The Gender-Neutral Kitten Salvation Happiness Fund

Brytni Ambyr is out to save the gender-neutral kittens of the world from abuse by global warming through Happy Thoughts.

Hi! :^) Brytni Ambyr* is an attractive blonde female out to save the gender-neutral kittens of the world from abuse by global warming through Happy Thoughts. Have you ever thought about what it would like to be forced to wear little fur coats through an endless summer? That’s like so cruel! :^(

Brytni will use your generous contributions to create lots of Happy Thoughts! She wishes she could save every little sweet creature. But she will do what she can to be Happy! and use your donations to be Happy! and save the ones she can. Aside from Happy Thoughts!, she will also do her part by adopting a gender-neutral kitten (or even a gendered kitti, and spaying/neutering it), and treating it sooo nice. She’ll give it love, treats, and a nice air-conditioned place to live. This will make Brytni AND the kitten Happy!! Double-plus-good Happy Thoughts! Enough Happy Thoughts and Happy Cats may even hold off the global warming!

Make the kittens Happy!

Make Brytni Happy!

Gaia will love you for it. http://www.indiegogo.com/genderneutralkittenfund

Goddess Bless. :^)

I didn’t watch the video but the still shot displayed looks like the kitten is thinking, “WTF! Who is this nut trying to shave me?”.

Hmmmm – – Perhaps Brytni needs to do a bit more observation/research.
My cat sleeps in the sun all day long, systematically following the sunshine all around the south-facing exposures. When the sun doesn’t shine, she will always be found on the warmest section of the heated floors. At night, she sleeps on top of us.
Global warming would be the answer to all her prayers. She generates her own Happy Thoughts!

Lessee…
Campaign pitch: “global warming” links to the bogus hockey stick _and_ a WUWT post on the _lack_ of global warming. Video includes the URL for the famous “what global warming causes” list, a “free cat”, and a “PETA kills” pic. States outright that “Brytni” isn’t real (includes a commercial attribution link for the model pic).
Then there’s the fine print…

Another con.
What amazes me is that organisations like WWF are actively promoting wildlife and habitata destruction.
The biggest threat to Orangutans is increasing jungle clearance – some of which is to produce palm oil for biodiesel.
The real scandal was fully illustrated this week with the news that 47% of the Great Barrier Reef has been seriously damaged by the Crown of Thorns Starfish.
While naval gazing and needlessly worrying over less than 0.04% of the atmosphere our Government has ignored a known scourge of coral reefs identified more than 50 years ago as a threat to the reef get to plague proportions.
Gaia at her best it seems.
And our ABC is presenting programs pointing the finger at climate change and chemical runoff from agriculture even while the expert they interview is only talking about the Starfish.
How did an organisation that 50 or more years ago prided itself on balance, objectivity and integrity stoop so low ?

Apparently this person has never seen The Solar Cat Book books, at http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Cat-Book-Jim-Augustyn/dp/0898150183/ref=sr_1_2
While I have seen cats pant or splay out on cool fieldstones I’ve never seen one seek out the slipstream of an air conditioner except in my car.

I thought this was pretty damn funny ( and was intended to be ) Followed up to find out who Carl “Bear” Bussjaeger was before I’d noticed he had replied in the comments. Hi Carl, welcome. I’m sure you are enjoying the traffic šŸ™‚
For all those shouting ‘con’, it’s satire. I didn’t have to finish reading the pitch to see that but then I’m a Brit, satire and sarcasm isn’t just comedy for us, it’s a way of life. I’ve seen from my visits to America that it often slips under the radar of many Americans if done a little too sincerely.
My concern when at the site was that it is a little sincere and that there might be some poor, misguided half-wit tree-hugger out there who would consider this genuine and actually donate some cash yet I was reminded of the saying ” a fool and his money…” and thought: “sod it, I hoe carl gets some beer money from the deluded.”
Thanks for the laugh.

I thought of that, but then I realized that anyone contributing would fall into one of two classes: 1) terminally stupid, who probably won’t be able to click the right links to donate anyway, and 2) those who just got a good laugh out of it. But just in case, the pitch does say that Brytni isn’t real and that kittens don’t cause of stop global warming; if the clue-challenged can’t grab that one, so be it. I could use some b/e/e/r/ scotch money. Not to mention the replacement kitten.
And thanks for the welcome to WUWT (I think Ric mentioned that, too), but I’ve actually been a regular reader and semi-regular commenter here for years.

