke. Those are the scary elements of the picture. I wonder if any have nightmares after viewing the thing.

Remember if it is all natural it is safe, and desirable, and you should make every effort to accumulate as much of it as you can —
Like:
Strychnine, arsenic, lead, cobra venom, black widows, chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, radium, radon, wasps, mercury, tornadoes, pyroclastic flows, soft ball sized hail, mud flows, tsunamis, anthrax, ricin, black holes, large asteroids on a collision course with earth, flash floods, small pox, plague infested prairie dogs, large fuzzy animals with fangs …
(/sarc)
All of those existed long before mankind came along, and are “all natural”
Mother Nature can be a mean spirited old B—- if you get cross ways with her.

Foxes, coyotes, wolves and other canids don’t kill for “fun”. They kill more than they can eat in one session because they are primarily scavengers rather than hunters (they actually prefer semi-rotten meat). If undisturbed they will retrieve the dead chickens, sheep etc and bury them for later consumption.
All members of the cat family, such as lions, must eat fresh meat because they are very vulnerable to food poisoning. That is why they usually only hunt what they can eat immediately.
You should never transfer human motivations to animal behaviour.

Bananabender: I agree with your last statement most definitely. It seems likely that wolves (and other canids) do kill and come back later, plus other critters that are scavengers benefit from the wolf kills. Same for wild cats. I am uncertain if this actually applies to domestic cats. They seem to leave a wake of carcasses in their areas. I find rabbit carcasses the cats kill frequently. Why they do this, I do not know. We tend to call it “playing with their food” but dogs and cats instinctively chance things and cats bat things around. It serves a purpose to the cats and dogs, and in addition the behaviour makes humans all warm and fuzzy, which also benefits the critters!
