Steve McIntyre to speak in London on Climate Issues

Steve McIntyre writes:

I’m speaking in London on August 16:

When: Thursday, 16 August 2012, 3pm

Where: Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5DB

The talk is public. It is hosted by the Global Warming Policy Foundation. I’m going to be talking about events over the past year, but will mostly be talking about the increased emphasis by the climate “community” on Climate Extremes, paying particular attention to the IPCC Special Report on Extremes (SREX) published in March, which was the basis of WG2 Co-Chair Christopher Field’s recent testimony to Congress.

These leads into tornados, hurricanes, floods, wildfires, heat waves and droughts, the latter two very topical from this year’s very hot North American summer. (Climate, of course, is not about the weather, except when it’s about the weather.)

I’m in London that day but sadly in another meeting at the same time. Are there follow-on events or networking opportunities afterwards?

Steve, you will be a very welcome visitor to our shores. Unfortunately, I am in the north of England on that day. Does GWPF have plans to video your talk and host it on the web somewhere?

I Carlton House Terrace is a very prestigious address. Just up the steps off The Mall on the way to Buckingham Palace. It backs onto The Mall Galleries. I will try to get there.

Will the speech be aired, and if not, will there be an mp3, transcript or similar?

A transcript posted on WUWT would be nice!

I would be there except I have another, all day, appointment on that day.
It is the first day of the Test Match between England and South Africa. (For the non-cricketers reading this a Test Match (note the capital letters) is a cricket match)>

I’ll be there.

David Jones,
When I was in England, I found cricket interesting, but I have never been fond of sporting events that take 3-5 days to complete. I guess I don’t have the patience. Some of the RAF guys that I worked with tried to arrange a friendly with us USAF types (with the teams mixed so it wouldn’t be TOO ugly for us), but 9-11 happened and we were never able to arrange it around the ops tempo. I always wondered how difficult it would be to hit one of those rocks y’all use as a ball when it skipped off the ground at crazy angles.

His Grace the Bishop of Hill will be attending. I’ll ask him to pass on my regards. I’m doing video work that day unfortunately.

Just checked the GWPF website and it’s suspended. Any ideas?

Steve:
I anticipate you will be as cogent as you normally are. They are ‘good guys’ at the Institute so you will get a fair hearing. Sorry I must miss it.
I don’t know how long you are in the UK but you are welcome to detour to Cornwall for a visit. We have spectacular coastal scenery here.

I will be there and I am really looking forward to seeing Steve McIntyre in the flesh. The last time I was at that smart address Bob Carter was speaking and very good he was too.

I’m going for a pint at the Bree Louise, one of the finest real ale and real cider pubs in London at about 6PM. Its near Euston Station and I’d be very happy to chew the fat with you there.

I’m in London and may be able to rearrange things so as to be there. If I get there, I too would like to meet other WUWTers. How to identify?

OK folks – for anyone attending who wants to meet other WUWTers, I look quite distinctive so please do come say hi: Short, stocky, long dark hair that will be tied back into three braids. ‘Designer beard’ and more than likely in dark clothes

French Energy Giant EDF Demands Multi-Billion Subsidies To Pay For Nuclear Power Plants
Tuesday, 14 August 2012 08:05
The boss of energy giant EDF has demanded taxpayer subsidies for nuclear power to lock in prices almost three times the current level. The French-owned company is preparing to build a raft of reactors across the UK. But before it commits to the £14billion project, the group wants guarantees from the government over the price it can charge for…

from this year’s very hot North American summer.
=============
Evidently, the pacific northwest is no longer part of north america because we sure did not have a hot summer.
North america was hot in some regions. It was not hot in all regions. Please check your facts.

Oh, what a missed opportunity! I’ll be in London (like the previous 2 months and the next one), but with too much post-Olympic packaging to take care of to be able to attend 🙁 I hope everything goes well and we can get some transcriptions / power points / videos of the event afterwards.