Yes, ā€œBearā€ Bussjaeger, welcome to WUWT. Great spoof of some of the campaigns on the indiegogo site. Although they do seem to have done some serious fund raising. You will probably actually get some donations.
For those who didn’t check out the referenced site and gone on the find out about indiegogo, the following quotes are from wikipedia:
ā€œIndiegogo is an international crowd funding site founded by Danae Ringelmann, Slava Rubin, and Eric Schell in 2008. Its headquarters are in San Francisco, California. As of 2012, it has hosted over 100,000 funding campaigns in areas such as music, charity, small business and filmā€
And
ā€œIn an interview with Film Threat, Rubin said the site is ā€œall about allowing anybody to raise money for any idea.ā€[10] The site’s structure allows users to create a page for their funding campaign, set up an account with PayPal, make a list of “perks” for different levels of donation, then create a social media-based publicity effort. Users publicize the projects themselves through Facebook, Twitter and similar platforms.ā€
Good Luck ā€œBear.ā€ Hope you get enough to get yourself a new kitten.

Danke. I had fun with it. Although when Joel Simon (http://joelsgulch.com/) realizes that his cats and dog are featured in the video I may (hopefully) live to regret it. [grin] The toughest part was opening the necessary accounts and uploading the files on freaking dial-up.
I’m actually in favor of voluntary crowdsource fundraising, and Indiegogo (and Kickstarter, etc) do some real good. So this is less of a spoof on the process itself as it is on some of the less discerning people donating. Three campaigns in particular inspired me to go for it: the bus monitor who raised over $700,000 for a vacation after getting sassed by teens, a singer who convinced folks to pay for a European vacation so she could “record” a new (apparently studio) album, and the wikigun guys who claimed they’d design a 3D printed handgun and spec’d an ABSplus thermoplastic printer that literally could not do what they claimed they’d do with it (and they’re having a few legal problems since).

Minnesotans for Global Warming might do a new song for this.
***note NYT bookends this piece with it’s hot in texas spiel!
5 Oct: NYT: Timothy Williams: Itā€™s Snowing in Minnesota! Yes, October Is Early for That
***Early Friday morning, the temperature in Houston was gradually cooling from a high of 88 degrees, part of a Texas summer that just will not quit. Meanwhile, more than 1,000 miles to the north in Minnesota, a different kind of cooling was taking place: More than a foot of snow was coming down…
In Middle River, Minn., eight inches fell.
But the heaviest snowfall was in Roseau, Minn., 10 miles from the Canadian border, where 14 inches of wet, heavy snow fell, snapping tree limbs and causing power failures in the town of 2,500, which bills itself as the birthplace of snowmobiling.
ā€œWeā€™ve gotten snow this early, but not like this,ā€ said Greg Sorensen, a dispatcher at the Roseau County Sheriffā€™s Department…
Patrick Slattery, a spokesman for the National Weather Service, said that given the abrupt temperature shift ā€” autumn crispness to freezing cold ā€” even more snow than the accumulated amount may have fallen, but the rest had quickly evaporated…
National Weather Service meteorologists say snowfall will be above normal this winter in an arc of the country stretching from Minnesota to New York.
Mr. Slattery said that heavy snow was anticipated for Wyoming and parts of Nebraska later Friday, and that it would continue Saturday into northeastern Colorado and northwest Kansas.
ā€œIt would seem to indicate that winter has started,ā€ he said.
***Just not in Texas, where the high on Saturday is expected to hit 85 degrees in Houston, and 92 in Corpus Christi.

the writer’s name seems so fitting for this gloomy story:
6 Oct: Bloomberg: Justin Doom: First Solar Declines on Concerns Over Panel Reliability
First Solar Inc., the worldā€™s biggest maker of thin-film panels, fell the most in five weeks after the company said as many as 232,000 panels in the field may need to be replaced.
First Solar declined 11 percent to $20.07 at the close in New York, the most since Aug. 30.
he panels, made between October 2008 and June 2009, ā€œmay over time develop a loose cord-plate attachment,ā€ Ted Meyer, a company spokesman, said today in an e-mail.
The company is working with owners to repair or replace the affected panels and will replace roof-mounted units at no cost, he said. The issue isnā€™t expected to have a ā€œsignificant impactā€ on earnings because it was included in financial guidance released in August, he said.
Solar panels with loose cord plates put at risk the unitsā€™ wiring, increasing the risk of electric shocks and fires, Mark Bachman, an analyst at Avian Securities Inc. in Boston, said in an interview. Bachman downgraded the shares to the equivalent of sell from buy today and removed his 12-month price target…
ā€œSome of those modules that have this problem may have already been replaced, but where this is a big concern is with the European installers who were putting them on rooftops.ā€
First Solar has had other mechanical issues. It reported a $164 million charge in February for warranty payments related to flawed panels that may have premature power losses.
ā€œItā€™s the second time that somethingā€™s gone wrong,ā€ Bachman said. ā€œFirst Solar is going to have to communicate that they donā€™t have any issues going forward. Investors are going to want to know, ā€˜Whatā€™s the third issue going to be?ā€™ā€

Yay! There is nothing wrong with my Benelli at all! A recoil action has to have something to recoil against.
You all probably know how cats will mawer, scream and whine half the night or so when they get frisky. Next morning my beagle will pester me until I take him out. Usually I throw on something warm to wear at daybreak because it’s cool.
So when my beagle launches a low fast one or launches two at one time, I’ve been getting into a hurry and pulling up too short. That is, not properly seating the buttstock firmly into my shoulder. The thick warm clothing adding to this cushioned effect on the recoil action. Low brass loads also contribute.
Making sure to get the gun firmly into my shoulder every time appears to have stopped any cycling blip. Whew, thought I’d picked an expensive turkey.

A friend of mine had a cat that would sleep for hours curled up around the flue pipe of the boiler, the only thing that happened was the boiler engineer would complain about all the cat hair in the boiler.
A manufacturing company that I visited heat treated parts it made, they had a cat that used to curl up and sleep on top of whichever furnace was on and would only change furnace when the next one was up to temp.
Our long haired cat would spend hours on the flat felted roof at the back of our house in the sun and only come in to eat and then go back to cook some more. Our present cat was wanting to settle down in the hearth with the fire and only came away after his whiskers got singed and he didn’t like the smell.

I work for an animal charity and this very day three six week old orphan kittens arrived at the shop in a carrier bag, found on the main road where some nice person had simply stopped their car and deposited them. Grey and whites and in a state of shock but doing OK now on meds. Have a laugh by all means at the often hilarious antics of cats but next time you pass an animal charity shop or shelter drop in and give them your unwanted bric-a-brac or spare dollars. Many like ours dont get government cash, we get by on a shoe string and a prayer and if you ever see a kitten that needs assistance please go out of your way and do the right thing and take it to a shelter.

All joking aside (hint to some of the commenters: read the prior comments; “Brytni’s” campaign is an acknowledged joke, satire), animal shelters really do need help. If you don’t know of a good one in your area, try the Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (http://hava-heart.org/) in Washington state.

This blog has a global following. And most gentle readers would no doubt value freedom of speech. If not for this freedom, the truth about carbon dioxide, global temperature datasets and political interference from other countries would not be known.
Freedom of speech is under attack in Australia. Mercedes-Benz ā€“ a global corporate giant ā€“ has seen fit to withdraw its sponsorship from the Alan Jones broadcast in cooperation with the Labor government to try to silence Alan Jones and rob many 2GB listeners of their right to hear Mr Jones. http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/alan-jones-loses-his-merc/story-e6freuy9-1226489835280
“We want the car back, the deal is cancelled, it is over,” Mercedes-Benz’s corporate communications manager, David McCarthy, said. Yes, his name is McCarthy!
If you value freedom of speech, please take a few moments to let them know what you think of leading the charge to persecute one man, one radio station and its many listeners.
Please be polite and respectful. Let them know you value freedom of speech and that it is irresponsible for a big corporation with huge resources to team up with a government with unlimited power to try to shut down speech they donā€™t like. https://www1.mercedes-benz.com.au/custom/forms/ContactUsCar.aspx
McCarthy is living up to his namesake alright. McCarthyism is a term used to describe the targeting of political opponents for persecution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarthyism
Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific knows what a bunch of angry twitter users think. Let them know what real people think about freedom of speech. That people have given their lives for it, and that it is an act of treason to throw it away so carelessly.
Thank you.

What do you mean “as opposed to what”?
Do you really believe that sceptics are cruel animal abusers? What on earth possesses you to judge people you have never met, never interacted with? There are good people of whom there are many and there are bad people of whom there are few. I give my time to help animals, what do you do? Ask yourself this question, how many lives have I saved this year? How many times have I gone out of my way to help and assist a fellow creature in need? Before you point out the mote in the eye of those you have never met, take care of the log in your own eh?
In fact the three stooges are doing fine now, one with a real temper and attitude and one with a shy gentle nature, and one outgoing happy go lucky chappy. Names suggestions please.

The one with a real temper, “Michael Mann”.
For the other two, you’ll need to pick a skeptic.

You’ve found us out. We all hate cute furry critters. Obviously that’s why I have the URL for a animal rescue group on file, and even included one of my own cats (the chubby Siamese) in the video. [/sarc]
Check your assumptions.
In fact, check them at the door.
